Crow’s feet: How to improve its appearance

by Jo Boyden on Nov 03 2023
We’ve all heard of crow’s feet, many of us over the age of 40 have likely encountered them, but how do you reduce their appearance, or prevent them from forming in the first place? If you are on the lookout for natural ways to treat crow’s feet around your eyes, look no further! We've put together a list of top tips and natural remedies to help you treat your crow’s feet effectively, without the use of harsh products or invasive procedures (the idea of fillers terrifies me!) Keep reading as we reveal them all! Firstly what are crow’s feet? A common skincare concern, crow’s feet (otherwise known as expression lines) are fine lines and wrinkles that form on the outer corners of your eyes as you age. As the skin around our eyes is exceptionally delicate (and thin!) crow’s feet can start to form fairly early for some due to constant muscle use in this area, as well as a gradual reduction in skin's elasticity. What causes crow’s feet?Crow’s feet are caused by a combination of factors, including ageing (due to a decrease in skin's collagen and elastin production), sun exposure, and repetitive facial expressions. Diet and your genetics can also be contributing factors. How do you get rid of crow’s feet? While it’s impossible to stop your eyes from ageing, there are a number of natural ways to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and maintain a more youthful looking eye area. Here’s how; Hydration is key As we age the skin around our eyes becomes dryer, thinner and loses its elasticity which leads to fine lines and wrinkles! And unfortunately the dryer this delicate area, the more visible those unwanted wrinkles are!Keeping your delicate eye area well-hydrated can help plump up the skin and minimize the appearance of fine lines. Use a hydrating eye cream or serum specifically formulated to target fine lines and crow's feet.Try Pevonia Age Correction Eye Contour. This power repair eye contour gives tired, ageing eyes the burst of hydration they need! Deeply nourishing thanks to its combination of marine collagen and marine elastin hyaluronic acid, it targets signs of fatigue, visibly reducing puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles. What more could you want?“Reduces wrinkles and firms eyelids. It’s also cool and soothing to eye area. No oily film to interfere with applying eye makeup. Have seen reduction in fine lines in crow’s feet area.” Laura L Exfoliate Shedding dead skin and revealing a younger, healthier layer of skin beneath helps reduce the appearance of crow's feet, fine lines, and surface wrinkles. Stronger forms of AHAs may also help boost your skin's collagen production, thereby providing additional crow's feet treatment. Get enough sleep. When you don't get enough sleep, your skin can become dull and wrinkled and wrinkles around your eyes can become increasingly more obvious. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep minimum each night. Apply cucumbers over your eyes I’ve talked about this before and for good reason. Cucumber slices are known for their cooling and soothing properties. Place chilled cucumber slices over your eyes for 10-15 minutes to reduce puffiness and refresh the delicate skin around your eyes. Apply Green tea bags as an eye compress Green tea isn't just for drinking; it's also a potent antioxidant that can work wonders topically for your skin. Brew some green tea, let it cool, then soak a clean cloth in the tea and gently place it over your closed eyes for 15 minutes. The antioxidants in green tea can help reduce inflammation and promote smoother, firmer skin. Apply chamomile tea bags for soothing relief And finally as with green tea bags, chamomile tea bags can really help the eye area when applied topically. Chamomile is renowned for its calming and anti-inflammatory properties. Simply place two chamomile tea bags in hot water, let them cool, then place them over your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes. This can help reduce puffiness and inflammation, giving your eyes a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. Manage stress Stress can also contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as exercise, yoga, or meditation. How do you prevent crow's feet from forming in the first place? There are several lifestyle choices you can make to help fight the formation of crow’s feet. Wear sunglasses The delicate skin around our eyes is particularly susceptible to UV damage as it is thinner and more prone to wrinkling. By wearing sunglasses daily, you create a shield against the sun's harmful UV rays, protecting this sensitive area from sun exposure and thereby reducing the risk of developing crow's feet.Wearing sunglasses can also help to reduce squinting, one of the main contributors to crow's feet. Apply sunscreen every. single. day Wearing sunglasses isn’t the only thing to help shield your delicate eye area from sun damage. Actually wearing sunscreen daily is imperative too!The sun is hands down the no. 1 cause of premature ageing and therefore crow’s feet, and by wearing sunscreen religiously you can help prevent it! Go gentle on the delicate eye area Treat your eye area with the utmost care. Avoid harsh rubbing or tugging as this can damage your delicate eye area causing the tissue around your eyes to thin, making it more fragile and therefore be more susceptible to wrinkles. Practice eye exercises Performing simple eye exercises such as gentle massage can help improve blood circulation and reduce tension around the eyes potentially minimizing wrinkle formation. Incorporate retinol into your daily skincare routine Incorporating a retinol-based eye cream into your skincare routine can work wonders for your skin. Retinol helps boost collagen production and encourages cell turnover, leading to firmer, more youthful-looking skin. Drink plenty of water every single day Say no more. Water is life. We all know drinking plenty of water has an outstanding effect onour skin's health, so drink, drink, drink! Apply eye masks Treat yourself to some nourishing eye masks infused with hydrating and collagen-boosting ingredients. These can provide an instant plumping and brightening effect, giving your under-eye area a refreshed appearance. Eat a healthy diet If you’re looking for a simple solution for how to prevent crow’s feet, try to eat more of the following foods. Fish rich in omega-3s essential fatty acids such as salmon Avocados Nuts and seeds Extra virgin olive oil Berries Green leafy vegetables Foods high in antioxidants can help fight free radicals and pollution that contribute to lines and wrinkles. Avoid smoking Smoking it’s just bad for your health, it can seriously affect your skin's appearance too! This is because smoking can accelerate the ageing process quite significantly and contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Get yourself some reading glasses as soon as you need them! As we age, our vision can become impaired which causes us to squint, especially when we are trying to read or scroll through at our devices. Squinting is actually one of the main causes of crow’s feet, eek, so if you notice your eye sight deteriorating slightly go get your eyes tested immediately.Just remember, while crow's feet are a natural part of the aging process, taking care of your skin and following these tips can help minimize their appearance and promote a more youthful, radiant eye area.
Beauty Collective - multi-masking

What is multi-masking and is it right for your skin?

by Jo Boyden on Oct 27 2023
Ever wondered why a certain skincare product works wonders for your friend but leaves your skin looking far from flawless? Well, the answer lies in our skin type. You might have dry skin, while your friend’s is naturally oily. But then sometimes you might find that different areas of your face suddenly have different needs. Perhaps your cheeks are dry, but you’re experiencing pimples on your forehead and chin. Then what? It is a good idea to use your rich, dry skin moisturiser on your oily T-zone?! This is where skincare trend “multi-masking” could be your go to! Multi-masking is all about customising your skincare routine to target specific areas of face. Intrigued? Keep reading to learn all there is to know about multi-masking and whether it’s right for your skin. What exactly is multi-masking? Think of multi-masking as the art of using different face masks on various parts of your skin simultaneously to help combat a variety of skin concerns. Its like creating a tailored treatment for your skin addressing those different concerns at the same time.So if your forehead is oily but your cheeks are dry and then you’re experiencing pesky pimples on your chin and nose, multi-masking could be the perfect remedy. Is multi-masking right for you? While multi-masking can be a game-changer for some, it might not be for everyone. Here are a few things to consider; Identify your skin concerns Take a closer look at your skin and pinpoint the specific areas that need attention. If you have multiple skin concerns, multi-masking will likely be a great option for you. Choose the right mask for the right areas of your face Face masks are designed to target specific areas of concern and therefore each face mask depending on that concern will be formulated with different key ingredients. You need to be sure you select masks that cater to your skin's individual needs. Whether it's hydration, exfoliation, oil or blemish control, there's a mask out there for you, just choose wisely! For areas of your face suffering from dry skin, you’ll best to use a hydrating mask. Oily T-zone, apply a purifying mask to that area. Certain areas of your skin looking dull and devitalised, applying a brightening mask will do wonders for your skin! For oily skin areas with enlarged pores we recommend Pevonia’s Age Correction Micro-Pores Bio-Active Mask. The exceptional mask has been uniquely formulated to control sebum production and help reveal a matte complexion with a more even-toned, visibly minimized pores and younger-looking skin.If certain areas of your skin are dealing with breakouts try Pevonia’s Pure Skin Charcoal Mask is the perfect antidote for congested, dull skin. It neutralises pollutants, draws out impurities and leaves skin glowing with pure freshness! For dry skin, we love a super hydrating mask like Pevonia’s Ageless Skin Collagen Mask, it combats dehydration in just 10 minutes. The rich texture is a soothing balm as your skin literally drinks in the moisture leaving it both dewy and hydrated. And if skin is a little dull Pevonia’s Brightening Green Apple Mask is the best! It’s a clay-based mask to deep cleanse the pores and beautifully brighten skin tone! Patch test new masks first Before slathering different masks all over your face, it's crucial to do a patch test first. This will help you determine if your skin reacts well to the ingredients in each mask. Don’t overdo it While multi-masking can be both effective and fun! Don’t go overboard and over apply! Applying too many products at once can overwhelm your skin and lead to irritation. Its best to stick to 3 masks maximum at once. What are the benefits of multi-masking? By targeting different areas of your face with specific treatments, you can address multiple concerns simultaneously. It's like giving your skin a tailored spa treatment, leaving you with a refreshed, rejuvenated, and glowing complexion all over. How do you apply the masks? Using a brush or your fingers, carefully and evenly apply each mask to the appropriate area of your face. Then sit back and relax for 10 minutes while the masks work their magic. Remove with lukewarm water. For more on why you should incorporate face masks into your skincare routine, as well as the many benefits, click here. What’s more, for the month of October, 2023, when you purchase a Pevonia Face Mask, you’ll receive a Mask Brush for FREE.
Lactic Acid

Say goodbye to dull skin: How Lactic Acid revives your glow

by Jo Boyden on Oct 19 2023
If you've been on a quest to transform your dull skin into a gorgeously glowing complexion but have yet to see results, it could be due to the skincare products you are using. When it comes to reviving your skin's radiance you need to make sure you are using products rich in certain essential ingredients. We all know that vitamin C has the ability to dramatically brighten your complexion, but if you really want to achieve that much coveted healthy skin glow, the secret weapon so many of us aren’t familiar with is Lactic Acid. What is Lactic Acid?Don’t let the word acid scare you! Yes, lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), but this potent ingredient is derived from milk and is one of the gentlest AHAs there is. In fact, lactic acid is suitable for dry and sensitive skin.A natural exfoliant, lactic acid can breathe life into your lacklustre complexion. It works by dissolving the bonds that hold dead skin cells together, revealing the fresh, radiant skin underneath, the reason why it’s a favourite among those looking for a gentle yet effective exfoliation solution. Why your skin will love lactic acidLactic acid is a multitasker, here’s how it works it magic!Exfoliation without irritationLactic acid gently exfoliates the top layer of your skin, unclogging pores and sloughing away dead skin cells sitting on your skins surface. The result? Smoother, brighter skin without the redness and irritation that some other exfoliants can cause.Boosts hydrationUnlike some exfoliants that can leave your skin feeling stripped and dry, lactic acid actually has a moisturizing effect. It helps your skin retain moisture, which is key for maintaining a healthy glow.Fades dark spotsWhether you're dealing with sun spots, age spots, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, Lactic Acid is a hero at fading these pesky dark spots and promoting a more even skin tone.Softens fine linesReady for a little wrinkle-smoothing action? Another impressive feat of lactic acid is its ability to stimulate collagen production, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving your skin a plumper, more youthful look. How to incorporate lactic acid into your skincare routineReady to add this skin-loving ingredient to your skincare routine? Here's how:Choose wiselyLook for lactic acid in the form of serums, toners, or moisturisers. Pick products that suit your skin type and concerns.Patch testAs with any new skincare product, especially one with active ingredients, it's a good idea to do a patch test before slathering it all over your face. Apply a small amount to a small area of your skin to make sure your skin agrees with it.Start slowlyIf you're new to lactic acid, start with a lower concentration and gradually work your way up. This gives your skin time to adjust and reduces the risk of irritation.Use at nightSince lactic acid can make your skin a bit more sensitive to the sun, it's best to use it at night. Make sure to follow up with a good sunscreen during the day to protect your newly revitalized skin.Follow up with hydrationAfter using lactic acid, be sure to hydrate your skin with a nourishing moisturiser to keep it plump and supple. Our favourite products rich in lactic acidPhytomer Emergence Even Skin Tone Refining SerumInfused with both lactic acid and glycolic acid, this lightweight serum is a must for reducing the appearance of uneven pigmentation, acne, enlarged pores and dark spots.Medicalia Clarifying CleanserWith a balanced blend of lactic and salicylic acid the gentle cleanser works quickly and effectively to eliminate toxins, impurities, surface bacteria, and make-up. It’s ideal for inflamed, sensitive, acne prone and oily skin types.Medicalia L Retinol Smoothing CreamThe ultimate anti-ageing night cream, Medicalia's L Retinol Smoothing Cream is a must have for photodamaged skin. Formulated with micro-retinol®, glycolic, and lactic acid, it effectively lightens, brightens and smooths skin. Lacid acid is indeed a game-changer when it comes to your skin. Its ability to gently exfoliate, brighten and hydrate the skin makes it a must have for anyone looking to revive their natural glow. By incorporating lactic acid into your routine a few times a week, you'll be amazed at the transformation, trust me!
sensitive skin skincare and makeup routine

The best makeup tips for sensitive skin

by Jo Boyden on Oct 12 2023
If you suffer from sensitive skin, you’ll know that makeup can be somewhat of a challenge! After all you don’t want to spend your hard-earned dollars purchasing products that are only going to exacerbate your already compromised complexion!Unfortunately when it comes to sensitive skin, choosing the right makeup products for your skin’s specific needs, as well as adopting gentle preparation and application techniques, are imperative! To help guide you, below we reveal the top 9 makeup tips for sensitive skin sufferers and the best makeup products for you to try too! Products that will both help conceal and sooth your sensitive skin without any irritation. Sound good? Keep reading! Understand your skin Before you even consider your makeup, you need to really understand your skin. As well as being sensitive, is it dry? Oily? Combination perhaps? Do you have any specific skin conditions like rosacea or eczema? Are their certain ingredients that cause your skin to flair up? Understanding your skins unique needs will help you choose the right products. Check ingredients When selecting makeup products for sensitive skin, read labels carefully. You want to avoid highly fragranced products which are very likely to cause a negative reaction with sensitive skin. Also avoid, drying alcohols, witch hazel, citrus and products that contain a high % of essential oils. Another problem can be preservatives, particularly methylisothiazolinone and methylcholorisothiazoline which are often used to replace parabens, these are known sensitisers when used in leave on products.Instead look for terms like “fragrance-free” and “hypoallergenic”. This means that the makeup has been tested and proven to be less likely to cause irritation. Also check the label for ”non-comedogenic”. Non-comedogenic makeup is less likely to clog your pores, which can lead to breakouts.Mineral makeup will be your because bet, because its fragrance-free, hypoallergic and non-comedogenic and it tends to be packed with soothing, skin loving ingredients instead of ingredients that can cause irritation. Choose the right shade When it comes to choosing colours avoid products that are too yellow. Red skin and yellow makeup = orange complexion. Neutral shades are best for you and will help reduce the redness harmoniously. Patch test your products Before applying any new product to your face we recommend patch testing first to check for any allergic reactions or irritation. Either apply the product on an area like the back of your wrist or by apply a very small amount to your jawline. Make sure your skin is properly prepped Before diving into makeup, it’s imperative to start with a clean canvas. Use a gentle, sensitive skin cleanser to remove any impurities. Next, it’s time to moisturise. Sensitive skin can be on the dry side too, so it’s important to add nourishment. Opt for a moisturiser specifically designed to sooth and hydrate sensitive skin, this will lock in hydration and create a smooth base for the makeup to follow! We are loving Phytomer's Douceur Marine Soothing Moisturising Cream. It is beautifully silky in texture, soothing on the skin and visibly reduces skin redness. What’s more, its deeply hydrating without feeling greasy or heavy.Take only the size of a pea and pat the product into the skin to allow it to absorb slowly and naturally. You should also add a sunscreen with high SPF for a layer of added protection, this will help prevent sun damage and premature skin ageing like fines lines and wrinkles. We recommend: ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50 It’s time to prime All hail the makeup primer! This product will really be your best friend. A makeup primer will not only help create longer lasting makeup, but it will create a barrier between your skin and makeup reducing the risk of irritation too! Choose a gentle formula. We love ELES Retexturizing Face PrimerTo learn more about primers and just how good they are click here. Go light If you use foundation, go for a breathable, lightweight liquid formula. We love the best-selling ELES Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation. It's silky, mineral-enriched and provides skin with broad spectrum sun protection. It liquid formulated glides beautifully onto sensitive skin setting as a soft, powder finish, however it does not clog skin! Brilliant stuff.Another option is to look for multi-tasking products that treat, conceal and even tone in one. A tall ask? Not when it comes to CC Creams! These miracle formulas are colour correcting. So instead of applying a thick layer of opaque makeup to cover redness, the CC Cream’s Photonic Crystal Technology “offsets” redness, wrinkles and other skin imperfections, subtly illuminating the skin. This means less coverage is required, better for your sensitive skin! Try: ELES Luminous CC Cream 20, you’ll be so glad you did!To add colour or depth to your skin, you can incorporate a blush or bronzer too. You’re best to just choose mineral formulations once again, but make sure you choose powder over cream base. Cream-based products can sometimes clog pores or cause unnecessary irritation. Less is always more It's better to start with a light layer of makeup and build up coverage as needed than to apply too much makeup at once. Too much makeup can irritate sensitive skin and clog your pores. Remove your makeup at the end of the day. It's imperative to remove any makeup from your skin at the end of the day. Leaving impurities in the skin while you sleep will lead to more sensitivity! Allow your skin to perform its natural repair and regeneration at night by removing all your makeup and the day’s pollutants and you’ll wake up to a much calmer skin. While it may be tempting to coat your skin in rich and protective creams and oils, it’s better to drench it with lightweight moisture that will encourage better cell regeneration and protein rebuilding. We adore Phytomer's Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream. Perfectly silky and soothing it literally envelopes your skin in nourishment and comfort and helps boost your skin's renewal as you sleep so you’ll wake up to calmer, plumper skin by morning. Obsessed.
Ceramide

Ceramides: Everything you need to know

by Jo Boyden on Oct 05 2023
If you’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about ceramides but wondering what they actually are you’ve come to the right place.Unlike your hero ingredients hyaluronic acid, retinol, vitamin c, collagen and more, ceramides are the unsung heroes of the skincare world, quietly working behind the scenes to keep your skin healthy, hydrated and protected! Whether you have dry skin, sensitive skin or just want to maintain your skins natural glow, ceramides will be a valuable addition to your skincare arsenal. But before we talk about the best ceramide skincare, we need to understand what ceramides actually are and how they will help your skin. What are ceramides?Ceramides are natural lipids (fats) found naturally in high concentration in the cell membranes within our epidermis (the top 5 layers of our skin), however, ceramides are especially concentrated in the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the epidermis.) Think of this layer as your skin’s protective barrier. How do ceramides help our skin? Barrier protection Ceramides help to protect and strengthen your skins barrier, shielding it from external aggressors such as harsh weather conditions, bacteria and pollutants. This helps reduce skin redness, irritation and sensitivity. Moisture retention Ceramides help your skin hold onto moisture. They act like little sponges, preventing water loss and keeping your skin hydrated and plump. Skin Conditions If you suffer from skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, ceramides can be especially beneficial. They help repair the damaged skin barrier, reducing inflammation and irritation. Anti-Ageing As we age, ceramide levels in our skin dramatically decrease, leading to dryness and fine lines. Using ceramide-infused products can help counteract these effects, leaving your skin looking more youthful.Using skincare rich in ceramides, or products formulated with ingredients that stimulate ceramide production can help counteract these effects. These products can help improve skin health, boost hydration, protect against harmful UV rays, rejuvenate skin and boost barrier function. Just remember no ceramides? Nothing to keep all those hydrating ingredients from evaporating from the skin. You'll usually find ceramides in moisturisers, but you also can find them as a key ingredient in cleansers, serums, and other skin-care products too! Here are our top five ceramide rich skincare favourites. Skincare essentials for your next flight

by Jo Boyden on Sep 22 2023
Whether you’re a frequent flyer or are about to set off on your next getaway since school holidays are nearly here, you’ll likely know that travelling can take a toll on your skin. Long flights, changing climates and recycled cabin air (eek) can leave your complexion looking dull and drab and your skin dehydrated. However if you arm yourself with the right skincare essentials in preparation for your next flight, you can save your skin and step off the plane looking as radiant as ever! Keep reading as we count down 6 skincare essentials that’ll keep your skin glowing even at 30,000 feet! Water Sure it might not be a skincare product as such but remember when it comes to looking after your skin on your next fight, the first and most crucial rule is to stay hydrated! Airplane cabins are notorious for their dry air which can sap the moisture from your skin like nothing else! So before you even board the plane make sure you’re well hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and continue to do so throughout the flight! Cleanser As soon as you get settled into your seat it’s a good idea to start your skincare routine to ensure your skin is clean and ready to absorb moisture! After all keeping your skin clean and fresh is essential, even when you’re on the move. Invest in a travel-sized cleanser that fits snugly into your in-flight toiletry bag. Choose a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type, whether it’s a cream, gel, or foam formula. Cleansing your face will remove impurities, excess oil, and makeup that can clog up skin on a long-haul flight! Try Pevonia CleanRefresh Foaming Oil Cleanser. Suitable for all skin types (but especially recommended for that dry, parched skin travelling can leave us with) this cleanser is an oil cleanser, that feels like gel and when mixed with water transforms into a beautiful foaming lather that in turn delivers a truly luxurious cleansing experience! It’s lipid rich, alcohol-free and soap free. What more could you want! Nourishing and cleansing in one. If your favourite cleanser doesn’t come in travel size, you could try decanting it, or why not opt for a travel friendly kit instead? We are loving Pevonia’s range of travel friendly skincare kits. Hydrating Serum Applying a hydrating serum to your skin after cleansing will make a huge difference. Serums are lightweight, nourishing and help lock in moisture so no more moistures being sapped from your skin thanks to the cabin air! We recommend Phytomer Hydra continue 22h moisture flash Gel. If you do a lot of flying, this should become your go-to to restore hydration in skin both before, during and after flights. This beautiful light textured gel is like giving your skin its own glass of water to keep hydrated and the results are also immediate. Multi-tasking moisturiser Moisturising is the secret to keeping your skin plump and radiant throughout the flight. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides and vitamin c to replenish moisture and keep your skin looking visibly radiant too. We are loving Phytomer's Hydra Continue Radiance Energizing Cream. It’s a beautifully nourishing but lightweight cream with a velvety finish. The products name definitely reflects the results, as this subtly scented moisturiser is both energising and radiance inducing that’s for sure! This beautifully light-textured cleanser gently removes accumulated impurities, while diffusing redness and irritation. Formulated with Chamomile and Calendula it delivers soothing, calming and desensitizing benefits to your delicate skin. Cool off with a cold compress When your face is feeling particularly fiery, try a cold compress. A soft cloth soaked in cold water can work wonders to calm redness and soothe your skin. Stay hydrated When it comes to facial redness water is your best friend. Staying hydrated helps maintain your skin's natural moisture balance. It's like giving your skin a drink of water from the inside out. You’ll also want to up the anti when it comes to nourishing your skin topically. Make sure you moisturise twice a day and add a hydrating serum into your daily routine too.Try: Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. Featuring one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the skincare market, its honestly like a burst of nourishment for the skin. And combined with a powerful duo of marine collagen and hibiscus esculentus extract it also provides optimum anti-ageing results. It penetrates deeply into the skin delivering smoother, calmer, softer, plumper, firmer and brighter skin! What’s more it’s ideal for all skin types! Wear mineral makeup WE totally understand that when you suffer from rosacea or skin redness you aren’t likely to forego makeup altogether. You do need to let your skin breath freely to reduce irritation though so its essential to opt for mineral makeup that will allow just this. Mineral makeup is non-comedogenic which means it won’t clog your pores.Try: ELES Mineral Powder Foundation. As a sufferer of want for a better word ‘flushed skin’ I personally LOVE the best-selling ELES Mineral Powder Foundation! It’s one of my all-time favourites. It’s one of the most natural-looking, if not THE most natural-looking foundations I have in fact ever tried and being in the industry for 20 years I’ve tried many! It contains zero chemical nasties, instead, it’s packed with skin loving ingredients including vitamins A & E, can be used as a buildable foundation from natural sheer to polished opaque (dependant on what you need) and it’s highly compatible with common skin sensitivities, working wonders at camouflaging facial redness while protecting skin against ultraviolet damage too!Another good option is to try a colour corrector which will help visually correct redness and even out skin tone at the same time. Using one with UV protection will also help shield your sensitive skin from exposure that can aggravate skin sensitivities.Try: ELES Luminous CC Cream SPF 20. It’s a game changer when it comes to colour correcting red skin! It’s a lightweight, oil-free, colour correcting cream with broad spectrum protection that really does multi-task like no other! And while it’s technically not a foundation, the full coverage pigments cover facial redness—be it from rosacea, pimples, irritation, you name it—so well that you very well may be able to get away without wearing any other makeup. Be sunscreen savvy Sunscreen isn't just for sunny days. UV rays can exacerbate redness and inflammation. Opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and apply it religiously, even on cloudy days.Try: ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection SPF 50. We understand that so many sunscreens feel greasy, don’t smell great or simply don’t sit well on our skin, and then there are those thick white sunscreens that look like a paste when applied too, the last thing you want to be worried about when your skin is already a little on the sensitive side. That’s why we love ELES Luminous Defence. It’s not greasy but instead silky soft, the scent isn’t unpleasant, and it applies beautifully to my skin. And thanks to its formulation its helps nourish and restore skins luminosity too, not to mention it’s high SPF of 50. Wear a soothing mask If your skin redness is potentially caused by dryness or inflammation a natural face mask or sheet mask specifically formulated to cool and calm skin can work wonders.Try: ELES Calming and Soothing Sheet Mask. Incorporating natural botanicals it soothes and reduces inflammation. Like a cool balm, this calming mask reduces redness and heat and restores a protective barrier to prevent moisture loss. Manage your stress Easier said than done I know! Especially if you are juggling life, kids, work….but stress can be a big trigger for facial redness so its important to incorporate stress management techniques into your daily routine. Try meditation, yoga or simply taking time out for yourself to relax and unwind whether that’s going for walks, reading a book or simply having time out in from of the tv. I highly recommend the app Headspace for meditation. And for some soothing sounds try ambient relaxation music on Spotify. Bliss. Choose your skincare products wisely Check the ingredients list of the skincare products you purchase. You want to steer clear of products containing alcohol or fragrances which can exacerbate redness and instead opt for products specifically targeted for sensitive skin which include soothing ingredients such as aloe vera, chamomile, green tea or niacinamide. These can help cool and calm any inflammation as well as reduce your facial redness. Consider topical creams If you know that the redness on your skin is caused by rosacea, you can also look to certain skincare ranges to treat your symptoms.Try: Pevonia’s best-selling RS2 line. It can help soothe the skin as well as successfully elevating the symptoms. Revise your diet Underlying facial redness can actually be related to what you eat so making simple changes to your diet can make all the difference. We recommend an anti-inflammatory diet, which includes green leafy vegetables, fish, essential oils, and low-glycemic fruits. Try to give simple sugars, grains, non-organic meats, dairy, and high-glycemic fruits a miss..and avoid triggers such as spicy foods, citrus, tomato, chocolate, and cinnamon. Make lifestyle changes While facial redness can be a frustrating problem, the cause can often be more than skin deep. This means that the solution can require certain lifestyle changes in addition to the steps mentioned above. Try decreasing sun exposure, don’t go walking in the wind! If you smoke, don’t! Stop drinking all the hot drinks and make sure you drink cold water when ever you are exercising. Remember to be patient and consistent when managing facial redness and don't get discouraged if you don't see immediate results.
chemical peel

What is a chemical peel and what does it do for your skin?

by Jo Boyden on Sep 08 2023
If you’re reading this, you’ve likely heard of the term “chemical peel” but are probably wondering what a chemical peel actually is? As well as how it can benefit your skin. And we totally understand how the words “chemical peel” might make your run for the hills, after all how is applying chemicals to your face even a thing? Believe me though, when I say there are so many benefits to chemical peels, oh, and they are perfectly safe to use at home too! Keep reading as we reveal all there is to know about these transformative treatments and how a chemical peel might truly be what’s best for your skin. What is a chemical peel?A chemical peel is a skincare product or procedure that involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin. This solution is specifically formulated to exfoliate the outermost layer of skin (the epidermis). As the name suggests, it "peels" away the damaged or dead skin cells, revealing smoother, healthier skin underneath.Chemical peels are used to effectively treat a number of skin concerns including fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. What does a chemical peel do for your skin? Chemical peels have a multitude of benefits. These include;Deep exfoliationThe primary purpose of a chemical peel is to exfoliate the skin. It removes dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and encourages cellular turnover.Getting rid of acne and acne scaringChemical peels can help manage acne by reducing the appearance of pimples and preventing new breakouts. They also fade acne scars over time.Reducing hyperpigmentationPeels can lighten and even out skin tone by targeting hyperpigmentation, such as sunspots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.Reducing wrinklesChemical peels stimulate collagen production, helping to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They're often used for anti-aging purposes.Improving skin textureIf you struggle with rough or uneven skin texture, chemical peels can help create much smoother skin.Helping facial redness and rosaceaFor those with redness or rosacea, certain types of chemical peels can help calm and soothe the skin, reducing redness.Brightening skin toneSuffer from dull skin? Chemical peels can help with this too! Revealing a brighter, radiant complexion.Enhancing the absorption of other skin care productsMuch like exfoliators, chemical peels unclog pores, this enables skincare products to fully absorb into your skin, penetrating to the deeper levels for optimum results. So if you have a specific skin concern like hyperpigmentation or acne? There’s a chemical peel out there with your name and solution on it!How do chemical peels work?Chemical peels work through a process called chemical exfoliation. Here's a breakdown of the key steps: Cleansing - Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, dirt, and oils. This step ensures that the chemical solution can penetrate evenly. Application - The chemical solution is applied to your skin, typically with a brush or cotton pad. The type and strength of the solution used depend on your skin type and the desired results. Contact time - The solution is left on your skin for a specific amount of time. Timing can be crucial, as it dictates the depth of the peel. Neutralization - After the appropriate time has elapsed, the chemical peel is neutralized to stop the exfoliation process. Recover - Your skin will naturally shed the damaged outer layer over the next few days to reveal fresh, rejuvenated skin underneath. Types of chemical peelsThese are actually a few types of chemical peels and these depend on their depth and the specific concerns they address. They include superficial peels (ideal for mild exfoliation and improving skin texture), medium peels (they penetrate a little deeper than superficial peels and so are good for dealing with pigmentation issues and wrinkles) and finally deep peels (as the name suggests these particular peels are intense, should only be performed by a professional and tend to be used to address more severe signs of skin ageing and issues such a deep set wrinkles and scaring.)Want to try a peel but still a little scared? Start at home with a more gentle option. We highly recommend Vie Collection Night Peel Progressive Resurfacing Cream. It’s an ultra-soft night version of the chemical peel! Its a modern balm with a creamy texture that offers complete exfoliation to the skin, helping to brighten, refine and improve smoothness for a younger-looking complexion. Its formula is enriched with glycolic acid and citric acids and has a progressive diffusion to act continuously all through the night. Each morning the complexion appears more luminous and even. After one month the skin looks renewed. Seriously. If you love the idea of what a chemical peel can do for your skin but the idea still terrifies you, why not try an enzyme peel first? It’s a natural, gentler alterative. Enzyme peels work by stimulating the production of collagen, removing dead skin cells and promoting cell regeneration. They also contain antioxidants that help improve your skin's complexion.Enzyme peels are composed of fruit enzymes that digest dead skin cells while simultaneously nourishing the skin to reveal a brighter, healthier complexion. The best part of enzyme peels is they are gentle enough for sensitive skin, require zero downtime, and yield immediate results.Try Pevonia Enzymo Spherides Peeling Cream. Papaya and Pineapple have been selected for their enzyme peeling action, an action that gently digests away impurities, sebum, toxins and the dead skin cells, instead of abrading or burning them off. So it’s gentle, really gentle, and it’s effective too! Nothing makes skin feel cleaner, lighter or more purified than this jar of goodness and it’s easy to use; simply apply a thin layer on cleansed skin, wet the fingertips with warm water, this will help to “wake up” the enzymes, then leave them to do their thing for 5-10 minutes, then rinse away. What you are left with is skin that looks reborn and with a lustrous sheen.

How to protect your skin from pollution

by Jo Boyden on Sep 08 2023
We all know that the sun’s UV rays can wreak havoc on our skin, but are we all aware of how damaging pollution can be too? We’re talking everything from soot, dust or smoke to even smaller specs, which cannot be seen by the naked eye!If you’ve ever suffered from dull, devitalised skin, blotchiness and breakouts, discolouration, inflammation and premature ageing even, chances are it could be the result of pollution, and if you live in an urban area like me, there is sadly no escaping it! The good news however, is you can take many measures to protect your skin from it, keep reading as we reveal them all. Smart Cleansing I’m certain when I say we all cleanse our skin daily, but cleansing your skin properly (not aggressively) each night is an essential when it comes to protecting your skin from pollution. While pollutants can be like cell munching monsters that stick to the skin like velcro, a great cleanser, used gently will help remove them and still maintain your skin’s natural barrier. And the great news is there are cleansers that have been designed specifically to target pollution. They thoroughly remove dirt, grime, makeup, pollution and impurities, but do not strip the skin like harsher cleansers can.Consider a double cleansing routine too if your wear makeup everyday, starting with an oil-based cleanser followed by Phytomer Souffle Marin Cleansing Foaming Cream. Formulated with depolluting armeria maritima, an anti-pollution marine sugar and oligomer (seawater concentrate rich in minerals and trace elements), it cleanses, purifies, and invigorates the skin with a beautifully fresh, clean feeling. Effective exfoliation Just cleansing your face is likely not enough to remove all the polluting particles once they have entered your pores which is why you need a good exfoliating cleanser too! Cue award winning product Phytomer CITYLIFE Ultra Cleansing Flash Peel. This is the first of its kind, a pollution defence deep cleanser. Power packed with a high concentration of exfoliating enzymes, it leaves the skin healthy, purified, smooth, soft and with an incredible glow. Love. Skin barrier boost Your skin has its own protective barrier, but it could use some reinforcements. Look for an added boost of hydration and antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E and niacinamide, in the form of a serum or concentrate. These superheros fight off free radicals and help further repair skin damage caused by pollution.Try Phytomer Oligo 6 Marine Concentrate with Vitamins, Prebiotic Complex and Trace Elements which includes vitamins C, E, B and B3, Phytomer’s marine prebiotic complex and OLIGOMER®, to effectively help fight free radicals on the skins surface. This moisturising gel really is the perfect antidote for tired, dull complexions. You’ll love the way it rebalances, hydrates and boosts lacklustre skin (as well as protecting it of course!) Sun protection Never, ever underestimate the power of sunscreen! Sunscreen not only shields your skin from harmful UV rays but also acts as a protective barrier against pollution. Opt for a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and wear it daily, even on cloudy days! Face Mask Treat yourself to a detoxifying face mask once or twice a week. Your skin will thank you for it! Clay masks, charcoal masks and masks with activated charcoal can help draw out impurities and pollutants from your pores. The face mask we can’t recommend more highly is Phytomer Radiance Reviving Mask with Clay. It combines 100% natural red and white clays, blue microalgae, red algae and a comprehensive depolluting complex of 3 marine sugars, and instantly unclogs pores and counters the effects of pollution (dehydration, signs of fatigue, dark spots and a dull complexion!) Want your skin to look less tired and to recover its original radiance? Try this! Hydrate, inside and out When we talk about skin and hydration we aren’t just talking about moisturising, it’s about maintaining your skins natural barrier. You want to protect your skin as best you can! Remember to drink water like it’s going out of fashion and apply your moisturiser religiously as it can help in lock that much needed moisture as well as create a protective layer on your skin. Better still look for a moisturiser specifically formulated to combat the effects of pollution. We love Phytomer Citylife Face and Eye Contour Sorbet Cream. With its Citysafe complex (a trio of anti-oxidant biotech marine sugars) and Oligomer, it literally sweeps away toxic micro-particles and repairs skin damage caused by pollution! Even better, its suitable for face and eyes, re-oxygenating tired, dull and dehydrated skin. And finally, don’t skip on an antioxidant-rich diet! Weve talked about antioxidants in your skincare, but a diet rich in antioxidants can also do wonders for your skin, especially if you’re living in an urban area. Be sure to load up on colourful fruits and veggies, and add nuts and fatty fish into the equation too. These are the best foods to provide your body with the tools it needs to fight free radicals and repair skin damage! So, the long and the short of it is pollution is bad, antioxidants are good and implementing these protective measures into your daily routine can help your skin stay healthy.
under eye crepiness

Top tips to improve under eye crepiness

by Jo Boyden on Sep 01 2023
If like me, you’re in your 40’s (or older), you may have fallen victim to under eye crepiness – that undesirable loose, wrinkled skin that can make you look tired, but also older than you actually are! This is because as we age the collagen and elastin levels in our skin starts to decline, as it does the delicate skin around our eyes (one of the first and most prevalent areas to show premature ageing) becomes dryer and thinner, and well crepey! Luckily all is not lost though! There are a number of steps you can take to improve its appearance, and we aren’t talking chemical peels, dermal fillers, laser and Botox, no siree, we are all about natural, non-intrusive alternatives. Keep reading as we reveal them all!Firstly though, why might you be more susceptible to under eye crepiness? The most common cause of fine lines, wrinkles and crepey skin under your eyes is unfortunately ageing, which can of course be influenced by genetics (thank you Mum and Dad!) But other common contributing factors which may be possible to avoid include;UV radiation – exposure to UV rays accelerates the breakdown of collagen leading to premature ageing, this is why it’s essential to protect our peepers! If you don’t wear sunnies every single day like you do your sunscreen, you should now!Smoking – smoking exposures your skin to extra oxidative stress, in turn damaging its collagen and elastin. Smoking also constricts the blood vessels under your eyes by blocking circulation to your blood vessels and depriving your skin of necessary vitamin A.Environmental factors - environmental factors, such as dry weather, wind, and pollution can all contribute to undereye ageing.Pulling repetitive expressions – well I’m definitely guilty of this! Facial expressions, like smiling, frowning, and furrowing your brow, can cause fine lines to develop prematurely around your delicate eye area. Eek!Even the way we sleep can have a negative impact on our eyes! What you might say? Yup, if you sleep with your face buried in your pillow (guilty as charged) you are likely to be more prone to premature fine lines, wrinkles and eye crepiness, than those that don’t! Aghhh. How can you improve undereye crepiness?Although crepey skin will not disappear overnight, it can be drastically improved with time, the right anti-aging products, as well as lifestyle changes. It can take weeks or even months to see results, but by following these top 10 tips you can bid adieu to that saggy, sullen, crepey skin under your eyes. Stay hydrated. All. The. Time. Yes, you’ve heard it a million times before, drink all the water. Hydration is key my friends. Make sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day (we’re talking 8 glasses minimum). When you drink water, it’s like giving your skin a drink from the inside out too (and that water has to nourish all your other vital organise too! Treat sunscreen like is your BFF Never underestimate the power of sunscreen. Those harmful UV rays are a major contributor to premature aging. So, slather on that sunscreen every morning, even on cloudy days. Your future self will thank you!Not a huge fan of sunscreen? We get it. Soo many sunscreens feel greasy, don’t smell great or simply don’t sit well on our skin, and then there are those thick white sunscreens that look like a paste when applied too! That’s why we love the ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection SPF 50. It’s not greasy but instead silky soft, the scent isn’t unpleasant, and it applies beautifully to my skin. And thanks to its formulation its helps nourish and restore skins luminosity too, not to mention it’s high SPF of 50! Invest in an eye cream rich in hyaluronic acid and use it day and night Investing in a good quality eye cream that's packed with hydrating and skin-loving ingredients including hyaluronic acid and peptides will do wonders for ageing eyes. Gently pat the product around your eyes morning and night for that extra boost of moisture and optimal results. For more on the benefits of using hyaluronic acid under your eyes and our 3 favourite eye treatments click here. Add a gemstone facial roller to your daily beauty routine The roller will, not only help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, when used correctly, it can dramatically reduce puffiness by moving excess fluid around your eyes towards your lymph nodes where it filters out the toxins too. Cool right? To find out more about the facial rollers and how to use them click here. Introduce tea time for your eyes Tea isn’t just for drinking you know, it’s also good for soothing your eyes too! Try placing cold tea bags (caffeine free, herbal tea is best!) on your closed eyes for a few minutes. The tannins in tea can help tighten the skin and reduce puffiness too! Consider practicing eye massage Light massage with your ring finger can improve bloody circulation and actually help your skin appear smoother. Remember gentle, gentle though as applying too much pressure to already thin, delicate skin can have the adverse effect! Give your eyes a rest from screen time Increased time in front of your laptop and on your phone can reap havoc with your precious peepers. In fact, spending just two consecutive hours on a digital device can cause eyestrain or fatigue while overexposure to blue light also suppresses the release of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep, therefore disrupting our normal sleep pattern. And we all know poor sleep can lead to premature ageing, especially around the delicate eye area! Make healthy lifestyle choices Your overall health reflects on your skin, including the delicate eye area. Eat a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids. And if you're a smoker, consider kicking the habit – smoking accelerates skin aging like nobody's business. Using gentle cleansing is a must Be kind to your skin when you cleanse but also never skip on cleansing, it’s a must, just be sure to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser that doesn't strip away your skin's natural oils. Harsh cleansers can contribute to dryness and crepiness. Try Medicalia’s Gentle Cleanser. Introduce cold compress magic Incorporate cold compresses into your routine. Applying a cold, damp cloth or chilled spoons over your eyes for a few minutes can help reduce puffiness and refresh your skin. Keep skin hydrated Invest in a good hydrating mist. A quick spritz throughout the day can give your skin the moisture it craves, helping to minimize crepiness. We love Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist. It’s one of my all time favourites. Make sure you get enough Zzzz’s Beauty sleep is real people! After all it’s not dubbed beauty sleep for nothing! Make sure you're getting enough restful sleep each night. Elevate your head slightly with an extra pillow to prevent fluid from pooling around your eyes, which can lead to puffiness and crepiness. Upgrade your pillow case If you are one for sleeping with your face in the pillow, you might want to consider switching up your cotton pillowcase to a silk or satin alternative instead.Silk has natural moisturising properties to retain moisture around the eyes. The dense weave of the silky-smooth fibres also keep moisture close to your skin, this extra moisture can help to reduce dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles.Just remember, Rome wasn’t built in day, and your under-eye skin won’t transform overnight either sadly (if only!) Be patient and be religious with these steps and you’ll be waking up to smoother, brighter and younger looking eyes soon!
Skin Blurring products - woman with flawless skin

The best makeup products to create photo filter inspired skin

by Jo Boyden on Aug 25 2023
I love a good photo filter, they have the ability to shave years off my face! No more fine lines and wrinkles, just smooth flawless skin instead! Well imagine being able to blur away those imperfections and create that soft-focus effect without using an app! Cue skin blurring makeup! That’s right, products that are actually formulated to give your skin that perfectly filtered look!Skin blurring products contain innovative ingredients that create a soft, diffused effect on our skin. These ingredients, such as silicone form a breathable invisible barrier on your skin’s surface filling in fine lines, pores and imperfections. They essentially provide a ‘smoothing’ canvas for your makeup, just like a filter does for your photos. Read on as we reveal our favourite skin blurring makeup products. Use these and you’ll not need to add a filter again! ELES Retexturizing Face PrimerPrimer may not be part of your daily makeup routine, in fact primers are a product many of us will forgo, but if you want to optimize the effects of your makeup and ensure it lasts all day (or night), this step shouldn't be skipped! And while makeup primers won’t enhance your skin quite like a bronzer, or conceal pesky pimples like a foundation, they are formulated to hide and blur imperfections! They are in fact touted as the photoshop of the makeup world! How they actually blur imperfections is down to two key ingredients: silicone particles which “fill in the gaps” on the surface of skin to even it out, and light-diffusing particles which scatter the light that hits the surface of the skin, creating an optical illusion that tricks the eye and makes pores and fine lines less visible. Sounds ideal right? This why we love ELES Cosmetics ELES Retexturizing Face Primer. Not only does this soothing, lightweight serum feel like actual silk on your skin, it basically helps protect, condition, smooth and blur out skin imperfections too! Want to look like a filtered goodness, and have makeup last the distance, try this! ELES Liquid Powder Mineral FoundationFor that filter-effect flawless finish you can achieve in photos, choosing the right foundation finish is key. A matte foundation is usually your best bet because it reflects less light, which makes pores less obvious and gives your skin a smoother look. It also cuts down on shine, so your makeup will look smooth and flawless as long as possible. We highly recommend ELES Cosmetics best-selling Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation. It’s a silky, mineral-enriched liquid foundation that glides on beautifully and sets to a soft, powder finish. Oh and it has broad spectrum sun protection too!If your skin is very dry though you might want to opt for a dewier finish. As well as choosing the right type of foundation for your skin, make sure you select the right colour too! For more information on how to choose the right foundation for your skin type click here.ELES Baked Finishing Powder in Diffused LightWhile your primer will blur imperfections and your foundation will provide you with a flawless base, a finishing power will complete the soft filtered finish to your skin!We love the ELES Baked Finishing Powder in Diffused Light. It’s the compact of miracles I tell you and will totally transform your skin in seconds! It acts itself like a photo filter on your skin, subtle enough for daily wear, yet gives you that truly “lit from within glow”!The microfine powder’s jet milled pigments bring a soft-focus finish for a blurring effect over imperfections and fine lines. The deeper tones in the powder enhance contours, while the highlight softly strobe and reflect away imperfections to make skin look professionally retouched and simply sublime every time! Incredibly light, it never gets chalky, weighs down the skin or even looks like your wearing powder, yet keeps any shine at bay. And all you have to do is apply your morning skincare, then simply brush a light layer all over your face with a makeup brush and watch your skin truly transform.

7 of the best ingredients to brighten your skin

by Jo Boyden on Aug 17 2023

By introducing a few simple steps, you can take your skin from drab to radiant in next to no time! And no we aren’t talking makeup, even though you can achieve a ‘brighter glow’ with a good stick illuminator or power highlighter, it’s the ‘lit from within’ glow we are all after which can only truly be achieved by using the right skincare products, skincare products formulated with the best skin brightening ingredients that is!From the infamous vitamin C to powerhouse retinol, keep reading as we countdown the best skincare ingredients to brighten your dull skin, 7 ingredients that will reduce dark spots, fade hyperpigmentation, clear pores, smooth skins surface and well, create an overall radiant complexion…. Vitamin CThis outstanding brightening ingredient is like a burst of sunshine for your skin. It’s a powerful antioxidant that fights off free radicals and prevents skin from developing photodamage and dark spots caused by sun exposure. It also evens out skin tone and promotes collagen production. This translates to a smoother, more radiant complexion that is free from dullness and discolouration. All hail Vitamin C!Try: Pevonia C Complex - How can we describe a serum that smells like a fresh orange, is silkier than silk and once applied leaves your skin looking as though you’ve just returned from a tropical island holiday? A bit over the top? Ok, maybe… but seriously, this is an addictive product and when applied beneath your regular moisturiser offers a vibrancy and luminosity rarely seen without a pound of makeup. Many clients comment that it has in fact helped eliminate the need for foundation! Pretty serious claim but true nonetheless. It’s seriously good stuff! So if dullness and tiredness are your skin woes, try this glow getter! You won’t be disappointed. Glycolic AcidDon’t let the word ‘acid’ scare you. Glycolic acid is a water soluble AHA (otherwise known as alpha-hydroxy acid) derived from sugar cane! It’s a type of natural exfoliant which dissolves the ‘glue’ that holds dead skin cells together, enabling them to be easily sloughed away revealing fresh, healthy skin underneath. And because of its small molecule size (glycolic acid actually has the smallest molecular size among all AHAs) it is able to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin where it can help treat everything from fine lines to uneven texture, blemishes, and of course dullness!Try: Pevonia Renewing Glycocides Cream - If your skin is looking a tad dull and devitalised and you’re forever coveting that ‘insta-glow’, this product is your answer! Formulated with most renowned AHA glycolic acid combined with hydration hero Hyaluronic Acid, this treatment cream works to dissolve dead skin cells, improving skin texture and diminishing fine lines too! Skin resurfaces soother, brighter and younger…seriously. RetinolIf you’re searching for a way to turn back the clock and reveal a brighter, more youthful complexion, look no further than this holy grail anti-ageing wonder ingredient! A derivative of Vitamin A, retinol stimulates cell turnover, inhibits melanin production (which helps dimmish hyperpigmentation, dark spots and acne scars), boosts collagen production and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The results? Skin looks plump, firm and positively luminous!Try: Pevonia’s Micro-Retinol Line – this outstanding range of retinol products contains all-natural retinol, sourced from green leafy vegetables, paired with powerhouse duo Vitamin C and Vitamin E for optimal results! Each product in the range also utilizes a specialized technology to create micro-particles of retinol that get delivered deep into the epidermis. This means complete product absorption, no skin irritation and beautifully brighter skin.Tip: Apply in the evening, always wear SPF the morning after application, and avoid layering with exfoliating acids and vitamin c.Lactic AcidSimilarly to glycolic acid, lactic acid dissolves the upper layers of dead skin cells, kickstarting a process of renewal that means fresh new cells come to the surface and make skin appear brighter. Lactic acid has larger molecules than glycolic acid, so doesn’t penetrate as deeply and is less likely to irritate sensitive skin.Try: Phytomer Emergence Even Skin Tone Refining SerumThis lightweight, refining face serum formulated with a powerful AHA formulation, visibly reduces the appearances of imperfections. It diminishes the appearance of uneven pigmentation, acne, enlarged pores and dark spots, making your skin appear younger, brighter and healthier! EnzymesWhen it comes to exfoliation, papaya enzymes are the gentle giants (so if you have sensitive skin this is the way to go!) They provide skin with a very gentle form of exfoliation as they don’t adjust the skin’s pH. Enzymes literally dissolve dead skin cells by breaking down the keratin protein in the upper layers of your skin, revealing brighter skin underneath. It’s like a mini day spa for your face!Try: Pevonia Enzymo Spherides Peeling Cream- There’s something so wholesome about this peeling cream that smells so delicious you could eat it! Papaya and Pineapple have been selected for their enzyme peeling action, in other words, an action that gently digests away the dead skin cells instead of abrading or burning them off. What you are left with is skin that looks reborn and with a lustrous sheen.Hyaluronic AcidBright skin doesn't just mean saying goodbye to dark spots – it's also about having plump, hydrated skin that looks youthful and alive. Hyaluronic acid is a master at retaining moisture, giving your skin that dewy, healthy glow that turns heads.Try: Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic acid vitamin mask containing a cocktail of vitamins and hyaluronic acid, this sensational mask reveals hydrated skin and a radiant complexion. With each application, skin is visibly smoothed and plumped. NiacinamideIf you're dealing with pesky dark spots, redness, or an uneven skin tone, niacinamide might just become your new best friend. This B-vitamin helps regulate sebum production, soothes inflammation, and minimizes the appearance of pores. The result? Clearer, more even skin that's positively glowing.Try: ELES Hydrating and Brightening Sheet Mask - if you’re dealing with dryness, dehydration, discolouration and dullness and could do with an instant pick-me-up, as well as boost of hydration, a sheet mask that contains nourishing and brightening ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin c or niacinamide is the way to go! We can’t get enough of this sheet mask by ELES Cosmetics, it plumps the skin from within, radically reducing moisture loss, plus extra bonus it helps to prevent hyperpigmentation and give your skin a fabulous, healthy glow.Remember, achieving bright, glowing skin isn’t an overnight process. Whether you’re dealing with dark spots, dullness, or simply want to enhance your natural radiance, these 7 outstanding ingredients will have you covered!

As someone who loves the warm, sultry months of summer, I always find it hard adjusting to the dry, cold air of winter, and this is coming from the person who spent 25 years living in the UK! I guess I just don’t like the way my skin goes from dewy and glowy to dehydrated and drab in just a matter of months.Cold days, zero humidity and artificial heating we all become accustomed to in winter, can put undue stress on our skin, leading to a dry, lifeless or super sensitive complexion! Just a few swipes of blush will not only add colour and depth to your cheeks but can make your entire complexion look healthier, and your skin more youthful. It adds an extra glow that bronzer and highlighter just can’t mimic. We highly recommend the ELES Baked Blush in a shade of your preference – my current favourite is Posey. It adds instant radiance to your cheeks thanks to its highly pigmented formula. Plus, it’s silky smooth and super nourishing, great for dull, dehydrated skin types!Just be sure to apply it correctly – use a Blush Brush and lift colour upwards towards your temple from the apple of your cheek. You won’t regret introducing this little staple!Pevonia Dry Oil Body MoisturiserOften, we become lazy when it our bodies in winter! Neglecting the areas of our skin we have become accustomed to looking after in warm summer months! However, during winter, the skin on our bodies becomes just as dry and lacklustre as the skin on our face! And I’m sure none of us like that uncomfortable, itchy feeling every evening when we’ve indulged in a hot shower or bath but not bothered to moisturise after! We get it though, not everyone is a fan of rich body moisturisers that can leave your skin feeling a little on the sticky side! Cue Pevonia’s international best-selling body product (and one of our all-time favourites) the Dry Oil Body Moisturiser! Even though it’s a ‘dry oil’ it literally indulges and nourishes skin without leaving an oily or greasy feeling, at all! This is because it absorbs immediately into skin leaving it feeling silky soft and supple after every application instead! If you apply it straight after the shower while your skin is still a little damp, you’ll lock in moisture and reap in the benefits too. Plus it’ll restore any moisture lost from standing under that super-hot water I mentioned earlier that many of us I’m sure love to indulge in, in the cold winter months! Guilty as charged!Phytomer Oleocreme Ultra-Nourishing Hand CreamOur hands often bear the brunt of the winter chill, this is why a good hand cream is an absolute essential for me in winter, and hey why shouldn’t we look after our hands as we do our face? The thing is before I discovered Phytomer’s Oleocreme Ultra-Nourishing Hand Cream I hated the feel of wearing hand cream and I’d want to wash my hands immediately after I’d applied it, so instead I used to bear the brunt of dry cracked skin! Not anymore! My favourite hand cream (and I’ve tried many) absorbs into skin immediately and intensely nourishes, soothes and softens my dry, damaged hands. I take it everywhere I go!
Beauty Collective - Jade Roller

Face Roller – the perfect skincare addition

by Jo Boyden on Aug 04 2023
Gemstone 'jade' rollers. They aren’t a new beauty trend, in fact people have been using this massage tool since the 7th century! Originated in ancient China, jade rollers were then considered to be a precious gemstone with anti-ageing superpowers, and jade ‘rolling’ was a skincare ritual reserved for the elite, however in recent years it appears that every skincare fanatic, beauty blogger and industry expert has started to rave about them, and not just jade rollers per se, but gemstone rollers, a range of face rollers made of semi-precious stones that include jade, but also amethyst, obsidian, rose quartz and more. If you haven’t tried using a jade roller, or gemstone roller should I say, you might be wondering what all the fuss is about, after all, do these tools of the trade really deserve a spot in your skincare routine? Especially when you feel overwhelmed with the products and tools you already use! In short though the answer is yes! And we are going to tell you why! Firstly what is a jade roller? A jade roller is a skincare tool made from a smooth, naturally cool gemstone called jade. It typically consists of a larger stone for the cheeks, forehead, and neck, and a smaller stone for more delicate areas like the under-eye and around the nose. But why should you consider adding this seemingly simple tool to your extensive collection of serums and creams? Because of their many benefits…. What are the benefits of using a jade roller? They are an amazing massage tool Facial massage is not only a way to indulge your skin, it also provides skin with numerous benefits. But instead of just using your fingers, what better way to massage your face than with a gemstone roller! The gentle massaging action not only feels amazing (like you’re enjoying a facial in your favourite spa), it also helps stimulate facial muscles (which can help tighten your skin), relieve tension, and improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. They help reduce puffiness The healing properties and natural coolness of the gemstone can help constrict blood vessels, effectively reducing puffiness and inflammation on your face, especially around the eyes and cheeks. No more tired, puffy face in the mornings! They help relieve stress and induce relaxation We all know that stress can take a toll on our skin, leading to breakouts and premature aging. But incorporating a jade roller into your skincare routine can be a game-changer in combating stress. The rhythmic rolling motion helps relax facial muscles, releasing tension and promoting an overall sense of calm. It's like giving your face a mini meditation session! They help boost the effectiveness of your skincare products If you are guilty of investing in expensive skincare products but maybe not seeing the desired results, here's a little secret: gemstone rollers can enhance your product absorption game. After applying your favourite serum, moisturiser or oil, simply roll the gemstone over your skin. The roller's massaging action allows those potent ingredients to penetrate deeper into your skin (really!) maximizing their effectiveness. Hello, glowing and nourished complexion! They help reduce the appearance of fine lines While we can't promise that using a gemstone roller will magically erase all your wrinkles, regular use can improve skin's elasticity, leading to a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles over time. They are a natural and non-invasive approach to younger looking skin In a world full of high-tech skincare gadgets and invasive procedures, gemstone rollers offer a refreshing alternative. They are gentle, natural, and suitable for most skin types. So, whether you have sensitive, oily, or combination skin, you can roll your way to healthier-looking skin without any worry! How to use a jade roller Thinking about incorporating a gemstone roller into your skincare routine? Ensure you use it gently, avoid applying excessive pressure, and clean it regularly to maintain hygiene. For best results, we recommend cleansing your skin first, then applying a small amount of serum or light oil to your skin. Take your jade roller and start at the chin. Using broad, long strokes roll the jade roller horizontally to the hairline - you should apply slight pressure but not so that it is "pulling" your skin. Then, from the nose, gently roll towards the ear - smoothing the skin under the eyes. Moving up, use the small end of the roller around the corner of the eye, rolling to the temples. Last up, place the roller above the eyebrow and push up towards the hairline. You can also finish by rolling horizontally from the middle of the forehead out towards the temples. How often should you use a Facial Roller? You can use a roller every day for optimum results. If there is a day where you feel like your skin is especially puffy, then morning and evening should work wonders! Don’t forget to regularly clean your roller. Since the tools are being used on your face and can easily spread bacteria, clean them with warm water and soap after use and store in a clean, dry place. From depuffing to boosting product absorption, and providing a relaxing experience, gemstone rollers are the perfect addition to your skincare routine. So, next time you're treating yourself to a self-care session, why not add a little jade rolling action to the mix? Your skin will thank you for it! How often you should clean and replace your makeup brushes

by Jo Boyden on Jul 26 2023
We all long for flawless, blemish-free skin no matter our age, so taking care of it daily is essential for keeping breakouts at bay. The majority of us will follow a daily skincare routine, but do we all maintain the tools we use on our skin to ensure they aren’t the cause of any unwanted pimples or other skin irritations? And when I say tools, I’m talking about the ‘tools of the trade’ – aka makeup brushes. When it comes to flawless makeup application, makeup brushes are a must-have. They are an essential tool in every beauty enthusiast's kit! They help us achieve flawless makeup application, enhance our features, and create stunning looks. However, many of us do often overlook a crucial aspect of using makeup brushes – cleaning and replacing them regularly. Proper maintenance of our makeup brushes not only ensures better makeup application but also promotes healthier skin. Keep reading as we explain why you need to keep your brushes clean, how often you should wash your brushes, and when it's time to totally replace them! Why do you need to clean your makeup brushes? If you notice an increase in breakouts or skin irritations, your brushes might be to blame. Dirty brushes can harbor bacteria and nasty stuff that wreak havoc on your skin. Imagine all the makeup residue, oils, and dead skin cells that accumulate on your brushes after each use. If you don't clean them regularly, these impurities can lead to several issues, including:Bacterial buildup - Dirty brushes become a breeding ground for bacteria, leading to breakouts, skin irritations, and infections.Patchy Application - Residue from previous makeup applications can interfere with the colours and textures of new products, leading to uneven and patchy makeup application.Clogged pores - When brushes are not cleaned, they carry excess oils and debris, which can clog your pores and contribute to acne formation.Decreased Brush Performance - Dirty brushes lose their softness and shape, making them less effective in blending and achieving the desired makeup look. But before you freak out and head off on that shopping spree, remember regular cleaning can extend the life of your brushes. How often should you clean your makeup brushes? To prevent bacteria build up and potentially exacerbating any skin issues, make it habit to give your brushes a thorough cleanse. The frequency of cleaning your makeup brushes can depend though on how often you use them and the type of products you apply. As a general rule of thumb if you are using your brushes pretty much daily, follow these guidelines:Foundation brushes and sponges - Since foundation brushes come in direct contact with your skin, they should be cleaned after each use no matter what the foundation. Beauty sponges, like the famous Beauty Blender, should also be washed after every application.Eyeshadow Brushes - If you use eyeshadow brushes daily, it's best to clean them at least once a week. Brushes used with cream eyeshadows may require more frequent cleaning.Blush and Powder Brushes - Brushes used for powder-based products like blush, bronzer, and setting powder should be cleaned every 1-2 weeks.Lip Brushes - Lip brushes should be washed after every use, especially if you work with bold or dark lip colours. How should you clean your makeup brushes? We get it, many of us are time poor and cleaning your brushes might sound like a tedious task, but it really is essential for maintaining their quality and your skin's health. Here are some tips to make the process easier:Use gentle cleansers - Opt for a gentle brush cleanser, baby shampoo, or mild soap to clean your brushes. Harsh chemicals can damage the bristles. If you use a gentle face wash, I also recommend using that too.Warm water rinse - Wet the bristles with warm water to remove excess makeup easily.Avoid soaking the base - When cleaning your brushes, avoid soaking the base of the bristles as this can loosen the glue and cause shedding.Pat dry with a towel - After cleaning, gently pat the brushes with a clean towel and reshape them to retain their original form.Air dry upside down - To prevent water from seeping into the base, dry your brushes upside down or at a slight angle. If you keep them clean, why do you need to replace your makeup brushes? No matter how well you care for your makeup brushes, they won't last forever. Over time, the bristles can become frayed, lose their shape, and fail to perform as they did when new. Here are some signs that indicate it's time to replace your brushes:Shedding - If your brush sheds bristles excessively despite proper care, it's time to invest in a new one.Frayed bristles - Brushes with frayed or splayed bristles won't give you the precise application you desire.Hardened bristles - Over time, some product residues can harden the bristles, making them less effective and potentially abrasive to your skin.Unpleasant smell - If your brushes retain a persistent, unpleasant odor even after cleaning, it's best to replace them.Signs of wear and tear - If you notice visible signs of wear and tear, such as a cracked handle or discoloured bristles, it's time to retire your brush. Remember, investing in high-quality brushes from the get-go can make a huge difference. Not only will they last longer but they’ll also give you better makeup results. Quality brushes tend to have more durable bristles and sturdy handles, making them worth the splurge. We recommend investing in makeup brushes made from allergy free synthetic fibres. Easier to keep clean, less likely to harbour bacteria and ideal for makeup application. Try ELES Cosmetics range of professional makeup brushes. Their smooth synthetic fibres do not absorb or trap pigment making them a breeze to clean! You can purchase them individually dependant on your makeup needs, or shop the full 15 piece collection
dry to dewy skin

From Dry to Dewy: The best skincare routine for Dry Skin

by Jo Boyden on Jul 20 2023
Whether you love or loathe cold, winter weather, there is no mistaking the havoc it can cause on our skin. Ever dealt with (or perhaps currently experiencing) dry, flaky patches? Tightness even? Or perhaps it’s a dull lacklustre complexion you have become accustomed too of late! Well, we are here to tell you how you can transform that dry skin of yours to deliciously dewy in next to no time. All you need to do is follow the right skincare routine for dry skin! And stick to it daily. Morning skincare routine for dry skinWhen it comes to the best skincare routine for dry skin, the products you use in the morning will differ from those you apply at night. First and foremost you want to make sure you build a skincare routine rich in moisture, you need to rehydrate that parched skin of yours, but you want to ensure you then keep it nourished and hydrated too!Step 1 - Hydrating CleanserThe first step in any skincare routine is cleansing, but for us dry-skin folks, it's essential to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser. Look for cleansers with a creamy or oil-based formula that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Harsh, foaming cleansers can be our arch-nemesis, so avoid those like the plague!Try Pevonia Hydrating Cleanser. Thanks to its outstanding combination of marine collagen, marine elastin, hyaluronic acid and glycerin, this nourishing, creamy textured cleanser thoroughly removes skin impurities and excess oil without any residue, all whilst helping to preserve your skin’s moisture too!N.B Exfoliation is essential too as you’ll want to rid your skin of any lingering dry, dead, skin cells to make way for the healthy, new cells patiently waiting underneath! How often you exfoliate will depend on the sensitivity of your skin though, so best to start with once a week and use a gentle exfoliating cleanser. This will keep skin brighter and balanced (without stripping away moisture) and will also assist in products such as your serum being able to fully penetrate your skin for optimal end results.Step 2 - Hyaluronic Acid SerumYou might we wondering if you really need a serum in your skincare routine because doesn’t your moisturiser offer enough nourishment? Well I’m here to tell you how necessary a serum really is! Serums are like a shot for the skin. Firstly they tend to perform above and beyond many regular skincare products, this is because they are developed with a higher concentration of targeted active ingredients. Secondly, the purpose of a serum is to target a specific concern. In our case dryness!Incorporate a hyaluronic acid serum into your morning skincare routine, and your skin will thank you for it! Believe me. Hyaluronic acid is a dry-skin superhero! This moisture-binding ingredient can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, leaving your skin feeling hydrated and plump.Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. The ultimate for seriously thirsty skin, this serum eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dehydrated of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. By adding moisture back into your skin, this serum immediately boosts skin’s suppleness and combats ageing in multiple ways thanks to its skin-plumping properties.Step 3 - Eye CreamIf you have dry skin, it's essential not to forget to incorporate an eye cream into your daily routine. The skin around the eye is some of the most delicate on the body, so it needs that little extra TLC that your moisturiser can not provide. In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage. While you might think your moisturiser will suffice, you’d be wrong! Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients to the skin, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia. A hydrating eye cream can help prevent dryness, nourish already present crepiness, and combat signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, undereye puffiness and dark circles! Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, vitamin c, shea butter, collagen and vitamin B as they will help restore the delicate skin and retain moisture.Try Pevonia Evolutive Eye Cream. This anti-ageing eye cream deeply nourishes and renews the delicate under eye area in multiple ways. Formulated with a powerful blend of anti-agers including hyaluronic acid, vitamin A and glycolic acid, it firms, smooths and hydrates dry, crepey skin.Step 4 - Nourishing MoisturiserA moisturiser not only infuses your skin with hydration but also helps trap in all of the products underneath it to make the ingredients even more effective. When it comes to dry skin, a super nourishing moisturiser rich in specific ingredients such as shea butter, ceramides, glycerin, natural oil (think avocado, jojoba, or rosehip) and hyaluronic acid is a must! It’ll help replenish your skin with the nourishment it craves.Try Phytomer Nutritionnelle Dry Skin Rescue Cream – this is a salvation for even the driest skin, bringing comfort, hydration and protection. Step 5 - SunscreenSunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine, regardless of skin type. Sun damage is the no. 1 cause of premature ageing so what’s the point of spending money on all those anti-ageing skincare products if you undo all the good by not being religious with your sunscreen application! Protecting your skin from sun damage will make all your other skin care products more effective!Choose a lightweight sunscreen that won't clog pores or cause breakouts. Go for a chemical or mineral sunscreen of at least SPF 30 (preferably 50). Sun damage can worsen dryness, so don't forget this crucial step, even on cloudy days.Try ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50+ It’s super lightweight and full of great ingredients that prevent hyper-pigmentation and dehydration. It also gives you a bit of glow which is a bonus that many sunscreens don’t provide.Step 6 - Facial MistFor that extra boost of cooling hydration and to lock in all those skincare ingredients throughout the day a facial mist is a must!Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist This product is a dream. It provides the perfect spritz to replenish tired, dry or tight skin. As well as Hyaluronic Acid, it’s formulated with a blend of ultra-calming Chamomile, Aloe, Green Tea and aromatic essential oils, making this powerhouse product ideal for all skin types, especially dehydrated, irritated, and ageing skin! However should your skin be on the sensitive side, a little itchy or irritated even, it will work its magic to calm, nurture and alleviate too. Night skincare routine for dry skin Step 1 - CleanserFirst thing you’ll likely want to do (and should do) after a long day is remove the days makeup and grime from your face with a good cleanser or face wash. Should you wish to double cleanse, you can do that too!Try using an oil cleanser first followed by a cream cleanser to refresh your skin and leave a dewy finish.Step 2 - Hydrating TonerFollow your face wash with a hydrating toner. Unfortunately, toners are often the forgotten skincare product, usually because people don’t understand their purpose, but they are in fact an essential product in any skincare routine! Why? Because a good toner will not only remove any excess makeup and grime that your cleanser might have missed but it will also prep your skin for the goodness that follows (we are talking ingredients in the rest of your skin care routine!) The best toner for dry skin will pump up hydration but also restore skin, balance pH too.Opt for an alcohol-free, hydrating toner that contains ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin to lock in moisture as well as plump up your skin. Pat it on gently with your hands or use a soft cotton pad.Try Pevonia Hydrating Toner – Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice, and Vitamin E, it works to hydrate, revive and fully refresh the skin. Great for anyone with worried about ageing, dehydration or devitalised skin. Step 3 – face mask With so many steps in your daily skincare routine, you might be wondering if masking is really another necessary step, after all, what more can this product do for your skin that your cleanser, toner, exfoliator, serum and moisturiser hasn’t already done? Well, the answer to that is a lot actually! Face masks are in fact an essential part of any skin care routine, and for very good reason. Not only do they help protect your skin from environmental pollutants and other irritants, but they also help to keep skin looking and feeling healthy. They are also a great way to give your skin a boost of nourishment and help to target any skin concerns you may have too., dry skin in this case!Treat yourself to a hydrating face mask once or twice a week. Sheet masks, gel masks and cream masks formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and jojoba oil can work wonders for dry skin. Sit back, relax, and let the mask work its magic!Try Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin Mask. This revitalizing and nourishing mask takes its inspiration from mesotherapy to visibly revitalize the skin. How to stop makeup from creasing under your eyes

by Jo Boyden on Jun 22 2023
Makeup creasing under my eyes is a pet hate of mine. We want to conceal those fine lines and dark under eye circles, but why does the concealer that’s supposed to help conceal, end up creasing and in turn exacerbating undereye signs of ageing!?Well if you are tired of dealing with those pesky creases under your eyes, ruining your flawless makeup look and well ageing you, you’ve come to the right place! Keep reading for the best tips and tricks so those under eye creases are no more! Hydrate and prep Before you even think about reaching for your makeup, it's crucial to hydrate and prep your under-eye area properly. Well-hydrated skin is more supple and less prone to creasing. Start by gently cleansing your skin, next apply a lightweight, nourishing eye cream (using an eye cream instead of your everyday moisturiser is imperative as it’s been specifically formulated for the delicate under-eye area.)To learn more about why you should use an eye cream instead of your moisturiser click here.Allow eye cream to absorb fully before moving on to the next step.Try: Age Correction Eye Contour. This power repair eye contour gives tired, ageing eyes the burst of hydration they need! Deeply nourishing thanks to its combination of marine collagen, marine elastin and hyaluronic acid, it targets signs of fatigue, visibly reducing puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles. What more could you want? It’s time to prime A good primer is a game-changer when it comes to your makeup! Creating an extra layer between your skin and makeup, primers are used to plump fine lines, blur blemishes, smooth skin, and help makeup last all day without caking, creasing or the need for constant touch-ups. They really are key to achieving smooth, flawless skin that’s perfectly prepped for your concealer and foundation!Look for a primer rich in nourishing vitamins and silica. Silica is a multi-functional ingredient and acts as an absorbing agent, and anti-creasing and caking agent!Apply a small amount onto your under-eye area and blend it in gently with your ring finger. This will help create a smooth surface for your concealer and eyeshadow.Try: ELES Retexturizing Face Primer. Not only does this soothing, lightweight serum feel like actual silk on your skin, it basically helps protect, condition, smooth and blur out skin imperfections too! Want to look like a filtered goodness, and have makeup last the distance, try this! Choose the correct concealer A good concealer will be your best friend when it comes to camouflaging dark circles! There are however a myriad of concealers out there, and selecting the right one is crucial when it comes to preventing under-eye creasing. Opt for a hydrating, lightweight, liquid or cream formula that has been specifically formulated for the delicate under-eye area. Avoid thick and heavy formulas, as they tend to settle into fine lines and creases. It's also essential to choose a shade that matches your skin tone, as a lighter shade can actually accentuate creases.Try ELES Dual Action Concealer, you won’t be disappointed! Now you need to apply it correctly While it very tempting to layer on that concealer to mask those dark circles, piling it on is the number one cause of creasing (and caking!) You need to instead apply sparingly! Firstly dot the concealer under your eyes, then use a small concealer brush or your fingertips, to gently blend it into the skin. Just remember, how you apply your concealer plays a vital role in preventing creasing! Make sure you blend the concealer evenly, paying attention to the inner corners and the outer edges. And try to avoid any excessive tugging or pulling at the skin too, as this can exacerbate the appearance of wrinkles and contribute to creasing. Set your makeup Setting your makeup is a crucial step to prevent creasing. After you've applied your concealer and finished your eye makeup, lightly dust a small amount of translucent powder over the under-eye area. Be careful not to go overboard with the powder, as excessive product can settle into lines and create a cakey appearance. Using a powder brush, gently press the powder onto the skin instead of swiping it.Try: ELES HD Translucent Powder. This 100% mineral silica powder mattifies the skin without caking or creasing, and softens the appearance of imperfections. It also absorbs any unwanted excess oil. Bonus! Avoid excess moisture Throughout the day, excess moisture can cause your makeup to crease. To combat this, gently blot your under-eye area with a tissue or blotting paper to remove any excess oil or sweat. Remember to pat instead of rubbing to avoid disrupting your makeup. Touch up strategically If you notice any creasing or fading throughout the day, don't fret! Instead of piling on more product, opt for a targeted touch-up. Gently dab a tiny amount of concealer onto the creased area using your ring finger and blend it in carefully. This method will help freshen up your makeup without creating a cakey or heavy look. Now you're armed with the knowledge and tips to keep those annoying under-eye creases at bay!

If you read our blog, you’ll know me well, I’ve been answering your burning questions, talking about the latest trends and writing about all things beauty for years now. In fact I’ve been working at Beauty Collective as their Marketing, PR and Content Manager for 15 years, and have been in the industry for 22! (Eek that makes me sound old!) In that time I have had the fortune (yes I’m very lucky) to trial many a makeup and skincare product, from the newest formulations, to the beauty classics that have stood the test of time! And while it’s always exciting to get my hands on the latest launches, there are certain products I can’t get enough of, the ones I go back to time and time again – all because they keep my thirsty and 43-year-old skin looking younger! Without wearing it, and I’m talking every. single. day (yep even in winter) you will age prematurely! There is no doubt about that. The thing is soo many sunscreens feel greasy, don’t smell great or simply don’t sit well on our skin, and then there are those thick white sunscreens that look like a thick paste so it’s not surprising that many of us shy away from wearing this essential product daily! The great news is my first recommendation isn’t any of those things. Makeup for the over 40’s: How to prep skin for a flawless finish

by Jo Boyden on Jun 15 2023
As we age, our once smooth and plump skin starts to dramatically change, we experience loss of elasticity, increased dryness, fine lines and wrinkles and age spots. Some of us even become more prone to blemishes and breakouts (eek!) But this doesn’t mean we can’t rock a stunning makeup look like we once did! It just means we need to change tactics. Preparing mature skin for makeup requires a somewhat different approach to ensure we can still achieve that much desired flawless and radiance look! Read on as we talk skin prep for the over 40’s, including tips and techniques to help keep makeup looking natural and fresh all day long! Start skin prep with a thorough cleanse Before you begin your makeup routine, it’s crucial that skin is cleansed thoroughly. You want to make sure any impurities, excess oil or residual makeup even, has been removed so that your makeup adheres to your skin better, and lasts longer! Look for a hydrating cleanser specifically designed to target ageing skin, or a gentle creamy cleanser if your skin tends to be on the more sensitive side.We highly recommend Pevonia’s Hydrating CleanserN.B remember regular exfoliation is also important as it can help promote cell turnover and improve the texture of mature skin. Exfoliate once or twice weekly with a gentle exfoliating cleanser. If you have sensitive skin and wish to steer clear of physical exfoliators (exfoliators with the “bits” in them) try a chemical of enzyme exfoliator. We can’t get enough of Phytomer’s Vegetal Exfoliant with Natural Enzymes Hydration, Hydration, Hydration If we are talking makeup application for the over 50’s (over 40’s even) the most imperative step in prepping skin, is to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! For that flawless makeup finish we all want to achieve, you need to create the perfect canvas, and you can’t do that if your skin is patchy and parched (which sadly is a thing as we age). Invest in a high-quality serum and moisturiser that will nourish and plumps the skin. Look for products containing hyaluronic acid, ceramides and antioxidants to boost hydration and combat signs of ageing. Using a gemstone facial roller be extremely beneficial too.Additionally, consider using a hydrating facial mist rich in hyaluronic acid to boost hydration levels throughout the day.We love Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist Don’t forget your sunscreen Next. it’s time for the sunscreen. No matter what your age, sunscreen is a non-negotiable! You can spend all the money in the world on skincare, but if you don’t use it in conjunction with sunscreen you may as well be pouring it down the drain!A great option for sunscreen for mature skin is ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day protection SPF 50. Primer is a must A primer can work wonders for mature skin by filling in fine lines and wrinkles, blurring imperfections, and ensuring longer-lasting makeup. In fact I’d safely save it will become your secret weapon when it comes to prepping mature skin for makeup. Look for a silicone-based primer that offers a smoothing effect without clogging pores. Apply it evenly to your face after moisturizing, focusing on areas prone to fine lines, such as around the eyes and mouth. We LOVE ELES’s range of face primers. For mature skin we highly recommend ELES Retexture Crème Face Primer Choose the Right Foundation Choosing the right foundation for mature skin can make a world of difference. You might well be a fan of matte foundations, but generally heavy matte formulas can settle into creases, accentuating dry patches and fine lines! As we age it’s better to opt for lightweight, hydrating foundations with a dewy or satin finish. Additionally, consider using a colour-correcting foundation to counteract any redness or discoloration like ELES Luminous CC Cream 20 (which has the added bonus of sunscreen! What’s more! For the month of June, when you purchase an ELES Luminous CC Cream 20 or best-selling Age-Defying BB Cream 30 you’ll receive a FREE Sheet Mask. Plus you get to choose from one of three sheet masks specifically designed to counteract ageing – Youth Recovery, Calming and Soothing or Hydrating and Brightening. Concealing and Highlighting A good concealer will be your best friend when it comes to camouflaging dark circles, ages spots or any areas of your face that needs that little bit of extra coverage. To address these issues, choose a creamy, hydrating concealer and make sure it matches your skin tone. Apply it sparingly with a small brush or your fingertips, gently blending it into the skin. Make sure you avoid any excessive tugging or pulling, as it can exacerbate the appearance of wrinkles.Try ELES Dual Action Concealer, you won’t be disappointed!N.B For a youthful, lifted effect, apply a light-reflecting concealer or highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes, brow bone, and cheekbones. Set Makeup with a Finishing Powder To prolong the longevity of your makeup without sacrificing the dewy finish, lightly dust a translucent powder only on areas prone to excess oil, such as the T-zone. Avoid applying it to drier areas, as it can accentuate fine lines. Use a fluffy brush for a light application, ensuring your skin retains its natural radiance.Try ELES NEW Translucent Powder Always add colour for that youthful healthy glow Another sign of ageing is a dull and uneven complexion! Cue the magic of a good blush and/or bronzer. Simple apply a subtle blush shade to the apples of your cheeks for that youthful flushed affect and lightly dust bronzer along your cheekbones and temples to add warmth and dimension.Choose shades that complement your skin tone and always remember less is more! Create mature eyes that pop For your eyes, keep it simple and elegant. Use neutral eyeshadows that enhance your natural beauty. Avoid heavy or overly shimmery shadows, as they can emphasize creases. A soft, smudged eyeliner and a few coats of mascara will define your eyes without overpowering them. Also line the inner rim of your lower lash line or waterline as it’s otherwise known with a white pencil a waterline liner! (We recommend ELES’s Waterline liner). By doing so it’ll immediately open up your eyes as well as make the whites of your eyes look whiter (synonymous with younger looking eyes!)For more on ageing eyes and the best tips and tricks to care for them click here. Complete the look with luscious lips As we age our lips loose their colour and get thinner and dryer too! so you’ll want to be armed with a good hydrating and volumizing lip product like ELES Velvet Satin Lipstick.Choose colours that flatter your complexion and make you feel happy and confident.Remember, the key to flawless makeup is not only the products you use but also the techniques you employ. Be gentle with your skin, blend your products seamlessly and never overdo your makeup.
