24 beauty habits that are ageing you

24 beauty habits that are ageing you

by Jo Boyden on Sep 27 2024
Let's face it, we are all on the quest for radiant, youthful skin with many of us investing both our hard-earned money and time into perfecting our daily beauty routine as a result, but I’m here to tell you, that despite our best efforts the majority of us will still be making daily beauty mistakes, or following bad habits should I say, that actually add years to our face by making us look older than we actually are! Eek. From over-exfoliating to skipping sunscreen, keep reading as we count down 24 common beauty habits that could be ageing you! Remember it’s not too late to remedy this once you know the ones you are guilty of!   Wearing SPF only during the summer Let’s start with the most important habit of all, sunscreen. Not wearing SPF daily all year round is one of the biggest mistakes you can make for your skin. The suns harmful UV rays is hands down the no. 1 contributor to skin ageing so skipping your SPF is a no no. Yes, it's easy to remember to apply it when you're headed to the beach, or out and about on holiday, but so many of us skip this vital step in our everyday lives and not because we are necessarily lazy but because we don't understand the long term affect not wearing it will have on our skin! Even on cloudy days or when you’re indoors, UV rays can cause premature ageing, leading to wrinkles, dark spots, and sagging. Sun damage is cumulative, so every time you skip sunscreen, you’re speeding up the ageing process. How to fix it: Make SPF 30 or higher your daily must-have. Apply it generously every morning, and don’t forget to reapply throughout the day—especially if you’re spending time outdoors. And we understand that many sunscreens can feel oily on your skin or leave an unruly white residue that’s why we highly recommend Medicalia’s Sunscreen SPF 40 with Blue Light Shield. Thinking that the SPF in your makeup is enough to protect your skin Unless your makeup has an SPF factor of 30 or above it's unlikely to ward off premature ageing if worn alone. This is because the majority of makeup will protect against UVB rays but won't block UVA rays which is what causes skin damage. How to fix it: Layering your skin with a high factor SPF moisturiser and then foundation will give you the best chance of maintaining skin's youthful appearance, but if you are in love with your daily moisturiser which doesn't contain sun protection, use a foundation or BB Cream with a high enough SPF. We highly recommend ELES Blue Light Radiant BB Cream SPF 30. Formulated with potent ingredients including peptides, beta-carotene, amino acids, vitamin c, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, vitamin e and vitamin c, it nourishes, brightens and protects skin against UVA and UVB, as well as blue light and free radical damage! Genius. Not updating your skincare as your skin changes You might have been loyal to the same moisturiser for many years but sadly the skincare you've used in your 20's really won't cut it in your 30's, 40's and beyond. This is because as we age our skin's needs dramatically change. Skin becomes thinner, drier, more sensitive, and loses elasticity as collagen and elastin start to deplete, while fine lines and wrinkles start to form. How to fix it: Understand your skin type and needs and choose products accordingly. Anti-ageing skincare rich in ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, collagen, and vitamin C become essential as we get older. For more info on this read about the 7 super ingredients in your skincare that are all the rage and adjust your products accordingly.   Skipping on your moisturiser It's that time of the month and a few pesky pimples have reared their ugly head, or perhaps you are often prone to adult acne or simply suffer from oily skin, so suddenly you think it best to lay off the moisturiser which must be exacerbating the issue right? Wrong. While you are likely not alone in thinking lathering up on moisturiser seems counterintuitive, everyone, no matter what your skin type or concern, needs to apply a moisturiser daily! This is because moisturiser maintains skin hydration throughout the day and therefore assists in fighting premature fine lines and wrinkles too. In fact, applying moisturiser will greatly reduce your chance of developing extreme dryness, skin sensitivity, or oiliness! Why? Dehydrated skin can lead to issues like inflammation, premature skin ageing, and even breakouts. When your skin becomes dry, your body responds by making more oil! And we all know excess oil can clog pores leading to more of those darn pesky pimples. How to fix it: Don’t skip moisturiser ever. Simply find the one that will be best for your skin type. Search BC by your skin concern and then look for the moisturiser that will be right for you. Just be sure to opt for lighter moisturisers by day, especially in the warmer months, and richer creams at night.   Focusing only on Wrinkles While we are all concerned about fine lines and wrinkles as we age, dark spots and pigmentation can actually give our complexion a dull, devitalised and in turn much older appearance too! In fact, dark spots and uneven skin tone can make us look 10 years older! How to fix it: If you suffer from hyperpigmentation ensure you introduce products specifically to help with this skin concern. We promise it'll positively impact your complexion and protect your skin too. Try Vie Collection's Mela White Radiance Brightening Essense, a triple-action daily cream that effectively acts against dark spots, free radicals, and UV. The results will speak for themselves. Ignoring eye care Unfortunately our eyes are the first area of our face to show ageing, so you need to show it love just as you would the rest of your face! Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia. How to fix it: Applying a good eye cream daily is essential in keeping fine, lines and wrinkles at yay! You can also buy eye creams targeted to specific eye concerns such as crow’s feet, under eye bags and dark circles. We highly recommend Vie Collection's Chrono Eyes Puffiness-Dark Circles Wrinkle Cream. A mouthful to say I know, but a product that does exactly what it says. It’s a beautifully fine cream enriched with moisturising ingredients to nourish the eye area while reversing puffiness, dark circles, and wrinkles! Seriously! Want younger looking eyes? Start wearing eye cream or eye gel today!   Rubbing Your Eyes The area around our eyes is the most delicate on our face, fact. When we are tired it's easy to fall into the trap of rubbing our eyes, but rubbing, tugging, or pulling at your eye area can cause tiny blood vessles to break resulting in dark circles that make you look tired All. Of. The. Time. How to fix it: Be mindful of your eyes. When youre tired try to leave them alone! And if you haven’t already get a good anti-ageing eye gel and eye cream for morning and night and start applying then stat!   8. Ignoring Your neck and decolletage Oh, the forgotten area! And the area of your skin which can actually age you the most! Exposed to sunlight just as much as your face, if your neck and decolletage aren't cared for daily or protected with SPF, they can end up crepey and wrinkly so much earlier than they should! Whatever you do for your face you should do for your neck and decolletage too. How to fix it: There are neck and chest specific products you can use, I personally use Phytomer's Decollete Parfait Neck and Decollete Renewing Care, it hydrates, nourishes refines and brightens skin for a more youthful appearance while smoothing wrinkles too! But there is also nothing wrong with using your daily moisturiser or a hydrating body cream instead! Just start doing it now! Forgetting your hands! We often focus all our anti-aging efforts on our face, but areas like hands can give away your age just as quickly. And I can bet your bottom dollar that many of us are not looking after this delicate area! The back of your hands have thinner skin and are often exposed to the sun and environmental damage, yet they’re frequently overlooked in our skincare routines. How to fix it: Whatever you do for your face, do for your hands! Its simple! Apply sunscreen, moisturiser, and anti-ageing products daily. We highly recommend Pevonia’s Collagen Hand Cream, its divinely nourishing and gives hands an instant lift in appearance and texture. Avoiding exfoliators It's not just fine lines and wrinkles that make you look older, having a dull uneven skin tone can easily add years to your face as well! As we age our skin's natural ability to shed dead cells declines, so without weekly exfoliation skin can become uneven, dull and lacklustre. This is why exfoliation is so imperative, and not a step that should be ignored. How to fix it: Many people are scared of exfoliation because they think their skin is too sensitive, and it will just aggravate an existing issue, but that's where natural enzyme exfoliators can be the answer. Hubislab's Pure Balance Papaya Enzyme Peeling Wash, Phytomer's Vegetal Exfoliant with Natural Enzymes and Pevonia's Enzymo Spherides Peeling Cream are formulated with natural enzymes which basically melt away dead cells so no scrubbing is needed. Just remember removing dead skin cells helps your skin properly absorb moisturiser which in turn keeps fine lines and dehydration at bay, as well as brightening skins radiance. Now, who wouldn't want that!! Or simply going overboard with exfoliating If you tend to sway the other way and love to exfoliate your skin a little too much i'm here to tell you stop it now! Over exfoliating can actually slow cell turnover and lead to irritation and inflammation. Over time, this can weaken your skin’s barrier, causing fine lines and wrinkles to appear more quickly. Your skin needs time to regenerate, and over-exfoliating can strip away essential oils and moisture, making you look older. How to fix it: Stick to exfoliation once, maybe twice a week for the best results. If you like to use an exfoliator with grains or microbeads but skin tends to be a little on the sensitive side give Pevonia's Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser a go. it’s great for those who love physical exfoliators with granules but want to steer clear of facial scrubs which could be a little harsh on the skin. It gently polishes your complexion with its unique creamy yet granular texture, formulated with jojoba beads, saponaria and chamomile, revealing a softer, smoother and brighter complexion every time! Not drinking enough water As I'm sitting here writing this, I can hold my hands up and say today so far I've only drunk 2 glasses of water when I should have in fact consumed at least a litre by now! Yes, it's fact, water, or lack of should I say is a real skin ager!! And I know I must practice what a preach! The thing is I do, but some days I will admit it's easy to forget! And when I do, I get cross with myself as I can see it in my skin! It's drier, duller and devitalised. This is because drinking 'enough' water helps the body to flush out toxins while increasing blood flow to the skin which gives it an even tone and dewy appearance! And dewy skin equals youthful skin after all! How to fix it: Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Adding water-rich foods like cucumbers and watermelon to your diet can also give your skin an extra hydration boost. Not a huge fan of water? Try a good herbal tea instead.   Yo-Yo Dieting Constantly fluctuating between losing and gaining weight can wreak havoc on your skin. Yo-yo dieting can cause your skin to stretch and lose elasticity, making it more prone to sagging and wrinkles. The loss of essential nutrients during restrictive diets can also lead to dull, unhealthy-looking skin. How to fix it: Focus on a balanced, nutrient-rich diet that supports overall health, including your skin. Healthy fats, antioxidants, and vitamins will keep your skin nourished and resilient.   Ignoring Stress Stress doesn’t just affect your mood—it can take a toll on your skin too. Stress increases cortisol, which breaks down collagen and leads to wrinkles. How to fix it: Make stress management a priority with mindfulness practices, regular exercise, and relaxation techniques. Indulging in hot showers and baths How many of us are guilty of indulging in a hot shower or simply washing our faces with water set to a high temp. Unfortunately extreme water temperatures will strip healthy natural oils from your skin quickly, making it dry and therefore age much faster. Water that's too hot can also dilate your capillaries leading to spider veins. How to fix it: For best and healthy results you should be washing with lukewarm water! Easier to achieve in the warmer months!   Not getting enough sleep....when you could get more If I had a dollar for every time I said to my husband I must get to bed early tonight because I need more sleep and am fed up of looking old and tired, I'd be a rich woman. While they say practice what you preach, I am a testament that not getting enough sleep (when I could indeed fit in another 1-2 hours a night (darn netflix!) literally does age you. Poor sleep is quite literally to blame for premature ageing, dermatitis, eczema, acne, loss of collagen and more! Scary right? So let's make a pact and try for that 8 hours + we really do need nightly. Now be sure to follow our advice to be sure you slow down the signs of ageing naturally! How to fix it: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to give your skin the time it needs to recover and rejuvenate.   Over doing your brows Yes, we need brows to look youthful, after all they frame the eyes and lift the face. Many of us tweezed our brows to thin lines in the 80’s only to find they never grew back so what to many of us do! Fill out our brows, but often with harsh, red toned pencils which im afraid can make us look hard and older! How to fix it: The goal is to create natural looking thicker brows like the ones we used to have. Opt for taupe colour brow products instead of warm browns, these will frame your eyes beautifully without taking over your face. Apply the brow product in soft stokes to create the illusion of natural hair. Be sure not to overfill the front part of your brow though! This area should have soft hair that graduates into more density. We recommend using the ELES Precision Brow Pencil. The soft, fine pencil allows you to perfectly line and fill your brows and the formula lasts for us to 10 hours! It’s amazing. Using the wrong tone of foundation Many foundations and BB Creams come in both warm and cool tones but remember for many of us cool tones can exacerbate signs of age! This is because they often have blue, pink, or ashy undertones, which can accentuate fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture. As skin ages, it tends to lose its natural warmth and radiance, so using a foundation with cool tones can make the complexion appear dull, flat, or even greyish too! Which in turn can also highlight dark circles or any sallowness in the skin. How to fix it: Opt for warmer tones that help counteract complexion pinkness that comes with thinning of the skin and exposure of fine capillaries. Warmer tones also conceal shadows better which means you need less concealer. We recommend using ELES Blue Light Radiant BB Cream 30, it’s packed with nature’s anti-ageing actives and leaves the skin glowing.   19. Overloading on foundation powder Face powder, when used correctly and frugally can be a fantastic makeup staple (I have been I’m in love with the ELES Mineral Powder Foundation for years!) however, no matter your skin type, too much face powder can actually age you! That’s right, it can highlight fine lines and wrinkles instead of helping to conceal them! How to fix it: Im not saying you have to totally forgo your trusty powder foundation compact, but it’s best to use powder sparingly – on your t-zone, or for quick touch-up’s, Or better still make sure you opt for a lightweight powder!   Using the wrong concealer or concealer shade As we mature and our face loses its youthful “plumpness”, shadow start to really appear under our eyes, around the nose, and at the corners of our mouth. It’s tempting to reach for a heavy duty, ultra-light shade concealer to hide these dark areas. The problem is that they just make the dark shadows look grey as opposed to concealing them! How to fix it: Opt instead for peachy toned, lightweight concealers that won’t cake on the skin and counteract the blue in the shadows. We recommend ELES Dual Action Concealer, it acts like 8 hours of sleep in a tube! We love it! Applying eye makeup that makes the eyes droop Who doesn’t love makeup! After all it can boost our confidence, enhance our natural beauty and help soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles! But sadly certain eye makeup techniques and products can make our eyes appear droopy as well as emphasize ageing signs as we get older! Thick, dark eyeliner, especially on the lower lash line, can make eyes look smaller and more tired. It can also draw attention to sagging skin around our delicate peepers. Then there is our eyeshadow! Eyeshadow enhances eye shape, adds depth and dimension making eyes appear more vibrant but shimmer and frosty shades while fun can settle into fine lines and wrinkles, exacerbating them and making our eyelids look more creased or droopy. How to fix it: To counteract this, opt for lighter, more neutral shades on the lids, keep eyeliner lighter, thin and lifted, and focus on lifting the upper lash line to create a more youthful, wide-eyed appearance. For your eyeliner we recommend ELES Superwear Gel Eyeliner, its soft and easy to blend out and once set won’t transfer to the lids. If you have hooded or droopy eyes here are some top tips to improve them naturally. Continuing to use that cold frosted lipstick we love As we age, similar to our skin, our lips start to lose volume and in turn fine lines start to form! Unfortunately that frosted lip colour that we once loved (and looked good) no longer does! This is because frosted lip colours enhance these lines making your lips age you even more! How to fix it: It’s time to change up your lipstick! Instead of that frosted favourite, opt for a cream or satin lipstick that will make your lips look fuller and smoother. Many of these contain moisturising molecules that plump the lips and keep them hydrated longer.   Going to bed with makeup on Well here's one you've heard many a time before! Right? From a few too many wines to being just plain old exhausted, sometimes it hard to peel yourself off your bed to go and remove your makeup but remove your makeup you must! Cleansing your face especially at night to remove not only your makeup but any remnants of the days sweat, dirt and grime is imperative for healthy skin. Not removing your makeup means your skin is unable to regenerate effectively while you sleep, pores clog, blemishes form and fatigue (ageing!) signs start to appear. Makeup can also trap dirt and pollution, which leads to oxidative stress—damaging your skin and breaking down collagen, the protein that keeps your skin firm and smooth. How to fix it: No matter how tired you are, make cleansing a non-negotiable part of your nighttime routine. Use a gentle cleanser or micellar water to remove makeup and grime, giving your skin a chance to breathe and repair while you sleep. For a fantastic makeup remover which effectively melts away makeup and grime with minimum effort try Phytomer's Doux Contour Eye and Lip Waterproof Makeup Remover. Combining the effectiveness of an oil (a trio of oils in fact) and the gentleness of a lotion, this ultra-hydrating makeup remover, eradicates even the most stubborn of lips and eye makeup fast! Sleeping on your stomach or side This one might surprise you, but the way you sleep can actually affect your skin. If you regularly sleep on your stomach or side, your face gets squished against the pillow, which can lead to wrinkles over time. These “sleep lines” tend to form around the eyes, cheeks, and forehead, making you look older. Just great I hear you say! How to fix it: Try sleeping on your back to reduce pressure on your face. Investing in a silk or satin pillowcase can also help, as it causes less friction on your skin than cotton.
How to reduce under eye wrinkles: 9 proven tips

How to reduce under eye wrinkles: 9 proven tips

by Jo Boyden on Sep 20 2024
If you’re in your 40s like me, it’s likely you’ve started to notice fine lines and wrinkles showing up under your eyes! Unfortunately the delicate skin around our precious peepers is one of the first areas to show signs of ageing, and whether it's from constant late nights, sun exposure, or simply because of your age, those wrinkles can make you look and feel older than you actually are. But all is not lost! I’m here to tell you there are ways to visibly reduce them and restore a more youthful, refreshed look! Keep reading as we count down 9 proven tips and products to help smooth out your under-eye area and keep those obvious wrinkles at bay.   Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! The skin under your eyes needs constant moisture to stay plump and healthy. Dry skin shows wrinkles more prominently, so it’s essential to hydrate both inside and out. Drink plenty of water throughout the day (think 8 glasses and more if you can!) and use an eye eye or serum in the morning specifically formulated for hydration. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and peptides to lock in moisture and plump up the skin.   Sun protection is a Must By now we should all know that UV rays are one of the leading causes of premature ageing, including under-eye wrinkles!! Daily use of a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher will protect your skin and eyes from harmful sun damage.   Invest in a gemstone roller A gemstone roller will not only help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, but when used correctly, it can dramatically reduce puffiness by moving excess fluid around your eyes towards your lymph nodes where it filters out the toxins too. Cool right? To find out more about the facial rollers and how to use them click here.   Invest in an anti-ageing eye cream specifically formulated to target under eye wrinkles At night make sure you apply a really nourishing anti-ageing eye cream. Look for ingredients such as vitamin C, retinol, collagen, hyaluronic acid, and peptides, which will help promote collagen production helping to reduce wrinkles but it will help brighten the under-eye area too! We love Vie Collection Chrono Eyes Puffiness – Dark Circles Wrinkle Cream. This outstanding eye cream draws its inspiration from the eye rejuvenating hyaluronic acid injections carried out in aesthetic doctors practices! It’s suitable for everyone, even those with super sensitive eyes and it does exactly what the bottle says! It attacks puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles with a powerful burst of encapsulated high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, injectables-like peptide, fatty acids, vitamin c and niacinamide for exceptional results.   Be armed with a good concealer Completely eradicating under eye wrinkles is next to impossible but it is possible to make your reduced wrinkles look non-existent by arming yourself with a really good concealer specifically for the delicate eye area. Simply dot the concealer using your pinky finger (the warmth of your fingers will help the concealer to melt into your skin creating a smooth, natural application). My go-to concealer is the ELES Dual Action Concealer. Its an anti-ageing wonder rich in Vitamins E & C, caffeine, collagen, hyaluronic acid and Tetrapeptide 5 which works to depuff, smooth, brighten and conceal the eyes, neutralizing dark circles and hiding fine lines. Its moisturising formula also provides continuous hydration as well as a natural longwearing finish meaning it lasts for hours without seeping into fine lines and wrinkles! Bonus!   Adjust your diet Make sure you eat foods rich in vitamin E which can help to fight enzymes that break down skin elasticity. Vitamin E also fights free radicals which causes wrinkles and ageing. It also helps to remove blemishes and dark circles too! Foods like almond, peanuts, sunflower seeds, spinach, and broccoli are good!   Don’t over expose your eyes to sun! Sunscreen isn’t the only way to protect your peepers from the sun! To prevent wrinkles from forming prematurely around the eyes, don’t forget to wear sunglasses, this will prevent squinting. Oh and opt for a protective hat too!   Get your beauty sleep! One of the most common contributors to undereye wrinkles is lack of sleep! Eek, so you need to ensure you are getting enough beauty sleep every night, we are talking 7-9 hours minimum! Lack of sleep affects your skin's hydration, collagen levels, and blood circulation. When you don’t get enough shut eye your skin becomes dehydrated, making fine lines and wrinkles more visible. Lack of sleep also increases cortisol, the stress hormone, which breaks down collagen—the protein responsible for keeping skin firm and smooth. And finally poor sleep reduces blood flow, causing the under-eye area to appear dull and tired, while fluid retention leads to puffiness and sagging, further exaggerating wrinkles!! Yet another reason why quality sleep is so essential!   Upgrade your pillow case If you are one for sleeping with your face in the pillow, you might want to consider switching up your cotton pillowcase to a silk or satin alternative instead. Silk has natural moisturising properties to retain moisture around the eyes. The dense weave of the silky-smooth fibres also keep moisture close to your skin, this extra moisture can help to reduce dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles. Just remember, Rome wasn’t built in day, and your under-eye skin won’t transform overnight either sadly (if only!) Be patient and be religious with these steps and you’ll be waking up to smoother, brighter and younger looking eyes soon!

Asiaticoside: The Healing Hero Asiaticoside, derived from a plant called Centella Asiatica (also known as Gotu Kola), is renowned for its remarkable skin healing and regenerative properties. This natural ingredient boosts collagen synthesis, improving skin firmness and elasticity. It also enhances circulation, promoting faster wound healing and reducing the appearance of scars making it an excellent ingredient for rejuvenating the skin. Asiaticoside is also effective in calming inflammation and soothing sensitive skin and is known for its ability to rejuvenate and strengthen the skin barrier, contributing to a healthier and more resilient skin appearance. Its antioxidant properties protect the skin from environmental damage and oxidative stress, helping to maintain a youthful, healthy complexion. Hydrolyzed Collagen: The Building Block of Youthful Skin Collagen is the most abundant protein in our skin, responsible for its strength and elasticity. As we age, our collagen production dramatically decreases, leading to sagging skin and wrinkles. Hydrolyzed collagen, a form where collagen molecules are broken down into smaller, easily absorbed peptides, helps to replenish the skin's collagen supply. This boosts skin hydration, improves elasticity, improves skin’s texture and reduces the appearance of fine lines, giving you a plumper, more youthful complexion. With its ability to strengthen the skin barrier, hydrolyzed collagen protects against environmental stressors and promotes a more resilient complexion. This makes it a valuable ingredient in anti-ageing and hydrating skincare products. Niacinamide also reduces inflammation and redness, making it perfect for sensitive or acne-prone skin. This multifaceted ingredient also regulates sebum production, helping to minimize pores and improve overall skin texture. Its antioxidant properties further protect the skin from environmental damage, supporting long-term skin health and resilience. With its ability to improve skin texture, tone, and overall resilience, niacinamide is a foundation of effective anti-ageing skincare. Try; New Vie Collection Serum De Vie – High Performance Youth Concentrate. This multi-tasking and richly hydrating serum works at a cellular level to protect skin cells and restore a more youthful appearance. An EGF-like peptide enhances cell division to smooth wrinkles, while niacinamide slows the transfer of melanin to key parts of your skin to fade the look of dark spots. Bakuchiol: Nature’s Retinol Alternative Often dubbed as a natural alternative to retinol, bakuchiol is derived from the seeds and leaves of the Psoralea corylifolia plant. Unlike retinol, which can cause irritation and dryness, bakuchiol is gentle on the skin while still delivering powerful anti-ageing benefits. It helps stimulate collagen production, reduce fine lines, and improve skin elasticity, making it a go-to ingredient for those seeking a natural yet effective anti-ageing solution. Try; Naturys Anti-Age No Age Fluid Cream This fast absorbing, beautifully light fluid cream is not only formulated with bakuchiol but also peptides and vitamin c, making it a powerhouse antioxidant product perfect for preserving skins youthfulness! Peptides

Peptides: How this ingredient is transforming skincare

by Jo Boyden on May 03 2024
You’ve probably heard about Peptides, another key ingredient we are told to incorporate into our everyday skincare routine! But when we are already slathering on Vitamin C, Retinol, Collagen, Niacinamide (and more!) in our quest to defy premature ageing and achieve healthy, glowing skin, why are peptides so essential too? Keep reading as we uncover all there is to know about peptides and how these unsung heroes can help to transform your complexion. Firstly though, what are peptides?Hailed as the key to achieving, youthful, radiant skin, peptides are short chains of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, including collagen, elastin and keratin, crucial for maintaining skin structure and elasticity. What do peptides do for your skin? These small but mighty molecules are gaining recognition for their remarkable ability to address various signs of ageing, making them a coveted ingredient in skincare formulations. As we age, our production of collagen, elastin and keratin decline, leading to fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. Peptides work by signalling the skin to produce more of these proteins replenishing what’s lost and in turn helping to restore a more youthful complexion! Clever stuff hey?Key benefits of peptides in skincare: Peptides boost collagen production Peptides stimulate collagen synthesis, promoting firmer, plumper skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Peptides enhance skin elasticity By supporting elastin production, peptides help improve skin elasticity, leading to a smoother and more youthful-looking complexion. Peptides improve skin texture Peptides can help refine skin texture, minimizing the appearance of pores and promoting a smoother, more even skin tone. Peptides hydrate and nourish Some peptides have moisturising properties, helping to hydrate the skin and maintain its barrier function, preventing moisture loss and enhancing overall skin health. Peptides protect against environmental damage Certain peptides have antioxidant properties, defending the skin against free radicals and environmental stressors, which can accelerate skin ageing. How to incorporate peptides into your skincare routineLook for skincare products containing peptides, such as serums, moisturisers, and eye creams. These products are formulated to deliver peptides directly to the skin, maximizing their effectiveness. Incorporate them into your daily skincare routine, applying them after cleansing and toning, and before moisturising. Consistency is key to seeing visible results, so use peptide-rich products regularly to reap their full benefits. Can you layer peptides with vitamin c and other key ingredients?Overall, peptides work well with other key skincare ingredients including vitamin c, niacinamide, retinol, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid, and can generally be layered with them to address multiple skin concerns and achieve optimal results. However, layering peptides with AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) is not advisable as the AHAs will actually make the peptides work less efficiently. Are peptides good for all skin types including sensitive skin?Peptides can be beneficial for all skin types, including sensitive skin, when used in appropriate formulations and concentrations. Since peptides are generally gentle and well-tolerated by most skin types, they are less likely to cause irritation or sensitivity reactions. Peptides can offer valuable benefits for sensitive skin, such as improving hydration, enhancing skin barrier function, and promoting a more youthful complexion. However, it's essential to choose peptide products that are specifically formulated for sensitive skin and free from potential irritants such as fragrances, dyes, and harsh preservatives. The peptide skincare products we are loving:Naturys Anti-Age Multi-Peptide Serum - Formulated with hyaluronic acid, this product packs a punch when it comes to hydration but thanks to its additional combination of nourishing and anti-ageing ingredients including an array of peptides and vitamin C, it leaves your skin softer, smoother and visibly radiant too. sagging skin

Worried about sagging skin? The best tips to firm your face

by Jo Boyden on May 03 2024
Ageing. We all know it’s inevitable, but no one wants to wake up one day and find gravity playing tricks on their face! Sadly though, sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles are all a natural part of the ageing process, but this doesn't mean we can’t do something to help slow down or improve their appearance. With the right preventive measures and skincare routine, you can prevent your skin from sagging prematurely and maintain firm and youthful-looking skin for years to come. Keep reading as we discuss the best tips for preventing sagging skin and achieving a more lifted, toned complexion. Firstly though what is sagging skin on the face?Sagging skin on the face refers to the loss of firmness and elasticity in the skin, leading to a drooping or sagging appearance. It occurs when the skin's supportive structures weaken over time. As a result, the skin loses its ability to bounce back, causing it to sag or droop, particularly in areas such as the cheeks, jawline, and neck. What causes sagging skin? You could be asking yourself why is your face suddenly sagging? Sagging skin on the face is actually caused by multiple factors. These include; Loss of Collagen and Elastin One of the main contributors to skin sagging is the decrease in the production of collagen and elastin, responsible for skin elasticity and firmness. As we age, our collagen and elastin levels decline and as a result the skin loses its ability to bounce back, resulting in sagging and drooping.Decreased skin hydrationHydration plays a crucial role in maintaining the plumpness and suppleness of the skin. With age, the skin's ability to retain moisture diminishes, resulting in dryness and dehydration. Dehydrated skin is more prone to sagging and wrinkles, as it lacks the necessary moisture to maintain its elasticity.Reduction in Facial Fat and Muscle ToneAs we age, the fat pads in our face begin to weaken, causing the skin to lose volume and support. Additionally, weakening of the facial muscles over time can contribute to sagging and drooping of facial tissues. These changes in fat distribution and muscle tone can result in a loss of facial contour and definition.UV and Blue Light damageProlonged exposure to UV rays from the sun and Blue Light damage from our devices accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibres in the skin. UV and Blue Light damage weakens the skin's structural support, leading to premature ageing signs such as sagging, wrinkles, and fine lines.Lifestyle FactorsCertain lifestyle habits, such as smoking, poor nutrition, and excessive alcohol consumption, can contribute to the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. Smoking, in particular, has been linked to accelerated skin ageing and sagging due to its detrimental effects on blood circulation and oxygen delivery to the skin tissues.GeneticsThis one you can blame on your parents for! Unfortunately genetics can also influence the rate at which our skin ages and how saggy it becomes! Sadly some of us will develop sagging skin much earlier than others due to our genetic makeup! Eek. How to prevent sagging skinWhile some degree of face sagging is a natural part of the ageing process, there are various things we can do to help improve skin firmness and minimize the appearance of sagging skin. Stay Hydrated Hydration is key to maintaining the elasticity and suppleness of our skin. It’s nothing new but drinking plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out is essential. Water helps keep your skin cells plump and hydrated which in turn promotes elasticity. Additionally, use hydrating skincare products containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture and plump up the skin. Always wear sunscreen Protecting our skin from UV rays and Blue Light damage with sunscreen and sun-protective measures can dramatically help prevent premature ageing and in turn sagging skin. Wear sunscreen with a high SPF every. single. day no matter what the weather, always consider wearing a hat and seek shade during peak hours when UV is at its most damaging. Follow a Healthy Diet Eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals can support skin health and prevent sagging. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your diet to provide your skin with essential nutrients and promote collagen production. Including foods such as broccoli, spinach, sweet potato, avocado, nuts and blueberries will work wonders!! Exercise Regularly Regular exercise not only helps maintain a healthy weight but also helps keep sagging skin at bay! This is because it promotes circulation and muscle tone, which can contribute to firmer, more lifted skin. Incorporate strength training exercises targeting the face, neck, and body to keep your muscles toned and prevent sagging. Practice Good Skincare Habits Follow a consistent skincare routine that includes cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising, this will keep skin supple and looking younger for longer. Use Skincare Products with Active Ingredients As well as products formulated with Hyaluronic acid, you’ll want to use skincare containing active ingredients known for their firming and tightening properties. The most effective ingredients to help prevent premature skin sagging includes retinol, peptides, vitamin C, and niacinamide. These ingredients can help stimulate collagen production, improve skin elasticity, and reduce the appearance of sagging. Incorporate facial massage into your daily routine Gentle facial massage techniques can help improve circulation and lymphatic drainage, promoting firmer, glowy and more lifted skin over time. Because it stimulates the facial muscles, a massage is like a mini-workout for your face. It engorges the muscles with blood to oxygenate the skin cells and gives “tone” to your muscles.Incorporate a gentle facial massage using your fingertips or a jade roller into your daily skincare routine. To learn more about the many benefits of facial massage click here Get enough zzzz’s We all know that getting enough sleep is important for our overall health, but did you know it can also improve your skin’s elasticity? During sleep, our body produces collagen and repairs any damage that’s been done to our skin throughout the day. However when we are sleep deprived, our bodies produce more cortisol, a stress hormone that can actually break down collagen! It’s best to aim for 7-9 hours of sleep a night to give your skin the rest it needs. The best skincare products to prevent or improve sagging skin on your facePhytomer Structuriste Firming Contour SerumNo one likes seeing their skin start to sag as we age thanks to the breakdown in collagen and elastin, but with this miracle firming face serum all is not lost! beauty mistakes that make you look younger

19 beauty mistakes that can make you look older than you are

by Jo Boyden on Feb 23 2024
Ever find yourself staring in the mirror and wondering why you’re looking older than you actually are (or feel!) despite investing in expensive skincare and makeup products time and time again? Well you most certainly aren’t alone! Unfortunately many of us are guilty of accidentally adding years to our face thanks to a number of beauty mistakes we are making! From basking in the sun without SPF (eek!) to overdoing the foundation, keep reading as we count down 20 beauty mistakes that could be making you look older than you are! Becoming complacent with your skincare routine One of the cardinal sins in the beauty world is neglecting your skincare routine. No amount of makeup can compensate for poor skin health, nor will your makeup look good without proper skin prep! Yes, many of us are time poor, especially in the mornings, but I can’t express how important it is to invest, even just a little time, into a proper skincare routine. This starts with cleansing your skin every morning. Not moisturising before applying your makeup Hydrated skin is key to creating the perfect smooth surface for makeup. If your skin is dehydrated it can have an adverse effect on your foundation’s appearance and make skin appear dull, dry and flaky too! Both your morning and evening skincare routine, no matter how busy you are, should include a good nourishing serum and anti-ageing moisturiser. Try products formulated with marine collagen and hyaluronic acid, two anti-ageing wonder ingredients. Just be sure not to overload your skin with product or overstimulate the sebum glands as producing excess oil can cause foundation to slide off your skin revealing what might be a less than desired complexion. Try; Two BC best-sellers – Pevonia Hyalouric Acid Hydra Serum and Pevonia Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream. Ignoring eye care Unfortunately our eyes are the first area of our face to show ageing, so you need to show it love just as you would the rest of your face! This means applying a good eye cream daily! Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia.Eye creams also tend to be targeted to specific eye concerns such as crow’s feet, under eye bags and dark circles. Want younger looking eyes? Start wearing eye cream or eye gel today! Not applying sunscreen every. single. day This one's a no-brainer. Sun damage is the ultimate age accelerator, wreaking havoc on collagen and elasticity. You need to embrace daily sunscreen, rain or shine, if you don’t you really will be adding years to your face instead of reducing them! Forgetting regular exfoliation is a must As we age, our skin’s natural exfoliation process slows down and causes a build up of dead, dull skin, leading to a dull complexion and emphasizing fine lines. Regular exfoliation however helps to slough off the dead skin, promoting cell turnover and revealing a fresher, more youthful-looking complexion. Be sure to exfoliate at least once a week. If you’re worried about exfoliating because you have sensitive skin try using an enzyme exfoliator free of granules. For more on the beautifying benefits of exfoliation click here. Choosing the wrong shade of foundation We understand, you want your skin to look like you have a healthy glow but you shouldn’t attempt to achieve this with your foundation! Opting for a shade too dark or heavy will not only create a mask like effect but it will highlight wrinkles too! You need to choose a shade that perfectly matches your skin tone! Choosing the wrong foundation formula Talking of foundation, choosing the correct shade isn’t the only thing you have to worry about, choosing the incorrect formula can add years to your face too! There is this pretence that as we age, we should opt for thicker foundation to cover our imperfections but actually when you use a full-coverage foundation or are too heavy-handed with your application, the makeup settles into the wrinkles, pronouncing them even more! Just remember quality over quantity! Steer clear of the thick, full coverage foundation, instead opt for light, sheer bases that can be buildable, this way you can focus on areas that need that extra coverage. Try; ELES Cosmetics New Blue Light Radiant BB Cream 30. It literally primes, tints, nourishes, conceals and evens out skin tone, plus it protects skin from UVA, UVB, Blue Light and free radical damage, Genius! Using too much powder to set your makeup While setting makeup is important, piling on the powder can accentuate wrinkles and dryness. Use a light, mineral based powder and focus on the T-zone, and leave the rest of your skin with a natural finish. For mature, dry or dehydrated skin, opting for a good setting spray might be best. Try Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist – Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, ultra-calming Chamomile, Aloe, Green Tea and aromatic essential oils, this multi-tasting product helps makeup stay in place all day long (no more looking in the mirror mid-morning and seeing that makeup has disappeared from your face!) Rubbing Your Eyes The area around your eyes is the most delicate on your face, fact. When we are tired it’s easy to fall into the trap of rubbing our eyes, or when applying eye makeup with precision. We’ve all been guilty of pulling at our eyes I’m sure, but tugging, rubbing or pulling at your eye area can cause tiny blood vessels to break resulting in dark circles that make you look tired All. Of. The. Time. Instead, start applying an anti-ageing eye cream morning and night pronto! I am currently loving Vie Collection’s Chrono Eyes Puffiness-Dark Circles Wrinkles Cream. It’s a beautifully fine cream enriched with moisturising ingredients to nourish the eye area while reversing puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles! Seriously! Not looking after your eyebrows Just as the hair on our heads can thin with age, so do our eyebrows, so to look younger, we want to create instantly fake fullness and to do this we need to fill them in with the perfect brow pencil! Just be sure you don’t overfill the front part of your brow though! This area should have soft hair that graduates into more density. If you overfill this area you can make your eye brows look way too harsh. Read more on how to create perfect brows and get grooming! Using harsh eyeliner shade Yes, eyeliner is essential for defining eyes, I wouldn’t live without mine but using a harsh black liner can emphasize under-eye circles and make eyes appear smaller. Try using a brown or grey liner, focusing on tightlining for definition. Blush Blunder Applying blush too low can drag down your features. Sweep it upwards towards your temples for a youthful lift. Caking on concealer under your eyes Caking on concealer to hide dark circles can actually worsen the problem. Use a lightweight formula and apply it in thin layers. Neglecting your hands While your facial skincare routine is crucial, so many of us forget to look after our hands! An area always in the sun and as a result often show signs of ageing first! Apply sunscreen, moisturize, and treat them with the same care you give your face. Ignoring Your Neck and Decolletage Another forgotten area! And the area of your skin which can actually age you the most! Exposed to sunlight just as much as your face (and hands!), if your neck and decolletage aren’t cared for daily or protected with SPF, they can end up crepey and wrinkly so much earlier than they should! Whatever you do for your face you should do for your neck and decolletage too. There are neck and chest specific products you can use, try Pevonia’s Age Correction Rapid Restore Neck and Chest religiously, it’s a 2 in 1 serum and cream which hydrates, nourishes refines and brightens skin for a more youthful appearance while smoothing wrinkles too! But there is also nothing wrong with using your daily moisturiser or a hydrating body cream instead! Just start doing it now! Going to sleep with your makeup still on! I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of skipping our evening cleansing routine once in a while because the idea of peeling ourselves off our bed just doesn’t feel like an option, but did you know just how bad this can be for your skin? Not removing your makeup at night hinders the skin renewal process that takes place while you sleep. The days makeup and grime can clog the pores and trap dirt which can be damaging to your skin and fatigue (ageing!) signs start to appear. And then there are your eyes. Mascara makes your lashes stiff; it’s part of its job, but leaving it on while you sleep will cause the stiffness to turn into dryness that can trigger lashes to break and soon result to lash fallouts! For hassle free cleansing use a all rounder makeup remover like Phytomer’s Doux Contour Eye and Lip Waterproof Makeup Remover. It's a fantastic and effectively melts away makeup and grime with minimum effort! Combining the effectiveness of an oil (a trio of oils in fact) and the gentleness of a lotion, this ultra-hydrating makeup remover, eradicates even the most stubborn of lips and eye makeup fast!Another cleanser we are loving is Pevonia’s new CleanRefresh Foaming Oil Cleanser. Its oil formulation transforms into a luscious foamy cleanser on application when mixed with water and it leaves skin feeling fantastically refreshed and beautifully clean without the drying effects that other cleansers can leave. Plus its subtle scent is just heavenly. Not drinking enough water As I’m sitting here writing this, I can hold my hands up and say today so far I’ve only drunk 2 glasses of water when I should have in fact consumed at least a litre by now! Yes, it’s fact, water, or lack of should I say is a real skin ager!! And I know I must practice what a preach! The thing is I do, but some days I will admit it’s easy to forget! And when I do, I get cross with myself as I can see it in my skin! It’s drier, duller and devitalised. This is because drinking ‘enough’ water helps the body to flush out toxins while increasing blood flow to the skin which gives it an even tone and dewy appearance! And dewy skin equals youthful skin after all!Not a huge fan of water? Try a good herbal tea instead. Indulging in a shower or bath that is way to hot! How many of us are guilty of indulging in a hot shower or simply washing our faces with water set to a high temp. But really for best and healthy results we should be washing with lukewarm water. This is because extreme water temperatures will strip healthy natural oils from your skin quickly, making it dry and therefore age much faster. Water that’s too hot can also dilate your capillaries leading to spider veins. Not getting enough shut eye If I had a dollar for every time I said to my husband I must get to bed early tonight because I need more sleep and am fed up of looking old and tired, I’d be a rich woman. While they say practice what you preach, I am a testament that not getting enough sleep (when I could indeed fit in another 1-2 hours a night (darn netflix!) literally does age you. Beauty sleep is real! Poor sleep is quite literally to blame for premature ageing, dermatitis, eczema, acne, loss of collagen and more! Scary right? So let’s make a pact and try for that 8 hours + we really do need nightly and enjoy reduced puffiness and radiant skin instead!

Crazy right? Making it THE super hydrator of the skincare world, especially more recently as advancement in technical innovation has changed it for the better! Now, thanks to its molecular structure Hyaluronic acid has the ability to deeply penetrate to instantly deliver supple, dewy skin in a matter of seconds! It also rubs into skin seamlessly without leaving a white cast or greasy residue behind. And even better, the formula is reef-safe and works for all skin types and tones! Incorporate retinol The ultimate ingredient for skin renewal! In fact, it is hailed as the holy grail of the skincare world. Why?Retinol offers a multitude of benefits. From stimulating collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine lines and preventing wrinkles, to correcting hyperpigmentation, reducing large pores and clearing acne. Retinol also has the ability to speed cell turnover making cells function like that of a child! How?Apply gentle retinol products topically to your skin. It is best to introduce retinol products slowly – apply it only at night, one or two times a week for the first week and gradually increase application. Retinols are best applied at night, particularly because it makes your skin more photosensitive and should be used in conjunction with sunscreen in the day (although you should be using SPF daily, round around anyway!).When applying your retinol cream, allow the product to fully absorb into the skin (this could take up to 30 minutes) before layering any other products. Just make sure to use any acne-fighting products (i.e. anything that includes benzoyl peroxides or salicylic acid) on the nights you don’t use your retinol product.Prepare for the inevitable adjustment period your skin will go through before you see the results you want. Because retinol causes the skin to shed cells faster than normal, you’ll likely experience a few weeks of change to your skin including some flakiness and dryness. And finally, give the product time to work its magic. This could take a few months but the results WILL be worth it. We promise!Try: Pevonia Micro-Retinol Essential Moisturiser. Want more youthful eyes? The best eye cream ingredients

by Jo Boyden on Jan 26 2024
If you’ve recently noticed that your eyes are beginning to show obvious signs of ageing and it's starting to concern you, it's time you thought about investing in a good quality eye cream. You might be wondering where to start though, since let’s face it, there are many eye creams, gels, serums and treatments on the market, and you don’t want to fork out for something and not see results right? This is why, when it comes to eye creams, the right ingredients can make all the difference, especially when it comes to addressing specific concerns around your delicate eye area.Whether you are battling dark circles, puffiness perhaps? Or it’s the fine lines and wrinkles that are concerning you, below is a list of the best ingredients you’ll want to look out for when making your eye cream purchase. Firstly though, why is an eye cream so important? Will a moisturiser not suffice?Eye treatments whether it be creams, gels or serums are specifically formulated to target and care for the delicate area around the eyes, the thinnest layer of skin on our entire bodies! In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage.Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. The bottom line is that eye creams are essentially facial moisturisers that are modified for use on the more delicate skin around the eyes this includes the use of specific ingredients. Here are the ones you should be looking out for…. Hyaluronic Acid A truly powerhouse ingredient for hydration, hyaluronic acid attracts and retains moisture, plumping the skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines. For more on hyaluronic acid and the reasons why you should use this ingredient under your eyes click here Retinol Known for its anti-ageing properties, retinol helps stimulate collagen production and promote cell turnover, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.Just be sure to start with a lower concentration of retinol and gradually increase to avoid any irritation as the eye area is sensitive. Collagen This powerhouse protein helps improve elasticity and firmness, reducing the appearance of fine lines, making those crow’s feet less noticeable! Vitamin C A powerful antioxidant, vitamin C brightens dark circles, helps with collagen synthesis, and protects the skin from environmental damage. Niacinamide (Vit B3) Niacinamide helps improve the elasticity of the skin, reduces inflammation, and brightens the under-eye area. Caffeine Caffeine constricts blood vessels, reducing puffiness and dark circles. It also has antioxidant properties. Caviar Caviar extract is as close as we'll come to a time machine for those fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes. Eye treatment formulated with caviar have powerful anti-ageing effects by tightening fibres in the skin while replenishing them with key nutrients. Peptides Peptides stimulate collagen production, improving skin firmness and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Ceramides Ceramides strengthen the skin barrier, preventing moisture loss and addressing dryness around the eyes. Crow’s feet: How to improve its appearance

by Jo Boyden on Nov 03 2023
We’ve all heard of crow’s feet, many of us over the age of 40 have likely encountered them, but how do you reduce their appearance, or prevent them from forming in the first place? If you are on the lookout for natural ways to treat crow’s feet around your eyes, look no further! We've put together a list of top tips and natural remedies to help you treat your crow’s feet effectively, without the use of harsh products or invasive procedures (the idea of fillers terrifies me!) Keep reading as we reveal them all! Firstly what are crow’s feet? A common skincare concern, crow’s feet (otherwise known as expression lines) are fine lines and wrinkles that form on the outer corners of your eyes as you age. As the skin around our eyes is exceptionally delicate (and thin!) crow’s feet can start to form fairly early for some due to constant muscle use in this area, as well as a gradual reduction in skin's elasticity. What causes crow’s feet?Crow’s feet are caused by a combination of factors, including ageing (due to a decrease in skin's collagen and elastin production), sun exposure, and repetitive facial expressions. Diet and your genetics can also be contributing factors. How do you get rid of crow’s feet? While it’s impossible to stop your eyes from ageing, there are a number of natural ways to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and maintain a more youthful looking eye area. Here’s how; Hydration is key As we age the skin around our eyes becomes dryer, thinner and loses its elasticity which leads to fine lines and wrinkles! And unfortunately the dryer this delicate area, the more visible those unwanted wrinkles are!Keeping your delicate eye area well-hydrated can help plump up the skin and minimize the appearance of fine lines. Use a hydrating eye cream or serum specifically formulated to target fine lines and crow's feet.Try Pevonia Age Correction Eye Contour. This power repair eye contour gives tired, ageing eyes the burst of hydration they need! Deeply nourishing thanks to its combination of marine collagen and marine elastin hyaluronic acid, it targets signs of fatigue, visibly reducing puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles. What more could you want?“Reduces wrinkles and firms eyelids. It’s also cool and soothing to eye area. No oily film to interfere with applying eye makeup. Have seen reduction in fine lines in crow’s feet area.” Laura L Exfoliate Shedding dead skin and revealing a younger, healthier layer of skin beneath helps reduce the appearance of crow's feet, fine lines, and surface wrinkles. Stronger forms of AHAs may also help boost your skin's collagen production, thereby providing additional crow's feet treatment. Get enough sleep. When you don't get enough sleep, your skin can become dull and wrinkled and wrinkles around your eyes can become increasingly more obvious. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep minimum each night. Apply cucumbers over your eyes I’ve talked about this before and for good reason. Cucumber slices are known for their cooling and soothing properties. Place chilled cucumber slices over your eyes for 10-15 minutes to reduce puffiness and refresh the delicate skin around your eyes. Apply Green tea bags as an eye compress Green tea isn't just for drinking; it's also a potent antioxidant that can work wonders topically for your skin. Brew some green tea, let it cool, then soak a clean cloth in the tea and gently place it over your closed eyes for 15 minutes. The antioxidants in green tea can help reduce inflammation and promote smoother, firmer skin. Apply chamomile tea bags for soothing relief And finally as with green tea bags, chamomile tea bags can really help the eye area when applied topically. Chamomile is renowned for its calming and anti-inflammatory properties. Simply place two chamomile tea bags in hot water, let them cool, then place them over your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes. This can help reduce puffiness and inflammation, giving your eyes a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. Manage stress Stress can also contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as exercise, yoga, or meditation. How do you prevent crow's feet from forming in the first place? There are several lifestyle choices you can make to help fight the formation of crow’s feet. Wear sunglasses The delicate skin around our eyes is particularly susceptible to UV damage as it is thinner and more prone to wrinkling. By wearing sunglasses daily, you create a shield against the sun's harmful UV rays, protecting this sensitive area from sun exposure and thereby reducing the risk of developing crow's feet.Wearing sunglasses can also help to reduce squinting, one of the main contributors to crow's feet. Apply sunscreen every. single. day Wearing sunglasses isn’t the only thing to help shield your delicate eye area from sun damage. Actually wearing sunscreen daily is imperative too!The sun is hands down the no. 1 cause of premature ageing and therefore crow’s feet, and by wearing sunscreen religiously you can help prevent it! Go gentle on the delicate eye area Treat your eye area with the utmost care. Avoid harsh rubbing or tugging as this can damage your delicate eye area causing the tissue around your eyes to thin, making it more fragile and therefore be more susceptible to wrinkles. Practice eye exercises Performing simple eye exercises such as gentle massage can help improve blood circulation and reduce tension around the eyes potentially minimizing wrinkle formation. Incorporate retinol into your daily skincare routine Incorporating a retinol-based eye cream into your skincare routine can work wonders for your skin. Retinol helps boost collagen production and encourages cell turnover, leading to firmer, more youthful-looking skin. Drink plenty of water every single day Say no more. Water is life. We all know drinking plenty of water has an outstanding effect onour skin's health, so drink, drink, drink! Apply eye masks Treat yourself to some nourishing eye masks infused with hydrating and collagen-boosting ingredients. These can provide an instant plumping and brightening effect, giving your under-eye area a refreshed appearance. Eat a healthy diet If you’re looking for a simple solution for how to prevent crow’s feet, try to eat more of the following foods. Fish rich in omega-3s essential fatty acids such as salmon Avocados Nuts and seeds Extra virgin olive oil Berries Green leafy vegetables Foods high in antioxidants can help fight free radicals and pollution that contribute to lines and wrinkles. Avoid smoking Smoking it’s just bad for your health, it can seriously affect your skin's appearance too! This is because smoking can accelerate the ageing process quite significantly and contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Get yourself some reading glasses as soon as you need them! As we age, our vision can become impaired which causes us to squint, especially when we are trying to read or scroll through at our devices. Squinting is actually one of the main causes of crow’s feet, eek, so if you notice your eye sight deteriorating slightly go get your eyes tested immediately.Just remember, while crow's feet are a natural part of the aging process, taking care of your skin and following these tips can help minimize their appearance and promote a more youthful, radiant eye area.
under eye crepiness

Top tips to improve under eye crepiness

by Jo Boyden on Sep 01 2023
If like me, you’re in your 40’s (or older), you may have fallen victim to under eye crepiness – that undesirable loose, wrinkled skin that can make you look tired, but also older than you actually are! This is because as we age the collagen and elastin levels in our skin starts to decline, as it does the delicate skin around our eyes (one of the first and most prevalent areas to show premature ageing) becomes dryer and thinner, and well crepey! Luckily all is not lost though! There are a number of steps you can take to improve its appearance, and we aren’t talking chemical peels, dermal fillers, laser and Botox, no siree, we are all about natural, non-intrusive alternatives. Keep reading as we reveal them all!Firstly though, why might you be more susceptible to under eye crepiness? The most common cause of fine lines, wrinkles and crepey skin under your eyes is unfortunately ageing, which can of course be influenced by genetics (thank you Mum and Dad!) But other common contributing factors which may be possible to avoid include;UV radiation – exposure to UV rays accelerates the breakdown of collagen leading to premature ageing, this is why it’s essential to protect our peepers! If you don’t wear sunnies every single day like you do your sunscreen, you should now!Smoking – smoking exposures your skin to extra oxidative stress, in turn damaging its collagen and elastin. Smoking also constricts the blood vessels under your eyes by blocking circulation to your blood vessels and depriving your skin of necessary vitamin A.Environmental factors - environmental factors, such as dry weather, wind, and pollution can all contribute to undereye ageing.Pulling repetitive expressions – well I’m definitely guilty of this! Facial expressions, like smiling, frowning, and furrowing your brow, can cause fine lines to develop prematurely around your delicate eye area. Eek!Even the way we sleep can have a negative impact on our eyes! What you might say? Yup, if you sleep with your face buried in your pillow (guilty as charged) you are likely to be more prone to premature fine lines, wrinkles and eye crepiness, than those that don’t! Aghhh. How can you improve undereye crepiness?Although crepey skin will not disappear overnight, it can be drastically improved with time, the right anti-aging products, as well as lifestyle changes. It can take weeks or even months to see results, but by following these top 10 tips you can bid adieu to that saggy, sullen, crepey skin under your eyes. Stay hydrated. All. The. Time. Yes, you’ve heard it a million times before, drink all the water. Hydration is key my friends. Make sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day (we’re talking 8 glasses minimum). When you drink water, it’s like giving your skin a drink from the inside out too (and that water has to nourish all your other vital organise too! Treat sunscreen like is your BFF Never underestimate the power of sunscreen. Those harmful UV rays are a major contributor to premature aging. So, slather on that sunscreen every morning, even on cloudy days. Your future self will thank you!Not a huge fan of sunscreen? We get it. Soo many sunscreens feel greasy, don’t smell great or simply don’t sit well on our skin, and then there are those thick white sunscreens that look like a paste when applied too! That’s why we love the ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection SPF 50. It’s not greasy but instead silky soft, the scent isn’t unpleasant, and it applies beautifully to my skin. And thanks to its formulation its helps nourish and restore skins luminosity too, not to mention it’s high SPF of 50! Invest in an eye cream rich in hyaluronic acid and use it day and night Investing in a good quality eye cream that's packed with hydrating and skin-loving ingredients including hyaluronic acid and peptides will do wonders for ageing eyes. Gently pat the product around your eyes morning and night for that extra boost of moisture and optimal results. For more on the benefits of using hyaluronic acid under your eyes and our 3 favourite eye treatments click here. Add a gemstone facial roller to your daily beauty routine The roller will, not only help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, when used correctly, it can dramatically reduce puffiness by moving excess fluid around your eyes towards your lymph nodes where it filters out the toxins too. Cool right? To find out more about the facial rollers and how to use them click here. Introduce tea time for your eyes Tea isn’t just for drinking you know, it’s also good for soothing your eyes too! Try placing cold tea bags (caffeine free, herbal tea is best!) on your closed eyes for a few minutes. The tannins in tea can help tighten the skin and reduce puffiness too! Consider practicing eye massage Light massage with your ring finger can improve bloody circulation and actually help your skin appear smoother. Remember gentle, gentle though as applying too much pressure to already thin, delicate skin can have the adverse effect! Give your eyes a rest from screen time Increased time in front of your laptop and on your phone can reap havoc with your precious peepers. In fact, spending just two consecutive hours on a digital device can cause eyestrain or fatigue while overexposure to blue light also suppresses the release of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep, therefore disrupting our normal sleep pattern. And we all know poor sleep can lead to premature ageing, especially around the delicate eye area! Make healthy lifestyle choices Your overall health reflects on your skin, including the delicate eye area. Eat a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids. And if you're a smoker, consider kicking the habit – smoking accelerates skin aging like nobody's business. Using gentle cleansing is a must Be kind to your skin when you cleanse but also never skip on cleansing, it’s a must, just be sure to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser that doesn't strip away your skin's natural oils. Harsh cleansers can contribute to dryness and crepiness. Try Medicalia’s Gentle Cleanser. Introduce cold compress magic Incorporate cold compresses into your routine. Applying a cold, damp cloth or chilled spoons over your eyes for a few minutes can help reduce puffiness and refresh your skin. Keep skin hydrated Invest in a good hydrating mist. A quick spritz throughout the day can give your skin the moisture it craves, helping to minimize crepiness. We love Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist. It’s one of my all time favourites. Make sure you get enough Zzzz’s Beauty sleep is real people! After all it’s not dubbed beauty sleep for nothing! Make sure you're getting enough restful sleep each night. Elevate your head slightly with an extra pillow to prevent fluid from pooling around your eyes, which can lead to puffiness and crepiness. Upgrade your pillow case If you are one for sleeping with your face in the pillow, you might want to consider switching up your cotton pillowcase to a silk or satin alternative instead.Silk has natural moisturising properties to retain moisture around the eyes. The dense weave of the silky-smooth fibres also keep moisture close to your skin, this extra moisture can help to reduce dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles.Just remember, Rome wasn’t built in day, and your under-eye skin won’t transform overnight either sadly (if only!) Be patient and be religious with these steps and you’ll be waking up to smoother, brighter and younger looking eyes soon!
makeup for mature skin

Makeup for the over 40’s: How to prep skin for a flawless finish

by Jo Boyden on Jun 15 2023
As we age, our once smooth and plump skin starts to dramatically change, we experience loss of elasticity, increased dryness, fine lines and wrinkles and age spots. Some of us even become more prone to blemishes and breakouts (eek!) But this doesn’t mean we can’t rock a stunning makeup look like we once did! It just means we need to change tactics. Preparing mature skin for makeup requires a somewhat different approach to ensure we can still achieve that much desired flawless and radiance look! Read on as we talk skin prep for the over 40’s, including tips and techniques to help keep makeup looking natural and fresh all day long! Start skin prep with a thorough cleanse Before you begin your makeup routine, it’s crucial that skin is cleansed thoroughly. You want to make sure any impurities, excess oil or residual makeup even, has been removed so that your makeup adheres to your skin better, and lasts longer! Look for a hydrating cleanser specifically designed to target ageing skin, or a gentle creamy cleanser if your skin tends to be on the more sensitive side.We highly recommend Pevonia’s Hydrating CleanserN.B remember regular exfoliation is also important as it can help promote cell turnover and improve the texture of mature skin. Exfoliate once or twice weekly with a gentle exfoliating cleanser. If you have sensitive skin and wish to steer clear of physical exfoliators (exfoliators with the “bits” in them) try a chemical of enzyme exfoliator. We can’t get enough of Phytomer’s Vegetal Exfoliant with Natural Enzymes Hydration, Hydration, Hydration If we are talking makeup application for the over 50’s (over 40’s even) the most imperative step in prepping skin, is to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! For that flawless makeup finish we all want to achieve, you need to create the perfect canvas, and you can’t do that if your skin is patchy and parched (which sadly is a thing as we age). Invest in a high-quality serum and moisturiser that will nourish and plumps the skin. Look for products containing hyaluronic acid, ceramides and antioxidants to boost hydration and combat signs of ageing. Using a gemstone facial roller be extremely beneficial too.Additionally, consider using a hydrating facial mist rich in hyaluronic acid to boost hydration levels throughout the day.We love Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist Don’t forget your sunscreen Next. it’s time for the sunscreen. No matter what your age, sunscreen is a non-negotiable! You can spend all the money in the world on skincare, but if you don’t use it in conjunction with sunscreen you may as well be pouring it down the drain!A great option for sunscreen for mature skin is ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day protection SPF 50. Primer is a must A primer can work wonders for mature skin by filling in fine lines and wrinkles, blurring imperfections, and ensuring longer-lasting makeup. In fact I’d safely save it will become your secret weapon when it comes to prepping mature skin for makeup. Look for a silicone-based primer that offers a smoothing effect without clogging pores. Apply it evenly to your face after moisturizing, focusing on areas prone to fine lines, such as around the eyes and mouth. We LOVE ELES’s range of face primers. For mature skin we highly recommend ELES Retexture Crème Face Primer Choose the Right Foundation Choosing the right foundation for mature skin can make a world of difference. You might well be a fan of matte foundations, but generally heavy matte formulas can settle into creases, accentuating dry patches and fine lines! As we age it’s better to opt for lightweight, hydrating foundations with a dewy or satin finish. Additionally, consider using a colour-correcting foundation to counteract any redness or discoloration like ELES Luminous CC Cream 20 (which has the added bonus of sunscreen! What’s more! For the month of June, when you purchase an ELES Luminous CC Cream 20 or best-selling Age-Defying BB Cream 30 you’ll receive a FREE Sheet Mask. Plus you get to choose from one of three sheet masks specifically designed to counteract ageing – Youth Recovery, Calming and Soothing or Hydrating and Brightening. Concealing and Highlighting A good concealer will be your best friend when it comes to camouflaging dark circles, ages spots or any areas of your face that needs that little bit of extra coverage. To address these issues, choose a creamy, hydrating concealer and make sure it matches your skin tone. Apply it sparingly with a small brush or your fingertips, gently blending it into the skin. Make sure you avoid any excessive tugging or pulling, as it can exacerbate the appearance of wrinkles.Try ELES Dual Action Concealer, you won’t be disappointed!N.B For a youthful, lifted effect, apply a light-reflecting concealer or highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes, brow bone, and cheekbones. Set Makeup with a Finishing Powder To prolong the longevity of your makeup without sacrificing the dewy finish, lightly dust a translucent powder only on areas prone to excess oil, such as the T-zone. Avoid applying it to drier areas, as it can accentuate fine lines. Use a fluffy brush for a light application, ensuring your skin retains its natural radiance.Try ELES NEW Translucent Powder Always add colour for that youthful healthy glow Another sign of ageing is a dull and uneven complexion! Cue the magic of a good blush and/or bronzer. Simple apply a subtle blush shade to the apples of your cheeks for that youthful flushed affect and lightly dust bronzer along your cheekbones and temples to add warmth and dimension.Choose shades that complement your skin tone and always remember less is more! Create mature eyes that pop For your eyes, keep it simple and elegant. Use neutral eyeshadows that enhance your natural beauty. Avoid heavy or overly shimmery shadows, as they can emphasize creases. A soft, smudged eyeliner and a few coats of mascara will define your eyes without overpowering them. Also line the inner rim of your lower lash line or waterline as it’s otherwise known with a white pencil a waterline liner! (We recommend ELES’s Waterline liner). By doing so it’ll immediately open up your eyes as well as make the whites of your eyes look whiter (synonymous with younger looking eyes!)For more on ageing eyes and the best tips and tricks to care for them click here. Complete the look with luscious lips As we age our lips loose their colour and get thinner and dryer too! so you’ll want to be armed with a good hydrating and volumizing lip product like ELES Velvet Satin Lipstick.Choose colours that flatter your complexion and make you feel happy and confident.Remember, the key to flawless makeup is not only the products you use but also the techniques you employ. Be gentle with your skin, blend your products seamlessly and never overdo your makeup.
collagen skincare routine

This is why you should use collagen in your skincare routine

by Jo Boyden on May 05 2023
Collagen - we know it’s an essential skincare ingredient and we’ve been told we should incorporate it into our daily skincare routine, but why? Especially when our bodies naturally produce this power protein! In fact 60% of our skin is essentially collagen! The thing is when we’re young, our skin has plentiful amounts of collagen! However as we age our body’s ability to produce it decreases which is not great news as collagen plays a critical role in maintaining healthy skin, hair, nails and joints! It’s an elixir of youth so to speak! But when it starts to diminish, so does our skin and body’s youthfulness too! Cue wrinkles and sagging skin – eek.So, instead of watching your skin head south, it’s important to replenish the collagen we’ve lost, with collagen skincare! Keep reading as we count down the many benefits of adding collagen infused skincare into your everyday beauty routine. Helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles Collagen infused skincare products can help to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Improves skin hydration One of our skin’s main functions is to serve as a barrier between our bodies and the environment. Collagen has the ability to attract and retain moisture in the skin, which can help to improve skin hydration and keep it looking nourished, plump and youthful. Enhances skin elasticity Collagen-infused skincare products can help to improve skin elasticity, by increasing skin’s durability, making it more resilient to damage and less prone to sagging and stretching. Think stronger and firmer skin! Brightens the complexion Collagen can help to promote the growth of new skin cells, leading to a brighter and more even complexion. Reduces hyperpigmentation Collagen can help to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots, leaving the skin looking more even-toned and radiant. Protects against environmental damage Collagen-infused skincare products can help to protect the skin against environmental damage caused by factors such as UV rays and pollution, which can contribute to premature aging. Improves skin texture Just like wrinkles, rough skin can be attributed to damage to the underlying collagen. Collagen peptides can help our body repair and rebuild damaged collagen, leading to a smooth collagen structure that improves the texture of our skin. Fights acne scars What’s worse than dealing with acne, is having scars that are left behind. Acne scars are actually caused by collagen damage in your skin! Supplementing with collagen skincare can speed up collagen formation in the skin, therefore accelerating tissue repair that will heal your acne scars. Now we know the benefits, what are the best collagen products to use?Whole collagen is difficult for the body to digest or absorb, however collagen peptides are significantly more accessible for the body. Collagen peptides, specifically, are made by breaking down collagen into very small pieces. Research has shown that our bodies can absorb collagen peptides of a particularly small size without breaking them down further, and directly use these peptides to build new collagen. Pretty clever hey?Pevonia offer a range of collagen infused skincare formulated with collagen peptides. Including the Power Repair Age Correction Hydrating Cleanser, Hydrating Toner, Collagen and Myoxy Caviar Concentrate and Collagen Cream, each product in the collection works together to replenish the skin with lost of collagen, which effectively combating signs of ageing! The Pevonia Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream is in fact Pevonia’s global best-selling cream and for very good reason. But don’t just take our word for it. See what our customers have said too!“This is best way for younger looking skin. I have sensitive skin so this product is great for it. It is a light cream that does not feel greasy and it makes my skin feel silky smooth.” Sarah S“I absolutely LOVE this serum. It's a staple in my routine. I will not use anything else.” Lene Simpson “I am on my 5th jar of this Marine Collagen Cream. I adore this cream. No 1 for moisture and yet so light on the skin. Helps with my fine lines as well.” Lourrain ParkWhat’s more, for the month of May, 2023 when you purchase the Pevonia Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream, you’ll actually get both the Hydrating Lotion and Toner 50m for FREE! So get shopping and reap in the benefits of collagen.

Mature skin? The best way to cover under eye dark circles

by Jo Boyden on Dec 09 2022
Eyes looking tired? Dark circles more apparent? Unfortunately as we age so do our eyes! In fact our eyes experience ageing before any other part of our face, so dark under-eye circles, puffy peepers and fine lines and wrinkles are a given. All is not lost though! By arming yourself with a few key products, familiarising yourself with a couple of simple makeup tricks, and following our step-by-step guide, you can both improve and cover under-eye dark circles and other signs of eye ageing, even for those of us with mature skin! Firstly why do we get dark under-eye circles as we age? As we get older, our skin becomes thinner. This is the result of a decrease in fat and collagen production (which maintains our skin’s elasticity) As this occurs, the dark blood vessels beneath our skin become more visible, causing the area below our eyes to darken. Dark under eye circles can also be the cause of lack of sleep (which unfortunately increases with age too!) as well as poor blood circulation and insufficient toxin drainage! What is the best way to improve and cover dark under-eye circles? Start by giving yourself a mini facial massage with a gemstone roller By doing so you’ll help improve circulation, remove toxins from the eye area significantly improving dark circles and bags under the eyes, reduce inflammation, refresh the skin and tone your face! In fact gemstone rollers offer a multitude of other benefits too to your skin too. Click here to find out more. Invest in a good eye cream or gel or both! For mornings when your eyes are feeling particularly puffy, reaching for a cooling eye gel will do wonders for reviving this delectate area while reducing puffiness. We love Pevonia’s C Evolutive Eye Gel, it’s a personal favourite of mine and highly recommended by the BC Pros. It’s a wonderful, cooling gel, formulated with anti-ageing dynamo Vitamin C, skin saviours’ hyaluronic acid and Ginkgo biloba, as well as green coffee and it’ll have your peepers decongested and depuffed in one swift application! Also use a tapping motion with your finger which you apply it. This can help get rid of any fluid that’s accumulated under the delicate eye area.  If it’s dark circles you appear to be constantly suffering from, we highly recommend Vie Collection’s Chrono Eyes Puffiness-Dark Circles Wrinkle Cream. It’s a mouthful to say, but a product that does exactly what it says! It’s a beautifully fine cream enriched with moisturising ingredients to nourish the eye area while reversing puffiness, dark circles, and wrinkles! Oh and it instantly brightens the eye area too! Use a primer under your eyes before applying makeup As you age your skin becomes more prone to fine lines around your eyes. You want to conceal them but it’s best to do so by using a primer first. This will help fill in any lines and make the skin appear smoother (essential if you want to prevent makeup falling into the creases and exacerbating signs of eye ageing!) Use your ring finger and gently dab your primer over the wrinkles to the sides of your eyes and spread. Invest in a good concealer When it comes to camouflaging dark under eye circles, a concealer is by far your best bet. A good undereye concealer can give you complete coverage as well as make you look bright-eyed in seconds! Choose a shade lighter than your natural skin tone (as this will help brighten the area) but also opt for a “peachy” tone as this will counteract the blueish tinge of the shadows. Try ELES Dual Action Concealer. my secret weapon for concealing my dark under eye circles and helping me look like I’ve had 8 hours of blissful slumber as opposed to only 5! It’s formulated with a myriad of anti-ageing wonder ingredients including Hyaluronic acid, Caffeine, Vitamins C & E, Collagen and more! And it actually helps to gradually improve skin’s texture while concealing those obvious under eye dark circles. Its moisturising formula provides continuous hydration as well as a natural longwearing finish meaning it lasts for hours without seeping into fine lines and wrinkles! It’s seriously good stuff. Simply apply with a small concealer brush and then finish with a powder to set the concealer so it doesn’t crease. For the most brightening effect, apply your concealer in a “V” or upside-down triangle shape beneath your eye. Swipe it directly under the eye, but bring it down to a point on your cheek beside your nostril and fill in the entire area. Don’t forget to add a little illuminator and waterline liner to your eyes too!  Adding a little white eyeshadow (or pencil or illuminator) to the inner corner of your eyes, as well as waterline pencil to the waterline of your eyes, you’ll attract attention away from ageing eyes and create the illusion of younger, brighter, more wide awake eyes with one little dot of the finger!
super ingredients

7 super ingredients in your skincare that are all the rage

by Jo Boyden on Dec 01 2022
In the pursuit of youthful skin, so many of us will buy into the ‘latest’ and ‘greatest’ skincare products and trends, especially when they promise to make you look 10 years younger! But with trends forever evolving and the multitude of skincare products out there, how are you supposed to differentiate between what actually works and what’ll likely be a passing fad? When it comes to the search for skincare, and we’re talking skincare products that will really have a significant impact on your skin, a good way to start is by looking for specific skincare ingredients. For instance, if you are looking to brighten dull, sun damaged skin, skincare products formulated with Vitamin C should be your go-to. Worried about visible signs of ageing? It’s time to introduce retinol products into your daily skincare routine. But Retinol and Vitamin C aren’t the only super skincare ingredients to look out for. There are in fact a total of 7 game-changing skincare ingredients that are all the rage right now and recommended by every beauty expert the world over! You’ve likely heard of them all before, in fact the majority have been around for many a year and are now perceived as cult favourites, but do you really know what it is they do? Read on to learn all there is to know about the beauty industries leading skincare ingredients and why they should become a constant in your skin’s daily life too!   Retinol Hailed as the Holy Grail of the skincare world, retinol counteracts ageing like no other! A derivative of Vitamin A, this ‘superhero’ ingredient offers a multitude of benefits; From reducing the appearance of fine lines and preventing wrinkles, to correcting hyperpigmentation, reducing large pores and clearing acne, retinol also has the ability to speed cell turnover making cells function like that of a child! Crazy right? Perfect for those with sun damaged, dull and discoloured skin, those suffering from large pores and adult acne, or simply because ageing is a concern, we couldn’t recommend retinol more. But be sure to understand how and when to use it first. Try Pevonia’s Micro-Retinol Moisturiser, and find out for yourself what all the fuss is about. “This is the most beautiful cream I have ever used; light texture, non-greasy, non-shiny. Changes in my skin include smoothing of lines and crepe-skin areas, softening, hydrating and contouring, and reduced pigmentation. Some results were instantly visible and now after three weeks my skin just keeps improving. Now it appears luminous and more refined. It’s a surprise to see a brighter smoother complexion at my age, I am 60!” Annie Hyaluronic Acid Probably the most famous skincare ingredient of them all, and renowned as every beauty expert’s ‘must-have’, hyaluronic acid has the ability to instantly deliver supple, dewy skin. It binds moisture to skin cells to keep skin smooth, firm, plump, and undeniably radiant and thanks to its sponge-like effect, every molecule can hold 1,000 times its weight in water so when topically applied it’s like a burst of intense hydration to the skin. But this skincare ingredient doesn’t stop there, not only does it benefit those with dry, dehydrated skin, it’s also a must for anyone with signs of premature ageing. So be sure you include this in your daily routine if you suffer from a dry, devitalised complexion or if you are simply in need of gentle anti-aging skincare. We are hands down in awe of Pevonia’s new Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum, featuring one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the skincare market! “I have just started using this serum and the results are already noticeable. My skin is so much more youthful! Smoother, plumper and visibly radiant! I couldn’t recommend more highly!!” Mary C   Glycolic Acid If your skin is looking a tad dull and devitalised and you’re forever coveting that ‘insta-glow’, Glycolic Acid is your answer. This super acid is a type of natural exfoliant derived from sugar cane, which dissolves the ‘glue’ that holds dead skins cells together. As dead skin cells shed, the new smoother, brighter and younger looking skin underneath is revealed. Made up of small molecules, it is also has the ability to penetrate deep within the skin, making it super effective for treating, blackheads, blemishes, oiliness, uneven texture, dullness and even fine lines! So if you have normal, combination and oily skin that’s looking far from radiant, Glycolic acid will be your saving grace. Try Pevonia’s Renewing Glycocides Cream, we promise you won’t regret it! “WOW, talk about overnight results! Minimizes my pores, smooths out my skin, and reduces redness. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to do all those things, but it’s been 2 months now since i’ve been using it every night and i LOVE this cream!” Sally O Vitamin C The best of the best when it comes to topical anti-oxidants, Vitamin C has been around for donkey’s years and for very good reason! Recommended by every beauty expert, this notorious glow-getter not only brightens skin, lessening hyperpigmentation, it also increases collagen production (which diminishes with age) and protects skin against pollution and sun damage by effectively neutralising free radicals (which can wreak havoc by harming healthy skin cells as well as promoting premature ageing – we are talking fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and more…) If you suffer from hyperpigmentation or dark spots or skin is lacking life and needs some serious brightening, vitamin c should be your go-to. We can’t recommend enough the Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe, it’s a firm favourite of ours! “This is a beautiful serum. You only require two pumps and the coverage is excellent. Radiant looking skin instantaneously. Definitely worth the investment.” Deborah W Collagen Peptides Collagen is technically a protein which naturally occurs in our bodies giving our skin strength and elasticity, as well as working to replace dead skin cells. However as we age our natural collagen levels begin to decline and the more collagen we lose, the more fine lines and wrinkles appear. Scary hey? This is where topical skincare solutions are an absolute must. By applying skincare formulated with collagen peptides, you can stimulate the synthesis of new collagen production and minimise the appearance of ageing. Sound good? To keep skin soft, supple and free of fine lines we are forever in love with Pevonia’s no. 1 global best-seller, the Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream. “I absolutely love this cream. It is a day cream and night cream and it helps with my puffiness, lines, blemishes, skin tone, you name it! Totally amazing.” Anna H Caviar Similar to retinol, caviar is a multi-tasking wonder ingredient! It works to enhance skin renewal and regeneration, it boosts collagen production and prevents the breakdown of elastin (which both diminish with age), it helps protect skin against UV rays, locks in moisture to keep skin deeply nourished and plumped and it brightens skin and reduces inflammation at the same time too! In fact caviar is suitable for all skin types even ultra-sensitive and easily irritated skin because it is rich in omega-3, and ceramides - anti-inflammatories that play a great part in reducing redness while soothing troubled skin! So if you want to bring back vitality and life to ageing, tired, and depleted skin this should be a must-have ingredient in your skincare arsenal. Try: Pevonia Myoxy Caviar Timeless Repair Cream. Drenched with potent actives to effectively counteract aging, this luxurious silky textured and easily absorbed cream provides outstanding rejuvenating results, smoothing wrinkles while increasing suppleness and oxygenation. “The very best anti-aging cream I have ever used...and I've tried them all!!! The cream is so rich that just a little goes a very long way in making your skin smooth with diminished lines and a the bonus of a fresh glow!” Sarah D Niacinamide Niacinamide or otherwise known as Vitamin B3, is the new kid on the block that everyone is raving about. This gentle ingredient when used topically can improve skin hydration by preventing evaporation of moisture from the skin. It's also a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient, so it's great for calming irritated and sensitive skin. What’s more it has the ability to improve skin tone and effectively fade dark spots, it can calm angry acne and it fights off harmful stressors such as UV rays, pollution, stress, lack of sleep, and other factors can all create free radicals that damage healthy skin cells. Oh and Niacinamide also improves the regulation of excess oil production, which can help minimise congestion and breakouts! What more could you ask? Try: Vie Collection Vita B3 Concentrated Solution. This light, melting textured serum is like a shot for the skin that will visibly improve skin’s radiance in next to no time! We are talking brighter, happier, healthier skin! Plus with continued use this product will significantly decrease pigmentation while reinforcing the protective functions of the skin barrier for the optimal skin health. “I love this serum! It’s become a staple in my skincare routine. It has slowly and gently removed ALL the sunspots I had on my face from never using sunscreen in my younger years. My skin is also now so much more radiant after introducing it! I’m one very happy customer.” Lorna M
best eyeshadow tips for ageing eyes

The best eyeshadow tips for ageing eyes

by Jo Boyden on Nov 17 2022
If you’re worried about ageing eyes you might well have stopped wearing eyeshadow in fear it will only exacerbate your fine lines and wrinkles. The thing is eyeshadow and all eye makeup for that matter serves a very important purpose no matter what your age! It can add depth and dimension to your eyes making them appear larger, it can complement your eye colour or simply draw attention to the eyes! And most importantly it will bring back life to your ageing eye area! Genius! So instead of forgoing eyeshadow, you just need to alter how, and which type you use! To get the lowdown, we talked to the experts at BC! Keep scrolling as we countdown 10 of the best eyeshadow tips for mature women. Start with a good eye cream It’s likely you’re doing this already, but if not, you’ll want (and need) the delicate skin around your eyes to be properly nourished! And we are talking both the eyelid and the undereye area! For a great eye cream for ageing eyes try Pevonia’s Age Correction Eye Contour. It’s formulated with Marine Collagen, Marine Elastin and Green Team which not only provide eyes with powerful anti-ageing benefits, it smooths, first and deeply nourishing the fragile eye zone too. Use a primer As our skin ages, under-eye wrinkles and crows feet become more apparent – they are a fact of life for us all! A good primer however will help reduce their appearance while increasing the longevity of your eyeshadow! It’ll also prep your eyelids preventing eye makeup from creasing, feathering, smudging or smearing! Apply a good under-eye concealer This will make eyes appear bigger and brighter in prep for your eyeshadow. Concealer isn't just for brightening up your under eyes though. Prepping the eye with a concealer that's about two shades lighter than your actual shade will make your eyeshadow more pigmented and in turn pop a lot more. You’ll need to use one with has a hydrating formula as this will add additional nourishment to the eye area as well as prevent the concealer from settling into fine lines and wrinkles.Try ELES Cosmetics Dual Action Concealer. Use a waterproof or long-lasting gel eyeliner You don’t want to get to lunch time and find yourself with panda eyes! No sireee. By using a waterproof or long-lasting gel eyeliner, it’ll stay in place all day plus give eyes much needed depth and definition. Try ELES Cosmetics Superwear Gel Liner. Line your eyes with a waterline liner Eyes tend to look duller and tired with age. A waterline liner will open up your eyes instantly creating the illusion of bigger, brighter, more youthful looking eyes.Simply apply your normal eyeliner to your top lash line then apply your waterline liner to the inner rim of your lower lash line. (We recommend ELES Cosmetics Waterline Liner). By doing so it’ll immediately open up your eyes as well as make the whites of your eyes look whiter. It works a treat I can vouch for that! Opt for matte eyeshadow and go mineral Eye shadow comes in many different colours and textures but for ageing eyes matte eyeshadows are the way to go. Those with mature eyes might find matte eyeshadow more longwearing and less likely to fade on their skin. Your best bet is to stock up on mineral matte eyeshadows that are pigmented without emphasizing fine lines but also packed with antioxidant vitamins A, C & E to pamper lids with crease-proof perfection. Try ELES Cosmetics Mineral Matte Shadows. Better still try the ELES Build your own Shadow Palette, you get to select which ever 3 shades of mineral shadow shades you want! A trio of colours on your eyes is always better than one, they will make your eyes stand out more and can also increase their size and let’s face it bigger eyes are more youthful! Choose lighter eyeshadow shades Opt for a lighter, natural eyeshadow shades rather than dark, smoky shades on your eyelids and around the eyes. Using neutral colours like shades of light browns, light pinks, beiges, or greys are best. Also add a light colour eyeshadow shade to the inner corner, lower lash line in outer corner, and the inner lid. Apply eye shadow correctly Don’t take your base eyeshadow shade and simply plonk it on the centre of your lid. Using a small eyeshadow brush, start from the outer corner of the eyes and work inwards, so that the colour gets gradually lighter. This will help give your eyes a bigger, wide-eyed look. Finish with mascara No matter your age, mascara will always be a go-to product. A good mascara (we are talking smudge-proof, waterproof, and long-lasting) adds volume and strengthens brittle lashes to keep them looking full and luscious. Fuller-looking lashes can also help to give a more youthful appearance to the eye area. However, it’s best not to wear mascara on the lower lashes as this can make your eyes look droopy as well as draw attention to dark circles and under eye wrinkles. Use a setting spray or powder Finally, to prevent eyeshadow fallout (after all we want it to stay in place all day or night long!) use a setting spray or if setting sprays aren't your thing, opt for a setting powder instead! Both work to lock your makeup in place. Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist.

Worried about wrinkles? Who isn’t? In fact, wrinkles are a major concern for both men and women, so much so that wrinkle injections are a fast-growing market, accounting for almost 40% of cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the world, and 70% of aesthetic medicine interventions. But what if Botox and the likes aren’t for you? Are there safer, natural and needle-free alternatives that really work to diminish the appearance of wrinkles?Keep reading as we reveal Beauty Collectives’ best performing wrinkles creams, three anti-ageing creams that we promise will have your skin looking younger in next to no time.Firstly, while there is no serum or wrinkle cream that can magically make wrinkles disappear in a week quite like Botox, thanks to the advancement in both technology and skincare ingredients, the natural alternatives can seriously achieve similar smoothing and plumping results. What’s more these non-invasive topical alternatives give you more control over the change in your appearance (no poker-face in sight!), provide a much more natural look, plus when used daily as part of your skincare routine will achieve outstanding on-going results; Vie Collection Time Control Deep Wrinkles Firming Rich Cream Created in conjunction with a respected Cosmetic Surgeon to not only enhance the results of interventions such as BotoxTM and Fillers but also as an alternative for those who would prefer not to have cosmetic medical procedures. This creamy textured wrinkle cream is highly concentrated with advanced anti-ageing and nourishing ingredients including pro-collagen peptides, EGF-like peptides, trace elements and minerals to effectively help to enhance skin elasticity, reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles and soothe the discomfort that thin and mature skin types can experience. You’ll notice immediate results as skin feels and appears smoother, softer and more supple and after continued use wrinkles are visibly filled and skin is noticeably firmer. Outstanding! “I have been using this firming cream for a month now and I can honestly say it has reduced the appearance of even my deepest wrinkles! I was even asked if I’d had botox the other day! Winning!” – Anne K Pevonia MyOxy Caviar Timeless Repair Cream This really is the ultimate youth cream. It’s like having several anti-ageing creams in one – a retinol cream, a vitamin e cream, a vitamin c cream, a caviar cream, a neuropeptide (capable of mimicking the effects of Botox) cream. Formulated with up to 19 vitamins! It contains iron, magnesium, escutox, retinol, caviar, pearl and phosphorus too, all needed by cells to utilise oxygen more effectively and to improve cellular metabolism. Silky textured and easily absorbed, it provides outstanding rejuvenating results, smoothing wrinkles while increasing suppleness and oxygenation “The repair cream is wonderful. It smells good, feels good and works in erasing fine lines. Wrinkles disappear almost immediately.” Mauve Medicalia Retinol & “C” Care Cream Retinol has long been worshipped by beauty professionals as the hero ingredient in the fight against wrinkles! Some even say nothing fights the signs of ageing better! Designed to stimulate your skin’s own production of hyaluronic acid and collagen which depletes with age, as well as improve its overall texture, Medicalia’s Retinol & “C” Care Cream delivers potent retinol deep within the skin to enhance cellular performance. Micro Retinol micro particles, combined with anti-agers Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid and Elastin peptides tighten, revitalise, resurface and rehydrate skin! Wrinkles are dramatically reduced with continued use. “This is the best product for aging skin I have ever found.” Heather
