Hormonal acne explained: Causes, tips and the best skincare

by Jo Boyden on May 22 2026
There’s nothing quite as frustrating as waking up, looking in the mirror, and seeing a blemish that has literally appeared out of nowhere overnight! Especially when you thought your breakout days were left behind in your teenage years! The thing is hormonal acne doesn’t just affect teenagers, it’s incredibly common in adulthood too, particularly in our late 30s, 40s and beyond. The tricky part is that hormonal acne is very different from a standard breakout, and because it can be so stubborn, it needs a more thoughtful approach than simply trying to “dry it out”. Instead, the key is to support the skin with gentle, targeted care that helps calm inflammation, protect the skin barrier and keep breakouts under control. Keep reading as we share the best professional skincare tips, ingredients, and expert-approved products to help keep stubborn hormonal breakouts at bay and your skin looking healthier, calmer, and more balanced!   How do you know it’s hormonal acne? Hormonal breakouts are often linked to changes in hormones that can affect oil production and inflammation in the skin. It commonly shows up as deep, tender spots, recurring breakouts or congestion that tends to cluster along the chin, jawline and lower cheeks, and occasionally the neck. This is distinctly different from congestion related acne which tends to appear across the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin.)  For many people, hormonal acne flares a week or so before a period, due to hormonal shifts. As oestrogen (the “female” hormone) levels drop, androgens (“male” hormones) have a relatively stronger effect on the skin often increasing oil production and congestion, which can lead to your skin breaking out. Hormonal acne also flares during other hormonal shifts such as stress, pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause!   The best skincare ingredients for hormonal acne The goal with hormonal acne is to keep the skin barrier strong and supported, target active breakouts and calm the inflammation that drives the redness and pain. Some of the most effective ingredients include: Salicylic & lactic acids to help clear pores and reduce congestion. Niacinamide to calm redness and balance oil Clay & charcoal to detoxify pores and absorb excess oil Hyaluronic acid for lightweight hydration Vitamin A and retinol alternatives to support skin renewal Soothing botanicals to reduce irritation   The best routine for hormonal acne Because hormonal acne tends to be deeper and more persistent than the occasional blemish, it often responds best to a routine that is both targeted and gentle. A simple routine is often the best place to start when treating hormonal acne. One of the biggest mistakes people make is over-cleansing or using harsh products that leave the skin feeling tight and dry. When the skin barrier becomes compromised, it can trigger even more oil production and irritation! Instead, it’s best to choose professional skincare that deeply cleanses without stripping the skin and focus on maintaining hydration and balance. Remember also that consistency is key, hormonal acne rarely improves overnight, but gentle, targeted skincare can help visibly improve the skin over time.   1. Choose a gentle, purifying cleanser You want to opt for a cleanser that removes excess oil, sunscreen and impurities while clearing out dead skin cells without stripping your skin and leaving your face feeling tight or dry. Remember over-cleansing can irritate the barrier and make breakouts feel worse. Our recommendation: Medicalia Clarifying Cleanser Specifically created for those with breakout prone and sensitive/oily skin, it’s formulated with both Salicylic and Lactic acids to gently but effectively unclog pores and soften skin while improving clarity! Its potent foaming suds work very quickly to eliminate surface bacteria, toxins, impurities and makeup while combatting inflammation too! “I’ve been using this cleanser for a year now. Keeps my sebaceous filaments in check and has helped control my hormonal acne better than any other cleanser I’ve used.” – Sophie H 2. Use targeted treatments that balance oil production This is where actives can be helpful. Specific ingredients can support clearer-looking skin while helping to calm inflammation. To tackle the stubborn hormonal acne you’re experiencing, look for a targeted serum that helps balance excess oil production, calm redness and irritation, and support the skin’s natural healing process without over-drying the skin. Our recommendation: Pevonia Soothing Propolis Concentrate This is one of BC’s best-selling serums and it’s a particular favourite for hormonal breakouts because of its extraordinary natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Propolis is a resinous compound produced by bees that has been used medicinally for thousands of years and in skincare, it’s one of the most effective naturally derived antibacterial actives available. Applied to the skin, Propolis helps reduce the bacteria that colonise clogged pores and contribute to inflammatory breakouts. It calms redness and swelling around active spots, speeds up the skin’s healing process and helps prevent new breakouts from forming! Amazing right? And unlike harsh antiseptic actives, it does all of this without disrupting the skin barrier or causing dryness! Now you can see why it’s a Pevonia favourite. What makes it particularly useful for hormonal acne though is that it can be used as a preventative applied consistently during the week or two before your period when you know breakouts are likely, it helps minimise the severity of what appears and speeds up recovery when blemishes do develop. “I love this product, i bought it while i was pregnant and had severe hormonal acne and it seemed to calm and soothe my skin and reduced the "angriness" of my skin!” – Melinda I 4. Support skin healing & hydration It’s a myth that oily and acne prone skin doesn’t need nourishment! A common mistake people with acne make is skipping moisturiser because your skin feels oily. By doing so your skin will become dehydrated, go into panic mode and actually product more oil to compensate! You just need an oil-free, healing moisturiser. Our Recommendation: Medicalia Clarifying Cream This lightweight, fast absorbing clarifying moisturiser is ideal for hormonal acne-prone skin because it delivers hydration without feeling heavy, greasy, or pore-clogging. Formulated with salicylic and glycolic acids it helps calm congestion, rebalance excess oil, and support the skin barrier. It also works to keep skin feeling hydrated, soothed, and healthier-looking while helping reduce the appearance of redness and breakouts. What makes it especially great for hormonal acne is that it helps nourish and comfort stressed, inflamed skin without overloading it (something many richer creams can do!) The result? Skin feels more balanced, less irritated, and better supported overall, with a clearer, calmer-looking complexion over time. “it's expensive but it's been a lifesaver for my acne prone skin! I've noticed it helps keep my sebaceous filaments in check also.” – Sophie H 5. At night, use a “cell turnover” treatment Because hormonal acne is often linked to congestion, excess oil, and trapped dead skin cells, encouraging your skin to renew itself more effectively is essential. Overnight treatments that support healthy cell turnover can help keep pores clearer, improve skin texture, and reduce the appearance of persistent breakouts over time. Our recommendation: Medicalia Retinol & 'C' Care Retinol is considered the gold standard for acne-prone skin because it helps speed up cell turnover, keeping pores clearer and reducing congestion. Combined with Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides and Vitamin C, it also helps to brighten the skin and fade the lingering red or brown post-breakout marks that blemishes often leave behind. 6. Don’t forget SPF Daily sun protection is essential, especially if you are using active ingredients that may make your skin more sensitive. A good SPF helps protect your skin while you work on improving its overall condition. Our recommendation: Hubislab Herb 8 Soothing Blemish Balm SPF30 PA++ - 50g Formulated with Zinc Oxide, SPF30 broad-spectrum filters, and Hubislab’s signature Anti Toxin Herb 8 complex, this soothing sunscreen designed for sensitive skin works to alleviate irritation, calm redness, support skin recovery, and strengthen the skin barrier! It’s your SPF and skin treatment in one! 7. Once a week apply a mask Adding a weekly mask into your skincare routine can make a huge difference when it comes to managing hormonal breakouts. Masks help give the skin a deeper clean while targeting excess oil, congestion, and inflammation, all without needing to overload your skin with harsh daily treatments! Use a detoxifying or clarifying mask to help absorb excess oil, decongest pores, and calm inflammation, especially in the lead-up to your period when hormonal breakouts often flare. Our recommendation: Pevonia Pure Skin Charcoal Mask This purifying charcoal and clay mask is ideal for oily, congested, and breakout-prone skin. It helps draw out impurities, absorb excess oil, and leave the skin feeling clearer, smoother, and more balanced without stripping away essential moisture. It’s the perfect weekly reset for skin that feels congested, inflamed, or prone to stubborn hormonal breakouts. “Being in my 50's I wasn't sure if this would dry my skin out, but I bought it coz I had a few breakouts - hormonal I guess. I've used it daily for about 3 days and it's totally cleared my skin up - it feels de-congested, clear and smooth. I love this mask.” – Melinda Hopkins The lifestyle habits that can actually make a difference too Skincare can manage the symptoms of hormonal acne beautifully but if you want to address the root cause as well, these lifestyle factors are worth taking seriously: Avoid picking or squeezing breakouts Because hormonal blemishes are deep, picking or squeezing them (even though tempting) won't bring them to a head. Picking often leads to more inflammation and can increase the risk of marks or scarring. Track your cycle If you notice your skin flares up a week before your period, you can adjust your skincare a few days early to include more purifying, anti-inflammatory ingredients as a preventative step. Reduce your dairy and sugar intake While diet doesn't cause acne, high-sugar foods and dairy can cause spikes in insulin and inflammation, which can worsen hormonal flares. Reducing high-glycaemic foods is actually one of the most evidence-backed dietary changes for hormonal acne. Swapping refined carbohydrates and sugars for whole grains, vegetables and protein helps stabilise blood sugar and reduce androgen activity. Focus on stress management Stress is actually one of the biggest contributors to hormonal breakouts! This is because stress releases a hormone called cortisol, which directly tells your skin to produce more oil leading to inflammation and flare ups! Believe me we know saying manage your stress is easier said than done! But something as simple as medication, listening to music, breathing mindfully and exercising (even if it’s a walk) can help regulate cortisol levels. Also never underestimate the power of a calming self-care ritual! And a good night's sleep (7 to 9 hours nine hours is not a luxury for acne-prone skin, it’s part of the treatment!) Consider spearmint tea There is actually meaningful clinical evidence that spearmint tea has mild anti-androgenic properties. Two cups a day has been shown in small studies to reduce hormonal acne. It’s not a miracle cure but it’s a pleasant, zero-risk addition to a management approach. Talk to your GP or dermatologist If your hormonal acne is severe, cystic or significantly affecting your quality of life, please seek professional medical advice. There are effective medical interventions available, from oral contraceptives to spironolactone, that work alongside good skincare.   Hormonal acne can take time to improve, so consistency is essential. Rather than attacking the skin with aggressive products, focus on supporting and strengthening the skin barrier while using targeted ingredients that help reduce congestion and inflammation over time. With the right skincare routine, professional advice, and healthy lifestyle habits, hormonal acne can absolutely become more manageable.

Adult Acne Solutions: Tried-and-tested treatments that work

by Jo Boyden on May 16 2025
Unfortunately, acne isn’t just a teenage problem like many of us may have once thought! It can be frustrating reality for adults too. Whether it's caused by hormones, stress, diet, or environmental factors, adult acne can be stubborn and challenging to treat. But if you’re currently dealing with this skin condition and looking for solutions that work, we are here to tell you they do exist! Whether you're dealing with persistent pimples, hormonal flare-ups, or the occasional breakout, keep reading for the most effective, tried-and-tested treatments for clear, calm skin!   Understanding adult acne – why you’re prone to it Before we discuss the best treatments, it's crucial to understand the reasons for adult acne. These are the main contributors; Hormonal Fluctuations Like in your teens, hormonal fluctuations are a major culprit when it comes to acne in adulthood! Especially in women due to menstrual cycles, pregnancy, perimenopause, and hormonal imbalances. Hormones can cause havoc with our skin by increasing oil production, clogging pores, and triggering inflammation leading to breakouts, especially around the jawline and chin. Stress Unfortunately, our busy lives can lead to increased stress levels. Stress in turn triggers hormonal changes, particularly cortisol spikes, which increase oil production, inflammation, and breakouts making adult acne more frequent and stubborn. Skincare Habits Using the wrong products, over-exfoliating, or not cleansing properly can contribute to breakouts. Diet While not a direct cause for everyone, certain foods can exacerbate acne in some people. High-glycaemic foods such as dairy, and processed items can spike insulin, triggering excess oil and breakouts. Environmental pollution Dirt and toxins on our skin from pollution can further contribute to the problem. It clogs pores causing inflammation and breakouts. Antioxidant-rich foods like berries, leafy greens, and nuts help defend skin.   What type of acne do you suffer from? Acne comes in many forms! To find out all about the most common ones and which you might be struggling with click here.   Key ingredients that work to fight acne Certain powerhouse ingredients have been clinically proven to combat acne, these include; Salicylic Acid This oil-soluble beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) can penetrate pores to exfoliate inside and out, helping to unclog them and reduce inflammation preventing further breakouts. Listen to your skin: Pay attention to how your skin reacts to different products and adjust your routine accordingly. Avoid product-hopping though and always patch-test new treatments first. Manage stress: Since stress aggravates acne, practices like meditation, exercise, and better sleep can make a difference. Maintain a healthy diet and stay hydrated: Cutting back on sugar and dairy may help some people minimize breakouts. Staying hydrated flushes toxins and supports skin health. How to treat adult acne: The skincare line that actually works

How to treat adult acne: The skincare line that actually works

by Jo Boyden on Jan 24 2025
Find yourself suddenly dealing with adult acne? The unexpected breakouts, stubborn spots, irritated skin? Believe me when I say you are not alone! Here at BC we get customers asking us why they might be suffering from acne in their 40’s and beyond all the time as well as the best solutions. Well, we can’t recommend enough a new (tried-and-tested by us) collection from Pevonia that tackles adult acne head-on while being kind to your skin! Whether your breakouts are stress-related, hormonal, or perhaps genetic, this routine will make a huge difference to your skin and your confidence! Cue Pevonia’s ProCorrective Line, a game-changing solution for tackling adult acne at its root!   Firstly, why are you suffering from adult acne? Adult acne can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you thought breakouts were a thing of the past! Unlike teenage breakouts though, adult acne often stems from a combination of factors from hormone changes to stress to genetics to pollution and more! Hormonal fluctuations often play a big part in adult acne though, whether it be during menstruation, pregnancy, perimenopause or menopause, this is because it can increase oil production leading to clogged pores which can trigger breakouts. Androgens, particularly testosterone, stimulate oil glands, worsening breakouts. These hormonal shifts also increase inflammation and disrupt the skin's barrier, making it more prone to bacterial overgrowth and persistent blemishes! Stress, which many of us adults can feel on a daily basis! Elevates cortisol levels, stimulating oil glands and worsening acne. And then there are the environmental factors like pollution or bacteria from touching your face which may clog pores, while certain skincare or makeup products can exacerbate the issue. Unfortunately what we eat and drink can also play a role, with high-glycemic foods and dairy potentially contributing! And then of course there are genetics (thanks parents!) and underlying medical conditions, such as hormonal imbalances or PCOS which can further increase the likelihood of adult acne. Eek!   Why Choose the Pevonia ProCorrective Line? Whatever your reason for suffering from adult acne, following a targeted skincare routine can make all the difference. And we might indeed be biased but Pevonia’s ProCorrective is one of the best targeted adult acne lines on the market especially when it comes to hormonal acne! 12 steps to minimise large pores: Your ultimate guide

12 steps to minimise large pores: Your ultimate guide

by Jo Boyden on Dec 06 2024
If you’re one of the many blessed with oily skin, you might find your struggling with large pores too, especially as the weather is heating up and oil production can go into overdrive! That said, large pores are one of the most common (and searched) skin concerns affecting people of all ages and skin types (not just oily skin). They can make your skin appear uneven, textured, or oily, leaving many of us wondering what exactly is causing them and how we can reduce their size stat! Keep reading as we reveal the reasons behind your large pores and, more importantly, how you can minimize their appearance with targeted products and expert tips too!   So, why do you have large pores? Believe it or not there are actually many reasons your pores might be a lot larger than you’d like! Excess oil production Pores are essential for releasing oil (sebum) to keep your skin moisturised. However, overactive sebaceous glands can cause pores to stretch, making them appear larger. Oily skin types are particularly prone to this issue. Clogged pores When oil mixes with dirt, makeup, and dead skin cells, it can clog pores, causing them to expand. This can lead to blackheads and a bumpy skin texture Loss of collagen and elastin As you age, your skin loses collagen and elastin, which are responsible for keeping it firm and tight. With less support, pores may appear more prominent. Sun damage Prolonged exposure to UV rays breaks down collagen and thickens the skin, stretching out pores over time. Genetics Yes you can thank your parents for those unruly large pores of yours! Your skin type and pore size are largely determined by your genetics. If your family has visible pores, chances are you will too. Improper skincare routine Using the wrong skincare products or skipping essential steps like cleansing can exacerbate the appearance of enlarged pores.   How to minimize large pores While you can’t actually change your pore size completely (thanks to genetics), you can take steps to minimize their appearance and achieve a smoother, healthier-looking complexion; 1. Cleanse thoroughly Keeping your pores clean really is the first step to minimising their appearance. This means using a gentle cleanser specific to your skin type both morning and night to effectively remove oil, dirt, sunscreen and makeup. If your skin is combination to oily, it’s best to opt for gel or foaming cleaners, if your skin tends to be on the sensitive side, there are some amazing sensitive skin cream cleansers for that too! Specific ingredients will make a big difference to the appearance of your pore size too. Cleansers formulated with AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) such as Citric Acid, Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid, and/or BHA’s (Beta Hydroxy Acids) such as Salicylic acid can make all the difference! While all four acids exfoliate on a cellular level, Glycolic, Citric and Lactic works on a more surface level to brighten and smooth your skin, whereas Salicylic Acid penetrates much deeper to effectively remove dead skin cells clogged in pores. We highly recommend Vie Collection Cleansing Gel with Glycolic, Lactic and Salicylic Acids. This foaming cleansing gel combines glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids to stimulate cellular activity, break the intercellular glue between dead cells and thoroughly cleanse skin. Remember harsh cleansers can strip your skin of its natural oils, causing your pores to become larger so do consider which cleaner is right for your skin!   2. Exfoliate Regularly When it comes to large pores, exfoliation is paramount! You want to ensure pores are unclogged to prevent further stretching, and exfoliating effectively removes dead skin cells and prevents pore-clogging buildup. Try Pure Balance Papaya Enzyme Peeling Wash. This plant enzyme-based deep cleanser formulated with natural papaya extract dissolves easily in cold water and eliminates dead skin cells without irritation, breaking down proteins to produce peptone, which washes away dirt and sebum within the pores without irritation. Tip: Exfoliate 1–3 times per week based on your skin type.   3. Incorporate retinol into your routine Believe me when I say retinol is a game-changer for pore refinement. A good retinol serum will boost cell turnover and collagen production, which tightens the skin around pores. Just remember though if you haven’t used retinol before you’ll want to introduce it slowly and at night to avoid any irritation. For more information on retinol click here.   4. Use Clay Masks Who doesn’t love a good mask and clay masks are no exception. In fact clay masks will absorb excess oil and draw out impurities from pores when applied. For a real deep clean use your clay mask once or twice a week. And look for masks that specifically have kaolin or bentonite clay. We love Phytomer CityLife Radiance Reviving Mask  This unique cream-mousse mask instantly counters dehydration, signs of fatigue, dark spots and enlarged pores. Combining 100% natural red and white clays, blue microalgae, red algae and a comprehensive depolluting complex of 3 marine sugars, it reveals luminosity, radiance and refined pores after just one application!   5. Hydrate Wisely Dehydrated skin can overcompensate by producing more oil, in turn worsening the appearance of your pores! Be sure to use lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturisers rich in hyaluronic acid, not heavy, greasy creams that could potentially clog your pores. We love: Hubislab Moisture Max Hydro Cream. It’s a powerful, fast-acting moisturiser that quickly locks in hydration while soothing skin. Formulated with a unique blend of hyaluronic compounds that work to form a protective moisture barrier, its lightweight texture provides a primer-like finish without any greasiness! 6. Protect Your Skin with Sunscreen UV damage breaks down collagen and makes pores look larger so you need to be armed with a good broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and apply every single morning. Try to minimise sun exposure too and always wear a hat!   7. Use pore-minimizing products As well as your hydrating moisturiser and retinol serum, we recommend you invest in products specifically designed to refine pores too like Pevonia’s Age Correction Micro-Pores Refine Cream. it’s a mattifying treatment cream that minimizes pores by combining cutting-edge natural actives like red clover extract and retinol to regulate oil production and refine skin texture. This lightweight cream also hydrates while delivering antioxidants, leaving your skin smoother, balanced, and visibly clearer with regular use. 8. Avoid squeezing or picking pimples from clogged pores It’s tempting to squeeze clogged pores, but this can damage the skin and make pores appear larger. Use proper skincare tools or visit a professional for extractions.   9. Use a primer before applying makeup A good primer will become your lifeline if you are prone to enlarged pores. Not only will it stop your foundation from sliding off your face quite literally, it’ll keep your base smooth while reducing the appearance of pores (and fine lines!) if you are a sufferer of oily skin and pores on the, let’s say slightly larger side! Our recommended go-to is the ELES Pore Perfecting Face Primer. It’s oil-free (of course), perfectly lightweight and seems to combat shine almost instantly. It contains a natural Dermat Complex which enables it to absorb oil and effectively reduce pore size in one hit.   10. Choose your makeup wisely Unfortunately, our makeup can make pores seem bigger than they actually are. Products like our powders and foundation can settle into our pores over the course of the day, making them appear larger, so your best bet because, let’s face it we aren’t going to want to forego our miraculous makeup, is opt for mineral products! A huge benefit of using mineral makeup is that it’s non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores! We love ELES Cosmetics range of mineral formulations. Try the best-selling Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation or if you’re a lover of powder foundations we highly recommend the Mineral Powder Foundation.   11. Give professional treatments a go if you are really concerned about your pore size, professional in-salon treatments can deliver dramatic results. Treatments such as chemical peels exfoliate intensively and deeply to unclog and refine pores. Microneedling boosts collagen production for firmer, smoother skin. And laser therapy reduces oil production and tightens skin.   12. Be Consistent Achieving smoother skin takes time. Stick to a routine and give products time to work, remember consistency is key to long-term improvement!   While you can’t change your pore size, you can control how they look by keeping them clean, unclogged, and supported with the right skincare routine. With a mix of at-home care and professional treatments, your pores can go from prominent to practically invisible.
Salicylic acid: What is it and how will it benefit your skin

Salicylic acid: What is it and how will it benefit your skin

by Jo Boyden on Aug 17 2024
Whether you’re battling breakouts, dealing with oily skin, or just looking for a way to keep your complexion clear, you’ll want to ensure salicylic acid is an ingredient in your skincare! But what exactly is salicylic acid? And how does it transform you skin? Keep reading for everything you need to know about salicylic acid—why it’s so effective, how to use it, and why it deserves a spot in your skincare routine. What is salicylic acid? Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) known for its exfoliating and anti-inflammatory properties, commonly used in skincare. it penetrates deep into the pores, dissolving excess oil and exfoliating dead skin cells. This helps prevent and treat breakouts, blackheads, and whiteheads. Unlike some harsher acne treatments, salicylic acid is gentle yet effective, making it suitable for frequent use (we are talking 2-3 times a week). Incorporating salicylic acid into your skincare routine can lead to clearer, smoother skin! How does salicylic acid work? By breaking down the bonds between dead skin cells, salicylic acid encourages their shedding, which helps to prevent pore blockages that lead to breakouts. Is salicylic acid suitable for all skin types? Salicylic acid is ideal for those with oily or acne-prone skin, as it helps control excess oil production and prevents the formation of new pimples. However, it can also benefit other skin types, particularly those who are susceptible to the occasional breakout or congested skin. Can salicylic acid cause skin irritation? Salicylic acid can sometimes cause skin irritation, especially if you use it excessively or tend to have sensitive skin.  Common signs of irritation include redness, dryness, peeling, or a burning sensation. Just before you test the product first before applying all over your face. How often should you use salicylic acid? How often you use skincare formulated with salicylic acid really depends on the product itself as well your skin specific skin type. If you are new to salicylic acid, we recommend you start with using it once or twice a week and gradually increase to daily use if your skin tolerates it. It's also important to follow up with a good moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated. Can you use salicylic acid with other skincare ingredients? Yes, you can use salicylic acid with other skincare ingredients, but it's important to be cautious. Combining salicylic acid with soothing and hydrating ingredients like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, can work wonders for your skin. However, be careful when combining it with other exfoliants like glycolic acid or retinol, as this can increase the risk of irritation. It's best to introduce these ingredients gradually into your routine or use them on alternate days to avoid over-exfoliating your skin. How to incorporate salicylic acid into your skincare routine Start with a cleanser containing salicylic acid, using it slowly to allow your skin to adjust. If your skin tolerates it well, you can gradually increase usage or introduce additional products like serums or spot treatments. Always follow with a moisturiser and sunscreen, as salicylic acid can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. The best skincare routine for oily skin

The best skincare routine for oily skin

by Jo Boyden on Aug 09 2024
If you have oily skin, you’ll know the struggle of managing shine and breakouts all too well. But having oily skin doesn't have to be a daily battle! With the right skincare routine, you can control excess oil, minimize the appearance of pores, and keep your skin looking fresh and balanced throughout the day! Whether you're dealing with midday shine, frequent blemishes or seasonal flare-ups, keep reading for the best skincare routine for oily skin so you can achieve a clear, matt and healthy complexion all year round. What is oily skin? Caused by genetics, dehydrated skin and overactive sebaceous glands producing excess sebum, oily skin is a common skin type that leaves you with a slick shine (or greasy appearance). People with oily skin often struggle with large pores too which can get easily clogged with sweat and oils, this is why oily skin has a tendency to breakout where pores are more prominent such as the cheeks and T-zone. The best skincare routine for oily skin Step 1: Start with a purifying cleanser As with any skin type, perfecting your skincare routine is paramount. First things first, prep your skin with a good cleanser formulated with ingredients that will help reduce excessive oil and prevent the plugging of pores that can lead to acne breakouts! Niacinamide is a game-changes for oily skin! It’s a versatile and powerhouse skincare ingredient that works to regulate excess sebum production and to possibly even lower your skin’s sebum excretion over time! Plus, niacinamide is also packed with antibacterial properties - all while keeping things gentle for your skin. We recommend: Naturys Purifying Mousse. Its beautifully light, ideal for daily cleansing and is formulated with the purifying properties of niacinamide to thoroughly, yet gently cleanse skin removing excess oil, dirt, grime and impurities. The result? Skin feels beautifully fresh and baby soft! How to use: Apply over the damp skin and massage gently into skin morning and night. Rinse with warm water. Step 2: Use a Hydrating serum Just as with any skin type, oily skin needs nourishment and serums are perfect for that because they are lightweight and easily absorbed. Just be sure to use a non-greasy serum! A purifying serum formulated with niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid will keep your skin well-hydrated while helping to balance your oil production too! We recommend: Naturys Deep Purifying Serum. Containing a purifying complex of niacinamide, bakuchiol, hyaluronic acid, peptides and vitamin c, this serum, specifically designed for oily skin is both nourishing and soothing. Enriched with olive oil microcapsules that melt when in contact with the skin, it helps correct overproduction of sebum, enlarged pores, acne and skin prone to redness. Crazy right? How to use: Apply a few drops to clean skin in the morning and evening, lightly massaging with circular movements to absorb the microcapsules. Step 3: Always apply moisturiser Now that you’ve applied your serum, it’s imperative you properly moisturise your skin too. One of the biggest misconceptions about oily skin is that it doesn’t need moisturiser. Contrary to popular belief moisturising does not make oily skin worse. Moisturising actually helps to regulate oil production! Often people who struggle with oily skin, don’t give their skin the nourishment it needs and in turn cause their skin to dehydrate, their skin then tries to compensate by producing too much oil! And there we have ourselves a vicious cycle. The key is to find a lightweight moisturiser specifically targeted to oily skin types that won’t clog pores or leave a greasy residue. We recommend: Naturys Face Cream Age-Purifying. It's anti-ageing and the ideal solution for oily skin! Formulated with bakuchiol, niacinamide and peptides it balances skin, keeps oil at bay, reduces enlarged pores, purifies the skin and battles imperfections! Oh and it reduces wrinkles and signs of ageing too! How to use: Use morning or evening all over your face and neck and décolleté, after thoroughly cleansing skin. Step 4: Don’t forget your sunscreen As a general rule of thumb, sunscreen should be the last product you apply. It's also important to ensure you allow the rest of your products to properly absorb before adding sunscreen on top. We recommend waiting a few minutes after you've applied your last skincare product. We know many sunscreens can feel greasy on the skin so clearly that’s the last thing you want to apply to your already oily face right? But I’m here to preach to you the importance of sunscreen for all skin types and that it’s, unfortunately, necessary to wear every. single. day come rain or shine. Just make sure if your skin is oily to look for lighter oil free sunscreens that won’t feel heavy on your skin. We recommend: Hubislab - Post Rays UV Protect Sun Block SPF50+ PA+++ Ideal for all skin types including oily skin, this high factor sunscreen provides complete UV and antioxidant protection while preventing dryness, dullness and hyperpigmentation. Rich in Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 and hydrolysed collagen it keeps skin nourished, healthy and elastic, while the invisible matte formula applies smoothly and stays on all day! How to use: Apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your face and neck every morning, even on cloudy days. Step 5: Once or twice a week exfoliate skin Oily skin responds well to physical exfoliation because when those dead skin cells are removed, oil is less likely to get trapped and therefore less likely to cause breakouts. Just make sure you avoid over-exfoliating as it can lead to redness and irritation. We recommend: Naturys Purifying Peeling AHA Solution. Formulated with Mandelic acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Tartaric acid and Lemon extract, this effective exfoliant solution promotes cell turnover and regenerates oily skin. Using this product regularly (once or twice a week), stimulates microcirculation and the physiological production of collagen and hyaluronic acid. How to use: Apply to skin, leave on for 10-12 minutes, massage gently and remove the product with warm water.   Additional step: Use a face mask If you have oily skin, we highly recommend that once a week, you use a treatment mask. Masks formulated with clay and charcoal are best for oily skin types as they naturally draw out impurities and absorb excess oil while calming any irritation, oh and they will ensure your skin feels 100 % refreshed a squeaky clean! Now that you’ve completed your skincare routine for oily skin, here’s a few tips when it comes to your makeup! Use a primer! You wont regret it. If you’re a lover of foundation but are a little over it sliding off your face as the day goes on, you need to introduce a primer into your life! A good primer can be a godsend for those with oily skin, not only because it helps makeup last longer but a good mattifying primer will also tackle areas of high shine, soften the appearance of fine lines and pores too! We recommend: ELES’s Pore Perfecting Face Primer. It's a light-textured, skin smoothing, oil-free primer that not only combats shine but absorbs oil and reduces the appearance of pores and wrinkles at the same time! The result – flawless looking foundation as soon as it’s applied, and it will stay put all day long too! How to use: Smooth over clean, moisturised skin. Apply mineral matte foundation If you are prone to oily skin, it’s best to steer clear of foundation with a dewy finish and instead opt for a matte, semi-matte powder or oil-free foundation. A handy powder compact should be the one staple in your beauty bag, that can come with you wherever you go for those times you need to do a little ‘touch up’. Just be sure to avoid illuminating powder with shimmer as this will only draw attention to skin texture and exacerbate pore size. Instead, opt for a translucent pore-minimising and oil-absorbent powder. Mineral makeup works wonders on oily skin because the particles tend to absorb moisture, preventing shine. We recommend: ELES Mineral Powder Foundation this best-selling foundation enables you to adjust your coverage from a translucent powder to a buildable coverage foundation with a richer, more opaque finish. What’s more, it’s formulated with skin loving ingredients including vitamins A & E, so it’ll provide antioxidant protection as well as condition skin! Oh and it will not clog your pores! How to use: Swirl a large powder brush onto powder and tap off excess. Apply over entire face in circular motions for best coverage. If power isn’t your thing and you’re a lover of liquid foundations but are concerned about slippage, fear not, weve got the foundation for you! We recommend: ELES Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation is ELES’s global best-seller for many a reason! One being its long-lasting staying power no matter what your skin condition. It’s packed with goodness including an exclusive multi mineral complex as well as vitamins A, C & E but its formula while it goes on as a silky liquid, sets to a soft powder finish, perfect for those with combination and oily skin. What’s more, it allows skin to breathe freely, so it won’t clog up those pores leading to unwanted blemishes! How to use: Apply directly onto moisturised skin or over a face primer. Using a foundation brush or problender sponge, sweep onto skin starting at the centre of the face and blending outward and down to the neck. Just remember consistency is key when it comes to managing your oily skin. Stick to your routine, and over time, you’ll notice a reduction in oiliness and breakouts! With the right products and a consistent routine, oily skin can be kept under control, giving you a clear, radiant complexion.

Acne - your most asked questions answered by the BC experts

by Jo Boyden on Jan 19 2024
From stress inducing activities (hello school holidays) to overindulging (another cheese platter anyone?) the December/January holiday season (or silly season as we like to call it!) are rife with potential triggers that can lead to acne flare ups! That’s why this time of year is when we, at BC, get inundated with your questions about acne.Whether acne is something you’ve lived with for many years, or it’s decided to crop up now as an unwelcome adult guest, acne is one of the most common skin woes and we are here to help! We've listed the most frequently asked questions about acne and tapped into the wisdom of our skincare experts to get you the best possible answers. Keep scrolling to find out what they are… Q: Why am I getting acne as an adult, I thought acne was for teenagers?Sadly acne isn't only reserved for awkward high school years. Several factors can contribute to acne in adults. These include;hormonal changes: This often occurs during menstruation, pregnancy, perimenopause, or menopause. Hormonal imbalances can stimulate the sebaceous glands, leading to increased oil production and breakouts.Stress: High stress levels can wreak havoc on your skin. Stress triggers the release of certain hormones, such as cortisol, which can stimulate oil production and contribute to acne. Additionally, stress may lead to unhealthy lifestyle habits, like poor sleep and an imbalanced diet, which can further exacerbate skin issues.Diet: While the link between specific foods and acne isn't universally agreed upon, some people find that certain dietary factors such as high-glycemic foods and dairy products can impact their skin and increase the risk of acne.Skincare and makeup products: The products you use on your skin could be a culprit. Some ingredients in skincare or makeup products may clog pores or irritate the skin, leading to breakouts. Ensure the products you are using are of good quality and are suitable for your specific skin type too!Environmental factors: Exposure to environmental pollutants, such as smog or certain chemicals, can contribute to skin issues. Additionally, humidity may increase the likelihood of acne. Not good news this time of year!Genetics: Your genetic makeup plays a role in your skin's characteristics including its susceptibility to acne! If your parents or close relatives had acne, you might be more prone to it as well. Thanks parents!Medications: Certain medications can have side effects that include acne. If you suspect your medication might be contributing to your acne, it's best to have a chat with your GP.Over-cleansing or products that are too harsh for your skin: Sometimes, the desire to combat acne can lead to over-cleansing or the use of products which you think will help but are in fact too harsh for your skin! This can strip the skin of its natural oils, prompting it to produce even more oil in response. More oil produced equals more breakouts! Q: Can I blame overindulging in chocolate for my breakouts?Sorry to all you chocoholics out there but the link between chocolate and acne isn’t actually crystal clear. It's more about your overall diet, which does include sugar (and dairy too) so if you’ve been hitting the cheese board like me this silly season, or indulging in too many sweet treats, this definitely could be impacting your skin. Remember everything in moderation! And instead try to indulge in foods such as almonds, blueberries and avocados as they are among a range of foods which may help to reduce and prevent inflammation. Q: How can I get rid of my pimples overnight? Some spot treatments can work wonders at reducing, and in some cases eliminating, unwanted blemishes overnight. This is because they encourage rapid healing by controlling bacteria, reducing inflammation and diminishing the follicular accumulation of keratin. For the most effective results look for spot treatments formulated with ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. We highly recommend Phytomers Oligopur Blemish Target Gel as the best spot treatment! It targets blemishes with precision, rapidly improving the skin’s appearance and eliminating spots almost overnight! Simply apply a small amount of product to your pimples and let the powerful ingredients keep your skin follicles clean to achieve an even and bright complexion by morning. Q: Can following a specific skincare routine really help my acne? Absolutely! Consistency is key. A gentle cleanser, non-comedogenic moisturiser, and targeted treatments can help keep acne at bay. Also, don't forget sunscreen – it's like armour for your skin, yes even for those of us with acne! And I know it sounds counterintuitive, slathering sunscreen all over acne flareups but believe me when I say avoiding sunscreen can worsen the appearance of acne, and if the skin gets sunburnt, the symptoms of acne can be painfully exasperated.Just be sure to choose your sunscreen wisely. Using the right sunscreen can prevent and heal acne, soothe the skin, keep dark spots and clogged pores at bay, all while protecting from harmful UV rays.We love Medicalia Sunscreen SPF 40 with Blue Light Shield. Q: Can I wear makeup if I have acne prone skin?Absolutely! But you must be careful with what you use! Look for non-comedogenic, oil-free formulas. Mineral makeup can be a game-changer as it doesn’t contain any chemical nasties or additional oils, nor will it aggravate skin or clog pores. Genius! Here at BC from the staff to the experts we all love ELES Cosmetics Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation. And for more translucent coverage the ELES Mineral Foundation Powder. Both products are perfect for those with skin sensitives, are free of any chemical nasties, provide effortless and natural coverage and most importantly will allow your skin to breathe freely (so no pore clogging in sight) plus you'll feel like you aren’t wearing makeup at all! What more could you ask for?For more information on makeup for acne prone skin, including the best makeup tips click here. My pimples really need popping, is it ok to do so?No! Experts cringe at the thought of DIY extractions. Popping pimples can lead to scarring and more inflammation. Let it be, and consider a spot treatment instead. Are all pimples the same?Nope! From blackheads and whiteheads to cystic acne, the acne family can get a little confusing! And each type of pimple or acne requires a slightly different approach too! To understand more about the type of acne you could be suffering from click here. Could stress and lack of sleep being affecting my skin?Yes sir-eee. Lack of sleep and high stress levels can trigger hormonal imbalances leading to breakouts. Try to prioritise self-care, practice relaxation techniques and try to get to bed earlier if you can for ample beauty sleep. If you struggle with getting to sleep make sure you turn off devices an hour before bedtime and instead listen to some soothing sounds. We love listening to the ambient relaxation playlist on Spotify.
Clear skin? 10 steps to reduce acne

Clear skin? 10 steps to reduce acne

by Jo Boyden on Nov 09 2023
Whether you are battling occasional breakouts or dealing with persistent acne, we understand how frustrating having problematic skin can be, especially when all you want is a clear glowing complexion, is that really too much to ask? While acne is a common skin concern, it doesn’t mean you can’t take steps to radically reduce it! Keep reading as we reveal our 10 top tips… Cleanse twice daily Start your skincare routine with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, excess oil, and impurities from your skin. Be sure to cleanse both morning and night, but we picky with what products you use. You don’t want to choose a harsh cleaner that’ll strip your skin of its natural oils as this can lead to an increase in oil production and in turn more potential breakouts! Eek. You want to look for gentle formulations rich in ingredients such as salicylic acid or lactic acid as they can help prevent the buildup of sebum (which can contribute to acne.)Try Medicalia Clarifying Cleanser. With a balanced blend of lactic and salicylic acid the gentle cleanser works quickly and effectively to eliminate toxins, impurities, surface bacteria, and make-up. It’s ideal for inflamed, sensitive, acne prone and oily skin types.“I have problem skin & after using this product my face is clear & people have commented on the changes.” Laurie Exfoliate weekly, but be sure to be gentle Incorporating a mild exfoliant into your skincare routine can do wonders in the fight against acne. Exfoliating will help to remove any dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your skin which can clog pores and lead to breakouts!Just remember over exfoliating can have the adverse effect and actually irritate your skin so make sure to exfoliate just once a week to start and use a gentle exfoliator.Try Phytomer’s Vegetal Exfoliant with Natural Enzymes. It’s a soft exfoliant for even the most sensitive or rosacea prone skin and uses natural enzymes to encourage cell turnover without scrubbing or irritating your skin.“Gentle on the skin and worked well even for my acne prone skin.” OliveIf you do love a granular scrub though opt for a gentle version like Pevonia’s Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser.Formulated with jojoba beads, Saponaria and chamomile,it gently polishes skin with its unique creamy, granular texture, removing dead skin cells, impurities and toxins to reveal instant radiance and softer, smoother skin too! You’ll love the immediate gratification you’ll get from this formidable favourite of ours.“This is the best exfoliating cleanser I have ever used. I'm so impressed with the results, my skin feels so much smoother and cleaner.” Chloe Never skip your moisturiser Even though sometimes applying moisturiser to oily, acne prone skin can seem counterintuitive, it is essential as you want to steer clear of a damaged skin barrier! With no moisture at all, your skin would become dehydrated and begin to over-compensate by producing more oil! Something you definitely don’t need when it comes to oily, blemish and acne prone skin!Instead look for lightweight, oil-free moisturisers that won’t feel heavy on your skin.Try: Phytomer Acnipur Blemish Solution Fluid. This lightweight gel-cream works amazingly on problematic skin reducing overall breakoutsThe formula also helps eliminate shine for a clean, matte complexion. With regular use, this acne treatment not only helps diminish the appearance of existing blemishes, but it prevents future breakouts too!“This fluid is almost like a serum but lighter in texture. I use it after I wash my face morning and night. I have noticed a reduction in breakouts on my skin and also a more mattifying appearance on my skin”. Alyssa Spot treat with care For targeted acne treatment, use spot treatments. These can help reduce inflammation and kill acne-causing bacteria. Remember to use them sparingly and only on active breakouts to avoid drying out your skin.Try: Phytomer’s’ Oligopur Blemish Target Gel, it’s a phenomenal spot treatment which targets blemishes with precision, rapidly improving the skin’s appearance and eliminating spots almost overnight! Simply apply a small amount of product to your pimple and let the powerful ingredients keep your skin follicles clean to achieve an even and bright complexion. This is the best product to fight pimples! I couldn't get my chin to clear up and w/in a few days of using phytomer my chin was clear again! Joanne Never skip on sunscreen Some acne treatments can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so protecting your skin is crucial to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and sun damage. The Sun, heat and humidity can also cause oil glands to become overactive, which in turn can lead to acne breakouts! To prevent these breakouts choose and oil-free, non-comedogenic sunscreen and apply it liberally daily! Be aware of what you are eating What you eat can have a huge impact your skin's health so it’s imperative if you are suffering from acne to Incorporate a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and limit your intake of processed foods and sugary treats. Consuming foods high in antioxidants and vitamins can help promote clear, radiant skin too!Try;Fatty fish such as salmon and tunaYellow and orange fruits and vegetables such as carrots, apricots, and sweet potatoesSpinach, kale and other dark green and leafy vegetablesTomatoesBlueberriesAvocadoswhole-wheat breadbrown ricequinoaSoybeans Reduce your stress levels Sounds easier said than done I know, we all have those days, weeks, months even where we are super stressed but said stress can lead to acne flare ups! This is because stress-related hormone CRH can bind to receptors in the skin’s sebaceous glands, increasing oil production. Excess oil production can then cause pimples. So, if you keep breaking out and just can’t understand why, stress might be to blame, so try to relax!Try; listening to relaxation music or meditate. Also, something as simple as taking a relaxing bubble bath every evening can really help. Exercise is also imperative! While exercising will increase blood flow, helping nourish skin cells and keeping them vital, it has also been accountable for reducing stress-related acne. Keep your phone clean! And your pillowcase too! Yup, a sudden breakout can be from something as simple as your phone or pillowcase (well anything that touches your face really that could be hosts for harmful bacteria!) chemical peel

What is a chemical peel and what does it do for your skin?

by Jo Boyden on Sep 08 2023
If you’re reading this, you’ve likely heard of the term “chemical peel” but are probably wondering what a chemical peel actually is? As well as how it can benefit your skin. And we totally understand how the words “chemical peel” might make your run for the hills, after all how is applying chemicals to your face even a thing? Believe me though, when I say there are so many benefits to chemical peels, oh, and they are perfectly safe to use at home too! Keep reading as we reveal all there is to know about these transformative treatments and how a chemical peel might truly be what’s best for your skin. What is a chemical peel?A chemical peel is a skincare product or procedure that involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin. This solution is specifically formulated to exfoliate the outermost layer of skin (the epidermis). As the name suggests, it "peels" away the damaged or dead skin cells, revealing smoother, healthier skin underneath.Chemical peels are used to effectively treat a number of skin concerns including fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. What does a chemical peel do for your skin? Chemical peels have a multitude of benefits. These include;Deep exfoliationThe primary purpose of a chemical peel is to exfoliate the skin. It removes dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and encourages cellular turnover.Getting rid of acne and acne scaringChemical peels can help manage acne by reducing the appearance of pimples and preventing new breakouts. They also fade acne scars over time.Reducing hyperpigmentationPeels can lighten and even out skin tone by targeting hyperpigmentation, such as sunspots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.Reducing wrinklesChemical peels stimulate collagen production, helping to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They're often used for anti-aging purposes.Improving skin textureIf you struggle with rough or uneven skin texture, chemical peels can help create much smoother skin.Helping facial redness and rosaceaFor those with redness or rosacea, certain types of chemical peels can help calm and soothe the skin, reducing redness.Brightening skin toneSuffer from dull skin? Chemical peels can help with this too! Revealing a brighter, radiant complexion.Enhancing the absorption of other skin care productsMuch like exfoliators, chemical peels unclog pores, this enables skincare products to fully absorb into your skin, penetrating to the deeper levels for optimum results. So if you have a specific skin concern like hyperpigmentation or acne? There’s a chemical peel out there with your name and solution on it!How do chemical peels work?Chemical peels work through a process called chemical exfoliation. Here's a breakdown of the key steps: Cleansing - Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, dirt, and oils. This step ensures that the chemical solution can penetrate evenly. Application - The chemical solution is applied to your skin, typically with a brush or cotton pad. The type and strength of the solution used depend on your skin type and the desired results. Contact time - The solution is left on your skin for a specific amount of time. Timing can be crucial, as it dictates the depth of the peel. Neutralization - After the appropriate time has elapsed, the chemical peel is neutralized to stop the exfoliation process. Recover - Your skin will naturally shed the damaged outer layer over the next few days to reveal fresh, rejuvenated skin underneath. Types of chemical peelsThese are actually a few types of chemical peels and these depend on their depth and the specific concerns they address. They include superficial peels (ideal for mild exfoliation and improving skin texture), medium peels (they penetrate a little deeper than superficial peels and so are good for dealing with pigmentation issues and wrinkles) and finally deep peels (as the name suggests these particular peels are intense, should only be performed by a professional and tend to be used to address more severe signs of skin ageing and issues such a deep set wrinkles and scaring.)Want to try a peel but still a little scared? Start at home with a more gentle option. We highly recommend Vie Collection Night Peel Progressive Resurfacing Cream. It’s an ultra-soft night version of the chemical peel! Its a modern balm with a creamy texture that offers complete exfoliation to the skin, helping to brighten, refine and improve smoothness for a younger-looking complexion. Its formula is enriched with glycolic acid and citric acids and has a progressive diffusion to act continuously all through the night. Each morning the complexion appears more luminous and even. After one month the skin looks renewed. Seriously. If you love the idea of what a chemical peel can do for your skin but the idea still terrifies you, why not try an enzyme peel first? It’s a natural, gentler alterative. Enzyme peels work by stimulating the production of collagen, removing dead skin cells and promoting cell regeneration. They also contain antioxidants that help improve your skin's complexion.Enzyme peels are composed of fruit enzymes that digest dead skin cells while simultaneously nourishing the skin to reveal a brighter, healthier complexion. The best part of enzyme peels is they are gentle enough for sensitive skin, require zero downtime, and yield immediate results.Try Pevonia Enzymo Spherides Peeling Cream. Papaya and Pineapple have been selected for their enzyme peeling action, an action that gently digests away impurities, sebum, toxins and the dead skin cells, instead of abrading or burning them off. So it’s gentle, really gentle, and it’s effective too! Nothing makes skin feel cleaner, lighter or more purified than this jar of goodness and it’s easy to use; simply apply a thin layer on cleansed skin, wet the fingertips with warm water, this will help to “wake up” the enzymes, then leave them to do their thing for 5-10 minutes, then rinse away. What you are left with is skin that looks reborn and with a lustrous sheen.
face mapping - woman checking her pimples and breakouts

Breakouts? Why you’re getting reoccurring pimples

by Jo Boyden on Jun 02 2023
I’m pretty certain when I say, we’ve likely all suffered from pimples many a time in our lives, and just when you think they are behind you, you suddenly get another bout of unwanted blemishes! Pimples are actually a very common skin concern for people of all ages and skin types. But have you ever wondered why those pesky pimples keep cropping up, even when we are in our 40’s, 50’s and older even? And often in specific areas of our face too! Maybe you tend to get them around your chin more? Or on your nose or forehead perhaps?Well, according to the ancient Chinese practice of face mapping, the location of your pimples can actually tell you a lot about your overall health. That’s right dependant on where your pimples are appearing on your face, they can actually mean different things, from digestive issues to hormonal fluctuation. Keep reading to learn all about the importance of face mapping, so next time you get an outbreak you’ll know what the cause may be and how you can help to fix it. Firstly though, what is face mapping?Face mapping is an ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic practice that links different “zones” of the face (eg cheeks, chin, forehead) to different organs or glands in the body. The theory is that when there is an imbalance or toxicity in the body (in one of the different organs), it can manifest as pimples in the corresponding zone on the face. What are the different zones and what do pimples in these areas mean? The foreheadIf you often find yourself battling pimples in this area, it could be an indicator of digestive issues. Take a closer look at your diet, up the fibre and make sure you're staying hydrated too. Cutting back on alcohol, sugar and processed foods and incorporating more fruits and veggies could help clear up those forehead blemishes. Be sure to chew food well and take probiotics too.Between the browsBlemishes between the brows can be the sign of an overloaded liver. Liver issues can be indicative of sleep deprivation, heightened emotions (stress, sadness, anger, worry), or an excess of sugar, fats or alcohol in your diet. Your lymphatic circulation may also be stagnant and could use a little boost so try starting your morning with a hot water with lemon, drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, decrease your intake of spicy foods, alcohol, dairy, and sorry to say it, coffee too! And up the essential fatty acids, omega 3 and 6 in your diet, avocado and olive oil on your salad will help. Finally rest up, like you, your liver needs plenty of time to rest and recuperate.TemplesThe corners of the forehead, by the temples represent the kidneys.Lack of sleep, a poor diet and dehydration impacts our kidney function. Another factor may be a mineral deficiency, specifically iron too. To help, take proactive steps to support the kidneys, including decreasing stress, consuming enough fluids (spring water, coconut water, herbal tea, hydrolytes!), making sure you get enough sleep, also be mindful of your diet (eat ample amounts of fruits and vegetables and try to stay away from too much sodium.CheeksIf you notice pimples frequently appearing on your cheeks, it could indicate respiratory issues or allergies, since this area is linked to your lungs. The most common food triggers are dairy, soy, gluten, processed sugar and alcohol – try to eliminate these groups for a month to see how your body reacts with the change and replace with leafy green goodness. Also, pay attention to the air quality in your environment, as pollutants can wreak havoc on your skin.JawlineBreakouts in this area are often linked to hormonal fluctuations, particularly in women. It's not uncommon to experience these pimples around your menstrual cycle. However, persistent acne along the jawline might also be connected to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or digestive problems so you might want to get a blood test so that your doctor can get a better understanding of your hormonal levels. This will also help to determine how well your thyroid is functioning too.If you find you do get hormonal breakouts, there are many things you can do to help. Try eliminating caffeine (ok this might be a big ask, so at least try to cut it down), as well as cutting out processed sugar, dried fruit, bread, wine, diary, white flour, gluten, soy, fried foods, peanut butter and fruits like grapes and bananas (high sugar content). Eating a diet rich in omega-3 foods will instead be very beneficial, as will managing stress levels. Taking vitamin D3 supplements and getting regular exercise and adequate sleep can work wonders for bringing your hormones back to their natural balance as well!ChinIf you are prone to pimples on your chin, it could be related to your stomach. Just be sure to step up your fibre intake, avoid hydrogenated fats and processed sugar and try to be vigilant with the times you eat (no eating dinner just before bedtime!)NoseGetting pimples on your nose can be linked to your heart and can sometimes indicate high blood pressure, so get your blood pressure checked if you’re concerned. Look into ways of lowering your cholesterol too like replacing “bad fats” with “good fats” such as Omegas 3 and 6 found in nuts, avocados, fish and flax seed. You may also have a Vitamin B deficiency so consider a vitamin supplement and try to avoid spicy foods.Tip: Massage the area around your nose to improve circulation. While face mapping can provide insights into your pimples underlying causes, it’s essential to adopt some general habits for maintaining healthy skin too. Here are a few tips to get you started: Keep skin beautifully cleansed If we don’t cleanse (and exfoliate) out skin our pores can become clogged with dead skin cells, excess oil and dirt. When a pore gets clogged, it provides the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive and pimples to form! So be sure to keep your face clean by washing it twice a day with a gentle cleanser suitable for your skin type and exfoliate at least once a week. Adopt healthy skincare habits Your skincare routine and habits can play a significant role in the appearance of pimples. Harsh or irritating products can disrupt the skin’s natural balance, leading to inflammation and breakouts. While cleansing and exfoliating is imperative, over-washing or over-exfoliating can strip away essential oils, prompting your skin to produce more sebum as a defence mechanism. Use natural products free of harsh irritants and adopt a healthy daily skincare routine. Don’t pick or squeeze your pimples! As tempting as it may be, avoid picking or popping your pimples, as it can lead to scarring and more breakouts. Eat a balanced diet Studies suggest there is a link between diet and pimples. Consuming sugary and processed foods may increase insulin levels, leading to increased sebum production and acne formation. Additionally, dairy products and foods rich in saturated fats have also been associated with blemish breakouts. Therefore maintaining a balanced diet rich in an array of colourful fruits and veggies can promote overall skin health. Stay hydrated Drink enough water (and herbal tea) consistency throughout the day to keep skin hydrated and flush out those unwanted toxins. Manage stress Stress can be a big indicator of unwanted breakouts. Try and find ways to manage stress. Exercise daily, even if only for a brisk walk, practice meditation, indulge in a good book, relax and listen to your favourite music or simply engage in activities you enjoy that allow you to switch off from stress. Get enough sleep I know we say this time and time again, and I need to practice what I preach, but sleep is SO important, it’s the second most important thing after water. Sleep is not only a time for our body to recoup, but the time that our skin repairs and regenerates too. So as hard as it may be sometimes or impossible if you have a heavy workload, try and put that laptop down, turn off the TV or stop scrolling through Facebook for an evening, and get that quality sleep your body needs and deserves. Just remember your face is a little like a mirror reflecting what’s going on inside your body! By understanding the principles of face mapping you can get a better understanding of your overall health! By paying attention to the specific location of your pimples, you can address any underlying issues. Remember clear skin is not just about how you care for it topically, it’s about nourishing from within too!Want to learn more about the type of pimples you have and how to treat them? Click here. There are actually a number of causes when it comes to enlarged pores. These include; Genetics Some of us are more prone to having larger pores due to our genetics believe it or not (thanks parents!) Oily skin Excess oil production can lead to clogged pores, making pores appear larger. Age As we get older, our skin loses elasticity, which can cause pores to appear larger. Sun damage Exposure to the sun can cause skin damage, including enlarged pores. Poor skincare habits Not properly cleansing and exfoliating your skin can lead to buildup in your pores, causing them to enlarge. Hormonal changes Fluctuations in hormones, can cause the skin to produce more oil, leading to larger pores. How do you shrink enlarged pores? Keep your skin clean Keeping your skin cleansed is crucial to preventing clogged pores. When pores are clogged, they may appear larger or darker in colour, and swelling or inflammation may start to develop – eek! Be sure to use a gentle cleanser depending on your skin type. For example if your skin is oily, it’s best to opt for foaming cleansers, if your skin tends to be on the sensitive side, there are some amazing sensitive skin cream cleansers for that too! Make sure you have exfoliating products in your skincare routine Exfoliators are imperative! Their main purpose is after all to help remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. Look for products that contain alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA’s) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHA’s) like salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid, and use one to two times a week to keep skin smooth and clear. Just be sure to introduce your retinol cream slowly though. Use at night, once or twice a week and gradually increase to nightly. Remember it’s best not to use retinol cream in the morning because retinol makes your skin more sensitive to UV rays, plus sunlight decreases the efficacy of the product. Also remember while you are using a retinol cream to be diligent about applying your sunscreen in the day (well you should be wearing it daily anyway!)To learn more about the many benefits of retinol click here. makeup primer

Makeup primer – do you really need to use it?

by Jo Boyden on Dec 23 2022
From concealers to foundations, bronzers to blushes and more, with the multitude of makeup products available to ‘perfect’ our face these days, it’s no wonder some of us might question which products are really necessary and which ones we might be ok to forgo. For many, makeup primers tend to fall into the latter category, but we are here to tell you why this underrated makeup staple is a necessity when it comes to your daily makeup routine! Keep reading as we discuss everything there is to know about makeup primers, from what they are, to their numerous benefits, as well as our favourite primers for all skin types too! What is a makeup primer and what does it really do?Creating an extra layer between your skin and makeup, face primers are used to plump fine lines, blur impurities and blemishes, smooth skin, and help makeup last all day without caking, creasing or the need for constant touch-ups. They really are key to achieving smooth, flawless skin that’s perfectly prepped for your foundation! Depending on your skin concerns, you can choose from a hydrating primer, a mattifying primer, an illuminating primer or a colour-correcting makeup primer. What are the benefits of using a makeup primer? They provide the perfect base for your foundation Even though you might well have followed a rigorous skincare routine, your complexion can sometimes still be a little uneven, enter makeup primer! A makeup primer provides the perfect base for seamless foundation application free of any patches! This is because a primers main job is to fill the open pores of your skin and smooth it in preparation for your makeup to follow. They keep makeup intact all day long Ready to say goodbye to touch-ups and reapplication throughout the day? With a face primer in your makeup arsenal, you can enjoy a long-lasting, smudge-free complexion all day long. They can blur imperfections While makeup primers won’t enhance your skin quite like a bronzer, or conceal pesky pimples like a foundation, they are formulated to hide and blur imperfections! They are in fact touted as the photoshop of the makeup world! How they actually blur imperfections is down to two key ingredients: silicone particles which “fill in the gaps” on the surface of skin to even it out, and light-diffusing particles which scatter the light that hits the surface of the skin, creating an optical illusion that tricks the eye and makes pores and fine lines less visible. Sounds ideal right? They combat shine This will be music to those of us with oily skin! Indeed mattifying face primers can combat shine by balancing out excess oil, this in turn creates a smooth base for your makeup so it won’t slide off your face come lunchtime! They correct discolouration if you struggle with discolouration or hyperpigmentation, a face primer can be an important component in your makeup routine. Colour-correcting primers even out the skin tone and neutralize discoloration as the tinted pigments, antioxidants, and vitamin E brighten skin and minimize visible imperfections. They are packed with skin loving ingredients Many face primers, including our range of ELES makeup primers, are like an extension of your skincare, enriched with skin-loving ingredients including Vitamins A, C & E and salicylic acid to not only promote skin cell turnover and nourish and hydrate the skin but tackle and conceal common concerns like dullness, dryness and redness too! When do you apply a face primer? In terms of application, a face primer should be applied to perfectly cleansed skin, after your moisturiser and before you apply your makeup. Can you use primer without makeup?Absolutely! For no-makeup days, applying a primer is one of the easiest ways to conceal imperfections, colour correct, mattify the skin and combat shine and oiliness. You can apply your face primer after your daily serums and moisturiser. Are makeup primers for everyone?Whether you love a less-is-more makeup look or prefer dramatic glam, a makeup primer is the perfect tool, and you can choose the right primer for your skin's specific needs, from hydrating to pore perfecting and more…Our top picksFor dry to sensitive skinIf your skin is a little dry, opt for a multi-functional face primer that will keep makeup in place, while hydrating, firming and plumping the skin with a gentle blend of nourishing botanical oils. AHA-BHA

AHAs, BHAs and your skin: Everything you need to know

by Jo Boyden on Dec 15 2022
If you are a lover of skincare, you’ve likely heard of AHA and BHAs, but do you know what it is they actually are, what they can do for your skin or what the difference between these exfoliating acids really are? Keep reading for everything you need to know about BHA, AHAs and your skin. What are AHAs and how do they work?AHAs, or otherwise known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids, are water-soluble acids derived from fruits and plants. They’re considered a chemical exfoliant, which means that they use chemicals — aka acids or enzymes — to buff away dead skin cells. The most common AHA’s in skincare are glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid and malic acid and they are typically found in cleansers and exfoliators but can sometimes feature in masks, serums and moisturisers too!AHAs work by breaking down the ‘glue’ that binds dead skin cells to the skin. Because they have a large molecule size, they primarily work on the top layers of the skin, making them particularly beneficial for those with dry, dehydrated or hyperpigmented skin. By removing dead and dry skin cells, AHAs smooth skin texture, brighten skin tone, fade pigmentation, and can also reduce the chance of breakouts from occurring! What are BHA’s and how do they work? The most well-known BHA is salicylic acid – chances are you’ll have heard of this one if you have breakout-prone skin, since it’s found in many spot treatments.Like AHAs, BHAs also work by breaking down the ‘glue’ that binds dull, dead skin to the surface, however they work on a much deeper level than AHAs, penetrating deep into the pores, unclogging and removing dead skin cells, excess sebum and congestion. This is because BHAs are oil-soluble, making them an effective treatment for oily, breakout and acne-prone skin. Because BHAs can penetrate so deep, removing both dead skin cells and excess oil (which when combined can clog pores and lead to breakouts) they are an effective whitehead and blackhead buster. BHAs also act as an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, so they work to kill acne-causing bacteria and reduce the redness and swelling of spots too. What is the difference between AHA’s and BHA’s?Although both of these ingredients are exfoliating acids and work to improve the appearance of skin by exfoliating it, they actually work in different ways. AHA’s work to break down the glue that holds dead skin cells together while BHA’s go deeper into the pores to remove dirt and oil.Are AHAs and BHAs good for all skin types? If you have oily and blemish prone skin, you’re best to choose skincare products formulated with BHA’s. If your skin tends to be on the dry, dehydrated side, AHA’s should be your go to.While these acids can dramatically improve the appearance of your skin, it’s important to remember that both AHAs and BHAs are active ingredients which (if overused) can impact your skin’s natural barrier, cause irritation, and increase skin’s UV sensitivity. For this reason, it’s essential to understand how to use acids properly, what to do if you over exfoliate your skin, and the best AHA and BHA skincare for your skin type. How to use AHA’s and BHA’s properlyAs with most skincare ingredients, especially exfoliants, AHAs and BHAs have their downsides, including possible sun sensitivity, peeling and itching, so you need to be sure not to overuse any products formulated with AHAs and BHA’s and be extra diligent about slathering on your sunscreen…daily, all year round! Before you incorporate AHA and/or BHA products into your daily skincare routine, you need to consider the other skincare products you are using, paying close attention to the ingredient list to avoid irritation since AHAs and BHA’s might not be compatible with them. It is best to steer clear of your retinol cream or serum on a day you are using AHA and BHA rich skincare as the combination may cause excessive skin sensitivity, irritation, and redness. On the other hand AHAs and BHAs can be mixed with moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, to get effective and long lasting results.AHAs and BHAs themselves can be combined. However AHAs such as glycolic acid, tend to be best for dry, dehydrated skin and surface-level skin concerns like acne scaring, whereas BHAs such as salicylic acid, are best for oily, blemish, and acne-prone skin types. You can use both by including skincare products which contain both ingredients, or by alternating your products. Try these AHA skincare favourites;Pevonia Renewing Glycocides CreamIf your skin is looking a tad dull and devitalised and you’re forever coveting that ‘insta-glow’, this product is your answer! Formulated with most renowned AHA glycolic acid combined with hydration hero Hyaluronic Acid, it works to dissolve dead skin cells, improving skin texture and diminishing fine lines too! Beauty Collective - Exfoliation and Sensitive Skin

Exfoliation and sensitive skin, here’s what to do

by Jo Boyden on Nov 04 2022
If you suffer from sensitive skin the idea of exfoliating might scare you. After all you don’t want to exacerbate your already irritated skin, right? The thing is exfoliation should be a crucial part of your regular skincare routine no matter what your skin type or concern. Why? Because it offers a multitude of benefits, from removing dulling dead skin cells, to preventing clogged pores, encouraging cell turnover (so those healthy, new cells can come through) and more! In fact, it’s the one step in your skincare routine which will really help reveal glowy, silky-soft skin! However, before exfoliating your face, you do need to know how often to exfoliate and what exfoliating products will be best suited to your sensitive skin. As experts in skincare, we are here to guide you. Keep reading as we discuss exfoliation and sensitive skin and what it is you should do. Which type of exfoliators are best for sensitive skin? There are three different types of exfoliants – physical (scrubs which contain beads or small grains to manually remove surface debris), chemical (acid exfoliants which chemically dissolve debris) and enzyme (plant or fruit derived exfoliants that generally breaks down the ‘glue’ that hold dead skin cells together shedding old cells). For sensitive skin its essential to avoid scrubbing, this will only irritate already reactive skin and can lead to facial redness. Instead use a mild chemical exfoliator, containing AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) such as citric, glycolic and lactic acid, or enzyme exfoliators. These earth-sourced ingredients essentially dissolve dead skin cells as opposed to physically scrubbing them off.Be a little more cautious with exfoliators formulated with BHA’s (beta hydroxy acids) such as salicylic acid. While salicylic is great for acne prone skin it can be too harsh for those this skin sensitivities. How often should you exfoliate if you have sensitive skin?Once a week is fine, if your skin can tolerate it, increasing to two times can be beneficial but don’t rush it! It’s important to be consistent and go slowly to avoid any additional irritation. After all over-exfoliating can compromise your skin’s natural protective barrier – the surface of your skin which has a protective layer of oils and lipids which helps lock in essential moisture and keeps irritants out! What are the best exfoliating products to use on sensitive skin?Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant with natural enzymesWe highly recommend this very gentle enzyme exfoliant. Perfect for for even the most sensitive or rosacea prone skin types, it uses natural enzymes to encourage cell turnover without scrubbing or irritating skin.“I have the most sensitive skin, so I can’t use exfoliants that contain microbeads or scrubs…this is a great alternative. It sloughs off all of the dead skin cells without ever irritating my skin! I use it once a week at the minimum, and it keeps my face glowing and smooth. It’s the most wonderful exfoliant ever!” Sarah RPevonia Enzymo Spherides Peeling CreamThis mini facial in a jar (literally) will do wonders for all skin types even the most sensitive of skin types. And no don’t let the word ‘peel’ put you off! It combines natural fruit pineapple and papaya enzymes with citric and to gently and effectively eliminate impurities, blackheads, dead cells and toxins and it’s so easy to use! Simply apply a thin layer to cleansed skin, wet your fingertips with warm water (this will help to ‘wake up’ the enzymes) and work the peeling cream with gentle massage movements into skin, leave on for 5 minutes and then thoroughly rinse away. Nothing makes skin feel cleaner, softer, smoother and brighter than this jar of goodness!! Trust me.“Absolutely the best product on the market. Perfect for all skin types and ages. Truly amazing. It’s gentle and effective, skin is left bright and soft.” Lisa W
Beauty Collective - Treat dry skin

7 causes of dry skin and how to treat it

by Jo Boyden on Jul 14 2022
If your skin has been feeling somewhat tight of late, itchy and irritated even, or if you’re prone to dry patches and flakiness on your face, it’s likely you have ‘dry’ skin. But what exactly is causing your dry complexion you might ask? And why doesn’t your current skincare routine appear to be working to help counteract this condition? If you’re looking for answers as well as effective remedies, look no further! But first what exactly is dry skin?Dry skin is a very common skin type and can affect anyone at any age. Typically, it happens when our sebaceous glands don’t produce enough oil (sebum) and our skin in turn loses too much water. This is because our natural oils help trap in moisture to keep the skin soft, smooth and supple, if there isn’t enough oil, moisture can escape, leaving the top layer of skin prone to dryness.Unfortunately, the lack of oil production is caused by a number of external factors, but fear not once you know what they are you can start to salvage your skin!Read on as we reveal the 7 main causes of dry skin and the best skincare solutions to treat it. Genetics That’s right, dry skin can indeed be inherited! Another thing we can thank our parents for!If you’ve always been prone to dry skin, it’s essential that you are diligent when it comes to daily skincare routine.Solution:Look for skincare specifically targeted for dry skin. You need to replace moisture in the form of hyaluronic acid and collagen, and natural oils such as squalane. Products rich in ceramides (fatty acids) such as safflower oil are also very important and will help build and reinforce your skin barrier – these include rich creams, balms and soothing cleansers that deliver intense and lasting hydration for visibly plump, smooth and radiant skin.Try: Pevonia Rejuvenating Dry Skin Cream. Formulated with some of the best natural ingredients to counteract dry skin including pear seed extract, hyaluronic acid, collagen, shea butter and squalane, this deeply nourishing and skin smoothing cream diminishes dry and flaky skin while combatting fine lines and wrinkles for a truly rejuvenated, hydrated appearance. Hard water When tap water contains a high concentration of minerals including calcium and magnesium it's known as hard water. Those minerals change the pH balance of your skin as well as leave a film over your skin’s surface that may clog pores, cause dryness and even trigger breakouts, itching and flaking! Aside from upsetting the delicate skin barrier, hard water also prevents skincare products such as your moisturiser from being absorbed into the skin, sapping it of moisture. Eek.Solution: Re-balancing and rehydration are key.Use pH balancing cleansers. They leave the skin with a healthy acidic pH so your moisturiser doesn’t have to work so hard.Try Pevonia CleanRefresh™ Foaming Oil Cleanser. Suitable for all skin types, but especially recommended for dry skin, this innovative, triple duty oil cleanser features an advanced, lipid rich, alcohol-free, soap-free, exclusive formula which transforms into a luscious, foamy cleanser for a truly luxurious cleansing experience! It’s outstanding! However, if your skin is a little on the dry/sensitive side opt for Phytomer’s Perfect Visage Gentle Cleansing Milk. Its creamy texture melts on your skin to gently remove makeup and impurities without disturbing the skin's protective barrier.Toners are great if you have hard water as they melt away any remaining residue also helping to maintain a healthy pH and optimise skin functioning. Using it while the skin is still damp will interrupt the process of the minerals from the water settling on the skin.Try Phytomer Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion. This genius all-in-one makeup remover and toner is THE perfect multi-tasking product for beautifully clean skin! It’s quick, effective and oh so easy to use. Plus, it’s alcohol-free and extremely gentle on the skin so perfect for all skin types! It removes any excess makeup and residue on the skin like a dream and tones without leaving an oily film, just a silky soft fresh-faced complexion instead!Add skin-care products that contain vitamin C to your routine because they also help counteract the coating deposited by hard water.Try Pevonia “C” Complexe with Oxyzomes, it’s a firm favourite of the team at BC and for very good reason.Follow with a moisturiser that will sufficiently restore your skin's softness. Harsh products Maybe your cleanser is too harsh or you’re using your Sonic facial cleansing brush too often. Or perhaps you’re overusing retinol or the salicylic acid in your cleanser is great at treating your blemishes but it’s also drying out your skin. Whatever the case may be, all these daily habits can damage your skin’s moisture barrier without you being aware! This in turn results in surface dryness and skin irritation.Solution; The good news is that you don't have to give up these skin-care heroes (after all they also offer a multitude of benefits), you just need to use them cautiously and reduce the frequency of which you are using them. Cutting down on their use may deliver the results you want without irritation. Over exfoliating Exfoliating is imperative, it allows you to clear your clogged pores, remove excess dry skin and encourage increased cell turnover making way for blemish free skin, but we can all fall victim to exfoliation which can have ramifications on our skin damaging the protective skin barrier which in turn can trigger excessive dryness! Eek.Solution:If your skin is dry exfoliate just once a week and try using a gentle exfoliator formulated with nourishing ingredients. A gentle exfoliant will help remove the dry cell barrier that prevents absorption of moisturising ingredients and brighten dull skin at the same time.Try Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant. It’s seriously soft, silky and subtle scented plus it’s ideal for all skin types even the most sensitive or dry! It eliminates impurities by gently removing dead skin cells with natural enzymes (so no scrubbing or irritating the skin whatsoever) and naturally encourages cell turnover. The result? Beautifully luminous and youthful skin after every use – no jokes! Dry air and indoor heating Sometimes the air inside can be as punishing on your skin as the air outside (especially in winter when there is low humidity and cooler temperatures). Forced air, especially heat, can draw humidity levels down, making skin feel dry and itchy.Solution;Skin moisturisers which rehydrate the top layer of skin cells and seal in moisture are the first step in combating your dry skin. Moisturisers rich in humectants which help attract moisture, and emollients, like ceramides and oils are the way to go!Humidifiers are a great solution too! By adding moisture to the air you’ll be encouraging the moisture in your skin to stay put!Try: Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream. This restorative anti-aging night cream restores youthful vitality to your skin with a nourishing blend of active marine botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids and conditioning oils. The rich texture cocoons skin in nourishing hydration so your complexion gets all the benefits while you slumber. Long hot showers Ahhh who doesn’t love a long, hot shower, especially on a cold winter’s day, it really is one of life’s little pleasures, the problem is though, that while it will indeed make you feel better, it’s not doing any good to your skin! Hot showers and baths can actually inflame the skin, causing redness, itching, and excessive dryness. They can also disrupt the skin's natural balance of moisture, robbing you of the natural oils, fats, and proteins that keep skin healthy!Solution; Now I’m not asking you to forgo your shower, or that long indulgent bath of an evening, but try to limit your shower time and keep the temperature down! Afterwards, apply a moisturising cream within one minute of getting out of the shower to seal in moisture whilst skin is damp as moisturisers work best on damp skin.At night up your game by applying a low molecular oil, they absorb into the skin to stimulate the cells and prevent water evaporation. Many people avoid using products at night in the belief they should allow their skin to ‘breathe’ but on the contrary skincare in the way of a moisturiser and oil at night is imperative. At night your skin is no longer having to play the position of defence, instead, skin is resting, and this is when its permeability is at its highest allowing the active ingredients in your skincare to absorb deep into the skin, and really tackle your dry skin concerns!Try Pevonia’s Vitaminic Concentrate. This soothing, silky oil with the most amazing mandarin aroma, is worth its weight in gold! It’s fast-absorbing and radically combats dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple and seriously glowy skin every morning. Ageing! Dry skin tends to become more of an issue as we get older, this is because our skin produces less oil and gets drier. For women, it could also be due to the hormone changes associated with menopause.Solution; For those with advanced signs of ageing who need optimal cell turnover, choose sulphate-free dry skin skincare products that are infused with hyaluronic acid, glycerin and retinol. These ingredients help replenish lost moisture and quickly repair the skin barrier. We also recommend selecting skincare for dry skin that’s enriched with marine collagen to help preserve moisture and your skin’s hydrolipidic film. Hydrating Serums are great as they penetrate deep into the skin to hydrate between the skin cells and help skin weave new collagen and elastin. Make sure you moisturise every day too (or multiple times a day if needed).Try Pevonia Micro-Retinol Essential Serum formulated with retinol, hyaluronic, and glycerin, it deeply hydrates, smooths, brightens and firms!Worried about using retinol since your skin is sensitive and dry? Don’t stress! Simply check out our blog and learn all there is to know about this anti-ageing holy grail of the skincare world!

Want clear skin? 13 beauty tips you need to know

by Jo Boyden on Jun 30 2022
Whether you are currently dealing with adult acne, are prone to the occasional breakout, or get hormonal pimples when it’s ‘that time of month’, it is possible to get clear skin and maintain it, you just need to know how! From blemish busting products to best practices, we asked the BC pros how to get clear skin fast! Here’s their top 13 beauty tips…. Make sure you use skincare rich in blemish-fighting ingredients Just as you’d search for products rich in Hyaluronic Acid if we have dry or dehydrated skin, or collagen if you’re concerned about ageing, if you want to target any blemishes you may already have and urgently eliminate you need to make sure your skincare is formulated with a few key ingredients! These include;Salicylic AcidWhen it comes to breakouts, salicylic acid should always be your trusty go-to. This is because it’s calming, decongesting and antibacterial, as well as a proven superstar in reducing and preventing further pore clogging! Salicylic Acid is a BHA (beta-hydroxy acid) that penetrates deep into the skin to exfoliate sebum-filled pores, as well as dissolve oil build-up and dead cells from the skin’s surface!Benzoyl PeroxideBenzoyl Peroxide is the most effective ingredient for actually treating spots as opposed to preventing them. This is because it actually kills bacteria! It can however be a little drying and irritating which is why it’s best used in specific targeted spot treatments.AHA’s (Glycolic and Lactic Acids)These two alpha-hydroxy acids slough away the dead skin cells that cause pimple-producing clogged pores. The result? Smoother, softer skin.Vitamin COfficially known as ascorbic acid, Vitamin C is an antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. It can help decrease redness and swelling in blemish-prone skin. Firstly though, when it comes to blemishes the first port of call is to understand what exactly you are dealing with, whether it be hormonal pimples around your chin to one big bulbus bump on your forehead to all out acne, blemishes come in all different shapes and sizes and the products you use can differ too! To find out more about the different types of blemishes and the best product for you click here. Use a facial cleansing brush daily The secret to getting clearer skin is not just in the formulas we use but the practices we establish too! Used in unison with your cleanser, a cleansing brush will provide skin with deeper cleaning, removing any remnants of dirt, bacteria and makeup from your skin you’re your cleanser alone may not have.A good facial cleansing brush will also exfoliate the skin’s surface, leaving it looking and feeling so much smoother. Just be sure that it is made with gentle silicon as some cleansing devices can be to harsh for blemish prone and reactive skin, causing any redness and sensitivity to be exacerbated. The best facial cleansing brush as recommended by the BC pros is the Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush. We all know about the importance of cleansing, but with this little genius gadget you can get your deepest clean yet as gentle but powerful sonic massage works with ultra-hygienic silicone touchpoints and your chosen cleanser to thoroughly remove any build-up of dead skin cells, dirt, oil and sweat, preventing skin problems and resulting in clean & radiant skin, But that’s not all! It preps your skin perfectly for the absorption of your favourite skincare products for maximum effect and results, the tiny pulses help awaken the skin by stimulating the circulation of blood in the skin’s layers (when the blood is stimulated more oxygen is produced in the blood and this feeds the skin cells) and the cleansing brush will aid in keeping your pores clear from debris banishing those breakouts! All it takes is 2 minutes per day! Watch what you eat Sadly, certain foods can exacerbate blemishes and cause full on acne breakouts eek! While other foods can actually help fight them! To pave the way to clear skin you want to follow an anti-acne diet stat. This is a diet rich in the following goodness; Fatty fish such as salmon and tuna Yellow and orange fruits and vegetables such as carrots, apricots, and sweet potatoes Spinach, kale and other dark green and leafy vegetables Tomatoes Blueberries Avocados whole-wheat bread brown rice quinoa Soybeans Foods to avoid include; Refined grains and sugars Dairy products Fast food Chocolate Whey protein powder Stay hydrated Staying hydrated is imperative when it comes to maintaining clear skin. It’s important to consume your 8 glasses of water a day, as well as religiously moisturising your skin both morning and night to keep it supple, soft, well-nourished and blemish free! Never skip on your sunscreen Sun, heat and humidity can cause oil glands to become overactive, which in turn can lead to acne breakouts! To prevent these breakouts choose and oil-free, non-comedogenic sunscreen and apply it liberally daily! Keep your phone clean and try not to touch your face! We are all guilty of spending many an hour stuck to our phones but did you know the bacteria on your phone can lead to breakouts! It’s best to use earbuds instead of pressing the phone against your face or simply use an anti-bacterial wipe to clean your phone daily! It’s also important to be mindful of how often you touch your face with your hands (eek guilty as charged!) like your phone your hands pick up dirt and bacteria and transfer this onto your skin when you rub your face can lead to further blemishes! Exercise every day, even if it’s only a little Exercise is imperative for optimum skin health, by exercising we increase blood flow, by increasing blood flow we help nourish skin cells and keep them vital. Exercise has also been accountable for reducing stress-related acne. Take time out to relax In a fast-paced world where many of us barely stop it’s easy to fall victim to stress! The thing is stress can, unfortunately, trigger breakouts and if you already suffer from acne, stress will only make it worse! So it’s important to try and take time out of our busy schedule for some relaxation. Anything from practicing breathing techniques, reading a good book, taking a bubble bath, meditating, listening to music, or practicing yoga can and will help! Wear mineral makeup as opposed to traditional formulations If you want clear skin and you’re not willing to let makeup go, choose mineral makeup products. They don’t contain any chemical nasties or pore clogging ingredients like some traditional formulations and will allow skin to breath freely all day long. Here at BC from the staff to the experts we all love ELES Cosmetics Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation. And for more translucent coverage the ELES Mineral Foundation Powder. Both products are perfect for those with skin sensitives, are free of any chemical nasties, provide effortless and natural coverage and most importantly will allow your skin to brief freely (so no pore clogging in sight) and feel like you aren’t wearing makeup at all! What more could you ask for? Clean your makeup tools! I’m sure many of us are guilty of putting this off but regularly cleaning our makeup brushes and sponges can make a huge difference to our skin! Yes, that’s right! Your makeup tools are meant to be washed! Besides bacteria, both brushes and sponges also accumulate dead skin cells and oil which can clog your pores leading to skin irritation and pesky pimples! Also, if you apply your makeup with a dirty bush the end result can be a streaky and patchy complexion! Clean brushes definitely make for a smoother makeup application! So get to cleaning them stat! Change your pillowcase frequently! While no one loves to do lots of laundry, switching up your pillowcase every few days will help on the quest for clear skin! Unfortunately like with our hands, makeup brushes and our phones, our pillowcases can harbour any excess oil, dirt and bacteria too (urgh) and in turn, become a breeding ground for acne. So, make sure you change that pillowcase to reduce the risk of breakouts! Better still, if you’re prone to blemishes opt for a silk pillowcase! Silk pillowcases absorb less moisture and dirt, therefore, making them the better choice. Always remove makeup before you go to sleep! It doesn’t matter how tired you are, removing your makeup every night is paramount! While you are asleep at night, your skin isn’t! It’s actually the time your skin recharge, repair, recuperate and renew itself! When you leave makeup on, you are preventing that from happening. The skin ceases to breathe properly, pores get clogged and blemishes start to appear! Get some quality sleep! We don’t call it ‘beauty sleep’ for nothing! When we sleep our skin repairs itself, producing collagen and the more collagen produced means skin is plumper and less likely to wrinkle! If we’re sleep-deprived, not only will we wake with dark under-eye circles and bags, but we are also more likely to experience skin irritation, dehydration, fine lines, and dare I say blemishes! Us adults need a minimum of 7 hours of restful slumber a night, 8 preferred! Just be sure you switch off any electronics an hour or so before a practice some relaxation techniques!
combination skin

5 signs you have combination skin and how to manage it

by Jo Boyden on Jun 24 2022
While many of us tend to self-diagnose our skin with one specific condition, be it dry, oily, sensitive, ageing, the list goes on, it might actually surprise you that the most common skin type is actually combination skin - a mix of both oily and dry!So, if you’ve noticed that you have dry areas on your face but experience excess oil at the same time, you could well be one of the millions, billions even, with combination skin. The problem is it can be tricky to figure out how to care for your skin properly considering that different parts of your face have different needs! The good news is however that you can indeed perfectly balance your combination skin by following a few tips and tricks!Read on a we explain the tell-tale signs of combination skin, what exactly causes it and how best to care for it. Your t-zone is oily, while your cheeks are dry Combination skin tends to display certain characteristics – excess oil, large pores, shine, and blackheads on the forehead, nose and chin (otherwise known as the T’zone) this is due to over-active oil glands in these areas, and then dryness, dullness, fine line and wrinkles elsewhere (predominantly on your cheeks). As a result, it’s very important for those of us with combination skin to regulate sebum and oil production along the T-zone so be sure to steer clear of greasy, creamy products as they will be too rich for your skin and may lead to clogged pores, at the same time though you don’t want to use products that can dry out your skin in turn activating even more oil production! The goal is to treat both oily and dry areas at the same time for a clear, balanced complexion!Solution:Multi-mask your skin once a week! Apply a moisturising mask to your dry areas and an oil-absorbing charcoal or clay mask to your oily T-zone. It’ll do wonders for combination skin. It’s tricky to soak up excess oil without over-drying the skin but products containing charcoal and clay do just that! They work by attracting and absorbing dirt and oil. As a lightweight natural ash residue hydrocarbon, charcoal easily pulls toxins out of the skin for a clean, purified, and healthy complexion as it restores a normalized cellular function. Try Pevonia’s Pure Skin Charcoal Mask. Apply once a week to oily areas of your skin and watch it work its magic. You get breakouts in the oily area of your face Thanks to excess oil production in the t-zone, combination skin can often lead to breakouts when the pores get clogged.Solution: To fight these breakouts, we suggest using a salicylic acid-based cleanser like Medicalia Clarifying Cleanser which provides pore-clearing benefits in a super gentle lather that won’t dry out the skin, stripping it of moisture. We also love Phytomer’s’ Oligopur Blemish Target Gel, it’s a phenomenal spot treatment which targets blemishes with precision, rapidly improving the skin’s appearance and eliminating spots almost overnight! Your oily-to-dry skin ratio tends to change dependant on the season With combination skin, your oily-to-dry ratio tends to vary with a change in seasons. During summer the heat and humidity cause oil production to increase, causing your T-zone to feel extra oily while your dry areas are actually quite “normal”. During winter, the opposite happens this is because environmental exposure sucks moisture from your skin which means your T-zone will appear “normal” while your dry areas will look really dry.Solution:Use Pevonia Balancing Combination Skin Cream, it’ll keep your skin perfectly balanced all year round no matter what the weather. With a subtle lemongrass scent to die for and a soothing, silky texture which perfectly dissolves into skin on application, this moisturiser is a BC best-seller for very good reason! Perfect for those with combination skin, prone to oily t-zones, it effectively refines pores and controls oil and shine with skin nourishing ingredients including vitamin e, arnica and aloe. Get ready for smooth, soft and supple skin minus the excessive oil and congestion that it brings! Yes! You have enlarged pores on your nose, chin and forehead Unfortunately the more oily your skin (thank you overactive oil glands in our forehead, nose and chin area!) the more prone this area is to clogged pores. When sebum builds inside pores, they expand giving them an enlarged appearance!Solution: You can reduce the appearance of these pores by following a number of tips. Your makeup always looks patchy! That’s right, your makeup looked flawless when you left the house but come midday it’s slid straight off your t-zone and clung to those cheese of yours looking like a patchwork piece!Solution: Apply a hydrating and mattifying makeup primer before your foundation.A good skin primer will become your lifeline. Not only will it stop your foundation from sliding off your face quite literally, it’ll keep your base smooth while reducing the appearance of pores (and fine lines!) too!Our go-to is the ELES Pore Perfecting Face Primer. It’s oil-free, perfectly lightweight and seems to combat shiny areas on your skin almost instantly! This is because it contains a natural dermat complex which enables it to absorb oil and effectively reduce pores size in one hit! Outstanding for those of us with oily T-Zones!The good news is it’s also formulated with nourishing ingredients to keep the dryer parts of your skin happy too! So now you know you definitely have combination skin, what exactly causes it you might wonder…Like with all skin types, genetics play a major role so you can thank your parents for the skin you’ve landed! It’s not all their fault though! Environmental factors as well as your lifestyle choices play a large part too. For instance, prolonged humid conditions in the summer months cause sweat glands to produce more sweat leaving the skin moist and shiny, whereas prolonged heat causes skin to dehydrate resulting in dryness! And then let’s not forget those darn hormones of ours that can play havoc on our skin during certain times of the month! Skin issues can be exacerbated by our hormones. Your sebaceous glands (sebum) have receptors on them which respond to our hormones. The more testosterone produced, the more oil is produced in the skin!
skincare layering for smaller pores

Want smaller pores? Here’s how

by Jo Boyden on Jun 03 2022
You might not think it, but enlarged pores is one of the most common skin concerns and how to reduce them, one of the most googled skincare questions too – in fact How do I reduce the size of my large pores? has almost 3 billion hits! Crazy right? But not really when we are a nation obsessed with pore size!Well, if you are one of the millions, billions even, that need help with your pores, keep reading, as we have the answers. Firstly, though what exactly are pores and what is their purpose?Essentially pores are an opening on the surface of our skin. In fact, they are tiny openings around our hair follicles and oil glands that help sebum (our body’s natural oils) move through the surface of your skin. When the sebum is released to the skins surface it helps keep it naturally moisturised, so while their appearance, if enlarged, can be frustrating, pores are actually helpful for maintaining skin health! What causes enlarged pores?Believe it or not, our pore size is genetically determined (thanks parents!) but, oily skin, sun damage and aging are other factors that can make your pores look bigger. For instance, if oil, toxins, dirt, and makeup collect in the pore, they can weigh it down and stretch it! And as we age the skin around our pores become less elastic as our bodies start to produce less elastin and collagen (the proteins that actually strengthen the walls of our pores making them tighter), so the already stretched pores can stay stretched as well as sag, this in turn can cause pores to expand and therefore become much more visible! Also, when we are hormonal our bodies can produce more oil, this can make pores appear larger than they really are because the excess sebum collects on the skin’s surface magnifying these small openings. How can we shrink our pores? While you can't actually get rid of your pores or change the size of them even – eek! You can minimize their appearance by following a specific skincare routine, making a few lifestyle changes and introducing pore minimizing products and/or treatments. Keep reading to learn more… Choose makeup wisely – opt for mineral formulations Unfortunately, our makeup can make pores seem bigger than they actually are. Products like our powders and foundation can settle into our pores over the course of the day, making them appear larger, so your best bet because, let’s face it we aren’t going to want to forego our miraculous makeup, is to opt for mineral products! Use a makeup primer A makeup primer not only helps your makeup stay in place all day, but it also smooths and fills the surface of the skin which can help reduce the appearance of enlarged pores. We love ELES Cosmetics Pore Perfecting Face Primer. It’s a game changer for those with large pores! It’s oil-free, perfectly lightweight and seems to combat shine almost instantly. It contains a natural Dermat Complex which enables it to absorb oil and effectively reduce pore size in one hit Genius. Cleanse your skin morning and evening If you want to help minimise the appearance of your pores it’s essential to keep your skin clean by cleansing morning and night to remove any excess oil, dirt and makeup. Be mindful of what type of cleanser you choose though as the best ones will get rid of dirt and grime without stripping your skin of moisture. If your skin is oily look for gel-based cleansers like Pevonia’s Phyto-Gel Cleanser. It deeply cleanses the skin with a luxurious foaming consistency. It works by removing the excess and unnecessary oil from the skin’s surface, unclogging pores and ridding it of impurities and surface toxins. If you have a normal to dry complexion, you’ll benefit best from creamy cleansers. Try Phytomer’s Perfect Visage Gentle Cleansing Milk, it’s creamy texture melts on your skin to gently remove makeup and impurities without disturbing the skin’s protective barrier.Just remember too much cleansing can actually cause your pores to produce more oil though and we don’t want that! Exfoliating your skin is a necessity Exfoliating 1-3 times a week in order to remove dead cells and unclog pores is a must! Exfoliators with AHA’s and BHA’s (hydroxy acids) such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid and salicylic acid are best. These are the holy grail of ingredients when it comes to penetrating and cleaning out your clogged pores, and clogged pores look bigger, fact. So by unblocking them you are already halfway there in terms of reducing their size. While all four acids exfoliate on a cellular level, Glycolic, Citric and Lactic works on a more surface level to brighten and smooth your skin, whereas Salicylic Acid penetrates much deeper to effectively remove dead skin cells clogged in pores. Minimise sun exposure UV radiation breaks down our collagen and elastin, which in turn leads to saggy pores which expands pore size! So minimising your exposure to the sun is a must. Never skip wearing your sunscreen, even on cold, cloudy days Sunscreen is a necessity for everyone no matter your skin type! Overexposure to the sun is not only the cause of premature ageing and cancer even, it can also dry out skin making pores look bigger. You can also choose foundations that contain SPF in them like ELES’s Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation SPF 15. Make sure you do a weekly face mask Clay masks are best. They can help remove oil, dirt, and dead skin deep inside your pores to make them look smaller. Phytomer’s CityLife Radiance Reviving Mask is our go-to. This unique cream-mousse mask instantly counters dehydration, signs of fatigue, dark spots and enlarged pores. Combining 100% natural red and white clays, blue microalgae, red algae and a comprehensive depolluting complex of 3 marine sugars, it reveals luminosity, radiance and refined pores after just one application! Never fall asleep with your make up Falling asleep with your makeup on is detrimental to your skin, fact. Failing to remove makeup at the end of every day is a major missed opportunity for skin to be able to regenerate while you sleep, you see not removing your makeup means the skin ceases to breathe freely and pores clog. This can make them look larger than life the next day when you awake! That’s why it’s so important to wash your makeup off at night, no matter how tired you are or how late you get home. For added benefit, you can also use a makeup-removing product before cleansing, such as Vie Collection’s Micellar Water. It purifies, conditions and cleanses your complexion in one easy step gently removing makeup from your lips, eyes and face for a fresh and flawless appearance.. Make sure you moisturise daily even if your skin is oily Those who have oily skin tend to suffer from oversized pores. The problem is though that one of the most common mistakes people with oily skin make is to skip out on moisturiser for fear that it will add more oil to their face. Moisturising actually helps your natural sebum penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin though. This not only reduces the appearance of oiliness, but it also helps to condition your skin effectively. Without it, your skin could produce even more oil. And finally use a pore perfecting moisturiser When it comes to large pores, the key is to choose a pore-minimizing moisturiser as they work by stimulating and plumping the collagen that surrounds pores.Yes it’s a thing! If you aren’t already using one, you simply must now. Formulated to quite literally refine pores for a smoother, flawless complexion free of shine you won’t believe the results. Our go-to is Pevonia’s Age Correction Micro-Pores Refine Cream. If you’ve been suffering from pimples or all out acne for some years now, or have recently noticed a sudden change in your once clear, smooth skin, you are not alone. Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, even in adults, and is unfortunately triggered by a number of factors, from hormones to stress, excess oil production, bacteria, blocked pores and more! While acne can range in severity, we’re talking anything from whiteheads to large cysts, there are several steps you can take to try to reduce, or in some cases eliminate the condition all together - from specialised skincare to calm inflammation, eradicate impurities, remove toxins and alleviate symptoms, to something as simple as making a few lifestyle changes! Read on as we reveal the best tips and beauty products to help combat acne, as recommended by the experts. Use skincare specifically designed to target acne If you’ve been searching for a science-backed acne treatment that both targets and treats blemishes, look no further, you’ll find all you need in BC’s high-end acne products. From cleansers to moisturisers, spot creams to facial masks, each of the products are formulated with skin loving ingredients that’ll specially target blemishes of all kinds. And if you ask any skincare expert, when it comes to acne, they swear by a couple of skin-saving ingredients - salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.Powerhouse salicylic acid dissolves the bonds that hold dull, dead skin cells on the surface of the skin so the skin will gently shed, revealing smoother, brighter skin underneath, while super ingredient Benzoyl peroxide is helpful for treating acne not only because it kills bacteria that contribute to acne, but because it helps prevent and clear out clogged pores too! The best Cleanser – Medicalia Clarifying CleanserThe key to fighting persistent breakouts is to find a high-impact cleansing product that will help to clear up your skin while thoroughly cleaning it.Formulated with both lactic and salicylic acids to deeply penetrate pores, remove dead skin cells, and eliminate toxins, surface bacteria, and makeup, Medicalia’s Clarifying Cleanser is a must! It provides skin with a super gentle lather that won’t dry out the skin like some acne treatments do! The best Exfoliator – Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant with Natural EnzymesWhether your acne is mild or more severe, regular exfoliation will smooth and soften the skin and brighten your complexion. It also helps reduce breakouts by keeping the pores from becoming clogged with the pus of dead cells and sebum (skin oil).We are talking gentle exfoliation though! People often think daily “scrubbing” will prevent blackheads, but it can actually increase the shedding of skin cells therefore causing further clogging on the pores! Make sure you use exfoliators that don’t require physical scrubbing. The BC experts highly recommend Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant with Natural Enzymes. To keep your skin clear and pimple-free, prevent breakouts by attempting to avoid the following foods; Refined grains and sugars Dairy products Fast food Chocolate Whey protein powder Instead indulge in foods such as almonds, blueberries, avocados and kidney beans as they are among a range of foods which may help to reduce and prevent inflammation. The thing is sweating can actually help dislodge blocked pores! You just need to make sure you cleanse your skin straight after exercising and before the sweat has had time to dry! Exercise is also imperative for optimum skin health, by exercising we increase blood flow, by increasing blood flow we help nourish skin cells and keep them vital. Exercise has also been accountable for reducing stress-related acne. Always remove your makeup before bed It doesn’t matter how tired you are, removing your makeup is paramount! While you are asleep at night, your skin isn’t! It’s actually the time your skin recharges, repairs and recuperates!
