under eye crepiness

Top tips to improve under eye crepiness

by Jo Boyden on Sep 01 2023
If like me, you’re in your 40’s (or older), you may have fallen victim to under eye crepiness – that undesirable loose, wrinkled skin that can make you look tired, but also older than you actually are! This is because as we age the collagen and elastin levels in our skin starts to decline, as it does the delicate skin around our eyes (one of the first and most prevalent areas to show premature ageing) becomes dryer and thinner, and well crepey! Luckily all is not lost though! There are a number of steps you can take to improve its appearance, and we aren’t talking chemical peels, dermal fillers, laser and Botox, no siree, we are all about natural, non-intrusive alternatives. Keep reading as we reveal them all!Firstly though, why might you be more susceptible to under eye crepiness? The most common cause of fine lines, wrinkles and crepey skin under your eyes is unfortunately ageing, which can of course be influenced by genetics (thank you Mum and Dad!) But other common contributing factors which may be possible to avoid include;UV radiation – exposure to UV rays accelerates the breakdown of collagen leading to premature ageing, this is why it’s essential to protect our peepers! If you don’t wear sunnies every single day like you do your sunscreen, you should now!Smoking – smoking exposures your skin to extra oxidative stress, in turn damaging its collagen and elastin. Smoking also constricts the blood vessels under your eyes by blocking circulation to your blood vessels and depriving your skin of necessary vitamin A.Environmental factors - environmental factors, such as dry weather, wind, and pollution can all contribute to undereye ageing.Pulling repetitive expressions – well I’m definitely guilty of this! Facial expressions, like smiling, frowning, and furrowing your brow, can cause fine lines to develop prematurely around your delicate eye area. Eek!Even the way we sleep can have a negative impact on our eyes! What you might say? Yup, if you sleep with your face buried in your pillow (guilty as charged) you are likely to be more prone to premature fine lines, wrinkles and eye crepiness, than those that don’t! Aghhh. How can you improve undereye crepiness?Although crepey skin will not disappear overnight, it can be drastically improved with time, the right anti-aging products, as well as lifestyle changes. It can take weeks or even months to see results, but by following these top 10 tips you can bid adieu to that saggy, sullen, crepey skin under your eyes. Stay hydrated. All. The. Time. Yes, you’ve heard it a million times before, drink all the water. Hydration is key my friends. Make sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day (we’re talking 8 glasses minimum). When you drink water, it’s like giving your skin a drink from the inside out too (and that water has to nourish all your other vital organise too! Treat sunscreen like is your BFF Never underestimate the power of sunscreen. Those harmful UV rays are a major contributor to premature aging. So, slather on that sunscreen every morning, even on cloudy days. Your future self will thank you!Not a huge fan of sunscreen? We get it. Soo many sunscreens feel greasy, don’t smell great or simply don’t sit well on our skin, and then there are those thick white sunscreens that look like a paste when applied too! That’s why we love the ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection SPF 50. It’s not greasy but instead silky soft, the scent isn’t unpleasant, and it applies beautifully to my skin. And thanks to its formulation its helps nourish and restore skins luminosity too, not to mention it’s high SPF of 50! Invest in an eye cream rich in hyaluronic acid and use it day and night Investing in a good quality eye cream that's packed with hydrating and skin-loving ingredients including hyaluronic acid and peptides will do wonders for ageing eyes. Gently pat the product around your eyes morning and night for that extra boost of moisture and optimal results. For more on the benefits of using hyaluronic acid under your eyes and our 3 favourite eye treatments click here. Add a gemstone facial roller to your daily beauty routine The roller will, not only help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, when used correctly, it can dramatically reduce puffiness by moving excess fluid around your eyes towards your lymph nodes where it filters out the toxins too. Cool right? To find out more about the facial rollers and how to use them click here. Introduce tea time for your eyes Tea isn’t just for drinking you know, it’s also good for soothing your eyes too! Try placing cold tea bags (caffeine free, herbal tea is best!) on your closed eyes for a few minutes. The tannins in tea can help tighten the skin and reduce puffiness too! Consider practicing eye massage Light massage with your ring finger can improve bloody circulation and actually help your skin appear smoother. Remember gentle, gentle though as applying too much pressure to already thin, delicate skin can have the adverse effect! Give your eyes a rest from screen time Increased time in front of your laptop and on your phone can reap havoc with your precious peepers. In fact, spending just two consecutive hours on a digital device can cause eyestrain or fatigue while overexposure to blue light also suppresses the release of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep, therefore disrupting our normal sleep pattern. And we all know poor sleep can lead to premature ageing, especially around the delicate eye area! Make healthy lifestyle choices Your overall health reflects on your skin, including the delicate eye area. Eat a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids. And if you're a smoker, consider kicking the habit – smoking accelerates skin aging like nobody's business. Using gentle cleansing is a must Be kind to your skin when you cleanse but also never skip on cleansing, it’s a must, just be sure to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser that doesn't strip away your skin's natural oils. Harsh cleansers can contribute to dryness and crepiness. Try Medicalia’s Gentle Cleanser. Introduce cold compress magic Incorporate cold compresses into your routine. Applying a cold, damp cloth or chilled spoons over your eyes for a few minutes can help reduce puffiness and refresh your skin. Keep skin hydrated Invest in a good hydrating mist. A quick spritz throughout the day can give your skin the moisture it craves, helping to minimize crepiness. We love Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist. It’s one of my all time favourites. Make sure you get enough Zzzz’s Beauty sleep is real people! After all it’s not dubbed beauty sleep for nothing! Make sure you're getting enough restful sleep each night. Elevate your head slightly with an extra pillow to prevent fluid from pooling around your eyes, which can lead to puffiness and crepiness. Upgrade your pillow case If you are one for sleeping with your face in the pillow, you might want to consider switching up your cotton pillowcase to a silk or satin alternative instead.Silk has natural moisturising properties to retain moisture around the eyes. The dense weave of the silky-smooth fibres also keep moisture close to your skin, this extra moisture can help to reduce dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles.Just remember, Rome wasn’t built in day, and your under-eye skin won’t transform overnight either sadly (if only!) Be patient and be religious with these steps and you’ll be waking up to smoother, brighter and younger looking eyes soon!
Beauty Collective - WInter Beauty Essentials

6 winter beauty essentials we’re currently coveting

by Jo Boyden on Aug 10 2023
As someone who loves the warm, sultry months of summer, I always find it hard adjusting to the dry, cold air of winter, and this is coming from the person who spent 25 years living in the UK! I guess I just don’t like the way my skin goes from dewy and glowy to dehydrated and drab in just a matter of months.Cold days, zero humidity and artificial heating we all become accustomed to in winter, can put undue stress on our skin, leading to a dry, lifeless or super sensitive complexion! So when our skin starts to change, as a result of the change in season, it’s time to up the ante and incorporate new beauty products in your daily routine – winter companions your skin now needs. We’ve listed our go-tos, 6 beauty essentials we are currently coveting this winter, the products we know will take your skin from dry, dull and irritated to nourished, glowy and perfectly protected in next to no time. Pevonia Age Correction Marine Collagen CreamIf Hyaluronic Acid doesn’t already feature in your daily skincare routine, it should now! When it comes to dehydration, (which by the way is the no. 1 skincare issue during winter) the first product you should double down on is hyaluronic acid skincare! This is because hyaluronic acid is ‘The Don’ when it comes to hydration.Pevonia’s Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream isn’t just formulated with collagen, it’s packed with Squalane, Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid too! It’s the perfect combination of rich but light and literally infuses skin with moisture replenishing vital nutrients. I love, love, love this product (in fact all year round!) and when combined with Pevonia’s Age Correction Intensifier Collagen & Myoxy Caviar, this powerful duo deliver radiant, moisture-rich skin.Pevonia Vitaminic ConcentrateI’m a huge advocate for face oils in winter. Not only do they calm and nourish skin, more importantly they strengthen the skin’s barrier which in winter can be seriously compromised. Due to their oily nature, face oils are wonderful for layering over the skin for intense hydration and protection.Remember face oils are for everyone, so don’t be scared to use them. For many years now I have turned to my faithful friend Pevonia’s Vitaminic Concentrate during the winter months and I can honestly say it’s a game-changer for my skin. It’s a luxurious dry oil (so absorbs very fast!) with a mandarin aroma which is to die for, and it radically combats excessive dryness, dehydration, and premature aging all in one!ELES Cosmetics Age Defying BB Cream 30If your skin is dull and lacking life you want to choose a foundation with hydrating and skin brightening benefits. After all your foundation should enhance your complexion, not mask it. This winter look to switching up your foundation for one formulated with hyaluronic and Vitamin A, these key ingredients will help skin appear more hydrated, plumped and healthy! We love ELES’s Age Defying BB Cream 30 for so many reasons! It’s a multi-tasking miracle! It literally primes, tints, nourishes, protects, blurs and evens out your skin tone for a truly, natural, flawless finish. And thanks to its skin-loving ingredients over time it helps to promote cell health, strengthen elasticity, reduce the appearance of fine lines and restore that natural glow you once donned! What’s more, you’ll feel as though you aren’t even wearing makeup oh and it provides skin with the necessary SPF 30 sun protection which is just as imperative in the cooler winter months as it is in summer!ELES Cosmetics Baked BlushWe are all on a quest for that healthy youthful glow, especially in the winter months when it’s almost non-existent, so blush is a must! Just a few swipes of blush will not only add colour and depth to your cheeks but can make your entire complexion look healthier, and your skin more youthful. It adds an extra glow that bronzer and highlighter just can’t mimic. We highly recommend the ELES Baked Blush in a shade of your preference – my current favourite is Posey. It adds instant radiance to your cheeks thanks to its highly pigmented formula. Plus, it’s silky smooth and super nourishing, great for dull, dehydrated skin types!Just be sure to apply it correctly – use a Blush Brush and lift colour upwards towards your temple from the apple of your cheek. You won’t regret introducing this little staple!Pevonia Dry Oil Body MoisturiserOften, we become lazy when it our bodies in winter! Neglecting the areas of our skin we have become accustomed to looking after in warm summer months! However, during winter, the skin on our bodies becomes just as dry and lacklustre as the skin on our face! And I’m sure none of us like that uncomfortable, itchy feeling every evening when we’ve indulged in a hot shower or bath but not bothered to moisturise after! We get it though, not everyone is a fan of rich body moisturisers that can leave your skin feeling a little on the sticky side! Cue Pevonia’s international best-selling body product (and one of our all-time favourites) the Dry Oil Body Moisturiser! Even though it’s a ‘dry oil’ it literally indulges and nourishes skin without leaving an oily or greasy feeling, at all! This is because it absorbs immediately into skin leaving it feeling silky soft and supple after every application instead! If you apply it straight after the shower while your skin is still a little damp, you’ll lock in moisture and reap in the benefits too. Plus it’ll restore any moisture lost from standing under that super-hot water I mentioned earlier that many of us I’m sure love to indulge in, in the cold winter months! Guilty as charged!Phytomer Oleocreme Ultra-Nourishing Hand CreamOur hands often bear the brunt of the winter chill, this is why a good hand cream is an absolute essential for me in winter, and hey why shouldn’t we look after our hands as we do our face? The thing is before I discovered Phytomer’s Oleocreme Ultra-Nourishing Hand Cream I hated the feel of wearing hand cream and I’d want to wash my hands immediately after I’d applied it, so instead I used to bear the brunt of dry cracked skin! Not anymore! My favourite hand cream (and I’ve tried many) absorbs into skin immediately and intensely nourishes, soothes and softens my dry, damaged hands. I take it everywhere I go!
Beauty Collective - Jade Roller

Face Roller – the perfect skincare addition

by Jo Boyden on Aug 04 2023
Gemstone 'jade' rollers. They aren’t a new beauty trend, in fact people have been using this massage tool since the 7th century! Originated in ancient China, jade rollers were then considered to be a precious gemstone with anti-ageing superpowers, and jade ‘rolling’ was a skincare ritual reserved for the elite, however in recent years it appears that every skincare fanatic, beauty blogger and industry expert has started to rave about them, and not just jade rollers per se, but gemstone rollers, a range of face rollers made of semi-precious stones that include jade, but also amethyst, obsidian, rose quartz and more. If you haven’t tried using a jade roller, or gemstone roller should I say, you might be wondering what all the fuss is about, after all, do these tools of the trade really deserve a spot in your skincare routine? Especially when you feel overwhelmed with the products and tools you already use! In short though the answer is yes! And we are going to tell you why! Firstly what is a jade roller? A jade roller is a skincare tool made from a smooth, naturally cool gemstone called jade. It typically consists of a larger stone for the cheeks, forehead, and neck, and a smaller stone for more delicate areas like the under-eye and around the nose. But why should you consider adding this seemingly simple tool to your extensive collection of serums and creams? Because of their many benefits…. What are the benefits of using a jade roller? They are an amazing massage tool Facial massage is not only a way to indulge your skin, it also provides skin with numerous benefits. But instead of just using your fingers, what better way to massage your face than with a gemstone roller! The gentle massaging action not only feels amazing (like you’re enjoying a facial in your favourite spa), it also helps stimulate facial muscles (which can help tighten your skin), relieve tension, and improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. They help reduce puffiness The healing properties and natural coolness of the gemstone can help constrict blood vessels, effectively reducing puffiness and inflammation on your face, especially around the eyes and cheeks. No more tired, puffy face in the mornings! They help relieve stress and induce relaxation We all know that stress can take a toll on our skin, leading to breakouts and premature aging. But incorporating a jade roller into your skincare routine can be a game-changer in combating stress. The rhythmic rolling motion helps relax facial muscles, releasing tension and promoting an overall sense of calm. It's like giving your face a mini meditation session! They help boost the effectiveness of your skincare products If you are guilty of investing in expensive skincare products but maybe not seeing the desired results, here's a little secret: gemstone rollers can enhance your product absorption game. After applying your favourite serum, moisturiser or oil, simply roll the gemstone over your skin. The roller's massaging action allows those potent ingredients to penetrate deeper into your skin (really!) maximizing their effectiveness. Hello, glowing and nourished complexion! They help reduce the appearance of fine lines While we can't promise that using a gemstone roller will magically erase all your wrinkles, regular use can improve skin's elasticity, leading to a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles over time. They are a natural and non-invasive approach to younger looking skin In a world full of high-tech skincare gadgets and invasive procedures, gemstone rollers offer a refreshing alternative. They are gentle, natural, and suitable for most skin types. So, whether you have sensitive, oily, or combination skin, you can roll your way to healthier-looking skin without any worry! How to use a jade roller Thinking about incorporating a gemstone roller into your skincare routine? Ensure you use it gently, avoid applying excessive pressure, and clean it regularly to maintain hygiene. For best results, we recommend cleansing your skin first, then applying a small amount of serum or light oil to your skin. Take your jade roller and start at the chin. Using broad, long strokes roll the jade roller horizontally to the hairline - you should apply slight pressure but not so that it is "pulling" your skin. Then, from the nose, gently roll towards the ear - smoothing the skin under the eyes. Moving up, use the small end of the roller around the corner of the eye, rolling to the temples. Last up, place the roller above the eyebrow and push up towards the hairline. You can also finish by rolling horizontally from the middle of the forehead out towards the temples. How often should you use a Facial Roller? You can use a roller every day for optimum results. If there is a day where you feel like your skin is especially puffy, then morning and evening should work wonders! Don’t forget to regularly clean your roller. Since the tools are being used on your face and can easily spread bacteria, clean them with warm water and soap after use and store in a clean, dry place. From depuffing to boosting product absorption, and providing a relaxing experience, gemstone rollers are the perfect addition to your skincare routine. So, next time you're treating yourself to a self-care session, why not add a little jade rolling action to the mix? Your skin will thank you for it! dry to dewy skin

From Dry to Dewy: The best skincare routine for Dry Skin

by Jo Boyden on Jul 20 2023
Whether you love or loathe cold, winter weather, there is no mistaking the havoc it can cause on our skin. Ever dealt with (or perhaps currently experiencing) dry, flaky patches? Tightness even? Or perhaps it’s a dull lacklustre complexion you have become accustomed too of late! Well, we are here to tell you how you can transform that dry skin of yours to deliciously dewy in next to no time. All you need to do is follow the right skincare routine for dry skin! And stick to it daily. Morning skincare routine for dry skinWhen it comes to the best skincare routine for dry skin, the products you use in the morning will differ from those you apply at night. First and foremost you want to make sure you build a skincare routine rich in moisture, you need to rehydrate that parched skin of yours, but you want to ensure you then keep it nourished and hydrated too!Step 1 - Hydrating CleanserThe first step in any skincare routine is cleansing, but for us dry-skin folks, it's essential to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser. Look for cleansers with a creamy or oil-based formula that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Harsh, foaming cleansers can be our arch-nemesis, so avoid those like the plague!Try Pevonia Hydrating Cleanser. Thanks to its outstanding combination of marine collagen, marine elastin, hyaluronic acid and glycerin, this nourishing, creamy textured cleanser thoroughly removes skin impurities and excess oil without any residue, all whilst helping to preserve your skin’s moisture too!N.B Exfoliation is essential too as you’ll want to rid your skin of any lingering dry, dead, skin cells to make way for the healthy, new cells patiently waiting underneath! How often you exfoliate will depend on the sensitivity of your skin though, so best to start with once a week and use a gentle exfoliating cleanser. This will keep skin brighter and balanced (without stripping away moisture) and will also assist in products such as your serum being able to fully penetrate your skin for optimal end results.Step 2 - Hyaluronic Acid SerumYou might we wondering if you really need a serum in your skincare routine because doesn’t your moisturiser offer enough nourishment? Well I’m here to tell you how necessary a serum really is! Serums are like a shot for the skin. Firstly they tend to perform above and beyond many regular skincare products, this is because they are developed with a higher concentration of targeted active ingredients. Secondly, the purpose of a serum is to target a specific concern. In our case dryness!Incorporate a hyaluronic acid serum into your morning skincare routine, and your skin will thank you for it! Believe me. Hyaluronic acid is a dry-skin superhero! This moisture-binding ingredient can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, leaving your skin feeling hydrated and plump.Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. The ultimate for seriously thirsty skin, this serum eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dehydrated of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. By adding moisture back into your skin, this serum immediately boosts skin’s suppleness and combats ageing in multiple ways thanks to its skin-plumping properties.Step 3 - Eye CreamIf you have dry skin, it's essential not to forget to incorporate an eye cream into your daily routine. The skin around the eye is some of the most delicate on the body, so it needs that little extra TLC that your moisturiser can not provide. In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage. While you might think your moisturiser will suffice, you’d be wrong! Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients to the skin, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia. A hydrating eye cream can help prevent dryness, nourish already present crepiness, and combat signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, undereye puffiness and dark circles! Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, vitamin c, shea butter, collagen and vitamin B as they will help restore the delicate skin and retain moisture.Try Pevonia Evolutive Eye Cream. This anti-ageing eye cream deeply nourishes and renews the delicate under eye area in multiple ways. Protecting your skin from sun damage will make all your other skin care products more effective!Choose a lightweight sunscreen that won't clog pores or cause breakouts. Should you wish to double cleanse, you can do that too!Try using an oil cleanser first followed by a cream cleanser to refresh your skin and leave a dewy finish.Step 2 - Hydrating TonerFollow your face wash with a hydrating toner. Unfortunately, toners are often the forgotten skincare product, usually because people don’t understand their purpose, but they are in fact an essential product in any skincare routine! Why? Because a good toner will not only remove any excess makeup and grime that your cleanser might have missed but it will also prep your skin for the goodness that follows (we are talking ingredients in the rest of your skin care routine!) The best toner for dry skin will pump up hydration but also restore skin, balance pH too.Opt for an alcohol-free, hydrating toner that contains ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin to lock in moisture as well as plump up your skin. Great for anyone with worried about ageing, dehydration or devitalised skin. Step 3 – face mask With so many steps in your daily skincare routine, you might be wondering if masking is really another necessary step, after all, what more can this product do for your skin that your cleanser, toner, exfoliator, serum and moisturiser hasn’t already done? Well, the answer to that is a lot actually! Face masks are in fact an essential part of any skin care routine, and for very good reason. Not only do they help protect your skin from environmental pollutants and other irritants, but they also help to keep skin looking and feeling healthy. They are also a great way to give your skin a boost of nourishment and help to target any skin concerns you may have too., dry skin in this case!Treat yourself to a hydrating face mask once or twice a week. Sheet masks, gel masks and cream masks formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and jojoba oil can work wonders for dry skin. Sit back, relax, and let the mask work its magic!Try Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin Mask. This revitalizing and nourishing mask takes its inspiration from mesotherapy to visibly revitalize the skin. Its formula contains a cocktail of vitamins and hyaluronic acid that ensure beautifully nourished, plumped and radiant skin after every application.Step 4 – Brightening SerumAt night you can either opt for your hyaluronic acid serum again, or change it up with a good vitamin C serum. After all you want to brighten that dull complexion of yours as well and rehydrate it.Try Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe. This product is a-mazing for that perfect pick-me-up. Vitamin C and hydration hero hyaluronic acid, work together to quite literally drench skin with repairing antioxidants, deeply nourishing skin while correcting photo-damage. Not only does it have the most beautiful citrus aroma, when applied skin looks instantly brighter and dewier too!Step 5 - Night CreamWhile you might well love your everyday moisturiser, it’s likely it’s not providing enough nourishment for your skin at night. This is because at night, our skin goes into repair and regeneration mode so a richer night cream formulated with specific ingredients, can make all the difference. In fact, a good night cream will not only sooth and calm skin while you sleep, but also deliver lasting moisture while addressing common skin concerns such as moisture loss and skin ageing! They also help in the skin repair and renewal process by improving cell turnover!Try Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream. This beautifully rich textured cream literally cocoons skin while restoring youthful vitality with a nourishing blend of active marine botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids and conditioning oils.Step 6 - Face OilFor an extra boost of hydration, face oils are a game-changer. Apply a few drops of face oil specifically designed to combat dryness over your moisturiser to seal in moisture and goodness all night long. Not only will your skin drink it up, but you’ll also wake to a radiant, dewy complexion come morning!Try Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate – Fast-absorbing, this soothing, silky anti-oxidant oil radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning. Outstanding stuff! Consistency is key, so stick to this routine and say goodbye to dry, parched, patchy skin for good! Just remember though that skincare isn't just about what you put on your skin—it's also about what you put in your body. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and incorporating water-rich fruits and veggies into your diet.
Beauty Collective - Jo Boyden - Ageless Skin Collagen Mask

I’ve worked in the skincare industry for 22 years, these are the beauty products I’m never without

by Jo Boyden on Jun 21 2023
If you read our blog, you’ll know me well, I’ve been answering your burning questions, talking about the latest trends and writing about all things beauty for years now. In fact I’ve been working at Beauty Collective as their Marketing, PR and Content Manager for 15 years, and have been in the industry for 22! (Eek that makes me sound old!) In that time I have had the fortune (yes I’m very lucky) to trial many a makeup and skincare product, from the newest formulations, to the beauty classics that have stood the test of time! And while it’s always exciting to get my hands on the latest launches, there are certain products I can’t get enough of, the ones I go back to time and time again – all because they keep my thirsty and 43-year-old skin looking younger! We’re talking hydrated, luminous, soft, supple and healthy! Interested in what they are? Keep reading….ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection SPF 50You all know I like to harp on about the importance of sunscreen! Afterall, it’s the only true anti-ageing product out there! Without wearing it, and I’m talking every. single. day (yep even in winter) you will age prematurely! There is no doubt about that. The thing is soo many sunscreens feel greasy, don’t smell great or simply don’t sit well on our skin, and then there are those thick white sunscreens that look like a thick paste so it’s not surprising that many of us shy away from wearing this essential product daily! The great news is my first recommendation isn’t any of those things. It’s not greasy but instead silky soft, the scent isn’t unpleasant, and it applies beautifully to my skin.ELES Age-Defying BB Cream 30If you’re still not sold on the ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection, because let’s face it, it’s still a sun ‘cream’ another love of mine is the ELES BB Cream 30. Instead of slathering my skin in foundation, daily I opt for wearing this beauty. It’s lightweight and is your primer, moisturiser, sunscreen and foundation in one, plus it has SPF of 30 so you can get away with wearing just this instead of having to worry about sunscreen and then your foundation! To learn more about this best-selling beauty read my extensive review here.Pevonia Age Correction Intensifier Collagen and Myoxy CaviarI have been obsessed with this serum for 15 years now and use it religiously. I LOVE foaming cleansers but usually they are formulated for oily skin types so if you have dry skin like me, they can dry it out even more!! But not this one. It’s a lightweight oil cleanser, which has a gel like consistency but when mixed with water foams into a luxurious lather! It’s alcohol and soap free (so not drying at all) and instead rich in lipids for supreme nourishment. But most importantly it cleanses skin like a dream, leaving it radiantly refreshed, soft and supple after every use. Genius.Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing CreamI love a good nourishing night cream and this one has become my firm favourite. It is beautifully silky, yet lightweight (not all night creams need to be rich and heavy) and as soon as I apply the cream, it literally cocoons my skin in nourishing hydration and really does restore youthful glowy vitality by morning. probiotics

What is probiotic skincare and is it effective?

by Jo Boyden on Jun 09 2023
If you keep up with the latest beauty trends, you’ve probably heard about probiotic skincare. It’s been making a buss in the beauty world for a few years now, but how exactly are probiotics good for your skin you might be wondering? Well wonder no more! We’re here to tell you all about probiotic skincare, and why this trend has taken the beauty industry by storm.Firstly though, what are probiotics?Probiotics are living microorganisms such as bacteria or yeast that are good for your health, particularly your digestive system, in fact they are usually associated with promoting gut health and are commonly referred to as “good” or “friendly” bacteria. How are probiotics good for the skin?Probiotics work their magic by helping to balance the skin's natural microbiome, which is essentially a collection of billions of microorganisms living on its surface (eek!) Just like in our digestive system, a healthy balance of bacteria on the skin is crucial for maintaining a strong and resilient barrier against external aggressors. Why choose probiotic skincare?Probiotic skincare offers many benefits for your skin, not matter your skin type. Here are a few reasons why we love probiotic skincare; Probiotic skincare is essential for restoring balance Modern lifestyles, environmental factors, and harsh skincare products can disrupt the delicate balance of our skin's microbiome. Probiotics help replenish and maintain a diverse and healthy microbial community, which in turn supports a stronger skin barrier and a more radiant complexion. It’s great for soothing sensitive skin If you struggle with sensitive or reactive skin, probiotics might become your new best friend. Probiotics can alleviate redness, inflammation, and irritation, providing a soothing effect on the skin. By calming down angry skin, probiotics offer relief to those with conditions like eczema or rosacea. It helps fight acne and blemishes Acne-prone skin often suffers from an imbalance in the microbiome, leading to breakouts and unwanted blemishes. Probiotics have the ability to combat acne by inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria, reducing inflammation, and promoting a healthier skin environment. Probiotics in skincare help to counteract signs of ageing As we age, our skin's microbiome undergoes changes that contribute to the signs of aging. Probiotics have shown promise in supporting collagen production, improving skin elasticity, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They also aid in maintaining moisture levels, giving you a more youthful and plump complexion. Probiotics in skincare actually enhances the efficiency of other active ingredients Adding probiotics to skincare formulations can boost the effectiveness of other active ingredients. Probiotics help create a good environment for these actives to work optimally, ensuring you get the most out of your skincare routine. Now that you know why probiotics are the talk of the town, how can you incorporate them into your skincare routine?Whether you're looking to restore balance, soothe sensitive skin, combat acne, or achieve a more youthful complexion, probiotic skincare will help! Here are our top product recommendations: Best for sensitive, reactive and rosacea prone skinPhytomer Prebioforce Balancing Soothing ConcentrateSpecifically formulated to provide a soothing and calming effect on the skin, this probiotic serum contains ingredients such as marine sugars and marine spring water that help to effectively reduce skin inflammation, redness and sensitivity while strengthening and rebalancing the skin’s immune function. With continued use any discomfort is diminished and your complexion looks more even, healthy and radiant.Best for tired, dull and dehydrated skinPhytomer Oligo 6 Marine Concentrate with Vitamins, Prebiotic Complex and Trace ElementsFormulated with all the benefits of vitamin C, provitamin B5, vitamins B3 and E, Phytomer’s marine prebiotic complex* and OLIGOMER®, the seawater concentrate rich in minerals and trace elements, this moisturising gel is the perfect antidote for tired, dull complexions. Its prebiotic complex rebalances skin microbiota and helps maintain skin immunity while the cocktail of vitamins protects, hydrates and boosts lacklustre skin.Best for oily skin and combination skinPevonia Micro-Pores™ Bio-Active SerumThis light textured gel serum, is formulated with bio-active breakthrough ingredients that help to control oil production, unclog pores, refine and tighten the skin’s texture, providing a more even surface. It also offers anti-ageing benefits, helping to improve skin firmness, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance overall skin radiance. By introducing probiotic skincare into your daily skincare routine will support and nourish your skin’s microbiome, leading to happier, healthier and more radiant skin.
Pre-mature ageing

9 tips for improving your skin’s elasticity

by Jo Boyden on May 24 2023
We are all on the constant quest for youthful and supple skin, after all who doesn’t want to look that little bit younger for a long as possible right? Unfortunately as we age our skin does naturally loose it’s elasticity though (which is what makes it look younger and firmer!) and while there is no stopping this from happening, after all ageing is inevitable, there are several things we can do to improve our skin’s elasticity, and prevent premature ageing. Keep reading as we reveal 9 steps you should follow daily.Firstly though, what exactly is elasticity?Elasticity is our skin’s ability to stretch and then literally bounce to its original shape. It’s what gives our skin that smooth, supple texture. When we’re young, our skin is naturally more elastic, but as we age our production of both elastin and collagen (the proteins responsible for skin elasticity) slows down. This can lead to skin sagging, wrinkles and loss of firmness! What causes our skin to prematurely lose elasticity?Collagen and Elastin begins to decline prematurely due to a number of factors. These include genetics, sun exposure, poor nutrition, pollution and smoking. The good news is that there are a few things you can do to improve your skin’s elasticity, keep reading… Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! And I’m talking the surface of your skin and the water you congest Staying hydrated is crucial for overall skin health, including its elasticity. Drinking enough water helps to keep your skin cells plump and hydrated, which in turn promotes elasticity. Aim for at least eight glasses of water per day and incorporate hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges into your diet.As well as ingesting water to hydrate your skin you also want to hydrate skin topically! The best way to do this is to use skincare products such as moisturisers and serums rich in hydration hero hyaluronic acid! Hyaluronic acid has the ability to deeply penetrate skin to instantly deliver a supple, dewy complexion in a matter of seconds! In fact, it literally binds moisture to skin cells to keep skin smooth, firm, plump, and undeniably radiant! The extra moisture also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles! For everything you need to know about hyaluronic acid and the best hyaluronic acid skincare products, click here. Use skin firming products If you’re worried about ageing and want to improve your skin’s elasticity you need to make sure that your skincare routine incorporates skincare ingredients such as elastin, collagen, peptides, and vitamin c.And we mustn’t forget retinol! Touted the “holy grail of the skincare world” retinol has been shown to boost collagen production and improve skin elasticity. You can find retinol in many skincare products, from creams to serums to prescription-strength options. Just be sure to start slowly and follow the instructions carefully, as retinol can be irritating to some people's skin.We can’t recommend more highly the Pevonia Micro Retinol collection. The collection utilizes a specialized technology to create micro-particles of retinol that get delivered deep into the epidermis. This means complete product absorption, no skin irritation and immediate results.Every product in the Micro Retinol Line contains all-natural micro-retinol®, sourced from green leafy vegetables, combined with a powerhouse duo of vitamin C and vitamin E. The addition of vitamins c and e not only ensures micro-retinol’s stability, but also that the skin’s nutrients and density are renewed and preserved. To find out more about the many benefits of retinol, how to use it and the best retinol products click here. Exfoliate Exfoliating has many benefits including removing dead skin cells, clearing up clogged pores, and rejuvenating flaky skin. After long-term exfoliating, it will help to increase collagen production, resulting in better skin elasticity and a minimized appearance of fine lines. Massage skin regularly Massaging your skin helps to stimulate blood flow and collagen production. Because it stimulates the facial muscles, a massage is like a mini-workout for your face. It engorges the muscles with blood to oxygenate the skin cells and gives “tone” to your muscles.Massage your face with your favourite moisturiser or try massaging with a night oil before bed. You can massage with your fingers or better still use a gemstone facial roller. You won’t regret it! Nourish your skin from within with a balanced diet What you put into your body reflects on your skin. Fact. To improve skin elasticity, focus on a well-balanced diet rich in essential nutrients. Include foods high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, such as berries, leafy greens, avocado and nuts, as they help protect your skin from free radicals that can damage collagen and elastin fibres, crucial for maintaining elasticity! And try to avoid excessive consumption of processed foods, refined sugars, and unhealthy fats, as they can contribute to inflammation and accelerate the aging process. Eek! Sun protection is key We can't stress this enough! Sun damage is one of THE biggest contributors to a loss in skin elasticity. Overexposure to the sun's rays can accelerate collagen breakdown, which leads to loss of skin elasticity and subsequent saggy skin - aghh Make sunscreen (with a broad spectrum of SPF 30 or higher) your best friend, and wear it every. single. day, come rain, hail or shine! Additionally, wear protective clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses to further shield your skin from sun damage. Get moving Exercise does wonders for your overall well-being, and it turns out, it's fantastic for your skin too! Engaging in regular physical activity boosts blood circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. This increased circulation aids in collagen production and supports skin elasticity. So, find an activity you enjoy – whether it's jogging, dancing, or yoga – and make it a part of your daily routine. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Get enough zzzz’s We all know that getting enough sleep is important for our overall health, but did you know it can also improve your skin's elasticity? During sleep, our body produces collagen and repairs any damage that's been done to our skin throughout the day. However when we are sleep deprived, our bodies produce more cortisol, a stress hormone that can actually break down collagen! It’s best to aim for 7-9 hours of sleep a night to give your skin the rest it needs, and consider sleeping on your back to prevent sleep lines and wrinkles caused by constant facial pressure on the pillow. However if you are a dedicated side or tummy sleeper you could invest in a good pillowcase made of silk or satin to reduce friction and prevent those creases while you sleep! Avoid smoking and try to limit alcohol consumption Smoking harms your skin and makes it more susceptible to wrinkles and age spots. Fact. This is because it damages collagen and elastin fibres, leading to accelerated skin ageing and reduced elasticity! So, if you smoke, quitting is the best thing you can do for your skin's health. Excessive alcohol consumption can also dehydrate the skin and contribute to premature aging. We aren’t saying quit alcohol, like smoking, moderation is what’s key, so try to limit your alcohol intake and balance it with an increased water consumption.Just remember improving your skin’s elasticity requires consistency! By following these steps and sticking to them daily you’ll notice a positive change to your skin’s texture and firmness in next to no time (it won’t happen overnight though!)
beauty products we love

9 beauty products we are loving this month

by Jo Boyden on May 17 2023
Even though I’m blessed to be able to try many skincare and makeup products working at BC, I do have my favourite beauty buys, the ones I literally can’t live without now, but for this blog I decided to turn to my colleagues to see what their latest skincare and makeup obsessions are too. Here you’ll find our reviews on the best beauty products that launched this year, as well as the products we’ve rediscovered and fallen back in love with. Phytomer Hydra Continue Radiance Energising Cream“There are a few moisturisers that I simply love and have been in my beauty bag for a long while now, but this cream is the one I can’t get enough of at the moment. It’s a very light moisturiser but seems to offer my dull, thirsty skin just the right amount of moisture it needs. I also love how it not only nourishes my skin but makes it feel calm and soothed too. What’s more, after every use, my skin not only looks and feels beautifully dewy and rejuvenated but it looks visibly radiant too! And bonus - it’s packed to the brim with vitamins and marine ingredients. Outstanding stuff!” Jo Boyden, Marketing, PR & Content ManagerELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50+ “If you are concerned about ageing, there are two essentials you need in your skincare routine – SPF and retinol. In fact if you don’t use SPF, using anti-ageing skincare is a waste of time! This is because UV radiation causes skin damage, premature ageing and of course as we all know, increases the risk of skin cancer. But finding a sunscreen with a high SPF that we love and are happy to use every day can be tricky, because sunscreens can be greasy, the smell can be overbearing, or sometimes the last thing you want is to lather a thick paste on your face! But when we launched ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection I knew I’d found my go-to. I apply it every morning without fail, all year round. It's super light-weight and full of great ingredients that not only protect my skin but prevent hyper-pigmentation and dehydration too. It also gives me a bit of glow which is a bonus.” Liane Scior, Director of Education & MarketingMedicalia Retinol Concentrate“This is my other go to at the moment. I wear it under my moisturiser and apply before bed. It’s packed with a clinically proven blend of peptides, antioxidants and retinol that actively work while you sleep so you wake up to your glowiest skin yet. The more I use it, the more supple and smooth and youthful my skin feels. I have also noticed a dramatic reduction in my pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. This is actually one of those products that even skin professionals, and skin sceptics will tell you is worth the investment.I highly recommend using it in combination with Medicalia Retinol and ‘C’ Care Cream.” Liane Scior, Director of Education & MarketingELES Age Defying BB Cream 30“I love the convenience of this product and wear it whether working in the office, hanging out at home or heading out. Its my primer, sunscreen and foundation in one and because it’s so lightweight and silky soft on application you really don’t feel like you are wearing makeup! I also love how it’s packed with anti-ageing and skin nurturing ingredients so it’s doing good for my skin as opposed to just concealing it! If you are looking for multi-tasking makeup that’ll leave your skin looking flawless and glowy (with a subtle matte finish) this could be your new go-to.” May Scior, Operations AssistantPhytomer Rosee Soin Radiance Replenishing Oil“This oil is amazing and the perfect luxurious treat for your skin at the end of a long day. It is an extremely hydrating yet dry oil that absorbs into my skin quickly creating a beautifully velvety finish but without the greasy residue that so many night oils can leave. And thanks to it’s divine, soothing rose scent every night I use it, it transports me into a totally relaxed state and the next morning I wake to brighter, smoother and revitalised skin, no word of a lie.Honestly if you dealing with dehydrated, dull or sensitive skin even, I couldn’t recommend this product more highly!” Taryn Gray, Brand Co-ordinatorMicro Emulsion Massage Oil Anti Stress“This is my winter go-to and has been for many years. So now the temperature is dropping, it’s out of the cupboard and back in my daily routine once again. I use it as a nourishing body cream/oil especially if I take hot showers as this rehydrates and softens my skin, and when I find the time, I pour it into the bath as a nourishing milk bath, to relinquish pent up tension and fatigue. It was also the perfect product to use during pregnancy as it helped prevent any stretchmarks from forming! Even though it’s an oil, it’s doesn’t remain greasy and the scent is like you have just walked into a day spa. Bliss.” Kellie Deveney, International Educator and Business Development ManagerCleanRefresh Foaming Oil Cleanser“We all know it’s important to cleanse our skin every day, so I’ve tried rather a few cleansers in my time, but this one is THE best cleanser I have ever used.It has a gel-like texture but as soon as you add water it foams up beautifully on my face, which I love as it feels like it’s really purifying my skin and removing the day's grime and makeup. Plus it leaves my skin feeling really clean, super smooth and not dry at all (which many foaming cleansers can do). What’s more, since I’ve been using it my skin has been smoother and blemish free.” Elaine Palapag, Social Media Co-ordinator Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist“I love, love, LOVE this mist! I was lucky enough to trial it before we launched it on BC and it’s quickly become a must-have in my everyday skincare routine. I’ve never been one for face mists, but this is next level. I use it first thing in the morning to revitalise my skin and replenish it with any moisture that’s been lost overnight, then again after I’ve applied my makeup as it’s an awesome setting spray, I then spritz it on my face throughout the day when my skin needs a pick-me-up, which I find is essential when I’m in the office with the heating pumping, and then again at night after I’ve applied my serum and moisturiser to finish off the perfect night routine. Not only does it make my skin feel super moist and dewy but it really does awaken my senses too.N.B Since it’s formulated with not only Hyaluronic Acid, but a blend of ultra-calming Chamomile, Aloe, Green Tea and aromatic essential oils too, it makes this powerhouse product ideal for all skin types, especially dehydrated, irritated, and ageing skin!” Taryn Gray, Brand Co-ordinatorPhytomer Night Recharge Youth-Enhancing Cream“I LOVE night creams, the silkier and richer the better I say and having tried many night creams in my time working in the industry, this is definitely one of the best night creams in for any skin care routine, hands down (big call I know!) Its texture is like silk, and it literally melts into skin as soon as you apply, cocooning it in nourishing hydration (so my skin gets all the benefits of this cream’s marine botanicals while I sleep!) The next morning my skin is literally glowing and smooth as a baby’s bottom! OBSESSED.” Jo Boyden, Marketing, PR & Content Manager And there you have it! sheet mask

Everything you need to know about sheet masks

by Jo Boyden on May 12 2023
If you’re not familiar with sheet masks or you simply haven’t had a chance to try one yet, you might be wondering what all the hype is about when it comes to this popular skincare trend. After all why not just stick to a traditional cream mask right? The thing is like all masks, sheet masks offer a multitude of benefits and are a great place to start if you are new to this vital step in your skincare routine. And no, sheet masks aren’t a new phenomenon, in fact they’ve been around for decades, but finally they are getting the wrap they deserve and for very good reason. From what they are to their many benefits, keep reading as we reveal everything you need to know about sheet masks. What are sheet masks? Different to your traditional cream masks, sheet masks are single-use face masks made out of a thin, often cotton or paper-like material designed to fit over your face. The sheet is cut to fit the shape of your face (with holes for the eyes, nose and mouth) and is soaked in a serum or essence. These serums are typically packed with all kinds of beneficial ingredients, like hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and antioxidants, that are designed to penetrate deeply into the skin and provide a variety of benefits. Why are sheet masks good? Sheet masks are seriously good for your skin for a number of reasons, in fact they provide the perfect balance of skincare and pamper! They are a great way to provide your skin with a big boost of hydration, nourishment and other skincare benefits. One of the great things about sheets masks is that they come in a number of formulations too – such as brightening and anti-ageing - so you can choose one that's tailored to your specific skin concerns. The sheet itself also helps to lock in the moisture and active ingredients, allowing for better absorption and therefore effectiveness.Another great thing about sheet masks is that they provide a relaxing and pampering experience, a weekly self-care ritual, which let’s face it we could all do with! This is because they literally force you to take some ‘me time’, a break from your daily routine to sit back and zone out for 15-20 minutes while the sheet does its thing to your skin! It’s like having a mini spa session in the comfort of your own home, who wouldn’t love that! And the end result? You feel better and your skin certainly looks it too! Finally sheet masks are relatively affordable and incredibly easy and convenient to use (just open sachet, unfold the mask, apply it to your face and wait for it to work its magic!) They are also great for travel or on-the-go use as they’re lightweight (they come in single sachets) and take up very little space. Are sheet masks right for your skin? Sheet masks can be beneficial for all skin types but like with any skincare product its important to choose the right one for your specific skin concerns. If you have reactive or sensitive skin just be cautious and be mindful of the ingredients and avoid sheet masks that contain fragrances or essential oils which can be irritating to some sensitive skin. Here are our top picks; Sensitive skin If your skin is on the sensitive side look for sheet masks enriched with soothing and cooling ingredients such as aloe, green tea, lavender, and tea tree to help nourish and calm your skin while reducing any inflammation. We LOVE the ELES Calming and Soothing Sheet MaskAgeing skin If you have mature skin, opt for sheet masks that contain ingredients such as, collagen, peptides or retinol, which can help to improve skin texture and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Try the ELES Youth Recovery Sheet Mask Not only will it improve skin’s texture and help with tackling any premature lines and wrinkles, it also helps to brighten and even skin tone.Dry, dull, discoloured skin And if you’re dealing with dryness, dehydration, discolouration and dullness and could do with an instant pick-me-up, as well as boost of hydration, a sheet mask that contains nourishing and brightening ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin c or niacinamide is the way to go! We highly recommend the ELES Hydrating and Brightening Sheet Mask, it’s fantastic! It plumps the skin from within, radically reducing moisture loss, plus extra bonus it helps to prevent hyperpigmentation and give your skin a fabulous, healthy glow. Oily and blemished prone skin If you are prone to oily skin and breakouts a purifying sheet mask should be your go-to because it helps absorb excess oil, unclog pores, and remove impurities. We can’t get enough of the Purifying Sheet Mask from ELES, infused with clarifying ingredients like charcoal and nourishing, calming and anti-ageing ingredients including hyaluronic acid, centella asiatica, camellia sinensis leaf extract and aloe, it reduces shine, hydrates skin, soothes inflammation, and prevents future breakouts, leaving skin feeling refreshed, balanced, and deeply cleansed. How do you apply sheet masks? Sheet masks are designed to fit over your face. Using one is pretty simple. Here are the steps; Start with clean, dry skin (best to wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat it dry before applying). Take the sheet mask out of its packaging and unfold it. Smooth it onto your face, making sure it’s lined up with your eyes, nose and mouth. Press the sheet mask onto your skin to make sure it’s adhering properly (you want all the ingredients to properly absorb into your skin). Relax for 15-20 minutes and let the mask work its magic. Enjoy the “me” time! Remove the sheet mask. Finally gently massage any remaining serum into the skin (this is often the case as sheet masks are literally drenched in product). That’s it! Now reap in the benefits. Happy masking!
collagen skincare routine

This is why you should use collagen in your skincare routine

by Jo Boyden on May 05 2023
Collagen - we know it’s an essential skincare ingredient and we’ve been told we should incorporate it into our daily skincare routine, but why? Especially when our bodies naturally produce this power protein! In fact 60% of our skin is essentially collagen! The thing is when we’re young, our skin has plentiful amounts of collagen! However as we age our body’s ability to produce it decreases which is not great news as collagen plays a critical role in maintaining healthy skin, hair, nails and joints! It’s an elixir of youth so to speak! But when it starts to diminish, so does our skin and body’s youthfulness too! Cue wrinkles and sagging skin – eek.So, instead of watching your skin head south, it’s important to replenish the collagen we’ve lost, with collagen skincare! Keep reading as we count down the many benefits of adding collagen infused skincare into your everyday beauty routine. Helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles Collagen infused skincare products can help to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Improves skin hydration One of our skin’s main functions is to serve as a barrier between our bodies and the environment. Collagen has the ability to attract and retain moisture in the skin, which can help to improve skin hydration and keep it looking nourished, plump and youthful. Enhances skin elasticity Collagen-infused skincare products can help to improve skin elasticity, by increasing skin’s durability, making it more resilient to damage and less prone to sagging and stretching. Think stronger and firmer skin! Brightens the complexion Collagen can help to promote the growth of new skin cells, leading to a brighter and more even complexion. Reduces hyperpigmentation Collagen can help to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots, leaving the skin looking more even-toned and radiant. Protects against environmental damage Collagen-infused skincare products can help to protect the skin against environmental damage caused by factors such as UV rays and pollution, which can contribute to premature aging. Improves skin texture Just like wrinkles, rough skin can be attributed to damage to the underlying collagen. Collagen peptides can help our body repair and rebuild damaged collagen, leading to a smooth collagen structure that improves the texture of our skin. Fights acne scars What’s worse than dealing with acne, is having scars that are left behind. Acne scars are actually caused by collagen damage in your skin! Supplementing with collagen skincare can speed up collagen formation in the skin, therefore accelerating tissue repair that will heal your acne scars. Now we know the benefits, what are the best collagen products to use?Whole collagen is difficult for the body to digest or absorb, however collagen peptides are significantly more accessible for the body. Collagen peptides, specifically, are made by breaking down collagen into very small pieces. Research has shown that our bodies can absorb collagen peptides of a particularly small size without breaking them down further, and directly use these peptides to build new collagen. Pretty clever hey?Pevonia offer a range of collagen infused skincare formulated with collagen peptides. Including the Power Repair Age Correction Hydrating Cleanser, Hydrating Toner, Collagen and Myoxy Caviar Concentrate and Collagen Cream, each product in the collection works together to replenish the skin with lost of collagen, which effectively combating signs of ageing! The Pevonia Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream is in fact Pevonia’s global best-selling cream and for very good reason. Damaged skin barrier? How to repair and take care of it

by Jo Boyden on Apr 28 2023
If you’re suddenly suffering from dry, irritated and sensitive skin it’s possible your skin barrier could be compromised. Fear not though, a damaged skin barrier can happen to the best of us, even devout skincare enthusiasts! Thankfully it’s possible to fix a damaged skin barrier – as long as you know how! Keep reading as we talk all things skin barrier, from what it is, to how to fix it and the best tips and products to use. Firstly though when exactly is your skin barrier? Our skin barrier is the outermost layer of our skin. You could call it your ‘shield’ as it literally serves as a protective barrier against the outside world! Be it environmental toxins, bacteria, and other harmful substances.Technically knows as the stratum corneum, it’s a complex system of lipids, proteins and cells which not only protects your face from external aggressors but helps retain moisture in your skin keeping it hydrated and healthy too. What causes a damaged skin barrier?Unfortunately our skin barrier can be very fragile and several factors can compromise or damage it, these include; Harsh soaps and skincare products. Using products that contain harsh chemicals can strip the skin of its natural oils and disrupt the skin barrier. Hot water Yes, something as simple as washing your face with water that is too hot can strip the skin of its natural oils leading to dryness and skin sensitivities. Sun exposure Prolonged exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays can seriously damage the skin barrier and lead to premature ageing. Environmental pollutants Everything from air pollution and cigarette smoke to the weather and blue light from our screens can cause havoc with our skin. Genetics Some people are just more prone to skin barrier damage due to their genetics unfortunately, this doesn’t mean you are doomed, it just means you need to be more religious about looking after your skin and using specific skincare products to protect your skin barrier. Age Our ceramide levels decrease significantly as we age so our skin’s ability to hold onto moisture eventually becomes compromised too. What is the best way to repair your skin’s barrier? If your skin barrier is damaged there are several things you can do to repair it including; Use gentle cleansers Choose skincare products that are gentle and free from harsh chemicals. Look for products specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Avoid hot water Always use lukewarm water instead of hot water when washing your face. Make sure you moisturise morning and night Use a moisturiser that is specifically formulated to repair the skin barrier. Look for products rich in ceramides (an essentially fatty molecule called a lipid which holds your skin cells together, without ceramides there is nothing to keep all those hydrating ingredients from evaporating from the skin!). We love Pevonia’s best selling Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream. It rejuvenates skin cells while softening fine lines and wrinkles and replenishing vital nutrients. Avoid harsh skincare products Steer clear from products that contain alcohol, fragrances, and other harsh chemicals. Products your skin from the sun, every single day! Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 will not only help repair your skin but protect it too and not just from damage to your skin’s barrier but premature ageing as well. Avoid smoking Smoking can and will damage your skin’s barrier and lead to premature ageing. Use skincare products that help combat environmental damage on our skin If you live in the city, try using products that have been carefully formulated to combat environmental damage. We love Phytomer’s CityLife Collection. Eat a healthy diet A diet rich in antioxidants and healthy fats can help support the skin barrier and keep it healthy! Stay hydrated Having a damaged barrier often results in a dehydrated complexion from the skin’s deeper layers so it’s vital to replenish that lost moisture with lightweight serums formulated with hydration heroes like hyaluronic acid. Serums have the ability to penetrate deep into the skin layers, whereas moisturisers tend to hydrate the skin’s surface. We highly recommend Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum and Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist for that extra boost of moisture.Drinking plenty of water daily (8 glasses is the recommended amount) is essential too! It will not only help repair damaged skin but help maintain a healthy and hydrated skin barrier once repaired too!
Beauty Collective - healthy glowing skin

These are the dos and don’ts for achieving healthy, glowing skin

by Jo Boyden on Mar 23 2023
We all strive for flawless perfect skin, that beautifully youthful and healthy complexion free of blemishes, dark spots and other signs of ageing, but achieving truly healthy skin requires us to pay consistent care and attention to our skin’s needs, and we aren’t just about our morning skincare routine. There are in fact a multitude of steps we should be taking to help our skin daily. Here are the dos and don’ts to keeping skin looking and feeling great day in and day out. DO cleanse skin every day Cleansing skin is a MUST. In fact, cleansing is the most important step in your skincare routine. Cleansing helps to remove excess oil, dirt and dead skin sitting on your skin’s surface which can contribute to the development of skin problems like spots if left! Daily cleansing also helps to balance your skin’s pH levels which can prevent dryness and irritation. Cleansing will also help enhance product absorption! This means those products such as your moisturiser and serum will be able to penetrate your skin much more effectively and provide maximum benefits! To learn more about the importance of cleansing and how a great cleanser will improve your skin tenfold click here. DO hydrate your skin morning and night Everything we do always takes hydration out of our skin. Wearing makeup, applying cleansers, sweating, drinking alcohol, and the sun! all take moisture out of our skin so it’s super important to not only drink water but to use hydrating products daily too! Make sure you invest in quality hydrating moisturisers, serums and cleansers that will replenish skin with moisture and not dry it out more! And for extra efficiency and penetration of active ingredients remember to moisturise while your skin is still damp after your shower. DO apply sunscreen every. single. day. All year round. It’s easy to think why bother with sunscreen on days when it's a little overcast or raining even, but as I’ve preached many a time before, sunscreen isn’t just a summertime skincare product when it’s hot and the sky is blue, the sun is always there and has the ability to penetrate through those clouds no matter how thick they are! It’s important to remember that wearing sunscreen is THE best protection against skin ageing. Oh, and if you are staying indoors, and happen to work next to a window like me, the sun has the ability to penetrate through the glass to your skin too!And then there is the issue of blue light damage. To read all about it click here. But in short, just like the sun, your devices omit harmful ‘blue light’ rays, so it’s important to wear sunscreen to protect skin against them too! DO exercise regularly Exercising regularly is not only important for your body and overall health and wellbeing, it can also improve the health of your skin. Exercise improves blood circulation and oxygenation to the skin, which in turn helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital. In addition to providing oxygen, blood flow also helps carry away waste products, including free radicals, from working skin cells. So in short regular exercise will keep your skin more supple and youthful in appearance it also imparts a healthy glow! DO eat a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains Fruits and veggies contain powerful antioxidants which help protect our skin from free radical damage (triggered by smoke, pollution etc). When free radicals overpower our skin they trigger oxidative stress which can impact our skin presenting in the form of fine lines, wrinkles, dull, uneven skin tone, dark spots and skin sagging – eek! So make sure you eat that rainbow of fruits and veggies each day and keep premature skin ageing away! DO try to get 8 hours of sleep a night We don’t call it ‘beauty sleep’ for nothing! When we sleep our skin repairs itself, producing collagen and the more collagen produced means skin is plumper and less likely to wrinkle! If we’re sleep-deprived, not only will we wake with dark under-eye circles and bags, but we are also more likely to experience skin irritation, dehydration, fine lines, and dare I say blemishes! Us adults need a minimum of 7 hours of restful slumber a night, 8 preferred! Just be sure you switch off any electronics an hour or so before a practice some relaxation techniques! DO drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day Water is essential for healthy skin. It flushes out toxins and helps maintain your skin’s elasticity (which keeps it looking younger!) Those who drink more water are less likely to suffer from premature ageing as those who drink little amounts of water daily!Drinking ample amounts of water also helps balance your skin’s oil and water content which in turn helps to prevent excess oil and sebum secretion (meaning fewer clogged pores and less chances of getting spots!)It’s important to remember though that our skin is the last of our organs to receive water and nutrients so plenty of it daily is a must! DO exfoliate your skin at least once a week even if it’s on the sensitive side Weekly exfoliation is a must to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. If the dead skin cells aren’t removed they can get trapped leading to clogged pores and unwanted spots. You might be afraid to exfoliate if your skin is on the sensitive side but that’s ok there are amazing sensitive skin exfoliators out there for you! You just need to steer clear of physical exfoliants and opt for gentle enzyme exfoliators that don’t contain granules. These earth-sourced ingredients essentially dissolve dead skin cells as opposed to physically scrubbing them off.For more on what to do when it comes to exfoliating sensitive skin click here. But DON’T over exfoliate your skin Over-exfoliating skin can strip it of natural oils and lead to dryness and irritation. To learn more about the impact of over-exfoliated skin click here. DON’T overload your skin with products From cleansers to exfoliators, serums, moisturisers, masks, oils and more, it is easy to get carried away with skincare and believe that buying and applying all the products will be best for your skin! The problem is overloading it, particularly when you are using too many actives in your products can actually be detrimental and result in dryness, irritation and redness! Instead, listen to your skin! The best approach is to understand your own individual needs rather than just adding layers of products because you are under the misconception that using them all will deliver optimum skin results!Remember if you are prone to sensitive skin simplicity is key, if you have an oily complexion cleansing, toning and a light mattifying moisturiser can be enough, and if your skin tends to be on the dry side, then a serum, moisturiser, mist and face oil to lock moisture in will be beneficial. Also, if you are adding in new steps to your skincare routine, do so one product at a time so that your skin has time to adjust. DON’T overdo your makeup Who doesn’t love wearing a bit of makeup, it can totally transform the way we look and feel after all, but overdoing it is a no no. Not because it might look OTT but because of the effect it can have on your skin. Depending on your skin type, excessive makeup can clog your pores leading to breakouts. Plus the chemicals in some makeup products can dry out your skin leaving it looking dull, dehydrated and depleted. A solution is to use healthy makeup formulations packed with skin loving ingredients like mineral makeup. DON’T use hot water when washing your face or taking a shower Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils and in turn cause excessive dryness. Instead, use lukewarm water. DON’T leave your makeup on when going to bed I’m sure we’ve ALL been guilty of going to bed with our makeup on once or even many a time! Especially when we are exhausted after the daily juggle, or perhaps have had one too many and ooh how that bed looks so inviting but removing the day's makeup and grime off your face is a must! In fact not cleansing before bed means your skin is unable to regenerate effectively while you sleep, so pores clog, blemishes become more apparent, and fatigue (ageing!) signs start to appear. DON’T drink too much alcohol Many of us might love a margarita with friends or that big glass of red of an evening but sadly excessive alcohol consumption can dehydrate your skin and contribute to wrinkles and other skin issues, so try and limit your weekly alcohol consumption. DON’T smoke Smoking can accelerate the ageing process! It can damage collagen and elastin in your skin which leads to the formation of wrinkles and other signs of ageing. DON’T stress too much Stress can lead to skin problems like acne and eczema so managing stress levels through relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga and deep breathing can be essential for skin health.
Hyaluronic Acid for the under eye

6 reasons why you should use hyaluronic acid under your eyes

by Jo Boyden on Mar 15 2023
We are taught from an early age to look after our skin - to cleanse every evening and apply moisturiser to keep skin supple and nourished day and night. But more often than not, our eyes get forgotten. The irony is the skin around our eyes is the most delicate on our face and the first to show signs of ageing. Eye ageing starts in the form of fatigue, we’re talking dark, sullen skin or under eye puffy circles, then the fine lines and wrinkles start to form, all of which could be dramatically reduced if we were to look after our eyes from any early age. Prevention is key as they say! But also, it’s never too late to show those peepers of yours some TLC and the best way to do this is to use a nourishing eye cream rich in hydrating and anti-ageing ingredient hyaluronic acid! Keep reading to learn why using a hyaluronic acid eye cream or serum in your daily skin care routine is a must! Using a hyaluronic acid eye cream will make a noticeable impact on your eyes delicate skin’s moisture levels Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant, meaning it attracts and retains moisture in the skin, this is essential for keeping the skin around the eyes hydrated and supple. Using an eye cream formulated with hyaluronic acid will reduce fine lines and wrinkles As we age the skin around our eyes becomes dryer, thinner and loses its elasticity which leads to fine lines and wrinkles! And unfortunately the dryer this delicate area, the more visible those unwanted wrinkles are! Hyaluronic acid eye creams not only help prevent this from happening, but they also help to plump up the skin reducing the appearance of the already existing fine lines and wrinkles. Applying hyaluronic acid under your eyes can help soothe and calm irritated skin The delicate area surrounding your eyes can be easily irritated and in turn become inflamed. Hyaluronic acid has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe and calm the skin, reducing puffiness and redness around the eyes. Hyaluronic acid eye creams can brighten and even skin tone Dark circles and uneven skin tone around the eyes can be caused by dehydration and sun damage. This is turn can make eyes look dull and tired. Hyaluronic acid eye creams especially when they are formulated with vitamin C, can effectively help to brighten and even out the skin tone by hydrating the skin and promoting cell turnover. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful antioxidant which can protect your peepers In addition to its hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties, hyaluronic acid is also a powerful antioxidant which can help to protect the skin from damage caused by environmental stressors such as UV rays and pollution. Using a cream rich in hyaluronic acid can help prevent premature eye ageing As I mentioned earlier prevention is key when it comes to premature ageing. By being proactive and using a hyaluronic acid eye cream will improve skins elasticity no end and prevent premature wrinkles from even forming!Overall, using a hyaluronic acid eye cream or serum can help to keep the delicate skin under your eyes hydrated, plump and youthful looking. However, when using hyaluronic acid under the eyes, it’s important to choose a product that is specifically formulated for this area of the face as some products may be too heavy. Look for lightweight serums or eye creams that contain hyaluronic acid and apply them gently using your fingertip. Some of our favourite, and our bestselling eye creams formulated with hyaluronic acid include; Vie Collection Chrono Eyes Puffiness – Dark Circles Wrinkle CreamThis outstanding eye cream draws its inspiration from the eye rejuvenating hyaluronic acid injections carried out in aesthetic doctors practices! A derivative of Vitamin A, this ‘superhero’ ingredient offers a multitude of benefits; From reducing the appearance of fine lines and preventing wrinkles, to correcting hyperpigmentation, reducing large pores and clearing acne, retinol also has the ability to speed cell turnover making cells function like that of a child! Crazy right? Perfect for those with sun damaged, dull and discoloured skin, those suffering from large pores and adult acne, or simply because ageing is a concern, we couldn’t recommend retinol more. But be sure to understand how and when to use it first. Try Pevonia’s Micro-Retinol Moisturiser, and find out for yourself what all the fuss is about. “This is the most beautiful cream I have ever used; light texture, non-greasy, non-shiny. Changes in my skin include smoothing of lines and crepe-skin areas, softening, hydrating and contouring, and reduced pigmentation. Some results were instantly visible and now after three weeks my skin just keeps improving. Now it appears luminous and more refined. It’s a surprise to see a brighter smoother complexion at my age, I am 60!” Annie Hyaluronic Acid Probably the most famous skincare ingredient of them all, and renowned as every beauty expert’s ‘must-have’, hyaluronic acid has the ability to instantly deliver supple, dewy skin. It binds moisture to skin cells to keep skin smooth, firm, plump, and undeniably radiant and thanks to its sponge-like effect, every molecule can hold 1,000 times its weight in water so when topically applied it’s like a burst of intense hydration to the skin. But this skincare ingredient doesn’t stop there, not only does it benefit those with dry, dehydrated skin, it’s also a must for anyone with signs of premature ageing. So be sure you include this in your daily routine if you suffer from a dry, devitalised complexion or if you are simply in need of gentle anti-aging skincare. We are hands down in awe of Pevonia’s new Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum, featuring one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the skincare market! “I have just started using this serum and the results are already noticeable. My skin is so much more youthful! Smoother, plumper and visibly radiant! I couldn’t recommend more highly!!” Mary C   Glycolic Acid If your skin is looking a tad dull and devitalised and you’re forever coveting that ‘insta-glow’, Glycolic Acid is your answer. This super acid is a type of natural exfoliant derived from sugar cane, which dissolves the ‘glue’ that holds dead skins cells together. As dead skin cells shed, the new smoother, brighter and younger looking skin underneath is revealed. Made up of small molecules, it is also has the ability to penetrate deep within the skin, making it super effective for treating, blackheads, blemishes, oiliness, uneven texture, dullness and even fine lines! So if you have normal, combination and oily skin that’s looking far from radiant, Glycolic acid will be your saving grace. Try Pevonia’s Renewing Glycocides Cream, we promise you won’t regret it! “WOW, talk about overnight results! Minimizes my pores, smooths out my skin, and reduces redness. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to do all those things, but it’s been 2 months now since i’ve been using it every night and i LOVE this cream!” Sally O Vitamin C The best of the best when it comes to topical anti-oxidants, Vitamin C has been around for donkey’s years and for very good reason! Recommended by every beauty expert, this notorious glow-getter not only brightens skin, lessening hyperpigmentation, it also increases collagen production (which diminishes with age) and protects skin against pollution and sun damage by effectively neutralising free radicals (which can wreak havoc by harming healthy skin cells as well as promoting premature ageing – we are talking fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and more…) If you suffer from hyperpigmentation or dark spots or skin is lacking life and needs some serious brightening, vitamin c should be your go-to. We can’t recommend enough the Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe, it’s a firm favourite of ours! “This is a beautiful serum. You only require two pumps and the coverage is excellent. Radiant looking skin instantaneously. Definitely worth the investment.” Deborah W Collagen Peptides Collagen is technically a protein which naturally occurs in our bodies giving our skin strength and elasticity, as well as working to replace dead skin cells. However as we age our natural collagen levels begin to decline and the more collagen we lose, the more fine lines and wrinkles appear. Scary hey? This is where topical skincare solutions are an absolute must. By applying skincare formulated with collagen peptides, you can stimulate the synthesis of new collagen production and minimise the appearance of ageing. Sound good? To keep skin soft, supple and free of fine lines we are forever in love with Pevonia’s no. 1 global best-seller, the Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream. “I absolutely love this cream. It is a day cream and night cream and it helps with my puffiness, lines, blemishes, skin tone, you name it! Totally amazing.” Anna H Caviar Similar to retinol, caviar is a multi-tasking wonder ingredient! It works to enhance skin renewal and regeneration, it boosts collagen production and prevents the breakdown of elastin (which both diminish with age), it helps protect skin against UV rays, locks in moisture to keep skin deeply nourished and plumped and it brightens skin and reduces inflammation at the same time too! In fact caviar is suitable for all skin types even ultra-sensitive and easily irritated skin because it is rich in omega-3, and ceramides - anti-inflammatories that play a great part in reducing redness while soothing troubled skin! So if you want to bring back vitality and life to ageing, tired, and depleted skin this should be a must-have ingredient in your skincare arsenal. Try: Pevonia Myoxy Caviar Timeless Repair Cream. Drenched with potent actives to effectively counteract aging, this luxurious silky textured and easily absorbed cream provides outstanding rejuvenating results, smoothing wrinkles while increasing suppleness and oxygenation. “The very best anti-aging cream I have ever used...and I've tried them all!!! The cream is so rich that just a little goes a very long way in making your skin smooth with diminished lines and a the bonus of a fresh glow!” Sarah D Niacinamide Niacinamide or otherwise known as Vitamin B3, is the new kid on the block that everyone is raving about. This gentle ingredient when used topically can improve skin hydration by preventing evaporation of moisture from the skin. It's also a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient, so it's great for calming irritated and sensitive skin. What’s more it has the ability to improve skin tone and effectively fade dark spots, it can calm angry acne and it fights off harmful stressors such as UV rays, pollution, stress, lack of sleep, and other factors can all create free radicals that damage healthy skin cells. Oh and Niacinamide also improves the regulation of excess oil production, which can help minimise congestion and breakouts! What more could you ask? Try: Vie Collection Vita B3 Concentrated Solution. This light, melting textured serum is like a shot for the skin that will visibly improve skin’s radiance in next to no time! We are talking brighter, happier, healthier skin! Plus with continued use this product will significantly decrease pigmentation while reinforcing the protective functions of the skin barrier for the optimal skin health. “I love this serum! It’s become a staple in my skincare routine. It has slowly and gently removed ALL the sunspots I had on my face from never using sunscreen in my younger years. My skin is also now so much more radiant after introducing it! I’m one very happy customer.” Lorna M
Which order should you apply your skincare?

Which order should you apply your skincare?

by Jo Boyden on Nov 24 2022
With the ever-growing number of lotions and potions on the market from cleansers to toners, serums to oils, day to night creams and more, it’s no wonder there is confusion around which products are really necessary for our skin, let alone which order you should apply your skincare! Here’s the thing, we all have unique skin needs, dependant on our skin type and concern, so it’s important to create our own skincare ‘cocktail’ based on these specific needs! But if we use the wrong products (not everyone for example can tolerate AHA’s), pair two products together that are formulated with ingredients that don’t ‘gel’, or do not wear our skincare in the correct order, we just won’t see the results we are hoping for, or worse could wind up with blotchy, irritated skin instead. Eek.So to save time, stress and money! We have detailed below the exact order you should apply your skincare so you can get the most out of it! Along with what products and ingredients to use for your skin type and concern too! Cleanser Toner Serum Eye Cream Treatment (eg. Spot) Moisturiser Sunscreen (day) Face Oil (night) Step 1: CLEANSERCleansing daily is essential for skin health and the first step to layering skincare like a pro for optimum results. And despite conflicting views cleansing twice daily is imperative.Firstly, you need to cleanse at night to remove the days dirt, makeup and impurities. Then again in the morning to remove any excess oil and dead cells that are likely to have accumulated on your skin overnight. Without cleansing, your skin will be more prone to breakouts, dehydration, and premature aging. And remember you need a clean, oil and grime free face for all your skincare ingredients to properly absorb into your skin!At night opt for a cleansing oil that literally dissolves makeup (including waterproof!) without stripping your skin then follow with a gentle, creamy cleaner (which you should use in the morning too). For more information on cleansing and how it will improve your skin tenfold click here.Try;ELES Transformation Cleansing Oil - ideal for all skin types it will literally melt away makeup and impurities while maintaining a balanced, hydrated and smoothed complexion.Phytomer Perfect Visage Gentle Cleansing Milk – If you love milky cleansers this is your one! Essentially toners help to remove any excess dirt and traces of oil, balance the pH of your skin and prime your skin for ingredients that follow to be better absorbed!Try;Phytomer Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion – Perfect for all skin types this little gem ensures any left over signs of residual makeup or oil is completely removed.Phytomer Oligomarine Flawless Skin Tonic – perfect toner for oily, blemish-prone skin. Step 3: SERUMSYou might be wondering if you really need a serum in your skincare routine, but I’m here to tell you why you definitely do!Serums are the heavy lifters when it comes to your skincare routine, they are essentially shots of extremely concentrated nutrients, hydrators and antioxidants that will really amp up your skin’s health as soon as you apply it. Serums actually tend to perform above and beyond many regular skincare products because they are formulated with a higher concentration of targeted active ingredients and have the ability to penetrate deeper into the dermis. So if you want your skin to live its best life don’t skip on the serum! To learn more about why you need a serum and the best anti-ageing serums for every skin type, click here.Try;Phytomer Hydrasea Ultra-Moisturising Polarized Water Serum - the ultimate thirst quencher for dehydrated and devitalised skin.Vie Collection Vita C Concentrated Solution – the best for serious skin brightening. In fact it’s essential we our eye area the same level of TLC as the rest of our face! This step needs to come before your moisturiser because thinner products can’t penetrate thicker products and eye care products tend to be lighter and thinner than moisturisers to compensate for the fragile eye area.Try;Phytomer Pionniere XMF Reset Eye Fluid – anti-ageing wonder cream, perfect for night-time.Vie Collection Chrono Eyes Puffiness – Dark Circles Wrinkle Cream – the best to combat eye ageing, dark circles and under eye puffiness.Pevonia “C” Evolutive Eye Gel - formulated with anti-ageing dynamo Vitamin C and skin saviours’ hyaluronic acid and Ginkgo biloba, this gel is perfect is cooling and soothing congested and puffy peepers.Step 5: MOISTURISERA moisturiser not only infuses your skin with hydration but also helps trap in all of the products underneath it to make the ingredients even more effective. In the morning opt for a lighter, gentle moisturiser that will nourish and hydrate skin but not feel heavy or greasy (after all who wants that!) Just make sure you let your moisturiser of choice sink in before applying makeup as you don’t want your makeup to slide off within an hour of application!Try;Phytomer Nutritionnelle Dry Skin Rescue Cream – this is a salvation for even the driest skin, bringing comfort, hydration and protection.Phytomer Oligopur Hydra Matifying Control Cream – ideal for oily, combination or acne-prone skin, this mattifying cream restores clear and perfectly moisturised skin.Pevonia RS2 Care Cream – perfectly soothing, calming and nourishing, this global best-selling cream for sensitive, rosacea and reactive skin types will render skin visibly calmed, soothed, and completely decongested. At night skin goes into repair and regeneration mode so your moisturiser should be packed with skin ingredients to benefit your skincare concerns like hyaluronic acid, lipids, proteins and retinol.Try;Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream – hydrating, nurturing and restorative, this anti-ageing night cream for all skin types is outstanding!Pevonia Micro-Retinol Essential Moisturiser – while you should introduce retinol slowly, if you are worried about ageing, this is the ingredient your skin needs. This moisturiser will deeply hydrate, smooth, brighten and firm ageing skin. It’s idea for those with advanced signs of aging and sun damage exhibited by wrinkles, loose and sagging skin and uneven skin tone or dark spots. Really, it’s great for anyone who really want smoother, firmer skin and are not sensitive or acne-prone. Step 6: SUNSCREEN/FACE OILBy day go nowhere without applying your sunscreen, it’s literally your barrier of protection against free-radical damage, the no.1 cause of premature skin ageing!Try;Medicalia Sunscreen SPF 40 with Blue Light Shield – perfect for all skin types, it’s light-textured, non-greasy, tinted and 'ocean/reef safe' and it delivers powerful sun and blue light protection whilst also combating skin-aging free radicals from UV and infrared radiation! At night you should always use a face oil – the very last step to your skincare routine. This is because the oil takes a while to penetrate and treat the skin, so applying it at night gives it time to do its job. Plus you wouldn’t want a face full of oil in the morning just when you want to apply your makeup!Try;Phytomer Rosee Soin Radiance Replenishing Oil – perfect for all skin types this face oil literally does as the bottle says. When to use a facial mask and the best one for your skin

by Jo Boyden on Nov 18 2022
From clay masks to charcoal, sheet masks, to exfoliating masks, what used to be a facial indulgence has now become part of our everyday beauty routine and for very good reason, but when exactly should you be using a face mask though? Morning or night? Daily or weekly? We asked the experts for the lowdown on this vital skincare step. From why and when you should be using a face mask to the best ones for your skin, we have all the info you need to know. What is a facial mask?A face mask isn’t just an indulgent treat, it is key to tackling a multitude of skin concerns such as dehydration, acne, dryness, ageing and more! Face masks are specifically designed to be used intermittently to give your skin an instant boost but that’s not all! They offer a multitude of other benefits too. What are the main benefits of using a face mask? They are deep cleansingApplying face masks offer many physical and therapeutic benefits, but first and foremost masks provide cleansing on a deep, deep level, benefiting the skin in multiple ways. Don’t get me wrong daily cleansing is an imperative part of your skincare routine, but applying a mask once or twice a week will take that process to a whole other level by removing any remaining makeup, excess oil, dead skin cells and other impurities that have sat on your skin’s surface, as well as beneath the upper layers of the epidermis. They provide immediate resultsWhile with most face masks you’ll need to leave it on for a little while, the results are instant and go way beyond the impact of your daily skincare routine! The right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils, improve the appearance of pores and more and after every application your skin will immerge tightened, toned, softer, smoother, and let’s not forget positively glowing! They are pampering and therapeuticApplying a face mask is a great excuse for a little ‘me time’. It will not only address your skins needs but also make you feel fabulous in little to no time! This is because a face mask can lift your spirit by stimulating your senses and allow you a moment (or few moments should I say!) of indulgent comfort. Ahhhhh. They help all your other skincare products to better penetrate the skin for optimum resultsMany of us will be religious when it comes to our daily skincare ritual but if you really want all your products to absorb into your skin both quickly and deeply than a face mask is a necessity. By using a mask regularly, it will assist in enabling all the amazing ingredients from your skincare to penetrate deep into your skin essentially making your products work harder and more effectively than ever before. They are the perfect product for everyone to use no matter how sensitive or reactive your skin might beThis is because there is a mask for every skin type and concern. From dryness to inflammation, redness to acne, whatever your skin type there is the ideal mask to give your skin that instant boost it needs. What are the different types of facial masks? There is no one size fits all face mask, in fact there are six different types and are dependent on your skin type and concern.Cream MasksThese are best for dry, dehydrated and ageing skin. They are formulated with nourishing ingredients to add much needed moisture and nutrients back into the skin. Skin appears plumper, brighter and younger looking after every use.Gel MasksThe best choice for oily skin types, gel masks are lightweight. They minimise oil production and tighten the appearance of pores.Clay MasksThese are great for those suffering from blemish or acne prone skin as they provide skin with a through deep cleanse effectively removing debris from clogged pores.Warming MasksThese contain active ingredients that make the skin feel warm. Because they increase blood flow in the skin, skin may feel a tingling sensation and appear a little flushed after. They are best for skin that needs invigorating.Exfoliating MasksThese are formulated with AHA’s and BHA’s to help remove dead skin cell build up. They can come in the form of a chemical peel or be made with fine particles such as jojoba granules. They help enhance the skin’s natural turnover process and render dull skin beautifully bright.Sheet MasksSheet masks are different to every other type of mask in that they don’t come in a pot or tub but instead in a packet for single use. The ‘sheet’ is face-shaded (as in it features holes for your eyes, mouth and nose so it can completely cover your entire face) and is usually made of fiber, cotton, cellulose, or coconut pulp. Sheet masks are soaked in a liquid cocktail of hydrating, brightening or anti-ageing ingredients and work instantly on the skin boosting hydration and glow. How often and when should you use a face mask?We recommend adding a face mask to your skincare routine once or twice a week, morning or night, it just needs to come after your usual routine of cleansing and toning first as face masks are most beneficial when applied to clean skin free of impurities and excess oil. This way your skin is better equipped to absorb all the goodness of a face mask. How should you apply a face mask? This will alter slightly depending on the face mask you are using but generally speaking you should apply it evenly (no need to slather it on) all over your entire face. Don’t forget your neck and décolleté too! Like your face, these delicate areas also take on visible signs of ageing, often much earlier than the face because of their over exposure to the sun and environmental stress (let’s face it we don’t give our neck and décolleté nearly as much love as our faces, often a forgotten part of our skincare routine we don’t always apply sunscreen either! How long should you leave a face mask on?The general rule of thumb for the majority of face masks is 15 minutes. Sheet masks can be left on for up to 30 minutes, while certain gel masks can be left on as an overnight treatment to deeply hydrate your skin while you sleep. How do you remove a face mask?To remove your face mask use lukewarm water and either your fingers or a damp flannel or face cloth. Just be sure it’s clean and soft so it doesn’t irritate your skin. What is the best face mask for your skin?Prone to pesky pimples or all out acne?A detoxifying charcoal mask will be your best bet! Pevonia’s Pure Skin Charcoal Mask is the perfect antidote for congested, dull skin. It neutralises pollutants, draws out impurities and leaves skin glowing with pure freshness!Suffering from sensitive skin? You will love soothing masks like Phytomer’s Accept Comfort Mask. Healing is faster and it leaves your skin feeling beautifully hydrated and comfortable for days.Skin is seriously parcheda super hydrating mask is for you! Beauty Collective - Exfoliation and Sensitive Skin

Exfoliation and sensitive skin, here’s what to do

by Jo Boyden on Nov 04 2022
If you suffer from sensitive skin the idea of exfoliating might scare you. After all you don’t want to exacerbate your already irritated skin, right? The thing is exfoliation should be a crucial part of your regular skincare routine no matter what your skin type or concern. Why? Because it offers a multitude of benefits, from removing dulling dead skin cells, to preventing clogged pores, encouraging cell turnover (so those healthy, new cells can come through) and more! In fact, it’s the one step in your skincare routine which will really help reveal glowy, silky-soft skin! However, before exfoliating your face, you do need to know how often to exfoliate and what exfoliating products will be best suited to your sensitive skin. As experts in skincare, we are here to guide you. Keep reading as we discuss exfoliation and sensitive skin and what it is you should do. Which type of exfoliators are best for sensitive skin? There are three different types of exfoliants – physical (scrubs which contain beads or small grains to manually remove surface debris), chemical (acid exfoliants which chemically dissolve debris) and enzyme (plant or fruit derived exfoliants that generally breaks down the ‘glue’ that hold dead skin cells together shedding old cells). For sensitive skin its essential to avoid scrubbing, this will only irritate already reactive skin and can lead to facial redness. Instead use a mild chemical exfoliator, containing AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) such as citric, glycolic and lactic acid, or enzyme exfoliators. These earth-sourced ingredients essentially dissolve dead skin cells as opposed to physically scrubbing them off.Be a little more cautious with exfoliators formulated with BHA’s (beta hydroxy acids) such as salicylic acid. While salicylic is great for acne prone skin it can be too harsh for those this skin sensitivities. How often should you exfoliate if you have sensitive skin?Once a week is fine, if your skin can tolerate it, increasing to two times can be beneficial but don’t rush it! It’s important to be consistent and go slowly to avoid any additional irritation. After all over-exfoliating can compromise your skin’s natural protective barrier – the surface of your skin which has a protective layer of oils and lipids which helps lock in essential moisture and keeps irritants out! What are the best exfoliating products to use on sensitive skin?Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant with natural enzymesWe highly recommend this very gentle enzyme exfoliant. Perfect for for even the most sensitive or rosacea prone skin types, it uses natural enzymes to encourage cell turnover without scrubbing or irritating skin.“I have the most sensitive skin, so I can’t use exfoliants that contain microbeads or scrubs…this is a great alternative. It sloughs off all of the dead skin cells without ever irritating my skin! I use it once a week at the minimum, and it keeps my face glowing and smooth. It’s the most wonderful exfoliant ever!” Sarah RPevonia Enzymo Spherides Peeling CreamThis mini facial in a jar (literally) will do wonders for all skin types even the most sensitive of skin types. And no don’t let the word ‘peel’ put you off! It combines natural fruit pineapple and papaya enzymes with citric and to gently and effectively eliminate impurities, blackheads, dead cells and toxins and it’s so easy to use! Simply apply a thin layer to cleansed skin, wet your fingertips with warm water (this will help to ‘wake up’ the enzymes) and work the peeling cream with gentle massage movements into skin, leave on for 5 minutes and then thoroughly rinse away. Nothing makes skin feel cleaner, softer, smoother and brighter than this jar of goodness!! Trust me.“Absolutely the best product on the market. Perfect for all skin types and ages. Truly amazing. It’s gentle and effective, skin is left bright and soft.” Lisa W
