Beautiful, youthful skin fast? Try this skincare collection NOW

by Jo Boyden on Aug 11 2020
I’m sure we’ve all heard of “stem cells” right? The so called “special” cells in our body which unlike blood, muscle or nerve cells have the ability to self-renew and repair. Clever right? But did you know these cells are now being used in the form of creams, serums and even cleansers? Thanks to their ability to fight wrinkles and improve skin turnover and appearance! But if the idea of slathering some other person’s stem cells all over your face in the name of beauty, creeps you out, we get it. That’s why the clever folk at Pevonia introduced an alternative into their skincare, the next best thing - plant stem cells. Praised for their skin-regenerating abilities, they work similarly to human stem cells and may offer amazing benefits for your skin too! Both plant and human stem cells contain proteins and amino acids that signal the body’s cells to rejuvenate. In addition, they contain peptides, which are skincare powerhouse ingredients for collagen formation. They are the building blocks for cell rejuvenation and have antioxidant properties that nourish skin cells thereby promoting cell turnover. In fact plant stem cells actually have stronger antioxidant properties than human cells! This can result in fewer lines and wrinkles, improved skin texture and tone, and younger, better-looking skin! Now, who doesn’t want that!Cue Pevonia’s Stem Cells Phyto Elite Line, hailed for its ability to stimulate the reversal of the ageing cycle of the skin, the line, powered by two ground-breaking plant cell sources – the reparative Moroccan Argan Tree and European Comfrey Root – works deep within the skin to radically reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles while firming and deeply hydrating the skin at a rapid rate!Whether you are looking to introduce a new anti-ageing cleanser, serum or moisturiser into your daily routine, this line has it all! What’s better in the month of August if you purchase a Stem Cells Moisturiser or Stem Cells Serum you’ll receive the full size cleanser for FREE.But before you see for yourself what all the stem cells hype is really about, read on to see what some of our customers have to say first;“This is a top of the line serum. I love Pevonia Botanica's products and this one is no exception. It leaves the skin rejuvenated and looking more youthful. I use this along with their Cleanser and Intensive Cream. It's an excellent regimen if you're looking for the best.” Amber L Excellent Product. The serum goes on light and spreads easily with a few wisps of my fingertips. It works wonderfully with the stem cell moisturiser. This line of Pevonia products is my favourite one as a long time Pevonia user. Diana R Excellent product! I love it, have used the serum, cream and cleanser for some time and it has made a wonderful improvement to my skin. Jacqueline C “I love this cleanser! It has a wonderful luxurious foaming consistency and smells divine. My skin feels nourished and luminous after use, not dry like some cleansers, and i have been using it in conjunction with the serum and moisturiser for a few months now and can definitely seem fantastic results! Skin is more supple, fine lines have lessened. I'm hooked!” Joanna B “I have never really had a skin care routine that I stuck to until now. Cleansers felt squeaky and made my skin feel drier, and moisturisers just felt like they sat on the surface of my skin and didn’t give any moisture to my aging skin. Now I can’t wait to get home each night and use my Stem Cell Foaming Cleanser and then the most hydrating and moisturising Stem Cell Intensive Cream to feel fresh, clean and youthful. I have finally found a brand that lives up to its marketing and promotional statements, thank you Pevonia”. Jennifer.

by Jo Boyden on May 29 2020
In the pursuit of perfect skin so many of us will buy into the ‘latest’ and apparently ‘greatest’ skincare trends, the new and improved ingredients that promise to deliver eternal youth. But with trends forever evolving how are we supposed to differentiate between what actually works and what’ll likely be a passing fad? Thankfully beauty experts stand united when it comes to the top 5 powerhouse ingredients, the true skincare classics that have stood the test of time. You’ll likely be familiar with each and every one of these ingredients, but do you really know what it is they do?Read on to learn all there is to know about the skincare industries ‘top dogs’ and why they should become a constant in your skin’s daily life! RETINOL Hailed as the Holy Grail of the skincare world, retinol counteracts ageing like no other!A derivative of Vitamin A, this ‘superhero’ ingredient offers a multitude of benefits; From reducing the appearance of fine lines and preventing wrinkles, to correcting hyperpigmentation, reducing large pores and clearing acne, retinol also has the ability to speed cell turnover making cells function like that of a child! Crazy right?Perfect for those with sun damaged, dull and discoloured skin, those suffering from large pores and adult acne, or simply because ageing is a concern, we couldn’t recommend this ingredient more. But be sure to understand how and when to use it first.Try Pevonia’s Micro-Retinol Moisturiser, and find out for yourself what all the fuss is about!“This is the most beautiful cream I have ever used; light texture, non-greasy, non-shiny. Changes in my skin include smoothing of lines and crepe-skin areas, softening, hydrating and contouring, and reduced pigmentation. Some results were instantly visible and now after three weeks my skin just keeps improving. Now it appears luminous and more refined. It’s a surprise to see a brighter smoother complexion at my age, I am 60!” Annie HYALURONIC ACID Probably the most famous skincare ingredient of them all, and renowned as every beauty expert’s ‘must-have’, hyaluronic acid has the ability to instantly deliver supple, dewy skin. It binds moisture to skin cells to keep skin smooth, firm, plump, and undeniably radiant and thanks to its sponge-like effect, every molecule can hold 1,000 times its weight in water so when topically applied it’s like a burst of intense hydration to the skin. But this skincare-wonder doesn’t stop there, not only does it benefit those with dry, dehydrated skin, it’s also a must for anyone with signs of premature ageing. So be sure you include this in your daily routine if you suffer from a dry, devitalised complexion or if you are simply in need of gentle anti-aging skincare. We are hands down in awe of Pevonia’s new Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum, featuring one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the skincare market!“I have just started using this serum and the results are already noticeable. My skin is so much more youthful! Smoother, plumper and visibly radiant! I couldn’t recommend more highly!!” Mary C GLYCOLIC ACID If your skin is looking a tad dull and devitalised and you’re forever coveting that ‘insta-glow’ Glycolic Acid is your answer. This super acid is a type of natural exfoliant derived from sugar cane, which dissolves the ‘glue’ that holds dead skins cells together. As dead skin cells shed, the new smoother, brighter and younger looking skin underneath is revealed.Made up of small molecules, it is also has the ability to penetrate deep within the skin, making it super effective for treating, blackheads, blemishes, oiliness, uneven texture, dullness and even fine lines! So if you have normal, combination and oily skin that’s looking far from radiant, Glycolic acid will be your saving grace. Try Pevonia’s Renewing Glycocides Cream, we promise you won’t regret it!“WOW, talk about overnight results! Minimizes my pores, smooths out my skin, and reduces redness. I’m not sure if it's supposed to do all those things, but it's been 2 months now since i've been using it every night and i LOVE this cream!” Sally O VITAMIN C The best of the best when it comes to topical anti-oxidants, Vitamin C has been around for donkey’s years and for very good reason! Recommended by every beauty expert, this notorious glow-getter not only brightens skin, lessening hyperpigmentation, it also increases collagen production (which diminishes with age) and protects skin against pollution and sun damage by effectively neutralising free radicals (which can wreak havoc by harming healthy skin cells as well as promoting premature ageing – we are talking fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and more...)If you suffer from hyperpigmentation or dark spots or skin is lacking life and needs some serious brightening, vitamin c should be your go-to. We can’t recommend enough the Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe, it’s a firm favourite of ours!“This is a beautiful serum. You only require two pumps and the coverage is excellent. Radiant looking skin instantaneously. Definitely worth the investment.” Deborah W COLLAGEN PEPTIDES Collagen is technically a protein which naturally occurs in our bodies giving our skin strength and elasticity, as well as working to replace dead skin cells. However as we age our natural collagen levels begin to decline and the more collagen we lose, the more fine lines and wrinkles appear. Scary hey? This is where topical skincare solutions are an absolute must. By applying skincare formulated with collagen peptides, you can stimulate the synthesis of new collagen production and minimise the appearance of ageing. Sound good? To keep skin soft, supple and free of fine lines we are forever in love with Pevonia’s no. 1 global best-seller, the Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream.“I absolutely love this cream. It is a day cream and a night cream and it helps with my puffiness, lines, blemishes, skin tone, you name it! Totally amazing ❤” Anna H

Why this miracle serum is worth the splurge

by Jo Boyden on May 21 2020
It’s one of the most talked about skincare ingredients around the globe, it’s the most recognised for intense hydration and when it comes to achieving supple, dewy skin it seriously delivers. I’m talking about every beauty professional’s anti-ageing hero; Hyaluronic Acid, and now it’s available in one of the highest concentrations on the beauty market thanks to the launch of Pevonia’s new Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum! We understand the cost of having great skin, believe me! But no matter how much you covet a product there is always that niggling feeling is it really worth the price tag? Well in this case yes siree, the Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum really is!Firstly, serums are worth investing in as they tend to perform above and beyond many regular skincare products, this is because they are developed with a higher concentration of targeted active ingredients, and you get better penetration of those ingredients too.Secondly the purpose of a serum is to target a specific concern. Created to address the most common skincare concerns – both ageing and dehydration, Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum delivers multiple benefits to the skin, so read on to discover what they are, why this serum is worth the spurge and what exactly Hyaluronic Acid is!What is Hyaluronic Acid? When it comes to getting dewy, hydrated skin, few ingredients deliver the way hyaluronic acid does. Naturally occurring in our body, it holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water which means it attracts and holds on to moisture in skin cells, enabling skin to both feel and look hydrated and plump. However, our skin’s level of hyaluronic acid decreases with age, so if you want to ramp up hydration levels to maintain youthful skin, incorporating it into your skincare regime is a must! Why Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum? This powerhouse product combats a multitude of skin concerns in one fell swoop including; It hydrates skin like no other The ultimate for seriously thirsty skin, this serum eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dehydrated of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. It plumps & firms By adding moisture back into our skin, this serum immediately boosts skin’s suppleness. It also combats ageing in multiple ways thanks to its skin-plumping properties. Collagen and Hibiscus Esculentus help to plump and smooth wrinkles, while preventing the formation of future fine lines. It’s multi-tasking Aside from deeply hydrating and plumping skin, this serum delivers short-term perks too! Thanks to its combination of skin loving ingredients as well as its ability to penetrate deep within the skin’s layers, it also counteracts dullness delivering a serious dewy glow. In short after using this serum you should see smoother, less lined, more moisturised skin almost instantly! Your skin will feel plumper and softer too. With everyday use, fine lines and wrinkles will become less apparent, skin will maintain a soft, supple feel, as well as be much less prone to dryness and dehydration. Used as part of your daily skincare routine in combination with daily sun protection, this serum will naturally restore your skin’s ability to look younger! Now who doesn’t want a bit of that in their lives right?[embed]https://youtu.be/75DF4VUtcjo[/embed]

Spending more time on multiple devices? The Best Eye creams for screen-tired eyes

by Jo Boyden on May 15 2020
Staring at a screen more than ever since #lockdown? Eyes looking tired? And dark circles more apparent? Increased time in front of your laptop and on your phone can reap havoc with your precious peepers, but why exactly is this and what can you do to help prevent it? Why does screen time impact our eyes? More time in front of multiple screens means an increase in our exposure to harmful high-energy blue light waves. Blue light, if you aren’t aware, is a colour in the “visible light” spectrum” that can be seen by, and therefore have an adverse effect on, our eyes. Spending just two consecutive hours on a digital device can cause eyestrain or fatigue while overexposure to this blue light also suppresses the release of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep, therefore disrupting our normal sleep pattern. And we all know poor sleep can lead to premature ageing, especially around the delicate eye area! What can you do to prevent it? There are multiple ways you can aid your eyes including, avoiding screen time an hour before bed, eating a well-rounded diet rich in anti-oxidant and fatty-acid foods and purchasing blue light filters, but if you really want to show them the love, introduce an eye cream into your beauty routine both morning and night. Eye creams are different to your daily moisturisers and serums as they are formulated with specific active ingredients to nurture and repair the fragile area around the eyes – the thinnest layer of skin on our entire bodies and up to 1/10 thinner than the rest of the skin on our face! Their main objective is to target specific eye concerns – crow’s feet, under eye bags and dark circles, delivering brightening and anti-ageing ingredients in a mild, gentle and safe dose. Here are 4 favourite eye creams to tackle your eye fatigue that are definitely worthy of your investment; Vie Collection Chrono Eyes Puffiness – Dark Circles Wrinkle Cream Enriched with the best nourishing ingredients including; encapsulated high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, Botox-like peptides, fatty acids, vitamin c and vitamin B3, this silky cream is inspired by eye-rejuvenating Botox and hyaluronic acid injections to effectively fight signs of ageing and fatigue. Suitable for everyone even those with sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. “This is a wonderful eye cream, it gives immediate gratification thanks to a pearlescent finish that instantly brightens the eye area and it has definitely calmed my puffiness, lightened by dark circles and even smoothed my wrinkles! It’s truly a fabulous eye cream that is well worth the price tag”. Lisa M Phytomer Pionniere XMF Reset Eye Fluid Formulated with 2 specific biotechnological breakthrough ingredients, marine sugar Oligofurcellaran and blue micro alga, this light and fine eye fluid promises to restore youthful eye radiance in just seven days! From the first week dark circles and puffiness are less visible, eyelids are lifted and wrinkles start to fade. “Since using this product I have definitely seen results! It's been about a month now and I can honestly say I've noticed that the fine lines around my eyes have faded and my dark circles are so much less obvious. Amazing stuff!” Joanne W Phytomer Expertise Age Contour Youth Eye Cream This high performance cream formula corrects crow’s feet while firming up the eye’s contours. Anti-ageing ingredients including fatty acids and moisturising shea butter effectively smooth out wrinkles and brighten eyes while dark circles are lightened and puffiness reduced. Skin appears rejuvenated and younger with every use. “This eye cream seems to do it all; takes care of dryness, puffiness, and lines. My eyes seem to "pop" more than they were before using it. At 52 my eyes want to withdraw, but this cream brings them back out and you have to love that.” Vicky D Pevonia Evolutive Eye Cream This anti-ageing eye cream deeply nourishes and renews the delicate under eye area in multiple ways. Formulated with a powerful blend of anti-agers including hyaluronic acid, vitamin A and glycolic acid, it firms, smooths and hydrates dry, crepey skin. “This is the best eye cream I ever used. I absolutely love the texture, not too light but not heavy either. Keeps my eye contour hydrated all day and I actually stopped using a concealer around my eyes as I simply don't need it anymore! I started to have really deep wrinkles around my eyes-tried so many different creams-but the wrinkles just kept getting deeper and I always had a dry looking eye contour at the end of the day. Well after using this cream for let’s say a week I saw a huge improvement in my eye contour! Highly recommend this cream!” Demi

Retinol – your guide to THE BEST anti-ageing ingredient

by Jo Boyden on Mar 10 2020
From reducing the appearance of fine lines to preventing wrinkles, correcting hyperpigmentation to unclogging pores and clearing acne, Retinol is THE Holy Grail of the skincare world and therefore the ingredient we should all be incorporating into our skincare routine! Yes, even those with sensitive skin!Few, however, understand this powerhouse ingredient and many have their concerns, after all, retinol is very active so if used incorrectly can be known to cause the skin to react! So it is essential to understand how and when to use it.If previous experience has left your skin looking red and dry or you haven’t tried retinol before because you’ve been too scared, Beauty Collective has a trusted solution that we promise will work for you. But before unveiling our top 4 retinol products, here are a few necessary tips you should abide by; Introduce the product slowly – apply it only at night, one or two times a week for the first week and gradually increase application. Retinols are best applied at night, particularly because it makes your skin more photosensitive. Ensure you wear sunscreen during the day when using retinol (you should be wearing sunscreen everyday whatever the reason though!) Allow the product to fully absorb into the skin (this could take up to 30 minutes) before layering any other products. Just make sure to use any acne-fighting products (i.e. anything that includes benzoyl peroxides or salicylic acid) on the nights you don’t use your retinol product. Give the product time to work its magic. This could take a few months but the results WILL be worth it. We promise! Prepare for the inevitable adjustment period your skin will go through before you see the results you want. Because retinol causes the skin to shed cells faster than normal, you’ll likely experience a few weeks of change to your skin including some flakiness and dryness. Retinol is NOT recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. To get started, depending on your skin type, here are our recommendations; If you are susceptible to oily or blemished skin and want to reap in the multiple benefits of retinol while keeping acne at bay, we highly recommend Vie Collection’s Retinopur Intensive Retinol Mask. Formulated with retinol and other targeted ingredients including Kaolin – a white clay which not only helps draw out impurities as well as absorb excess oils, it adapts to all kinds of skin even the most sensitive and reactive. Within a month you’ll notice a visibly clearer and mattified complexion, pores will be tightened, skin texture refined and smoother! Taking advantage of the powerful benefits of Micro- Retinol®, Glycolic, and Lactic Acid, Medicalia’s L Retinol Smoothing Cream is a must for those with photo-damaged skin. This resurfacing and lightening cream provides a stabilized, deeply absorbing Retinol for optimized regeneration and resurfacing while lightening and reducing accumulated keratin for smoother and brighter skin. For those with advanced signs of aging - wrinkles, loose and sagging skin, and uneven skin tone or dark spots, Pevonia’s Micro-Retinol Essential Moisturiser is your go-to! This powerhouse product (and range!) is the perfect all-rounder! Formulated with Retinol, Hyaluronic, Squalane, and Marine Collagen, it deeply hydrates, smooths, brightens and firms! Best results when used in conjunction with Pevonia’s Micro-Retinol Essential Serum. If your skin is prone to sensitivity and irritation but you really want to give retinol a try, you need to pick your product with care. Vie Collection - Retinopur Wrinkles Imperfections Fluid will be a great solution for you! While retinol is the main ingredient, it is encapsulated therefore limits tolerance risks and boosts the effectiveness of the retinol which is released gradually. Just remember to introduce it very slowly, 2 nights the first week, 3 nights the second week and so on.What to learn more about retinol and what it is? Check out our blog.

Why you should use a face mask - unmasking the benefits

by Jo Boyden on Feb 17 2020
You think you have your beauty routine down pat, but do you really go the extra mile for your skin?We all understand the benefits of a good cleanser, moisturiser, serum even, but using a face mask can do wonders for your complexion too. There is however no one size fits all face mask, just like your moisturiser and serum, a mask will assist with a specific concern, so it’s important to first understand what face masks do and then decipher which is the best type for your complexion. What exactly do face masks do?Face masks can offer many physical and therapeutic benefits, from hydrating your complexion to improving the appearance of pores, to creating an overall sense of wellbeing and relaxation, but first and foremost masks provide cleansing on a deep deep level benefiting your skin in multiple ways. Don’t get me wrong your daily cleansing is imperative to your skincare routine, but applying a mask once or twice a week takes this process to a whole new level by removing any remaining makeup, excess oil, dead skin cells and other impurities on the skin’s surface as well as beneath the upper layers of the epidermis.By removing the dirt and bacteria from deep inside your skin, face masks will refine pores, they can also help to stimulate blood circulation causing the blood vessels to expand. The result is softer skin with greater elasticity and a glow that’s instantly noticeable. Yes, please!Which is the best type for my complexion? The numerous options of masks give you the freedom and advantage to choose one that perfectly fits your skin type and its unique needs. From clay masks for oily skin to collagen-based ones for ageing skin, there is mask for everyone, however, choosing one can be a little overwhelming so we’ve narrowed it down for you by categorising our favourites into 6 main skincare concerns; Dull, devitalised skin > you need a brightening mask While clay masks are known to absorb excess oils (so great for those with oily skin!) they also help to remove the build-up of dead skin cells that cause the skin to look lifeless and lackluster. The Phytomer Citylife Radiance Reviving Mask combines 100% natural red and white clays with the best in marine ingredients to instantly unclog pores and counter the effects of pollution, including signs of fatigue, dark spots, and dullness. After application, the skin is immediately improved, less tired, visibly tightened and radiance is renewed. Wrinkles and ageing skin > you need a de-aging mask With the changes our skin undergoes as we age, it’s important to step up the ante and incorporate a mask that will properly care for your skin as it matures. The Pevonia Ageless Skin Collagen Mask delivers de-aging and plumping collagen polypeptides that penetrate deeply and repair signs of aging, diminishing visible lines, and wrinkles; while rejuvenating the overall complexion. Dehydrated skin > you need a hydrating mask Fine lines, wrinkles, and irritation can all be the contributors of dehydrated skin, and sometimes, you need something a little bit more potent than a daily moisturiser. Phytomer’s Hydrasea Thirst-Relief Rehydrating Mask feeds the skin with ultimate nourishment, you can literally feel your complexion tighten and plump in nearly and instant and the end result is youthfully restored skin. Oily skin with enlarged pores > you need a refining mask If your skin is on the oily spectrum and you are over your large pores, Pevonia’s Age Correction Micro-Pores Bio-Active Mask should be your go-to. The exceptional mask has been uniquely formulated to control sebum production and help reveal a matte complexion with a more even-toned, visibly minimized pores and younger-looking skin. Sensitive Skin > You need a soothing mask To keep sensitive skin smooth, soothed and redness free, an anti-inflammatory, a cream mask is a must. Phytomer’s Accept Desensitizing Mask boosts the skins defence system to reduce inflammation and redness. Hypoallergenic, it smooths on skin to calm, heal, soften and hydrate the complexion. Skin is left feeling moisturised, balanced and oh so comfortable. Acne-Prone Skin > you need a detoxifying and decongesting mask An intensive mask treatment can be the first step to making acne less visible and easier to fight. Face Fixers - Non-invasive Botox and filler alternatives

by Jo Boyden on Dec 05 2019
We’ve all heard of Botox and dermal fillers, let’s face it (pardon the pun!) with the ever-increasing gen-Z idolisation of the likes of the Jenner-Kardashian clan or the millions of social media ‘influencers’ all with their perfectly plumped lips and ‘smooth as a babies bottom’ skin, these procedures have today become commonplace. 10 makeup mistakes you could well be making

by Jo Boyden on Jul 18 2019
We are forever on the quest to achieving that perfect makeup look and hey experimenting on the way can be fun, but with the many tips and techniques being sold to us on the daily it’s hard to know if you’re acing your makeup or simply making mistakes. Well, we are here to help! Below are 10 of the most common makeup mistakes being made every day and how to well simply get it right! Pulling the area around your eye to make the perfect wing Yes yes, even I used to do this and then I learnt how BAD it was for my eyes, think skin ageing and fine lines due to the breakdown of elasticity! And let’s not forget you can easily end up with a horribly uneven line. And so now this; I use a post-it note! Yes, you heard that right, however you could, in theory, use any piece of folded paper, card or similar to achieve the same effect. Now no more cotton buds and re-application, I nail the perfect winged eye every single day (love me a winged eye!) Applying your lippie to dry lips This is a definite no no, as your lipstick won’t apply evenly, it’ll seep into your lip lines making your lips appear VERY dry and in some cases, they’ll even look a little on the crusty side, attractive right?! Instead, be sure to ‘prep’ your lips. Some people love to apply a little foundation to the lips as they believe it helps hold the lipstick in place for longer (much like the effect of a lip primer) but I personally think this dries out your lips even more! Instead, use a chapstick or lip balm and let it soak in. After a few minutes blot any excess and apply your favourite lipstick colour. See how it glides on effortlessly and evenly, will last longer and there won’t be a crusty lip in sight! Testing foundation shades on the back of your hand Yes, many do this but are they walking away with the correct shade for their complexion? The back of your hands tends to be darker than the skin on your face so it’s best to trial a few shades on both your jawline and neck. Just remember though your face tends to get much more sun exposure than your neck so you really want to find a foundation shade that matches both areas when blended into the skin. Applying your makeup with the wrong tools The key to natural-looking makeup lies in mastering the art of blending. Makeup that isn’t blended well can look heavy and imperfect. Get yourself armed with a few good brushes and a BeautyBlender, these tools will stand you in good stead and the beauty blender will enable you to reach every contour of your face. It is meant to be used damp, allowing for a flawless application and ensuring that makeup never looks heavy! Applying the wrong shade of eyeliner to your lower lash line Let’s face it black is the most popular eyeliner shade on the market but is it a one size fits all? No! If like me, you have a light complexion and blonde hair it’s actually advisable to use a brown liner, at least on the bottom lash line. Black can end up looking quite harsh and instead of opening up your eyes (after all who doesn’t want large doll-like eyes!) it can make them look smaller. It’s also a great idea to follow with a nude pencil or what’s known as a Waterline Liner. This will help open up your eyes and make them look wider! Incorrect lip liner application We all want to achieve bigger, luscious lips, but the worst thing you can do is draw a sharp line around your lips with lip liner to outline them. A lip liner is meant to define your lips, not just create a border around them! Instead, simply draw a soft outline and then use the lip liner to blend and fill in your lips, this will also act as an adhesive to help your lipstick stay in place for longer! Overloading on foundation powder Face powder, when used correctly and frugally can be a fantastic makeup staple (I have been I’m in love with the ELES Mineral Powder Foundation for years!) however, no matter your skin type, too much face powder can actually age you! That’s right, it can highlight fine lines and wrinkles instead of helping to conceal them! It’s best to use it sparingly – on your t-zone, or for quick touch-up’s, just make sure you opt for a lightweight powder! Sporting statement lips and dramatic eyeshadow together Who doesn’t love a beautiful bold lip? But if you are sporting dramatic eyes keep your lips nude or neutral to balance things out. And if you’re feeling the statement lips vibe, keep your eye makeup natural. Experimenting with makeup colours can be so much fun but remember the “less is more” rule to avoid looking overdone! Applying your blush incorrectly A blush applied correctly will help elongate your face, give you high cheekbones and make your face appear slimmer. However, apply it incorrectly and you could either wind up looking like a clown or someone suffering from rosacea. To nail it, using an angled blush brush, lightly apply a complementary shade of blush to the apples of your cheeks then sweep upwards towards your temples and ears. Forgetting a vital step – prepping your skin If you haven’t prepped your skin with your faithful moisturiser before applying your foundation, chances are your skin will look and feel dry. Plus makeup tends to stick to dry areas on the skin making it appear patchy. It’ll even seep into fine lines and wrinkles accentuating them! For best results apply your moisturiser, wait five minutes for it so properly absorb and then move onto your foundation.
Beauty Collective - Big Guns Anti-ageing

“Big Guns” skin care products

by Jo Boyden on Jun 03 2019
Just a few miles from the gorgeous Manly Beach in Sydney, our Beauty Collective Head Office is full of high-tech dermaceutical solutions, from powerful medical-based skin care to advanced cellulite products. And something you may not realise is that we are not just a retail supplier, we are one of Australia’s leading salon and spa suppliers and educators in the beauty industry. So what do our team use on their skin and why are some products the universal favourites with us and our clients? We share our “big guns” in the battle against skin ageing…Medicalia L-Retinol Smoothing CreamFormulated with Micro-Retinol® which works so much better than regular retinol, this fast-acting cream gives you astonishing visible results. It makes pores almost invisible, softens lines and wrinkles and fades hyperpigmentation. It uses Biomimetic technology, which is a fancy way of saying that it goes through a process that makes the formula almost identical to the oils and moisture produced by your skin, so it literally melts into the skin. Not a product to use year round as it has an exfoliating action and over-use can cause irritation, but perfect as a Winter treatment. Just use a small quantity each night (or alternate nights if you find it too stimulating) and enjoy smoother skin for months after.Phytomer Pioneer XMF CreamThere truly is no other cream on the market like this! It has won numerous International awards and is Phytomer’s No 1 seller. Often hailed as the professional version of Crème De La Mer. On the surface of the skin, it creates a biofilm for an instant smoothing effect and within the skin, it binds to the fibres in the dermis to densify them. Imagine your face is a cushion and this cream is the extra stuffing! We also are in love with the light silky texture of the cream, neither too rich or too light and the heavenly, soft aroma.Phytomer Celluli AttackHead and shoulders above the rest, this IS the best cellulite product on the market today. Most cellulite products use Green Coffee Extract to stimulate lipolysis (breakdown of fats), this formula uses Pepper Slimactiv which is 8 times stronger. And how is this for technology? Pepper Slimactiv is incorporated in a vectorized capsule that propels at high speed to the fat cells, avoiding any loss of ingredient on the way and is also combined with a signal peptide that enables it to exclusively target adipocytes and attack them with more power. Take that Cellulite! All you need to do is smooth it over cellulite areas, no need for massaging and within a month you begin to see results. We should probably point out that Phytomer has been the undisputable leader of cellulite treatment products in Europe since 1994!Vie Collection Chrono EyesNot sure about you but at Beauty Collective, we believe products should be multi-functional. So when we use an eye cream not only should it help prevent skin ageing it should also smooth fine lines, reduce dark circles and deal with unwanted eye puffiness. When this product came onto the market we switched over to it with no loyalty at all to our previously adored eye products. With a botox-like peptide to inhibit muscle action, low and high molecule hyaluronic which acts like a filler and vitamin C, B3 and Phytosterols to stimulate the circulation to deal with puffiness and dark circles can you really blame us? Now the top seller in the Vie Collection line here in Oz we feel sure we are not biased.Medicalia - Sunscreen SPF 30Last but certainly not least the biggest seller in our skin care arsenal is the Medicala Sunscreen. The MOST important anti-ageing product we should all be using is a broad spectrum (protects against both UVA and UVB rays) sunblock. We have discovered the only reason some don’t use sunblock despite knowing how important it is, is because they can’t stand the texture or smell. No more excuses, this feels like a lightweight moisturiser and smells divine. It won’t make your eyes water or cause itchiness and it’s loaded with anti-ageing goodies. Finally, it comes in a generous 150ml bottle! Very slightly tinted (though most of the tint disappears once it’s absorbed) it leaves your skin looking smoother and calmer. What’s not to love?
beauty Collective - four ways to slow down facial ageing

Four ways to slow down facial ageing

by Jo Boyden on May 23 2019
I know, there are probably more than a million ways to slow down facial ageing! But even after more than 20 years in the beauty industry and believing I’d heard it all before, it was these four things I learnt at the school of hard knocks. The first is one may have more impact than you realised…GLASSESYes you read right, my advice is to invest in great glasses—both sun and vision.Sunglasses — Look for those with more opaque lenses and both UVA and UVB protection. They’ll keep you from squinting, which will help you avoid wrinkles, but they will also protect the delicate skin around your eyes from sun-induced discoloration better known as Melasma or Hyper-Pigmentation. I discovered this when I treated myself to a big pair of Jackie O glasses. After four weeks my hyperpigmentation began to fade! Remember, the bigger the frame, the better. And when it comes to vision, it might interest you to know that as it deteriorates, other muscles in your eye area, particularly those beneath the crow’s feet, pitch in to help you focus which makes lines around the eyes a lot worse. I avoided upgrading my glasses for far too long (let’s face it, it’s a huge hassle) when I finally did, not only did the world become a lot clearer but the constant squinting and watery eyes that lead to deep lines and lots of headaches began to soften and disappear.TOO MUCH SUGAR AND NOT ENOUGH OMEGA 3Don’t just think about your waistline when you’re tempted by processed treats, think about your skin too.You know that refined carbohydrates and added sugars are at the top of every nutritionist's don’t-eat list, but dermatologists avoid them too. They lead to wrinkles through a process called glycation—eating refined carbs and sugars creates a quick spike in blood sugar, and when those sugar molecules link up with the collagen in your body (which normally gives skin its elasticity), it leads to stiffness in your skin.Eat more of these instead: Healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, and colourful fruits and vegetables. The fats can also help lower inflammation, which calms redness-inducing issues like acne and rosacea but also dramatically reduces your chances of inflamm-ageing. Not sure what Inflamm-ageing is? Read more hereUSE RETINOLIt really is a game changer and it is the one thing all dermatologists, plastic surgeons and cosmetic surgeons agree you should do to prevent premature skin ageing (other than wear sunscreen). The list of their anti-ageing benefits is huge but to name a few: Retinol increases collagen production, helps make your pores appear smaller and boosts cell turnover to even out discoloration and brighten your skin tone. As far as I know it’s the only ingredient that is such a great anti-ageing multi-tasker.Our favourites are the Medicalia Retinol and C Care Cream and Retinol Concentrate. This is a medical skin care line recommended by Doctors worldwide and head and shoulders above some of the low % cosmeceutical lines on the market.Just remember these important tips: Give it a chance, you won’t see the benefits in a week or even a month, it takes about 3 months to see the true benefits of retinol and when you do it will have been worth your persistence. If you have sensitive skin, wean yourself onto the products, start with a small amount every other night or even twice a week before building up to every night. Apply before bed; never in the morning. Retinol makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight and more likely to burn, yes always, and don’t listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. Less is more. You only need a pea-sized amount for your whole face. Keep them outside the bony ring around your eyes. The skin inside is delicate and if the retinol irritates your eyes you’ll rub them and that can lead to under-eye bags. Take my word for it! SUNSCREEN BLIND SPOTSThere are two overlooked places that often miss the sunscreen and that is the décolletage and hands. The two places that are first to show signs of ageing. Hands can develop sunspots and wrinkles and they are so hard to treat once established. It is particularly important to apply sunscreen to the backs of your hands while you’re driving, because car windshields and mirrors don’t block UVA rays. For your chest, sunscreen should extend all the way down to your bra line and don’t forget the sides of the neck. Our “go to” sunscreen is the Medicalia - Sunscreen SPF 30. It’s both a physical and chemical block so the texture and feel is more like a gorgeous moisturiser, and the subtle tint makes your skin look airbrushed and even.Obviously a good diet and exercise, plenty of sleep and water will have the greatest impact on how you age, and of course genetics, but these are four easy fixes that make a huge impact so worth a share in my book!
Beauty Collective - moisturiser eye cream

Q&A – Can I use my moisturiser as an eye cream?

by Jo Boyden on May 14 2019
You’ve been told to invest in an eye cream but you aren’t sure why you should fork out the extra dollars, after all do you really need to use a separate cream for your eyes? Will your moisturiser not suffice? You could indeed use your moisturiser as an eye cream but it’s definitely not advised and we are here to explain why.In short, eye treatments whether it be creams, gels or serums are specifically formulated to target and care for the delicate area around the eyes, the thinnest layer of skin on our entire bodies! In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage.Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia.Eye treatments also tend to be targeted to specific eye concerns – crow’s feet, under eye bags, dark circles instead of the huge array of facials concerns a moisturiser is targeted too, so it actually saves time and money in the long run! Also some ingredients that often appear in eye treatments, not so much face moisturisers (for example Ginkgo Biloba, caffeine…) can offer quick and temporary fixes to problems specific to just the eye area. The bottom line is that eye creams are essentially facial moisturisers that are modified for use on the more delicate skin around the eyes and let’s not forget this skin ages faster than the rest of your face so there is no time like the present to start looking after it correctly!
BeautyCollective - Screen Time

How screen time is affecting our skin and how to counteract it

by Jo Boyden on Apr 10 2019
We all know about ‘light rays’ such as UVA and UVB and how damaging they can be, but very few are aware of another harmful ‘light’ taking centre stage! A light that is not only emitted from sunlight but scarily also from all our devices - now labelled the silent anti-agers of our generation! This light is known as ‘blue light’.Research has shown that blue light can damage our skin, accelerate the visible signs of ageing and even cause dark under eye circles. Eek! And with the amount of time we spend on our phones, computers, tablets…we really should be doing something about it and we are here to tell you what! How exactly does blue light affect our skin?We are all guilty of staring, bleary-eyed at our screens (hell I’m doing it now as I type!), having that last minute flick through facebook or late night scroll on instagram, in fact with the amount of time we spend on our devices, we are now getting significantly more blue light exposure than we get from the sun alone! Blue light also has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin compared with both UVA and UVB light - it can penetrate all the way to our dermis where our collagen and elastin live! Terrifying! Not only does that extra 10 minutes watching our favourite Netflix show eat into our precious zen time, it can also disrupt our natural circadian rhythm (our handy internal body clock which tells us when it’s time to be sleepy as well as time to wake up!) Our circadian rhythm is actually very important when it comes to many aspects of our well-being, ranging from metabolism to immune system function to most importantly good quality sleep!Sleeping is our body’s time to recharge as well as repair skin cells, however this blue light is known to be impacting the natural repair process overnight leading to an accumulation of skin damage – premature ageing, discolouration, inflammation, weakening of the skin’s surface, as well as dark under eye circles. How can we prevent blue light from damaging our skin? While we aren’t likely to give up our evening Netflix binge, switch off our mobile phones or give Facebook the heave-ho, we can do many a thing to reduce our exposure and in turn the effect of blue light on our skin; Switch your mobile to ‘night shift’ mode every evening Avoid devices as much as possible an hour before bedtime (read a good old fashioned book instead!) Instead of holding your mobile to your ear opt for hands-free every time. Purchase blue light filters for your devices Make sure you have a well-rounded diet with plenty of anti-oxidant and fatty-acid rich food to reduce or protect against inflammation. Try using makeup containing iron oxide, this can help neutralize and repair blue light damage Use targeted skincare products religiously. Antioxidant-rich creams and serums are really important to battle off cell-disrupting free radicals and inflammation generated by light pollution. We are obsessed with Phytomer’s Souffle Marine Energizing Oxygenating Serum – specifically formulated to protect against environmental pollution and free radical damage Scared? You should be! No, on a serious note, first port of call, if you're not using targeted products to protect yourself you need to start, ASAP.

The effects of stress on your skin and how to reduce them

by Jo Boyden on Mar 26 2019
Stress happens to all of us, fact, but what we often don’t realise is the effect it can have on not only our mood but our skin too!Daily stressors such as insufficient sleep, an unhealthy lifestyle, a demanding job…can unfortunately manifest as blemishes, wrinkles, and skin inflammation.Below are 5 ways stress can affect our appearance but also 5 ways to reduce it! Phew I hear you say…. Under-eye bags Who hasn’t been blessed with those delightful under-eye bags many a morning!? We all know how important beauty sleep is but sadly late/sleepless nights due to work commitments or stress can lead to dark circles and under-eye bags when we awaken.Prevent dark, puffy peepers Say no to that extra glass of vino, or another catch up episode of MAFS and get yourself to bed stat! Giving yourself as much shut-eye as possible will only stand you in good stead. Forget climbing into bed and reaching for your phone! (Guilty as charged!) Instead, opt for a book or simply unwind and relax in preparation for peaceful slumber (think meditation, soft music, dim lights) Try elevating your head (so no tummy sleeping with your face on the bed unsupported by a pillow please!) this will reduce fluid naturally draining to the skin under your eyes. Finally arm yourself with a good eye cream and concealer. Our current favourites are Vie Collection Chrono Eyes Puffiness – Dark Circles Wrinkle Cream and ELES Dual Action Concealer Premature ageing When you’re stressed your body releases cortisol (the stress hormone). Sadly it’s infamous for breaking down collagen, the protein which keeps your complexion supple and firm! If like me, you’ll also be guilty of frowning, which unfortunately can lead to deeper, permanent wrinkles in these areas over time. Eek.Minimise lines and wrinkles Use anti-ageing products specifically targeted at your problem area. Products rich in Retinol and Vitamin C will help boost collagen production. We are in LOVE with Vie Collection's Retinopur Wrinkles Imperfections Fluid Eat a healthy balanced diet rich in superfoods as these really do assist in counteracting premature ageing. Think green veggies which help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and oily fish which induces telomere growth. Oh and regular exercise increases levels of endorphins which effectively fight the effects of cortisol (the darn stress hormone we mentioned earlier!) Dry skin As well as breaking down collagen, Cortisol also decreases the skin’s natural production of hyaluronic acid, a natural moisturiser we all need, so skin becomes dry and damaged.Maintain hydrated skin Firstly (yes we’ve all heard this before!) drink plenty of water, every single day! The more you drink, the more hydrated your skin will look and feel! Set this as your daily mantra. Secondly, ensure your skin care routine includes product rich in hyaluronic acid to deeply nourish the layers of your skin. We are currently lusting after the Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin Mask Also using gentle products rich in antioxidants and soothing ingredients can support the skin during stressful times. Breakouts Dealing with a sudden breakout? You’ve awoken to a chin full of pesky pimples? Chances are your body is producing the dreaded cortisol at a mighty rate which in turn tells your sebaceous glands to produce more pore-clogging oil! Stress can also cause an imbalance of good bacteria versus bad bacteria in your gut which can present itself in acne.Reduce spots and blemishes Exfoliate: This will unclog your pores, drawing out any oil or congesting reducing spots. It’ll also remove dead skin cells resulting in clearer skin while increasing blood circulation for a brighter, radiant complexion. But be careful not to over exfoliate! A couple of times a week it plenty otherwise you can risk stripping your skin of its natural healthy oils! We recommend Phytomer Marine Scrub Creamy Exfoliant. Moisturise: There is the misconception that moisturising oily skin will make spots worse but this is definitely not the case! By not moisturising daily, skin will become dry which in turn can stimulate excess oil production to compensate for the loss of moisture. Clever but not helpful! Conceal: If you want to cover blemishes try using a mineral concealer which is formulated with skin protecting ingredients that allow the skin to breathe freely. Eat a well-balanced diet. Fruits, vegetables, and high-quality proteins like grass-fed meats are also crucial (they keep a balance between the good and bad bacteria in your gut), as is cutting down on sugar. Rosacea & Eczema Whether you are prone to rosacea and/or eczema or not, stress can trigger skin irritation. When we are stressed our bodies release more neuropeptides and neurotransmitters than usual. This causes inflammation and dilates the blood vessels within our skin.Redness relief Invest in rosacea specific skincare products, formulated with skin nurturing and relieving ingredients which reduce flushing, erythrosis, couperose and rosacea while hydrating and soothing the skin. We highly recommend Vie Collection’s Rosa Control Relief Concentrate. And to conceal use a CC Cream which will mask the redness while calming the skin.

Beauty Collective - 5 beauty myths debunked

5 Skin Care Myths Debunked

by Jo Boyden on Feb 26 2019
It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed in the constant changing world of skincare, with new ranges hitting the market every day, telling us what is good and not good for our skin.Skin science has moved in leaps and bounds as new delivery systems and ways to modify ingredients can make it seem more like a Star Wars battle than the exciting world it really is. It’s like most things; sometimes a lot of choice is just too much!So we are here to bust just a few of the common myths of this mystifying topic!MYTH #1 – TREAT YOUR SKIN ACCORDING TO SKIN TYPE For years we’ve been conditioned to believe that skin is oily, dry or combination and most of us have used skin care products accordingly. However, your skin type is just a grain of sand on a beach when it comes to getting the most out of your skin care. It’s very important to address the health of the skin and not just the external factors such as “not enough moisture”. Sure we can the moisture however it’s going to be a short-term fix if we are not addressing the cause; i.e. dehydration of the body and compromised skin function. Maintaining a good diet, getting plenty of sleep, staying hydrated and looking after your health is an obvious fix, and when it comes to skin care, look for products that stimulate the bodies own healing processes i.e. stimulate collagen formation, sedate oil glands, repair cell mitochondria etc. Ingredients such as AHA’s, Retinol, Anti-Oxidants, Hyaluronic and Sunscreens should be on the top of your list.We recommend: Vie Collection - Retinopur Wrinkles Imperfections Fluid, it stimulates collagen and elastin and helps rejuvenate skin cells.MYTH #2 – I’LL USE ANTI-AGEING SKIN CARE WHEN I’M OLDERUnfortunately there is no wonder ingredient that completely repairs the passage of time; prevention is No.1 when it comes to youthful skin.Every day we are exposed to factors that damage our skin and cause skin ageing; the sun’s rays, pollution, stress, unhealthy lifestyles all work together like a super-villain team and attack our skin at a deep and cellular level. It may not show immediately but it’s happening.Keeping the skin deeply hydrated is important in our early years and ingredients such as Hyaluronic help our fibroblast cells (the ones that make collagen and elastin) to work more effectively and more collagen and elastin means less wrinkles and sagging. Also make sunscreen application part of your daily routine, everyday! Not only to reduce your chances of skin cancer but to reduce about 90% of visible skin ageing. We recommend: ELES - Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50, its super light and gives the skin a lovely pearlescent glow!MYTH #3 – THE ONLY WAY TO LOOK YOUTHFUL IS WITH BOTOX Not true! There are so many effective products and treatments that will help to plump and firm the skin without a needle. As we age the lower layers of our skin lose volume. By reducing cell build-up on the outer skin (this acts like a wall to great ingredients getting in where they are needed) and increasing the volume of the deeper layers of the skin on a daily basis with ingredients such as retinol, peptides and essential fatty acids you can enjoy bouncy, firm and radiant skin. You’ll also find many skin care products contain neuropeptides (Botox substitutes) that do a wonderful job relaxing and softening wrinkles. We recommend: Phytomer - Pionniere XMF Perfection Youth Cream, a firm favourite this exceptional cream adds density to the skin giving it volume and bounce.MYTH #4 – WE ALL NEED TO PEEL AND EXFOLIATE DAILYThis will look amazing for the first week or even month, however you’ll soon discover the damaging effects of over-exfoliating as you remove your protective acid mantle. This barrier protects the skin from moisture loss, from bacterial invasion and when it’s gone you’ll be left with dry, sensitive skin with breakouts.Exfoliation is an important part of any good skin care routine, however moderation and gentle when it comes to peels and scrubs is always best.We recommend: Phytomer - Vegetal Exfoliant with Natural Enzymes a gentle but effective exfoliant that leaves skin fresh and refined.MYTH #5 – DRY SKIN NEEDS RICHER MOISTURISERSQuite often a super-rich moisturiser can exacerbate the problem. The oils in rich creams can act like a glue to dead skin cells that prevent hydrating ingredients from penetrating the skin, so while it might feel soft and supple on the surface, deep down it’s drying out!Layering is your best defence against dry skin. Apply a hydrating serum that will sink into the lower layers and then seal it with a protective cream, something that contains shea butter or light oils is ideal. We recommend: Phytomer - Hydrasea Ultra-Moisturizing Polarized Water Serum, it drenches the skin with pure moisture leaving it dewy and supple.

Your skin through the ages: Understanding your skin and choosing the right products to prevent premature ageing

When it comes to ageing, nothing reflects it more than our skin. From the silky smoothness of a baby’s complexion to the lines and wrinkles of mature lady, here’s what to expect through the decades, and what you can do to help prolong your youth and prevent premature ageing!20’sOnce you reach your twenties it’s easy to fall under the false pretence that since your teens are behind you, so are those pesky pimples! Wrong! While your skin may have settled (as have those hormones) it’s still producing oil. Also news flash! Your body actually stops producing collagen once you hit 25! You know collagen, the protein which provides elasticity to the skin helping it to appear youthful, glowing and vibrant! So it’s important to exfoliate daily to continue daily collagen renewal. What you may need: Opt for natural extracts in light-textured, non-greasy formulations in order to keep pores clean and clear. Also, use a broad spectrum UVA & UVB daily sunscreen – just remember you're never too young to start wearing sunscreen!Try; Organic Essentials Line; Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser, Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 3030’sAgeing really begins at 30. Fine lines develop as collagen and elastin start to break down, and our delicate skin under the eyes begins to thin. Skin generally becomes drier, quicker. Broken veins may start to show up as tiny red dots, and towards the end of this decade, age spots and brown pigmentation marks, or 'sun spots', may appear. Under-eye puffiness may become a problem, taking longer to subside after you wake. What you may need: Effective youth-prolonging skincare to strengthen, smooth and rejuvenate. Hydrating Moisturisers formulated with marine collagen, Eye Creams & Gels.Try; Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream & Intensifier, Age Correction Eye Contour, “C” Evolutive Eye Gel. 40’sDeeper lines begin to etch around the mouth and eyes, furrows appear on the forehead and circles under the eyes may grow into pouches. Most women's skin becomes noticeably drier. In the run-up to the menopause, and during this phase, skin may also become more sensitive. What's more, skin loses its resilience due to a breakdown of elastin and collagen. What you may need: Your daily regime should embrace products that offer specific benefits to counteract skin problems such as: anti-aging, sensitivity, hyper-pigmentation, Eg. Soothing serums to protect capillaries, lip and eye care, deeply repairing and resurfacing products.Try; Micro-Retinol Line; Eye Renew Conceal & De-Age Treatment, Lip Renew Plump & De-Age Treatment, Propolis Concentrate 50’sBy now, skin starts to acquire true 'character' in the form of fine wrinkles, and the lines you develop in your 50’s and 60’s may deepen into folds. This is because, post-menopausal, there's much less oestrogen being produced and without oestrogen, skin becomes thinner and more fragile. It is also less able to retain moisture and the production of collagen and elastin slows down significantly. In your 50’s skin tone is also likely to become more uneven, with an increasing number of 'sun spots'.What you may need: Products that minimize the appearance of lines, contain phyto-estrogens and protect the skin from the sun or even fade sunspots.Try; Stem Cells Phyto-Elite Line, RS2 Line, Lip Renew Plump & De-Age Treatment, Lumafirm Eye Contour Lift & Glow, Renewing Glycocides Cream 60’sYour skin has a hard time retaining moisture and natural oil production slows down so skin is very dry. Cell turnover continues to slow - a process that started in your forties so skin is generally duller than before. Between the lack of oil, the loss of collagen and elastin, and the dryness, dark spots can really start to stand out. Areas of scaly roughness often seen on fair-skinned women that can be a precursor to skin cancer. What you may need: De-ageing products with wrinkle relaxers such as vegetal botox, exfoliating products with aha’s, products rich in collagen and elastin, sun protection and pigment fading productsTry; Myoxy-Caviar Timeless Repair Line, Renewing Glycocides Cream, Lumablanc Cream

6 Makeup Habits That Might Be Ageing You

by Jo Boyden on Aug 17 2017
Remember the days of youth when you could cover your blemishes, slap on some mascara and gloss, a little makeup and look “done”? Why on earth did so many of us waste that opportunity to embrace natural beauty? The irony is that many of us 40+’s now find ourselves using a lot less makeup believing everything should to be soft and muted. Mature women are featured in makeup videos and made up like soft focus grandmas! Enough!Makeup for the mature (I prefer to call it Youth Enhancing Makeup) is not about hiding behind multi layers of pastels, it’s about two things; defying gravity and redefining the features. And while makeup does not guarantee a more youthful appearance; some of the most common makeup mistakes can actually age you!Mistake No 1: OVERLY PAINTED BROWSYes, we need brows to look youthful; they frame the eyes and lift the face. Many of us tweezed our brows to thin lines in the 80’s only to find they never grew back. However, harsh, red toned brows (for some reason many brow pencils are red toned?) make us look hard and older. The goal is to create natural looking thicker brows like the ones we used to have. Opt for taupe colour brow products instead of warm browns; these will frame your eyes beautifully without taking over your face. Apply the brow product in soft stokes to create the illusion of natural hair.We recommend ELES Brow Blenders, the soft pencil is easily used to fill in the gaps and then simply brush through the brows to soften the effect.Mistake No 2: COOL SKIN BASEMany foundations and BB Creams come in warm and cool tones. Opt for warmer tones that help counteract complexion pinkness that comes with thinning of the skin and exposure of fine capillaries. Warmer tones also conceal shadows better which means you need less concealer. We recommend ELES BB Cream, it’s packed with nature’s anti-ageing actives and leaves the skin glowing.Mistake No 3: WRONG CONCEALER AND WRONG COLOURAs we mature and the face loses its youthful “plumpness” shadows appear; under the eyes, around the nose, at the corners of the mouth etc. It’s tempting to reach for a heavy duty, ultra-light shade concealer to hide these dark areas. The problem is that they just make the dark shadows look grey as opposed to concealing them. Opt instead for peachy toned, lightweight concealers that won’t cake on the skin and counteract the blue in the shadows. We recommend ELES Dual Action Concealer, this is like 8 hours sleep in a tube!Mistake No 4: EYE MAKEUP THAT MAKES THE EYES DROOPAs the upper lid of the eye is crepe paper thin it tends to droop as we age and the upper crease of the eye becomes obscured, therefore the eyeshadow on the upper eyelid also becomes obscured. If you are extremely skilled at applying makeup you can fake the crease with exacting eye shadow application. However many of us don’t have the time or inclination on a daily basis to fuss with this, so apply a dark fine line through the upper lashes and a softer brighter eyeliner beneath the lashes instead. This “lifts” the eyes making them appear younger, then simply apply a warm shade of brown on the eyelids with the eyes open to ensure you can actually see the shadow. This method is quick and easy! Finally apply two coats of mascara to the upper lashes only to help conceal the eyelid that has dropped. Remember; Darker on top, light below. Shimmer shades under the lower lashes brighten the eyes and give a more youthful look.We recommend ELES Superwear Gel Eyeliner, its soft and easy to blend out and once set won’t transfer to the lids.Mistake No 5: COOL BLUSHSimple, use warm coral and peachy shades, which always look more vibrant on the skin rather than cold pink/mauve shades. This will also make the iris of your eyes more vibrant! We recommend ELES Baked Blush in Bouquet, it’s natural and warm and suits almost everyone.Mistake No 6: COLD FROSTED LIPSTICKAs we lose volume in our lips fine lines not only appear around the lips but on the lips themselves. Frosted lip colours enhance these lines. Instead, opt for cream lipstick that makes the lips look fuller and smoother, many of these contain moisturising molecules that plump the lips and keep them hydrated longer. We recommend ELES Colour Balm in Nude, its super hydrating, lasts for hours and looks like perfectly coloured natural lips.Follow these steps and you’ll create a youthful, flattering makeup that re-defines the features which is always more effective than trying to hide flaws!See this example of makeup mistakes on the left and correct application on the right and you be the judge, which one looks better?

Is stress making us look older?

by Jo Boyden on Aug 16 2017
Without a doubt, and you probably don’t need a blog post to tell you this, stress is written all over our faces! You can see it in your skin tone, texture, elasticity and the absence of a youthful glow.It would be easy to say, “stress less” but we know that’s easier said than done! However, if we understand why stress affects our skin as well as change a few habits, we will be able to manage the stress and in turn look a whole lot younger!Dark CirclesWhen we are stressed our blood flow increases and the fragile capillaries beneath our eyes become engorged so dark circles become more obvious. Drinking more water can help, getting more sleep will certainly improve things, while gently massaging a good eye cream or gel to the delicate eye zone will to help increase blood flow. Apply a soothing eye gel around the eyes and slide your middle and ring finger around the orbital bone (slide outwards on the brow and inwards beneath the eye). We recommend Pevonia C Evolutive Eye Gel, the ginkgo biloba, this helps increase the circulation while soothing and hydrating the eye contour.Mini-menopauseWhen we are stressed our body creates cortisol, which can lead to a drop in Oestrogen, much like it does when we are in menopause. Less Oestrogen means less collagen and less moisture. Nourish your skin from within with hydrating food such as fish, nuts, avocado, sweet potato, olive oil and cucumbers to name a few. And “up the hydration” with products rich in collagen and hyaluronic acid. We recommend Pevonia Power Repair Line for bringing back the bounce and youthfulness of dehydrated skin.WrinklesAs our hydration levels decrease our collagen and elastin production decreases. The skin cells that form these vital proteins take a siesta and meanwhile our expressions seem to become indelibly etched into our faces. Maintaining hydration is key but to restore the damage already caused it might be time to get out the big guns and reboot the skin cells which have become lazy. We recommend Pevonia Micro-Retinol line to help rejuvenate the skin from within.Itching, flaking and hivesStress leads to inflammation which may lead to rashes, rosacea, eczema flare ups and changes in skin moisture. It’s vital to maintain your skin’s barrier function with filmogenic products that trap moisture and to reduce inflammation in the skin. Take cooler showers and baths, avoid synthetics in warm weather and apply soothing products such as Pevonia Propolis Concentrate and Reactive Cream which provide both anti-inflammatory properties as well as restoring your protective acid mantle.A Heavy JawGrinding teeth and clenching of the jaw are common symptoms of stress. Unfortunately, these habits can cause the jaw muscles to work overtime. This can result not only in damaged teeth, but also a heavier than usual jawline, as the muscles become larger with the grinding action. Be mindful of this habit by relaxing the jaw whenever you think of it, and massage the jawline every evening while cleansing your skin and applying your moisturiser. Take time out to completely relax with a warm bath, a short nap or just doing something that distracts you from over-thinking! Even though you might only be able to spare 10 minutes your body trains itself to be more relaxed over time and will thank you.Hair LossStress can cause sudden hair loss by literally flipping the switch on the hair follicle’s growth stage from an active to a resting phase. Once the follicle enters this resting phase prematurely, it stays there for about three months, after which time a large amount of hair will be shed. Avoid over-styling hair and using too many heat appliances. We recommend a weekly hair mask using the Micro-Emulsion Massage Oil Anti-Stress. This not only helps stimulate a healthy scalp, but leaves hair soft and conditioned too.Adult AcneAcne isn’t just for hormonal-crazed teenagers. Many adults can’t seem to outgrow it because of stress hormones. Cleanse your skin thoroughly every morning and evening and exfoliate every couple of days to keep skin clear and pure, we recommend Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser for mild breakouts or the Clarifyl Line for more serious adult acne. It purifies, calms inflammation and deals with pesky breakouts pronto.Clearly there is a connection between how we look and how we feel and think. The good news is that we can get to the root cause of our stress and manage it!
