Winter skin beauty: 5 essential steps you may be missing

Winter skin beauty: 5 essential steps you may be missing

by Jo Boyden on Aug 01 2025
Wondering why your skincare routine isn’t delivering the results you expect? You could be unknowingly skipping a few crucial steps. From smart layering techniques to moisture-boosting must-haves, discover 5 skincare essentials your complexion could be missing, but definitely needs!   1. Effective skin barrier repair Our skin can really suffer in winter when it comes to cold temperatures, low humidity and constant artificial heating. Adding products to your beauty arsenal that are rich in ingredients like ceramides can make a big difference and help support skin barrier repair. By restoring and strengthening our skin’s outer layer, we can help reduce moisture loss and better protect our skin against external factors and potential irritants. Your moisturiser is likely no longer cutting it, so it’s time to introduce a serum rich in hyaluronic acid, shea butter, glycerin and niacinamide. Serums absorb more deeply into the skin helping to replenish lost moisture and lipids. At night add a face oil as the last step to your routine. A good face oil not only locks in moisture, but also strengthens the skin barrier, and prevents winter dryness sealing in all your other skincare for lasting hydration and glow! Try: Hubislab Derma Max Brilliance Serum 2. Exfoliating your skin We all know exfoliation is important, but does it mean we are doing it weekly? Likely not. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you don’t need to remove those dead skin cells of yours! Exfoliation is essential all year round as it helps sweep away those dull, dead skin cells, allowing fresh, new ones to surface, and more importantly, it preps your skin to better absorb the serums, oils, and moisturisers you’re applying. Since skin tends to be more sensitive in winter, it’s best to choose a gentle enzyme or chemical exfoliant rather than a physical one (which often contains gritty beads that can be too harsh). Enzyme and chemical formulas work by dissolving dead skin rather than scrubbing it off, making them far kinder to dry or fragile winter skin. Try: Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant with natural enzymes  3. Wearing sunscreen In the winter months many of us get lazy when it comes to our SPF. Surely, we don’t need to wear sunscreen every day since it’s cold and cloudy? Wrong. Wearing sunscreen throughout the year no matter the weather is an essential. This is because sunscreen is an important step in protecting your skin barrier even in winter. UVB indexes differ significantly throughout the year, but UVA rays are present all year round come rain, hail or shine! And it’s UVA rays that accelerate signs of ageing causing wrinkles, sagging, and uneven texture! Try: Hubislab Post Rays UV Protect Sun Block SPF50+ PA+++ 4. Looking after your body We get it, you're bundled up in layers during winter, not lounging beach or poolside in a swimsuit. But just because your skin isn’t on show doesn’t mean it should be forgotten. In fact, colder months can be tougher on your body, often leading to dryness, flakiness, and irritation. That’s why winter is the perfect time to give your body some extra TLC. Treat your body like you do your face: hydrate daily and pay special attention to typically dry areas like elbows, knees, and heels. The more love you give your skin now, the smoother and more radiant it’ll be come spring! Pro tip: Apply a rich, nourishing body cream right after a warm (not scorching hot!) shower or bath. Your pores will be open, making it the ideal time to lock in long-lasting moisture. Try Pevonia Preserve Body Moisturiser 5. Your hands Your hands are the unsung heroes of your daily routine, constantly exposed to harsh winter elements, frequent washing, and sanitizing, yet they're often the last to receive proper care and in winter they are likely completely forgotten by many of us! The thing is your hands age faster than almost any other part of your body because the skin is thinner, has fewer oil glands, and gets more environmental exposure than your carefully pampered face. Those dry, cracked knuckles and paper-thin skin aren't just a winter inconvenience, they're signs that this hardworking part of your body needs some serious TLC. Adding proper hand care to your winter routine takes mere seconds but makes a dramatic difference. From choosing the right hand cream to protecting them from the elements, small changes can keep your hands looking as youthful and healthy as the rest of you. Because nothing gives away your age faster than neglected hands, no matter how flawless your facial skincare routine might be! Try: Pevonia Collagen Hand Cream

by Jo Boyden on Jun 16 2022
Even though we’ve been blessed with days of blue skies and sunshine these last few weeks, it doesn’t take away from the cold of winter and the havoc this season can play on our skin! Many of us will have noticed a change in our complexions of late! Why? Because with winter comes dull, devitalised skin thanks to both internal and external factors! And yes, while it’s time to make some serious changes with our skincare routine you’ll want to up the ante when it comes to your makeup choices too!Read on a we reveal our top 6 makeup must-haves this winter - nourishing and brightening products suitable for all! THE FOUNDATION - ELES Age Defying BB Cream 20If your skin is dull and lacking life you want to choose a foundation with hydrating and skin brightening benefits. After all your foundation should enhance your complexion, not mask it. This winter change up your foundation for one formulated with hyaluronic and Vitamin A, these key ingredients will help skin appear more hydrated, plumped and healthy!ELES Cosmetics range of foundations are all formulated with these skin boosting ingredients but for dreary devitalised skin a sheer or satin-finish foundation will be your best bet, especially as skin tends to be drier in the cooler, winter months! The ELES Age Defying BB Cream 20 is a multi-tasking miracle! It literally primes, tints, nourishes, protects, blurs and evens out your skin tone for a truly, natural, flawless finish. And thanks to its skin-loving ingredients over time it helps to promote cell health, strengthen elasticity, reduce the appearance of fine lines and restore that natural glow you once donned! What’s more, you’ll feel as though you aren’t even wearing makeup oh and it provides skin with the necessary sun protection which is just as imperative in the cooler winter months!THE COVER-UP - ELES Liquid ConcealerTo hide those dark circles, puffy tired eyes and pesky blemishes, ensure you are armed with a fabulous concealer! We are particularly loving the ELES Liquid Concealer this season. Not only is it rich in Vitamins C & E to condition, brighten and protect the skin, it instantly conceals the appearance of darkness and imperfections with one swipe! Oh, and the advanced formula provides a supple, comfortable finish for a more unified skin tone that wears for up to 8 hours.THE BRONZER – ELES Bronzer in Rio De JaneiroWe are all on a quest for that healthy youthful glow, especially in the winter months when it’s almost non-existent, so a bronzer is paramount! While at Beauty Collective we have a few fabulous bronzers we highly recommend you use the ELES Bronzer Rio De Janeiro. It’s formulated with micro-fine minerals which honestly deliver a sheer, healthy, bronzed finish every time! Plus, while you’re wearing it, you know it’s doing you skin good since the vitamins A, C & E are antioxidant vitamins that help to protect cells from free radical damage.Just remember though, dusting copious amounts of bronzer all over our nose, chin, cheeks and forehead can play up fine lines and large pores as the powder sinks into them. The best way (and the most flattering!) is to apply your bronzer with a bronzer brush to the perimeter of your face in the shape of a number three. Start on your forehead near your temples and loop down to the tops of your cheekbones, then curve out and around again along your jaw. THE BLUSH - ELES Baked BlushJust a few swipes of blush will not only add colour and depth to your cheeks but can make your entire complexion look healthier, and your skin more youthful. It adds an extra glow that bronzer and highlighter just can’t mimic. For winter (and all year round really!) we highly recommend the ELES Baked Blush in a shade of your preference – my current favourite is Posey. It adds instant radiance to your cheeks thanks to its highly pigmented formula. Plus, it’s silky smooth and super nourishing, great for dull, dehydrated skin types!Just be sure to apply it correctly – use a Blush Brush and lift colour upwards towards your temple from the apple of your cheek.THE HIGHLIGHTER – ELES Stick IlluminatorIf your skin is dull, you’ll need a little dose of liquid glow in the shape of an illuminator or highlighter! The ELES Stick Illuminator is our go-to. Simply apply to the tops of your cheekbones, brow bones and Cupid’s bow for a natural glow that will leave you looking rejuvenated and refreshed. Also, it’s formulated with aloe to help soothe and condition skin and antioxidant Vitamins C & E that help to protect cells from free radical damage. Perfect! THE FINISHING POWDER – Baked Finishing Powder in Diffused LightIf you’re looking for a miracle makeup item that can transform skin from dull to deliciously radiant in a matter of seconds, look no further! The ELES Baked Finishing Powder in Diffused Light acts like a photo filter on your skin, subtle enough for daily wear, yet gives you that truly “lit from within glow” in seconds! The microfine powder’s jet milled pigments bring a soft-focus finish for a blurring effect over imperfections and fine lines. Incredibly light, it never gets chalky, weighs down the skin or even looks like your wearing powder, yet keeps any shine at bay. And all you have to do is apply your morning skincare, then simply dust a light layer all over your face with a makeup brush and watch your skin truly transform. We are all on a quest for that healthy youthful glow, especially in the winter months when it’s almost non-existent, well boy does this product deliver!

Team BC’s skincare must-haves for winter

by Jo Boyden on Jul 15 2020
We’ve all heard that just as you alter your wardrobe to suit the season, you should update your skincare to compensate for the change in weather, and for good reason - cold days, zero humidity and artificial heating can put undue stress on our skin in the cool winter months, leading to a dry, lifeless or super sensitive complexion. So if you aren’t already, now is the time to introduce a number of winter skin saviours into your daily routine. Read on to find out what products the BC pro’s highly recommend to ensure your skin glows through the cold months ahead. Vitaminic ConcentrateBy integrating an oil into your nighttime routine during winter will strengthen your skin’s barrier, locking in hydration, preventing moisture loss and rendering skin plump and oh so glowy (seriously!) Oils are for everyone, so don’t be scared to use them. For many years now I have turned to my faithful friend Pevonia’s Vitaminic Concentrate during the winter months and I can honestly say it’s a game-changer for my skin. It’s a luxurious dry oil (so absorbs very fast!) with a mandarin aroma which is to die for, and it radically combats excessive dryness, dehydration, and premature aging all in one!Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream & Intensifier Collagen and Myoxy CaviarIf Hyaluronic Acid doesn’t already feature in your daily skincare routine, now is a great time to start! It really is a year-round essential, but is hands down my most-loved skincare ‘must’ during the winter period. This is because hyaluronic is the don when it comes to hydration – and dehydration is the no. 1 skincare issue during the cooler months! My ‘cannot live without’ this season is Pevonia’s Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream. It combines both hyaluronic acid with marine collagen in a rich silky cream to infuse skin with moisture replenishing vital nutrients. Love love love it!Use in conjunction with the Intensifier and you will reap the rewards. No more dry, lacklustre skin! Just radiant, moisture-rich skin instead. Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing CreamWinter is the perfect time to introduce a nourishing night cream! Skin cells do their greatest renewal and repair whist we sleep, so applying much needed hydration at night is encouraged to maximise absorption and to enhance your skin barrier. In the winter months I use Phytomer’s Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream religiously because my skin demands that extra layer of rich moisturiser. The cream literally cocoons my skin in nourishing hydration and really does restore youthful vitality by morning. I simply love how my skin looks and feels when I wake up so why would I ever turn to another product when I’ve found my one! Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant with Natural EnzymesIt may be the last thing on your mind when you have dry, itchy or sensitive skin but there are huge benefits to exfoliating your skin during winter. Not only does it slough off those dry, dead skin cells but it also helps you regenerate new ones! Just be sure to opt for a chemical (don’t let the name scare you) as opposed to physical exfoliant though. Physical – the kind that use granules to physically scrub off dead skin cells – can be too harsh for already vulnerable winter skin and in turn result in further dryness. No thanks! Instead use an exfoliator formulated with AHA’s, BHA’s or natural enzymes which gently dissolve the top layer of your dead skin. My winter go-to is the Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant with Natural Enzymes, it’s a soft and gentle exfoliant formulated with natural enzymes that encourage cell turnover without scrubbing or irritating your skin. I use it twice a week and my skin is always smooth, soft and visibly luminous after! Give it a go, I promise your skin will thank you! Phytomer Algodefense SPF 20 Multi-Protective Wrinkle CreamI am a stickler for sunscreen and for good reason. Along with a few other key ingredients SPF is hands down THE most important anti-ager. Most will reach for a sunscreen automatically during the warmer months but it’s just as important to shield skin from harmful UV’s during winter. In the summer I like to use a lightweight moisturiser with higher spf for my face, however for winter I have used started using the Phytomer Algodefense SPF 20 Multi-Protective Wrinkle Cream and I’m in LOVE. It is nurturing and hydrating as well as protecting! And my skin is all the more better for it! It’s rediscovered its radiance. At the top of my go-to list for winter skincare now! Phytomer Oleocreme Ultra-Nourishing Hand CreamA good hand cream is an absolute essential for me in winter and hey why shouldn’t we look after our hands as we do our face and body? The thing is before I discovered Phytomer’s Oleocreme Ultra-Nourishing Hand Cream I hated the feel of wearing hand cream and I’d want to wash my hands immediately after I’d applied it, so instead I used to bear the brunt of dry cracked skin! Not anymore! My favourite hand cream (and I’ve tried many) absorbs into skin immediately and intensely nourishes, soothes and softens my dry, damaged hands. I take it everywhere I go! Pevonia Dry Oil Body MoisturiserDuring the winter months I, like many, can be very guilty of neglecting areas of my body which I religiously attend to in summer! But it’s important to maintain routines all year around after all your body skin loses moisture just like your face! You know that tight itchy feeling we all experience all too often in winter? Now, if you’re not one for applying rich body moisturisers I hear you. Yes richer formulations containing ingredients such a shea butter can be very nourishing and beneficial for your skin, but a dry body oil to ensure your skin doesn’t become dry and flaky can be just as effective and make a huge difference too! Pevonia’s Dry Oil Body Moisturiser is my go-to. It quite literally indulges my skin without an oily or greasy feeling. It is incredibly nourishing but absorbs immediately which I LOVE and my skin feels silky-soft after every application.I think it’s best to apply it straight out of the shower or bath while skin is still damp to lock in moisture. Plus it’ll restore any moisture lost from standing under that super-hot water we all love to indulge in!
