The best pore-refining products according to you

The best pore-refining products according to you

by Jo Boyden on Apr 02 2026
We’ve talked a lot recently about the best products for sensitive skin, how to calm rosacea and how to strengthen a compromised skin barrier. Well now it’s time to talk pores! After all we all have them (even those people we swear have the most ‘perfect’ skin!) But when pores appear enlarged, congested or simply more visible that we’d like, they can really affect how smooth and refined our complexion looks. The truth is, we can’t actually physically ‘shrink’ our pores, but we can cleverly minimise their appearance with the right products! From clarifying cleansers to targeted serums, pore-refining formulas are designed to help keep skin looking clearer, smoother and more balanced. Keep reading to discover the 4 pore-refining products that consistently deliver visible results, according to you!   Firstly, why do your pores look enlarged in the first place? Pore size is largely genetic, so you definitely can’t shrink them permanently,  but you absolutely can minimise their appearance, and consistently so. The main culprits behind enlarged looking pores are excess sebum (oil) production, congestion and dead skin cell build-up sitting inside the pore. Loss of collagen and elasticity around the pore walls as skin ages is a big contributor too, as is sun damage. Targeting these at the right step in your routine (cleansing, treating, and refining) is the key to seeing real consistent results!   The pore-refining products you (and we!) love   Medicalia Clarifying Cleanser Using a good cleanser when pores are clogged with oil, makeup and debris is key to refining their appearance and this clarifying cleanser is a stand out for oily and congested skin! It works to deeply cleanse and purify the skin without over-stripping, helping to regulate excess oil while keeping the complexion balanced. With consistent use, pores appear clearer and less visible, and skin looks noticeably brighter and more refined overall too! “I have very oily skin and this product has helped so much. My pores are not just visibly smaller but almost un-noticable. I have had comments on how bright my skin looks lately so this tells me im on a winner!” - Lauri B Pevonia Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser If your skin tends to be sensitive but you still want that smooth, refined finish, this cleanser is a fantastic option. It gently exfoliates while cleansing, helping to remove buildup and refine the look of pores without causing irritation. Skin is left feeling soft, smooth, and perfectly balanced, never tight or irritated. “I have some sensitivity in my skin and this is the only product that I have used that does not hurt or inflame my skin. It has also made my skin so soft and minimized my pore size...AWESOME” - Tessa M Pevonia Age-Correction Micro-Pores Bio-Active Serum Once your skin is properly cleansed, targeted serums are where the real transformation happens and the Pevonia Age Correction Micro Pores Bio Active Serum is one that realy does exactly what it promises! Designed specifically to minimise the appearance of enlarged pores, it works by helping to regulate oil production while refining and smoothing the skin’s surface. It’s lightweight, effective, and perfect for areas where pores tend to be more visible (think nose, cheeks, and T-zone). “Wonderful product, does exactly what it says. Minimises large pores and reduces oily skin around my nose and cheeks. Highly recommend!”- Rhiannon K Phytomer Emergence Even Skin Tone Refining Serum If uneven texture and post-acne scarring are part of your concern, this serum is a must! It works to smooth, refine, and improve overall skin texture while helping to create a more even, polished-looking complexion. Over time, pores appear less noticeable as the skin becomes smoother and more uniform.  Honestly this is the kind of product that can earn a permanent spot in your routine when you start seeing visible improvements in your skin texture and clarity. “I first received this as a sample and decided to purchase it because I saw a huge difference in the texture of my skin. I now use it daily and would not be without it. I am in my 30s and have large pores with acne scaring. This product makes my skin so much smoother and beautiful.” – June Expert tips for minimising the look of your enlarged pores Remember to also keep skin clean so this means daily cleansing morning and night. A build up of oil and debris in your pores makes them look so much larger! Even if your skin is sensitive, exfoliating is a must to keep texture smooth and pores minimized. Never skip on your daily moisturiser, dehydrated skin can actually exaggerate your pores. Be consistent with your pore refining routine and never skip on your SPF!   When it comes to your pores, it’s not about trying to eliminate then which is impossible! It’s about keeping them clean, clear and refined! With the right combination of cleansing products and targeted treatments you will notice a big improvement in skin texture and the appearance of your pore size!
How to make your pores look smaller in 7 simple steps

How to make your pores look smaller in 7 simple steps

by Jo Boyden on Jul 04 2025
Pores. We all have them, after all they are crucial for healthy functioning skin! But for some of us, they can appear a little more prominent than we’d like! In fact, enlarged pores are a very common skincare concern, and while you can’t eliminate them (they’re essential after all!) the great news is you can definitely make them look a whole lot smaller! Want to know how? Keep reading for the best routine to minimise your pores and achieve a smoother, flawless complexion too!   Firstly, why do your pores look larger than you’d like? If your pores are looking larger than usual, there are several common reasons behind it. 1. Excess Sebum (oil) production This is one of the most common reasons for enlarged pores. Each pore contains a sebaceous gland that produces oil (sebum) to keep your skin moisturised. When your skin produces too much oil, it can mix with dead skin cells and other debris, clogging the pore. This buildup stretches the pore walls, making the opening appear larger. This is particularly common in people with oily or combination skin. 2. Genetics Unfortunately, your genes play a significant role in pore size! If your parents or close relatives have naturally larger pores, you're more likely to have them too. This is simply due to inherited skin structure and oil gland activity (thanks family!) 3. Ageing! As we age our skin loses collagen and elastin, the proteins that provide firmness and support. When the skin around the pores loses its elasticity, it can sag and stretch, making the pores appear wider and more open. 4. Sun damage UV rays break down collagen and elastin, similar to the natural ageing process. This damage weakens the skin's support structure, leading to less firm skin and consequently, larger-looking pores. Sun exposure can also thicken the skin, which can make pores more visible. 5. Clogged pores Congested pores look a while lot more noticeable that pores that aren’t! This is because a mix of dead skin cells, excess oil, makeup, and dirt can get trapped inside the pore. This accumulation creates a plug (a blackhead if exposed to air and oxidised, or a whitehead if closed off), stretching the pore opening and making it appear enlarged. 6. Improper skincare Skipping exfoliation or not cleansing properly can lead to buildup and visible pores.   The 7 steps to minimising your pores   1. Double cleanse daily Our pores often appear larger when clogged with oil, sweat, dirt, and makeup so effective cleansing really is the first essential step to minimising their appearance. Double cleansing helps remove every trace of grime, without stripping your skin. It also prevents a build-up, which can stretch pore walls. Simply start with an oil-based cleanser (we LOVE the ELES Transformation Cleansing Oil) to melt away makeup and sunscreen, then follow with a gentle water-based cleanser like Phytomer’s Souffle Marin Cleansing Foaming Cream to detoxify, decongest and purify your pores. Formulated with marine botanicals like OLIGOMER® and marine spring water, it helps soothe, remineralise, and maintain skin balance while gently but effectively removing any trace of remaining makeup, excess oil and impurities. “This is an excellent cleanser for my skin that is normal to oily in the warmer summer months. It has a mild exfoliant in it, lactic acid, that helps keep my pores purified. I am very happy with it.” – Brianna (BC customer) And for the month of July, when you purchase the best-selling Phytomer Expert Youth Wrinkle Plumping Cream (one of my personal favourites) you’ll receive this powerhouse cleanser for FREE) Top tip: Make sure you avoid harsh cleansers that strip your skin, they can actually increase oil production and worsen the look of pores.   2. Exfoliate (but don’t overdo it!) I’m sure we all know regular exfoliation will help keep our skin’s surface smooth and clear but did you ever consider that by not adding this simple step into your skincare routine once or twice weekly, dead skin cells can settle into your pores making them look larger and uneven! So, if you are dealing with enlarged pores and aren’t exfoliating as you should be, start now! If your skin tends to naturally be on the more combination or oily side opt for chemical exfoliants formulated with glycolic acid (AHA), salicylic acid (BHA), or lactic acid (AHA) to keep pores clear. If your skin is more on the sensitive side, you’ll want to choose a good enzyme exfoliator (like papaya or pineapple-based formulas) as these are a more gentle, non-invasive option. The enzymes literally dissolve the dead skin, so no harsh exfoliation in sight! Just be sure to not over exfoliate as you can risk irritation and inflaming your pores! 1-3 times a week is sufficient dependant on how sensitive your skin is. For more on exfoliation, the different types and the best option for your skin click here.  3. Use a Pore-Refining Toner or Essence Toners or essences with ingredients like niacinamide, witch hazel, or zinc help refine texture, tighten the appearance of pores and balance oil production. We love Phytomer Oligomarine Flawless-Skin Tonic, formulated with niacinamide, witch hazel and zinc, it tones the skin, tightens the pores and brightens the complexion! 4. Apply a clay mask weekly Clay masks, especially those with kaolin or bentonite, are brilliant for drawing out excess oil and impurities from pores, leaving them looking tighter and less visible. Apply a clay mask once or twice a week for a deep-cleaning boost like Phytomer Citylife Radiance Reviving Mask with Clay. Combining 100% natural red and white clays, blue microalgae, red algae and a comprehensive depolluting complex of 3 marine sugars, it reveals luminosity, radiance and refined pores after just one application. 5. Target with a serum Serums are concentrated treatments designed to go deeper into the skin, making them ideal for refining texture and targeting pore visibility. When it comes to minimising, pores look for serums formulated with retinol, niacinamide and peptides. These ingredients not only boost cell turnover and support collagen production but help unclog pores, smooth uneven skin tone and ensure skin looks firmer and tighter! Try Vie Collection’s Vita B3 Concentrated solution, packed with niacinamide to visibly tighten pores, smooth texture, and brighten overall tone. What’s more when you purchase a selected Vie Collection Moisturiser this July, you’ll receive the Vita B3 serum for FREE!  6. Make sure you moisturise daily, even if your skin is oily! Dehydrated skin overcompensates with more oil, which can stretch and clog pores. The right moisturiser can help balance and smooth skin. If enlarged pores are a problem make sure you opt for lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturisers formulated with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or squalane and specifically designed to help pores. Remember well-hydrated skin helps maintain elasticity and prevents pores from appearing larger. 7. Protect with SPF (Every. Single. Day.) We all know sun damage breaks down collagen and elastin, but did you know that this in turns causes our pores to sag and look larger over time! Wearing an SPF daily really will help maintain your skin’s firmness and youthfulness. Just be sure to look for non-comedogenic formulas and mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin! And use it every morning even on cloudy days, to protect your skin and keep pores looking refined!   Additional expert tips As well as following a daily skincare routine, there are a few additional things you need to ensure you do/don’t do as well! 1. Avoid squeezing or picking at your pores as this can cause irritation and even scaring! 2. Use a pore perfecting primer before applying makeup. A good primer will become your lifeline if you are prone to enlarged pores. Not only will it stop your foundation from sliding off your face quite literally, it’ll keep your base smooth while reducing the appearance of pores (and fine lines!) 3. Avoid using heavy, pore-clogging makeup, try mineral makeup instead!   A consistent routine can dramatically refine your pores appearance over time. By keeping them clean, exfoliated, hydrated, and protected, your skin will look smoother, more even, and radiant we promise!
Adult Acne Solutions: Tried-and-tested treatments that work

Adult Acne Solutions: Tried-and-tested treatments that work

by Jo Boyden on May 16 2025
Unfortunately, acne isn’t just a teenage problem like many of us may have once thought! It can be frustrating reality for adults too. Whether it's caused by hormones, stress, diet, or environmental factors, adult acne can be stubborn and challenging to treat. But if you’re currently dealing with this skin condition and looking for solutions that work, we are here to tell you they do exist! Whether you're dealing with persistent pimples, hormonal flare-ups, or the occasional breakout, keep reading for the most effective, tried-and-tested treatments for clear, calm skin!   Understanding adult acne – why you’re prone to it Before we discuss the best treatments, it's crucial to understand the reasons for adult acne. These are the main contributors; Hormonal Fluctuations Like in your teens, hormonal fluctuations are a major culprit when it comes to acne in adulthood! Especially in women due to menstrual cycles, pregnancy, perimenopause, and hormonal imbalances. Hormones can cause havoc with our skin by increasing oil production, clogging pores, and triggering inflammation leading to breakouts, especially around the jawline and chin. Stress Unfortunately, our busy lives can lead to increased stress levels. Stress in turn triggers hormonal changes, particularly cortisol spikes, which increase oil production, inflammation, and breakouts making adult acne more frequent and stubborn. Skincare Habits Using the wrong products, over-exfoliating, or not cleansing properly can contribute to breakouts. Diet While not a direct cause for everyone, certain foods can exacerbate acne in some people. High-glycaemic foods such as dairy, and processed items can spike insulin, triggering excess oil and breakouts. Environmental pollution Dirt and toxins on our skin from pollution can further contribute to the problem. It clogs pores causing inflammation and breakouts. Antioxidant-rich foods like berries, leafy greens, and nuts help defend skin.   What type of acne do you suffer from? Acne comes in many forms! To find out all about the most common ones and which you might be struggling with click here.   Key ingredients that work to fight acne Certain powerhouse ingredients have been clinically proven to combat acne, these include; Salicylic Acid This oil-soluble beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) can penetrate pores to exfoliate inside and out, helping to unclog them and reduce inflammation preventing further breakouts. Be consistent and patient: Just remember clear skin isn’t an overnight achievement. Stick with a consistent, gentle routine and give your skin the time it needs to heal. Listen to your skin: Pay attention to how your skin reacts to different products and adjust your routine accordingly. Avoid product-hopping though and always patch-test new treatments first. Manage stress: Since stress aggravates acne, practices like meditation, exercise, and better sleep can make a difference. Maintain a healthy diet and stay hydrated: Cutting back on sugar and dairy may help some people minimize breakouts. Staying hydrated flushes toxins and supports skin health. Manage hygiene: Regularly washing pillowcases, makeup brushes, and phones prevents bacteria buildup on your skin.   Looking for makeup tips for your acne prone skin? Click here.
Dull, devitalised skin? These are BC’s top-rated beauty buys

Dull, devitalised skin? These are BC’s top-rated beauty buys

by Jo Boyden on May 02 2025
Found yourself looking in the mirror lately and wondering why your skin is suddenly looking dull and old? Well, you most certainly wouldn’t be alone! We all deal with the occasional bout of dull skin but if you’re regularly waking up to a tired, lacklustre complexion, you’ll likely be wondering what you can do to improve it! Unfortunately, the looming winter months will only exacerbate this skin concern thanks to the cooler weather and constant need for indoor heating which, let’s face it, sucks the life out of our already depleted complexion! But this doesn’t mean we can’t take action and turn our dull, devitalised skin to radically radiant in next to no time! Chances are your skincare routine could just be missing a few key components! Keep reading as we countdown the must-have ingredients and products recommendations that will breathe life back into your dull skin, products I personally swear by and come highly recommended by our customers and the BC experts too!   Why is your skin dull and tired looking? Dull, tired-looking skin can be caused by a variety of factors, many of which are linked to your lifestyle, environment, and skincare habits. The most common causes include; 1. Lack of exfoliation Dead skin cells can build up on the surface, making your complexion look flat and lacklustre. Regular exfoliation (chemical or physical) helps reveal fresher, brighter skin underneath. 2. Dehydration When your skin lacks moisture, it can appear sallow, tight, and lifeless. Hydrating ingredients in your skincare like hyaluronic acid and glycerin can help plump and revive your complexion. 3. Poor sleep Not getting enough quality sleep can interfere with your skin’s repair cycle, leading to puffiness, dullness, and a lack of radiance, I can vouch for that! 4. Stress Chronic stress triggers cortisol production, which can negatively affect circulation, cause breakouts, and make skin look fatigued. 5. Environmental damage Pollution, UV rays, and harsh weather strip the skin of its vitality, speed up ageing, and contribute to a dull appearance. 6. Nutrient deficiency Lacking essential vitamins and antioxidants in your diet (like vitamin C, E, or omega fatty acids) can unfortunately impact skin tone, texture, and glow. 7. Using the wrong products Using the wrong products (or skipping key steps like cleansing, exfoliation, or SPF) can leave your skin dull, congested, or unbalanced, this is why the products you use and the steps you take are imperative when it comes to healthy, glowing skin!   The ingredients you need if your skin is lacking life, you’ll want to choose skincare with hydrating and skin brightening benefits. Look for products formulated with Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and/or retinol as these superlative ingredients will help skin appear more hydrated, plumped and radiant! The best-selling products we highly recommend THE CLEANSER: Phytomer Cyfolia Radiance Cleansing Cream When you have dull skin cleansing should be the first step in your skin care routine. So, look for a cleanser that is formulated to help brighten the appearance of your complexion, like Phytomer Cyfolia Radiance Cleansing Cream. This rich, velvety cleanser literally melts on contact with your skin to gently cleanse and remove makeup, oil and impurities! Organic Orange water delivers vitamin C for skin radiance and optimal glow while Cyfolia Algae enhances the glow by providing a reflective effect! Thanks to its beautifully lightweight texture, this radiance cream helps keep that outer layer of skin perfectly nourished without feeling too heavy. Rich in vitamins, it revitalizes, activates your skin’s cellular activity to promote natural regrowth, hydrates, softens and smooths skin for a radiant youthful appearance. Goodbye dull, devitalized skin! “I am in love with this product, it’s become my go-to moisturiser! It’s silky and light yet keeps my skin moisturised all day long! It has a lovely subtle scent, and the products name definitely reflects the results – it’s energising and radiance inducing that’s for sure!” – JoJo B THE SERUM: Pevonia “C” Complexe with Oxyzomes Another tip for reviving dull skin? Adding a vitamin C serum to your daily routine! It can totally transform your skin I’m telling you! We love Pevonia’s “C” Complexe. Vitamin C, hyaluronic and oxygen work together in this amazing product to enliven dull skin leaving it visibly brighter and more youthful after every single application! It’s a truly powerful anti-oxidant that not only delivers immediate luminosity but protects the skin from premature skin ageing too! Yesss! Oh and if smells and feels amazing too! “This is a beautiful serum. You only require two pumps and the coverage is excellent. Radiant looking skin instantaneously. Definitely worth the investment.” – Deborah  THE EXFOLIATOR: Pevonia Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser The most common cause of dull, lacklustre skin is a build-up of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. This happens when we neglect to slough them away. So if your skin is looking dull and lacklustre, chances are you need to up the ante and exfoliate properly! No matter what your skin type, exfoliation is paramount when it comes to removing those skin dulling dead cells! They need to be removed in order to allow new, glowing cells to come forward. Look for an exfoliator that will help brighten your complexion as well as smooth your skin. Pevonia’s Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser is not only ideal for all skin types, it’s a creamy, granular, exfoliating cream formulated with jojoba beads, Saponaria and Chamomile that very gently polishes away dul, dead skin cells, impurities and toxins to reveal instant radiance and softer, smoother skin too! You’ll love the immediate gratification you’ll get from this formidable favourite of ours. Use 1-2 times weekly. “I love this exfoliator, my skin always feels so smooth and hydrated after using it. It also makes my skin look a lot brighter.” – Orielly R THE FACIAL MASK: Vie Collection Photo C Bright Radiance Mask Treat yourself to an at-home spa day with a facial mask. It will help draw out any build-up of impurities, dirt and pollution, reduce the appearance of dull skin and increase the look of luminosity! So to brighten a dull complexion, you’ll want a glow mask like Vie Collection’s Photo C Bright Radiance Mask which delivers radiant skin by morning! It is power packed with vitamin c, exfoliating papain, marine minerals and more and we promise after the very first application an incredibly radiant and brightened skin appearance will be revealed! “Love this mask, I use it once a week and what a difference it makes! I leave it one for about 20 minutes and when I rinse it off my skin is literally glowing! Highly recommend.” – Sarah M THE NIGHT CREAM: Pevonia Micro Retinol Essential Moisturizer This light and gentle moisturiser increases cell turnover, stimulates collagen and elastin production (essential for youthful, plump skin), fades hyperpigmentation and helps skin stay hydrated and glowing without irritation. It’s a multi-tasking wonder! You should introduce it slowly though and at night. This is because Retinol makes your skin more sensitive to UV rays and sunlight decreases the efficacy of the product. To find out more about retinol and this Pevonia’s Micro Retinol range click here. “This is the most beautiful cream I have ever used; light texture, non-greasy, non-shiny. Changes in my skin are an increased smoothing of lines and crepe-skin areas, softening, hydrating and contouring, and reduced pigmentation. Some results were instantly visible and now after three weeks my skin just keeps improving. It appears luminous and more refined. So, I am going to purchase the whole range. It’s a surprise to see a brighter smoother complexion at my age. (60)” – Annie THE FACIAL OIL: Pevonia De-Stress Escape Aromatic Oil To complete your skincare routine introducing a facial oil specifically designed to brighten dull skin is key! The scent is also heavenly and definitely transports me into a relaxed state of mind. Such amazing stuff!” – Amy K

12 steps to minimise large pores: Your ultimate guide

12 steps to minimise large pores: Your ultimate guide

by Jo Boyden on Dec 06 2024
If you’re one of the many blessed with oily skin, you might find your struggling with large pores too, especially as the weather is heating up and oil production can go into overdrive! That said, large pores are one of the most common (and searched) skin concerns affecting people of all ages and skin types (not just oily skin). They can make your skin appear uneven, textured, or oily, leaving many of us wondering what exactly is causing them and how we can reduce their size stat! Keep reading as we reveal the reasons behind your large pores and, more importantly, how you can minimize their appearance with targeted products and expert tips too!   So, why do you have large pores? Believe it or not there are actually many reasons your pores might be a lot larger than you’d like! Excess oil production Pores are essential for releasing oil (sebum) to keep your skin moisturised. However, overactive sebaceous glands can cause pores to stretch, making them appear larger. Oily skin types are particularly prone to this issue. Clogged pores When oil mixes with dirt, makeup, and dead skin cells, it can clog pores, causing them to expand. This can lead to blackheads and a bumpy skin texture Loss of collagen and elastin As you age, your skin loses collagen and elastin, which are responsible for keeping it firm and tight. With less support, pores may appear more prominent. Sun damage Prolonged exposure to UV rays breaks down collagen and thickens the skin, stretching out pores over time. Genetics Yes you can thank your parents for those unruly large pores of yours! Your skin type and pore size are largely determined by your genetics. If your family has visible pores, chances are you will too. Improper skincare routine Using the wrong skincare products or skipping essential steps like cleansing can exacerbate the appearance of enlarged pores.   How to minimize large pores While you can’t actually change your pore size completely (thanks to genetics), you can take steps to minimize their appearance and achieve a smoother, healthier-looking complexion; 1. Cleanse thoroughly Keeping your pores clean really is the first step to minimising their appearance. This means using a gentle cleanser specific to your skin type both morning and night to effectively remove oil, dirt, sunscreen and makeup. If your skin is combination to oily, it’s best to opt for gel or foaming cleaners, if your skin tends to be on the sensitive side, there are some amazing sensitive skin cream cleansers for that too! Specific ingredients will make a big difference to the appearance of your pore size too. Cleansers formulated with AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) such as Citric Acid, Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid, and/or BHA’s (Beta Hydroxy Acids) such as Salicylic acid can make all the difference! While all four acids exfoliate on a cellular level, Glycolic, Citric and Lactic works on a more surface level to brighten and smooth your skin, whereas Salicylic Acid penetrates much deeper to effectively remove dead skin cells clogged in pores. We highly recommend Vie Collection Cleansing Gel with Glycolic, Lactic and Salicylic Acids. This foaming cleansing gel combines glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids to stimulate cellular activity, break the intercellular glue between dead cells and thoroughly cleanse skin. Remember harsh cleansers can strip your skin of its natural oils, causing your pores to become larger so do consider which cleaner is right for your skin!   2. Exfoliate Regularly When it comes to large pores, exfoliation is paramount! You want to ensure pores are unclogged to prevent further stretching, and exfoliating effectively removes dead skin cells and prevents pore-clogging buildup. Try Pure Balance Papaya Enzyme Peeling Wash. This plant enzyme-based deep cleanser formulated with natural papaya extract dissolves easily in cold water and eliminates dead skin cells without irritation, breaking down proteins to produce peptone, which washes away dirt and sebum within the pores without irritation. Tip: Exfoliate 1–3 times per week based on your skin type.   3. Incorporate retinol into your routine Believe me when I say retinol is a game-changer for pore refinement. A good retinol serum will boost cell turnover and collagen production, which tightens the skin around pores. Just remember though if you haven’t used retinol before you’ll want to introduce it slowly and at night to avoid any irritation. For more information on retinol click here.   4. Use Clay Masks Who doesn’t love a good mask and clay masks are no exception. In fact clay masks will absorb excess oil and draw out impurities from pores when applied. For a real deep clean use your clay mask once or twice a week. And look for masks that specifically have kaolin or bentonite clay. We love Phytomer CityLife Radiance Reviving Mask  This unique cream-mousse mask instantly counters dehydration, signs of fatigue, dark spots and enlarged pores. Combining 100% natural red and white clays, blue microalgae, red algae and a comprehensive depolluting complex of 3 marine sugars, it reveals luminosity, radiance and refined pores after just one application!   5. Hydrate Wisely Dehydrated skin can overcompensate by producing more oil, in turn worsening the appearance of your pores! Be sure to use lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturisers rich in hyaluronic acid, not heavy, greasy creams that could potentially clog your pores. We love: Hubislab Moisture Max Hydro Cream. It’s a powerful, fast-acting moisturiser that quickly locks in hydration while soothing skin. Formulated with a unique blend of hyaluronic compounds that work to form a protective moisture barrier, its lightweight texture provides a primer-like finish without any greasiness! 6. Protect Your Skin with Sunscreen UV damage breaks down collagen and makes pores look larger so you need to be armed with a good broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and apply every single morning. Try to minimise sun exposure too and always wear a hat!   7. Use pore-minimizing products As well as your hydrating moisturiser and retinol serum, we recommend you invest in products specifically designed to refine pores too like Pevonia’s Age Correction Micro-Pores Refine Cream. it’s a mattifying treatment cream that minimizes pores by combining cutting-edge natural actives like red clover extract and retinol to regulate oil production and refine skin texture. This lightweight cream also hydrates while delivering antioxidants, leaving your skin smoother, balanced, and visibly clearer with regular use. 8. Avoid squeezing or picking pimples from clogged pores It’s tempting to squeeze clogged pores, but this can damage the skin and make pores appear larger. Use proper skincare tools or visit a professional for extractions.   9. Use a primer before applying makeup A good primer will become your lifeline if you are prone to enlarged pores. Not only will it stop your foundation from sliding off your face quite literally, it’ll keep your base smooth while reducing the appearance of pores (and fine lines!) if you are a sufferer of oily skin and pores on the, let’s say slightly larger side! Our recommended go-to is the ELES Pore Perfecting Face Primer. It’s oil-free (of course), perfectly lightweight and seems to combat shine almost instantly. It contains a natural Dermat Complex which enables it to absorb oil and effectively reduce pore size in one hit.   10. Choose your makeup wisely Unfortunately, our makeup can make pores seem bigger than they actually are. Products like our powders and foundation can settle into our pores over the course of the day, making them appear larger, so your best bet because, let’s face it we aren’t going to want to forego our miraculous makeup, is opt for mineral products! A huge benefit of using mineral makeup is that it’s non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores! We love ELES Cosmetics range of mineral formulations. Try the best-selling Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation or if you’re a lover of powder foundations we highly recommend the Mineral Powder Foundation.   11. Give professional treatments a go if you are really concerned about your pore size, professional in-salon treatments can deliver dramatic results. Treatments such as chemical peels exfoliate intensively and deeply to unclog and refine pores. Microneedling boosts collagen production for firmer, smoother skin. And laser therapy reduces oil production and tightens skin.   12. Be Consistent Achieving smoother skin takes time. Stick to a routine and give products time to work, remember consistency is key to long-term improvement!   While you can’t change your pore size, you can control how they look by keeping them clean, unclogged, and supported with the right skincare routine. With a mix of at-home care and professional treatments, your pores can go from prominent to practically invisible.
