If you haven’t tried retinol before, but this blog has convinced you, you should (you won’t look back I’m telling you!) you need to know how to introduce it into your skincare routine for the best results and without irritation! Because retinol is so potent it requires careful use, including moisturising and SPF! Here’s how to incorporate it into your routine:
Start by introducing it slowly. Use it 2-3 times a week maximum at first, then increase as your skin adjusts (Remember a little goes a long way, and using too much too soon can lead to irritation).
Start with a low concentration (0.25% – 0.5%) and work your way up. If you have sensitive skin, opt for micro-encapsulated or lower-strength retinol.
Apply at night! Retinol makes your skin more sensitive to the sun so it’s best not to apply in the morning.
Use a pea-sized amount to cover your face.
