by Jo Boyden on Jan 16 2026
New product launches are constant and it’s not always easy to find products that actually live up to their claims! But every so often, a few genuinely exceptional products arrive that make you rethink your entire routine and wonder how you ever managed without them! Cue 3 new launches from Phytomer which combine advanced marine biotechnology with sensory, skin-loving textures and we simply can’t get enough of them! From an indulgent antioxidant serum formulated with the latest buzz (marine exosomes), to a gentle foaming, calming cleanser perfect for everyone! To a luxurious cream that feels like a facial in a jar, these 3 products aren't just clever marketing or pretty packaging, they're the kind of products that you’ll want to add to your daily routine too, because they genuinely deliver! Sound good? Keep reading to find out why they deserve a spot in your beauty routine and stat!   1. Phytomer ROSÉE VISAGE Gentle Cleansing Foam A great skincare routine always starts with cleansing and this beautiful gentle foaming cleanser proves that gentle can still be incredibly effective! It’s a light, creamy mousse that feels amazing but more importantly removes impurities without stripping the skin or disrupting its natural balance. Infused with calming Rose Water and Phytomer’s signature Oligomer, it not only cleanses skin though but also supports skins vitality by delivering essential marine trace elements. What’s more it really is perfect for all skin types, including delicate or easily sensitised skin. It leaves the complexion feeling clean, fresh, and soothed, never tight or uncomfortable which can unfortunately be the case with some cleansers. Ideal for both morning and evening use, this is the kind of cleanser that feels comforting, a little luxurious and is exactly what skin should have every day for a perfectly refreshed, calm and balanced complexion. So if you love creamy foaming cleansers like me, this is about to become your new go-to! 2. Phytomer OLIGOPERFORMANCE Protective Antioxidant Serum with Marine Exosomes If your skin deals with pollution, daily stress, or those early signs of ageing we all start noticing, this is one serum worth paying attention to. Phytomer’s OLIGOPERFORMANCE Protective Antioxidant Serum is designed to work behind the scenes, protecting your skin from oxidative damage while helping it look brighter, firmer, and more resilient over time. The texture is a dream! A lightweight micro-emulsion that melts straight in and leaves skin feeling plump and comfortable, never heavy or greasy. But it’s not just about how it feels. Clinical results show firmer-looking skin in just one week, with brighter tone and visible dark spot improvement with continued use! What really makes this serum stand out though, is the science behind it! OLIGOPERFORMANCE is powered by Marine Exosomes (tiny cellular messengers that are being hailed as the next generation in skincare, beyond growth factors and traditional anti-ageing ingredients!) Phytomer sources these exosomes from ancient blue microalgae, setting them apart from many formulas that rely on plant cells, milk, or human stem cell technologies. These marine exosomes work by boosting Thioredoxin production, a powerful antioxidant naturally present in the skin. This helps protect vital structures like collagen and elastin from free radical damage which is key when it comes to maintaining firmness and skin quality long-term. The formula is also supported by Phytomer’s signature marine actives, including Red Coral to help stimulate collagen and improve skin density, and Sea Lily to visibly reduce the appearance and intensity of dark spots. The result? Skin that looks brighter, firmer, and more even, not just instantly, but with ongoing use. So if you’re focused on skin longevity, prevention, and keeping your complexion strong and healthy, this serum is the perfect addition to your routine. Want to know why we know you’ll love it? Think of it like this, advanced antioxidant protection, visible radiance, improved firmness, and a lightweight texture that fits seamlessly into any routine! 3. Phytomer PERLES DES MERS Longevity Cream This breakthrough cream carries a hefty price tag but for good reason! If you want anti-ageing results and fast, you are going to get them with this deeply nourishing, sensorial cream! I’m not lying when I say its skincare at its most luxurious, and most powerful! It’s Phytomer’s ultimate marine anti-ageing balm, created after years of research into skin longevity and marine biotechnology. A longevity treatment cream, created for skin that needs more than hydration or wrinkle-smoothing, skin that’s changing, slowing down, or no longer responding the way it used to. It’s a rich, balm-like cream with the most divine, subtle scent of tea, rose and bergamont, that melts (literally) beautifully into the skin, delivering immediate comfort and deep nourishment that lasts all day, ideal for skin that’s dry, depleted, hormonally changing, or post-treatment. What truly sets this cream apart though is its focus on skin longevity at a cellular level. At the heart of the formula are biofermented marine micro-pearls, developed after years of marine biotechnology research. These rare actives help reactivate sirtuins (the skin’s longevity proteins) which naturally decline with age and by stimulating them, the cream helps awaken these “genes of youth” and boost cellular regeneration. Most anti-ageing creams focus on surface results, this one supports how the skin functions over time! As well as the biofermented marine micro-pearls, it’s formulated with Phytomer’s most powerful marine ingredients, including Chlorella, Brown Algae, Sea Lily, Vitamin B3, Ceramides, and the brand’s iconic Oligomer®, all working synergistically to strengthen the skin barrier, improve density, tone the skin, smooth wrinkles, target dark spots, and support long-term resilience. So, who is it really for? Perles des Mes is the ultimate solution for anyone who has already tried “great” anti-ageing products and is now looking for the next level! Whether that’s due to menopause, accelerated ageing, chronic dryness, or simply wanting the most advanced care available. Over just 28 days, skin appears smoother, firmer, more radiant, and visibly revitalised. Wrinkles, dark spots, uneven texture, and dullness are all visibly improved.  So, whether you’re looking to update your routine, boost protection, or invest in next-level anti-ageing care, these three Phytomer launches deliver truly deliver. Carefully crafted with powerful marine actives, they work to cleanse, protect, and rejuvenate your skin at every step. Think of them as the ultimate trio, a soothing cleanser, a protective antioxidant serum, and the ultimate anti-ageing balm that brings back your skin’s radiance and resilience!
Winter skin beauty: 5 essential steps you may be missing

Winter skin beauty: 5 essential steps you may be missing

by Jo Boyden on Aug 01 2025
Wondering why your skincare routine isn’t delivering the results you expect? You could be unknowingly skipping a few crucial steps. From smart layering techniques to moisture-boosting must-haves, discover 5 skincare essentials your complexion could be missing, but definitely needs!   1. Effective skin barrier repair Our skin can really suffer in winter when it comes to cold temperatures, low humidity and constant artificial heating. Adding products to your beauty arsenal that are rich in ingredients like ceramides can make a big difference and help support skin barrier repair. By restoring and strengthening our skin’s outer layer, we can help reduce moisture loss and better protect our skin against external factors and potential irritants. Your moisturiser is likely no longer cutting it, so it’s time to introduce a serum rich in hyaluronic acid, shea butter, glycerin and niacinamide. Serums absorb more deeply into the skin helping to replenish lost moisture and lipids. At night add a face oil as the last step to your routine. A good face oil not only locks in moisture, but also strengthens the skin barrier, and prevents winter dryness sealing in all your other skincare for lasting hydration and glow! Try: Hubislab Derma Max Brilliance Serum 2. Exfoliating your skin We all know exfoliation is important, but does it mean we are doing it weekly? Likely not. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you don’t need to remove those dead skin cells of yours! Exfoliation is essential all year round as it helps sweep away those dull, dead skin cells, allowing fresh, new ones to surface, and more importantly, it preps your skin to better absorb the serums, oils, and moisturisers you’re applying. Since skin tends to be more sensitive in winter, it’s best to choose a gentle enzyme or chemical exfoliant rather than a physical one (which often contains gritty beads that can be too harsh). Enzyme and chemical formulas work by dissolving dead skin rather than scrubbing it off, making them far kinder to dry or fragile winter skin. Try: Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant with natural enzymes  3. Wearing sunscreen In the winter months many of us get lazy when it comes to our SPF. Surely, we don’t need to wear sunscreen every day since it’s cold and cloudy? Wrong. Wearing sunscreen throughout the year no matter the weather is an essential. This is because sunscreen is an important step in protecting your skin barrier even in winter. UVB indexes differ significantly throughout the year, but UVA rays are present all year round come rain, hail or shine! And it’s UVA rays that accelerate signs of ageing causing wrinkles, sagging, and uneven texture! Try: Hubislab Post Rays UV Protect Sun Block SPF50+ PA+++ 4. Looking after your body We get it, you're bundled up in layers during winter, not lounging beach or poolside in a swimsuit. But just because your skin isn’t on show doesn’t mean it should be forgotten. In fact, colder months can be tougher on your body, often leading to dryness, flakiness, and irritation. That’s why winter is the perfect time to give your body some extra TLC. Treat your body like you do your face: hydrate daily and pay special attention to typically dry areas like elbows, knees, and heels. The more love you give your skin now, the smoother and more radiant it’ll be come spring! Pro tip: Apply a rich, nourishing body cream right after a warm (not scorching hot!) shower or bath. Your pores will be open, making it the ideal time to lock in long-lasting moisture. Try Pevonia Preserve Body Moisturiser 5. Your hands Your hands are the unsung heroes of your daily routine, constantly exposed to harsh winter elements, frequent washing, and sanitizing, yet they're often the last to receive proper care and in winter they are likely completely forgotten by many of us! The thing is your hands age faster than almost any other part of your body because the skin is thinner, has fewer oil glands, and gets more environmental exposure than your carefully pampered face. Those dry, cracked knuckles and paper-thin skin aren't just a winter inconvenience, they're signs that this hardworking part of your body needs some serious TLC. Adding proper hand care to your winter routine takes mere seconds but makes a dramatic difference. From choosing the right hand cream to protecting them from the elements, small changes can keep your hands looking as youthful and healthy as the rest of you. Because nothing gives away your age faster than neglected hands, no matter how flawless your facial skincare routine might be! Try: Pevonia Collagen Hand Cream
Day cream vs. night cream: Are both necessary for your skin?

Day cream vs. night cream: Are both necessary for your skin?

by Jo Boyden on Jul 25 2025
We all know moisturising in the morning is essential, after all a good day cream acts as a protective barrier, locking in hydration, smoothing the skin, helping sunscreen apply more evenly, and even boosting the staying power of your makeup! But what about a night cream? Is it really essential too? Or is this extra step in your skincare routine just a clever marketing ploy? Can’t you just use your trusty day cream at night? And what even is the difference between a day cream and night cream anyway? Well, we have the answers! Keep reading as we explain how using a night cream (not just a day cream!) can make a huge difference to your skin and the night cream we can’t get enough of!   Understanding the difference between a day and night cream When it comes to optimizing your skincare, using both a day cream and a night cream isn’t just an indulgence, it’s one of the smartest ways to care for your skin around the clock! Why? Because each cream is uniquely formulated to cater to your skin’s shifting needs throughout the day, and while you sleep! During the day, your skin faces a barrage of environmental stressors, think UV rays, pollution, blue light damage, fluctuating temperature and oxidative stress. Day creams are your skin’s first line of defence! Their primary duties are to protect, hydrate, and reinforce the skin’s barrier, leaving it smooth and comfortable. At Night, however, while you sleep your body enters repair mode, and your skin is no exception. Cell regeneration is at its peak overnight, making it the ideal time to deliver deep hydration, skin-repairing actives, and nutrients that restore the complexion. Night creams tend to be richer in texture and packed with higher concentrations of active ingredients to promote renewal without the interruption of external aggressors.   The Perfect Pair for 24/7 skincare Day: Phytomer Expert Youth Wrinkle Plumping Cream This luxurious cream is a powerhouse of marine biotechnology, designed to smooth fine lines, plump the skin, and support firmness throughout the day. Formulated with Red Vegetal Coral and Brown Algae, it works beautifully under makeup and helps defend against visible signs of ageing, all while keeping skin supple and radiant. I personally LOVE it! And when you purchase the Expert Youth Wrinkle Plumping Cream this July, you will receive a FREE best-selling Phytomer Cleanser – The Souffle Marin Cleansing Foaming Cream! Night: Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream This night cream is specially designed to help skin recover from daily stress! It’s skin-replenishing formula is enriched with marine extracts that help detoxify, firm, and deeply nourish the skin overnight. Beautifully silky and ultra-comforting, it literally cocoons skin while you sleep working to reduce signs of fatigue, improve elasticity and bring back your glow by morning, seriously! It’s formulated with the best in marine ingredients including D-Tox Microalgae (designed to promote the elimination of free radicals, toxins, and pollutants detoxifying the skin while you sleep), and Marine Mannitol (an active ingredient which helps to re-oxygenate tired and "asphyxiated" cells) as well as Laminaria Digitata Extract, Salicornia Herbacea Extract and Jojoba & Sunflower Seed Wax to deeply nourish, revitalise and strengthen the skin! Both my colleagues and I simply love how it makes our skin look and feel when we wake (I’m talking glowy, plumper and just more youthful looking!) What’s more it complements the Phytomer Expert Youth Wrinkle Plumping Cream beautifully, working in sync to boost cell renewal, reinforce the skin barrier, and ensure you wake up to a plumper, more youthful glow every morning!  So, do you really need both a day and night cream? If your goal is healthy, youthful, and balanced skin the answer is yes! By choosing creams tailored to your skin’s needs at different times of the day, you’re giving your complexion the full spectrum of care it deserves!
Winter-proof your skin: 12 expert beauty tips

Winter-proof your skin: 12 expert beauty tips

by Jo Boyden on Jun 06 2025
Cold winds, harsh heaters and low humidity - winter can cause havoc when it comes to our skin! But with the right seasonal switch-up, you can avoid the dullness, dryness and a little extra sensitivity that winter can bring. From hydration hacks to skincare swaps, keep reading as we share 12 expert beauty tips that will ensure your skin remains healthy and hydrated this season.      1. Overhaul your cleansing routine  This is often the first and most critical step when it comes to your skincare. Your foaming cleanser that felt refreshing in summer might be too harsh for your skin come winter so it’s time to switch to a creamy or milky cleanser that’s hydrating and non-stripping! Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or nourishing oils. These types of cleansers remove impurities without stripping away your skin's vital natural oils.  And be sure you avoid cleansing skin with hot, hot water! While as tempting as it can me (and I most certainly have been guilty in the past!) scorching hot showers and baths strip your skin of its natural protective barrier! Instead stick to lukewarm water for both face and body cleansing.  Top tip: Pat, don't rub, your skin dry after cleansing to retain as much moisture as possible   2. Up the ante with your hydration   Winter calls for a little extra TLC when it comes to your skin. As temperatures drop, you might notice your skin becoming a little dry and fragile and the products that were working wonders in the summer months might no longer be enough, this is where layering your skincare correctly becomes an essential.   After cleansing, and before applying your moisturiser, apply a good hydrating serum to your still damp skin (for optimal absorption).  Serums are a must-have in any skincare routine because they deliver high concentrations of active ingredients deep into the skin. Lightweight and fast absorbing, they target specific concerns like dehydration, wrinkles, or dullness, boosting results and enhancing the effectiveness of your moisturiser. Look for ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, or Panthenol (Vitamin B5). These ingredients draw moisture from the air (and from subsequent products) into your skin. Next apply your moisturiser. Subsequently followed by your sunscreen if your day moisturiser doesn’t already include SPF.    3. Upgrade your moisturiser  You might need to up the ante with your day moisturiser by choosing one that is a little richer and nourishing that the one you’ve come to love over the sizzling summer months.     4. Keep using sunscreen  Just because it might be cold and cloudy doesn’t mean the UV rays are gone! Use an SPF 30 or higher daily, especially if you’re using active ingredients like retinol.  Just remember UV radiation contributes to dryness, collagen breakdown, and pigmentation, regardless of the temperature!    5. Use a night cream if you aren’t already  At night, using a good night cream (as opposed to your day moisturiser) can make all the difference to how your skin both looks and feels. This is because night creams are designed to deeply nourish, repair, and hydrate your skin while you sleep, the time when our skin naturally goes into intense regeneration and recovery mode. Unlike your lighter day moisturiser (which focuses more on protecting the skin’s barrier from external stressors like UV rays and pollution), night creams are usually richer in texture, packed with a higher concentration of active and restorative ingredients like shea butter, ceramides, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and essential vitamins and oils and work to replenish lost moisture and strengthen your barrier overnight so you wake up to soft, smooth and healthy looking skin!   6. A face oil can be essential  After applying your night cream, apply a face oil too. If you don't already use one, winter is the ultimate time to introduce these skin-loving elixirs.   While night creams hydrate and repair, face oils, rich in essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins, act like a barrier, strengthening the skin and sealing in all the moisture and active ingredients underneath so your skin gets maximum benefits. They basically provide an extra layer of nourishment and protection that your skin craves during colder months. Plus, they add a beautiful glow and can calm redness or irritation often caused by harsh winter weather.  Think of it like this, your serum and night cream feed your skin, and your face oil protects that nourishment, ensuring your skin wakes up soft, supple, and well-hydrated.  Look for: Oils rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants like Jojoba, Mandarin, Argan, Squalane, Rosehip, Rosa Centifolia Flower Extract or Grapefruit Oil.  7. Exfoliate wisely  In winter, exfoliation is just as important as you’ll still need to remove dull, dead skin cells, but the approach needs to be gentler than before. Instead of exfoliating the 2-3 times a week, that you do in summer, once a week should be sufficient. You’ll also want to switch from any harsh physical scrubs with large particles to chemical exfoliants with milder acids like Lactic Acid or PHAs (Polyhydroxy Acids). Enzyme exfoliants are also a great gentle option. If you prefer a physical scrub, ensure it has very fine, uniform particles.  Top tip: Listen to Your Skin! If it’s feeling tight, red, or irritated after exfoliating, you're overdoing it.   8. Apply a mask  Another little luxury for your skin, invaluable all year around but extremely beneficial in winter is a mask!   A good hydrating face mask acts as an intensive treatment, replenishing lost moisture, soothing sensitivity, and reinforcing the skin barrier. Packed with nourishing ingredients, it helps restore softness, glow, and resilience!    9. Winter hair care  Just like the skin on your face, your hair and scalp can also suffer from dryness and static in winter so make sure you are using gentle, hydrating and sulfate-free shampoos and rich conditioners and incorporate a weekly hair treatments to replenish moisture and strengthen strands.   10. Don’t forget your hands!  Unfortunately, the harsh winter weather can leave our often-neglected hands dry, cracked, and uncomfortable! A quality hand cream restores and locks in hydration, creates a protective barrier against environmental stressors, and nourishes skin with ingredients like shea butter, squalane, or natural oils. Regular use not only keeps your hands soft and smooth, but also helps prevent premature ageing and soothes irritation, ensuring your hands stay healthy and resilient throughout the colder months. 11. Stay hydrated from within  Drinking enough water (and herbal teas) helps keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Eating healthy fats like avocados, nuts, and fish can also boost skin hydration. 12. Treat yourself to at-home spa sessions  Warm, relaxing baths with aromatic bath oils or stress-relieving gels are not only calming but deeply nourishing for your skin and soul. Treat yourself to weekly spa-at-home sessions and let your skin (and you!) reap the benefits.   For the best beauty buys this winter for soft glowing skin click here.

If you love summer like me, you’ll likely be enjoying the warm, longer days and outdoor activities, but sadly, the summer heat can be harsh on our skin, leaving it feeling dry, tight, or even irritated. And unlike our skincare, many of us are guilty of not looking after the skin on our bodies daily, as we should!  If you’ve been overdoing it in the sun, simply find your skin drier than it usually is, or are worried about ageing and a crepey uneven skin tone, it’s time to get serious about what you’re applying to your body. Focus on problem areas: Yes! You should be applying your cream all over your body but make sure you do pay extra attention to areas prone to dryness or crepiness, such as elbows, knees, and the back of your hands. Use SPF daily: This is a given! Make sure you apply and then reapply sunscreen throughout the day to protect your skin from UV damage. Exfoliate weekly: Gently exfoliate your skin to remove dead cells. It will allow your moisturiser to penetrate better and be more effective!   From preventing dryness to soothing sunburn, the perfect body moisturizer can make all the difference in your summer skincare routine.

Skincare layering: How to maximize your skincare results

Skincare layering: How to maximize your skincare results

by Jo Boyden on Oct 18 2024
Achieving healthy, glowing skin isn’t about relying on just one miracle product, it’s about mastering the art of skincare layering! By carefully layering the right products in the correct order in your daily routine, you will not only maximise each products efficacy, you’ll achieve your best skin yet too! But how do you get it right you might be asking? With so many lotions and potions and treatments, we know mastering your skincare routine can be somewhat overwhelming, but that’s why we are here to help you build a routine that works for your skin. From cleansing to SPF, keep reading as we count down the essential steps of skincare layering and how each step plays a vital role in maintaining a truly flawless complexion.   Why skincare laying is important Skincare layering isn't just another beauty trend! It's a science-backed approach to maximizing the benefits of your products. When you layer the essentials in the correct order, the lighter, thinner ones (like serums) can penetrate deeper into your skin, allowing the heavier products (like moisturisers) to seal in the benefits for maximum results. Layering also allows you to target multiple skin concerns at once, plus, it ensures you get the most out of those high-performance ingredients!   Step 1: Cleanse your skin I’m sure we all know that the first step to any skincare routine is to cleanse your skin. You want to make sure you start your day (and night!) with a clean canvas! Cleansing helps remove excess oil, dirt and impurities preparing your skin for the subsequent steps.  If you don’t cleanse, the products to follow will simply not work their magic as they won’t be able to penetrate your skin effectively for optimal results. You need to be savvy with which cleanser you choose though. For more information on cleansing and the best cleanser for your skin click here. Additional tips: Make sure you use warm water when cleansing, hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils causing havoc. Gently pat dry when finished, you don’t want to rub your skin! And double cleansing at night can help remove stubborn sunscreen and makeup, ensuring your skin is perfectly prepped for your nighttime ritual!   Step 2: Exfoliate This isn’t a step you should be doing daily as you can over exfoliate skin and cause damage. Once or twice weekly is usually sufficient. And make sure you choose a product that suits your skins specific needs. If you have sensitive skin you are best to opt for a gentle exfoliant or enzyme exfoliant which doesn’t use abrasive granules. As the name would suggest, they exfoliate using enzymes which help to break down the keratin in the skin's upper layers, which helps lift off dead skin cells. The enzymes literally digest the dead skin on your face!! No matter what your skin type, you are going to fall in love with Pevonia’s Enzymo Spherides Peeling Cream, one of our favourites at BC! This little beauty (a mini facial in a jar as I call it!) does wonders for the skin. And no don’t let the word ‘peel’ put you off! It combines natural fruit pineapple and papaya enzymes to gently and effectively eliminate impurities, blackheads, dead cells and toxins and it’s so easy to use! Simply apply a thin layer to cleansed skin, wet your fingertips with warm water (this will help to ‘wake up’ the enzymes) and work the peeling cream with gentle massage movements into skin, leave on for 5 minutes and then thoroughly rinse away. Nothing makes skin feel cleaner, softer, smoother and brighter than this jar of goodness!! Trust me. Remember like cleansing, exfoliating will help remove oil, dirt and impurities from your skin but by penetrating deeper into the pores. Exfoliating will slough away dead cells revealing  the newer cells underneath for a smoother and brighter complexion.   Step 3. Don’t forget to tone! A toner is often a step that many of us miss from our routine, but it really is a key step as it helps balance your skin's pH after cleansing. A good toner will remove any lingering impurities or makeup, and prep your skin for the next steps. Toners can also provide hydration, minimize the appearance of pores, and improve the absorption of serums and moisturisers! Additional tips: If you have sensitive skin exfoliating after toner may be gentler and less likely to cause irritation. The same goes for dry skin, exfoliating after toner can help remove dead skin cells without over-drying your skin. Also when searching for the right toner, look for ones with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid or soothing agents like rosewater. Hands down one of our favourites when it comes to skin toning is Phytomer's Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion. It’s perfect for all skin types and ensures any leftover signs of residual makeup or oil is completely removed to reveal what I would describe as perfectly clean, glowing skin! Oh and its formulated with rosewater! We also highly recommend Pevonia’s best-selling Hydrating Toner. Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice, and Vitamin E, it works to hydrate, revive and fully refresh the skin. Great for anyone with worried about ageing, dehydration or devitalised skin.   Step 4: Apply a serum Ask any skincare expert and they’ll tell you that a really, really good serum is an imperative step in your daily skincare routine. In fact, these treatment powerhouses packed with active ingredients address specific skin issues more effectively than both moisturisers and lotions because they are made up of smaller molecules that can penetrate deeper into the skin and effectively deliver maximum results. Their job is to literally repair the skin at a cellular level and act on a wide range of skin concerns like fine lines, dark spots, dullness, rosacea and more! in fact there is a serum for every skin type and condition! Additional tips: We love a good vitamin C serum in the morning as it will not only brighten you skin but it’s the perfect product to protect against free radical damage and using a retinol serum at night will boost cell turnover and fight ageing. Just remember if you’re layering multiple serums (which is ok too), apply the water-based ones first, followed by oil-based serums. For more information on the multiple benefits of serums and our anti-ageing favourites for every skin type click here   Step 5: Lock it in with moisturiser We ALL know moisturising is crucial to keeping our skin hydrated, but moisturisers also act as a sealant to lock in the benefits of that serum you just applied! And remember moisturiser is a must for all skin types, even if you have oily or combination skin! Simply use a lightweight oil free moisturiser or lotion for oily skin, or a rich cream if your skin tends to be dry. Same applies for other skin conditions or concerns, choose the right moisturiser suited to your specific needs. Additional tips: Moisturisers with hyaluronic acid are especially great at pulling moisture into the skin, giving you that plump, glowing look we all love!   Step 6: Do not forget your eyes! The delicate skin around your eyes is one of the first areas to show signs of ageing, so be sure to treat this area with love and care as you do the rest of your face! But using your everyday face moisturiser will not suffice. Eye treatments whether it be creams, gels or serums are specifically formulated to target and care for the delicate area around the eyes, the thinnest layer of skin on our entire bodies! In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage. Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia. Eye creams also tend to be targeted to specific eye concerns such as crow’s feet, under eye bags and dark circles. Additional tips: Using an eye cream packed with peptides, caffeine, or hyaluronic acid can help reduce puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines. We highly recommend Pevonia Age Correction Eye Contour. It gives tired, ageing eyes the burst of hydration they need! Deeply nourishing and decongesting thanks to its combination of marine collagen, hyaluronic acid, green tea and marine elastin, it targets signs of fatigue, visibly reducing puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles. What more could you want? If you prefer the feeling of a cooling eye gel to soothe and depuff your peepers though we also LOVE Pevonia’s C Evolutive Eye Gel. Anti-ageing dynamo Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and Ginkgo Biloba work together to deliver not only decongesting and brightening benefits but they also affectively target dark circles and wrinkles too! The results speak for themselves. Renewed, rejuvenated, refreshed and visibly brighter eye contour with visible reduction in wrinkles.   Step 7: Now it’s time for your SPF! (Morning only) The last and arguably most important step in your morning routine is SPF. The non-negotiable! Why? Because sun exposure is the number one cause of premature ageing, from fine lines and wrinkles to hyperpigmentation, so protecting your skin from UV rays is crucial. Just be sure to opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen (to protect against both UVA and UVB rays, with at least SPF 30. Additional tip: If you’re using a product like retinol at night, SPF is even more important during the day, as retinol can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. And even if you're indoors or it's cloudy, UV rays can still affect your skin.   Step 8: Get masking Face masks can offer many physical and therapeutic benefits, from hydrating your complexion to improving the appearance of pores, to creating an overall sense of wellbeing and relaxation, but first and foremost masks provide cleansing on a deep deep level benefiting your skin in multiple ways. Don’t get me wrong your daily cleansing is imperative to your skincare routine, but applying a mask once or twice a week takes this process to a whole new level by removing any remaining makeup, excess oil, dead skin cells and other impurities on the skin’s surface as well as beneath the upper layers of the epidermis. By removing the dirt and bacteria from deep inside your skin, face masks will refine pores, they can also help to stimulate blood circulation causing the blood vessels to expand. The result is softer skin with greater elasticity and a glow that’s instantly noticeable. Yes, please! For the best face masks for every skin concern click here.   Step 9: Use a nighttime treatment At night, you have the chance to truly pamper your skin with a face oil. These can be added a couple of times a week to give your skin an extra boost of hydration, or repair, depending on your needs. Think of them as a way to supercharge your routine! Using a face oil at night helps lock in moisture, repair the skin barrier, and nourish your skin while you sleep. Rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, face oils boost hydration, smooth fine lines, and leave your skin radiant and rejuvenated by morning. For more on the benefits of face oils and the best ones for your skin click here.   Skincare layering might seem like an art, but once you understand the steps and how to combine them, it becomes second nature. The best part? As you refine your routine, you’ll start seeing the results you want! We are talking healthier, more radiant skin that looks and feels its best.

The secret to a flawless finish: Must-have beauty products

by Jo Boyden on Aug 16 2024
I’m sure I’m right in saying we’d all love to achieve that coveted flawless finish - a smooth, even complexion that looks naturally radiant and free of imperfections! While achieving perfection might seem like the impossible for some, I’m here to tell you that with the right products and techniques, you can definitely get pretty darn close! Keep reading as we reveal the beauty products you need to help you achieve a truly flawless finish. Start with a good skincare routine Before you even think about makeup, lets talk skincare! To achieve a flawless finish you need to get your skincare routine down pat as no makeup, no matter how good it is, will apply smoothy without going onto healthy, hydrated skin! Cleanser First things first, you need to make sure your skin is perfectly cleansed. A cleanser preps skin by removing dirt, oil, and impurities that can clog pores and lead to breakouts or uneven texture. Clean skin allows your makeup to adhere better and last longer, creating a smoother canvas for application. A good cleanser also balances the skin’s pH, preventing dryness or excessive oiliness that can affect your makeup applying smoothly. By starting with a clean, refreshed face, you will set the foundation for a radiant, flawless complexion. Exfoliator Your exfoliator will not only help remove dead skin cells (which if left on the surface of your skin can lead to clogged pores, dullness and rough skin texture!) but by exfoliating your skin you will enable your skincare products like your moisturiser and serum to penetrate more deeply and effectively, in turn boosting their efficacy and therefore deeply nourishing your skin, and as I said before makeup will never look and feel flawless without going onto a healthy, hydrated complexion. You don’t need to exfoliate every day though as this can lead to over-exfoliation, once or twice weekly is ideal. Moisturiser This is non-negotiable. Just be sure to choose a moisturiser suited to your skin type. For combination to oily skin you’ll want to opt for a lightweight, oil free formula. For ageing, dry and dehydrated skin a richer cream formulated with hyaluronic acid should be your go to. N.B. Applying a serum under your moisturiser for an added extra boost of nourishment can be a real game-changer when it comes to achieving that truly flawless finish. Primer When it comes to your makeup, the foundation of a flawless look starts with a good primer. A primer fills in pores, smooths fine lines and skin texture, brightens and primes skin, and preps it for makeup oh and it helps your makeup last longer too! N.B Look for one that matches your skin type—a hydrating primer for dry skin or mattifying primer for oily skin. Now it’s time for your makeup. Foundation Now, let's talk foundation. Your foundation will help even out skin tone, cover blemishes, minimise the appearance of pores and increase skins luminosity! The key though is to find a shade that matches your skin tone perfectly and a formula that suits your skin type. Matte for oily skin, dewy for dry skin. To learn more about the perfect foundation for your skin type click here. Concealer If you suffer from dark circles, are prone to redness or are currently dealing with blemishes or imperfections a concealer should be your go to for touching up your skin! Opt for one that provides full coverage without caking, blending seamlessly into your skin for a natural finish. Blush & Bronzer A blush or bronzer will really enhance your features adding to that flawless finish. They add warmth and dimension to your face. Blush gives your cheeks a healthy glow, while bronzer contours your features for a sun-kissed look. Illuminator or highlighter An illuminator be it stick, powder or cream, will create a natural highlight, and gives skin a fresh, delicate glow, perfect for a brighter appearance! Apply to cheekbones, brow bones, and cupid's bow. Setting your makeup is essential To ensure your makeup stays put all day, setting products are essential! You can opt for a translucent powder which can help control shine while setting your foundation, or simply use a setting spray to lock your makeup in place, preventing smudging and fading. The finishing touches If it’s a complete look you’re going for, you’ll want to finish off with a few other makeup essentials. Eyebrows Well-groomed eyebrows frame your face so youll want to invest in a good eyebrow product, be it a precision pencil or a brow balm. Eyeshadow Eyeshadow enhances your eyes by adding depth, dimension, and colour. It can highlight your eye shape and complement your overall look too! Choose a neutral eyeshadow palette for an everyday look. Mascara Mascara accentuates your eyes by defining, lengthening, and volumizing your lashes, making them appear fuller and more defined.  Lipstick or Lip Gloss Completing your makeup with a lipstick or lip gloss will add colour and dimension as well as a polished finish to your face. These products help define your lips, making them stand out and balancing the overall makeup. Whether you opt for a bold lipstick or a subtle gloss, both will enhance your features and tie the entire look together. Plus, they can complement your outfit, mood, or the occasion! And remember don't underestimate the power of good tools. Invest in quality makeup brushes and sponges for a smooth, streak-free application. Proper tools can make all the difference in achieving a professional finish.
The best skincare routine for oily skin

The best skincare routine for oily skin

by Jo Boyden on Aug 09 2024
If you have oily skin, you’ll know the struggle of managing shine and breakouts all too well. But having oily skin doesn't have to be a daily battle! With the right skincare routine, you can control excess oil, minimize the appearance of pores, and keep your skin looking fresh and balanced throughout the day! Whether you're dealing with midday shine, frequent blemishes or seasonal flare-ups, keep reading for the best skincare routine for oily skin so you can achieve a clear, matt and healthy complexion all year round. What is oily skin? Caused by genetics, dehydrated skin and overactive sebaceous glands producing excess sebum, oily skin is a common skin type that leaves you with a slick shine (or greasy appearance). People with oily skin often struggle with large pores too which can get easily clogged with sweat and oils, this is why oily skin has a tendency to breakout where pores are more prominent such as the cheeks and T-zone. The best skincare routine for oily skin Step 1: Start with a purifying cleanser As with any skin type, perfecting your skincare routine is paramount. First things first, prep your skin with a good cleanser formulated with ingredients that will help reduce excessive oil and prevent the plugging of pores that can lead to acne breakouts! Niacinamide is a game-changes for oily skin! It’s a versatile and powerhouse skincare ingredient that works to regulate excess sebum production and to possibly even lower your skin’s sebum excretion over time! Plus, niacinamide is also packed with antibacterial properties - all while keeping things gentle for your skin. We recommend: Naturys Purifying Mousse. Its beautifully light, ideal for daily cleansing and is formulated with the purifying properties of niacinamide to thoroughly, yet gently cleanse skin removing excess oil, dirt, grime and impurities. The result? Skin feels beautifully fresh and baby soft! How to use: Apply over the damp skin and massage gently into skin morning and night. Rinse with warm water. Step 2: Use a Hydrating serum Just as with any skin type, oily skin needs nourishment and serums are perfect for that because they are lightweight and easily absorbed. Just be sure to use a non-greasy serum! A purifying serum formulated with niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid will keep your skin well-hydrated while helping to balance your oil production too! We recommend: Naturys Deep Purifying Serum. Containing a purifying complex of niacinamide, bakuchiol, hyaluronic acid, peptides and vitamin c, this serum, specifically designed for oily skin is both nourishing and soothing. Enriched with olive oil microcapsules that melt when in contact with the skin, it helps correct overproduction of sebum, enlarged pores, acne and skin prone to redness. Crazy right? How to use: Apply a few drops to clean skin in the morning and evening, lightly massaging with circular movements to absorb the microcapsules. Step 3: Always apply moisturiser Now that you’ve applied your serum, it’s imperative you properly moisturise your skin too. One of the biggest misconceptions about oily skin is that it doesn’t need moisturiser. Contrary to popular belief moisturising does not make oily skin worse. Moisturising actually helps to regulate oil production! Often people who struggle with oily skin, don’t give their skin the nourishment it needs and in turn cause their skin to dehydrate, their skin then tries to compensate by producing too much oil! And there we have ourselves a vicious cycle. The key is to find a lightweight moisturiser specifically targeted to oily skin types that won’t clog pores or leave a greasy residue. We recommend: Naturys Face Cream Age-Purifying. It's anti-ageing and the ideal solution for oily skin! Formulated with bakuchiol, niacinamide and peptides it balances skin, keeps oil at bay, reduces enlarged pores, purifies the skin and battles imperfections! Oh and it reduces wrinkles and signs of ageing too! How to use: Use morning or evening all over your face and neck and décolleté, after thoroughly cleansing skin. Step 4: Don’t forget your sunscreen As a general rule of thumb, sunscreen should be the last product you apply. It's also important to ensure you allow the rest of your products to properly absorb before adding sunscreen on top. We recommend waiting a few minutes after you've applied your last skincare product. We know many sunscreens can feel greasy on the skin so clearly that’s the last thing you want to apply to your already oily face right? But I’m here to preach to you the importance of sunscreen for all skin types and that it’s, unfortunately, necessary to wear every. single. day come rain or shine. Just make sure if your skin is oily to look for lighter oil free sunscreens that won’t feel heavy on your skin. We recommend: Hubislab - Post Rays UV Protect Sun Block SPF50+ PA+++ Ideal for all skin types including oily skin, this high factor sunscreen provides complete UV and antioxidant protection while preventing dryness, dullness and hyperpigmentation. Rich in Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 and hydrolysed collagen it keeps skin nourished, healthy and elastic, while the invisible matte formula applies smoothly and stays on all day! How to use: Apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your face and neck every morning, even on cloudy days. Step 5: Once or twice a week exfoliate skin Oily skin responds well to physical exfoliation because when those dead skin cells are removed, oil is less likely to get trapped and therefore less likely to cause breakouts. Just make sure you avoid over-exfoliating as it can lead to redness and irritation. We recommend: Naturys Purifying Peeling AHA Solution. Formulated with Mandelic acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Tartaric acid and Lemon extract, this effective exfoliant solution promotes cell turnover and regenerates oily skin. Using this product regularly (once or twice a week), stimulates microcirculation and the physiological production of collagen and hyaluronic acid. How to use: Apply to skin, leave on for 10-12 minutes, massage gently and remove the product with warm water.   Additional step: Use a face mask If you have oily skin, we highly recommend that once a week, you use a treatment mask. Masks formulated with clay and charcoal are best for oily skin types as they naturally draw out impurities and absorb excess oil while calming any irritation, oh and they will ensure your skin feels 100 % refreshed a squeaky clean! Now that you’ve completed your skincare routine for oily skin, here’s a few tips when it comes to your makeup! Use a primer! You wont regret it. If you’re a lover of foundation but are a little over it sliding off your face as the day goes on, you need to introduce a primer into your life! A good primer can be a godsend for those with oily skin, not only because it helps makeup last longer but a good mattifying primer will also tackle areas of high shine, soften the appearance of fine lines and pores too! We recommend: ELES’s Pore Perfecting Face Primer. It's a light-textured, skin smoothing, oil-free primer that not only combats shine but absorbs oil and reduces the appearance of pores and wrinkles at the same time! The result – flawless looking foundation as soon as it’s applied, and it will stay put all day long too! How to use: Smooth over clean, moisturised skin. Apply mineral matte foundation If you are prone to oily skin, it’s best to steer clear of foundation with a dewy finish and instead opt for a matte, semi-matte powder or oil-free foundation. A handy powder compact should be the one staple in your beauty bag, that can come with you wherever you go for those times you need to do a little ‘touch up’. Just be sure to avoid illuminating powder with shimmer as this will only draw attention to skin texture and exacerbate pore size. Instead, opt for a translucent pore-minimising and oil-absorbent powder. Mineral makeup works wonders on oily skin because the particles tend to absorb moisture, preventing shine. We recommend: ELES Mineral Powder Foundation this best-selling foundation enables you to adjust your coverage from a translucent powder to a buildable coverage foundation with a richer, more opaque finish. What’s more, it’s formulated with skin loving ingredients including vitamins A & E, so it’ll provide antioxidant protection as well as condition skin! Oh and it will not clog your pores! How to use: Swirl a large powder brush onto powder and tap off excess. Apply over entire face in circular motions for best coverage. If power isn’t your thing and you’re a lover of liquid foundations but are concerned about slippage, fear not, weve got the foundation for you! We recommend: ELES Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation is ELES’s global best-seller for many a reason! One being its long-lasting staying power no matter what your skin condition. It’s packed with goodness including an exclusive multi mineral complex as well as vitamins A, C & E but its formula while it goes on as a silky liquid, sets to a soft powder finish, perfect for those with combination and oily skin. What’s more, it allows skin to breathe freely, so it won’t clog up those pores leading to unwanted blemishes! How to use: Apply directly onto moisturised skin or over a face primer. Using a foundation brush or problender sponge, sweep onto skin starting at the centre of the face and blending outward and down to the neck. Just remember consistency is key when it comes to managing your oily skin. Stick to your routine, and over time, you’ll notice a reduction in oiliness and breakouts! With the right products and a consistent routine, oily skin can be kept under control, giving you a clear, radiant complexion.
Skin in need of nourishment? These are the best products

Skin in need of nourishment? These are the best products

by Jo Boyden on Jul 26 2024
Feeling like your parched skin could do with a little extra love but not sure where to start? Whether your skin’s need for that boost of nourishment is due to stress, lack of sleep, or perhaps it’s the current cold weather that’s causing havoc with your complexion, we are here to help! Keep reading as we round up the best nourishing skincare products. 8 products that will turn your skin from dehydrated to gorgeously glowy in little to no time. Firstly though why are you currently dealing with a parched complexion? Your skin may be feeling particularly dry or dehydrated at the moment due to a combination of environmental, lifestyle, or health factors. Here are the most common causes: Environmental Factors Seasonal Changes: Cold weather and low humidity levels during winter can suck the life out of our already depleted complexion stripping moisture from our skin, leading to dryness. Indoor Heating: Having the heating pumping 24/7 (I know I’m guilty of this!) can reduce indoor humidity, further dehydrating our skin. Sun Exposure: Even in colder months, UV rays can damage our skin and deplete its moisture levels so make sure you are wearing your sunscreen daily! Lifestyle Factors Hydration: Let’s face it, many of us get a little lazy when it comes to rehydrating ourselves during the colder months but not drinking enough water can (and will!) lead to dehydrated skin. Diet: A diet lacking in essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants can impact our skin's ability to retain moisture so make sure you stock up on your leafy greens, berries and fatty fish. Hot Showers: Who doesn’t love a long hot shower in the morning (and evening!) when its cold outside but believe me when I say by doing so you will strip your skin of its natural oils, causing dryness. Lack of Sleep: Inadequate sleep can lead to a decrease in blood circulation, making the skin look pale and tired. During sleep, the skin repairs and regenerates, so lack of sleep can hinder this process. Stress: Chronic stress can lead to hormonal imbalances that affect the skin, potentially causing issues like acne, dryness, and dullness. Skincare Routine Harsh Cleansers: Using cleansers that contain alcohol or other harsh ingredients can strip your skin of its natural oils, so be vigilant about what you are putting on your skin! Lack of Moisturiser: Skipping moisturiser or using one that isn’t hydrating enough can leave your skin feeling dry. This is why we are here to help! Over-Exfoliation: Exfoliating too often can damage your skin's protective barrier, leading to moisture loss. Best to stick to exfoliating once or twice a week. Health Factors Age: Unfortunately as we age our skin not only reduces its production of collagen and elastin, but it also produces less oil too, making it more prone to dryness. Medical Conditions: Conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and hypothyroidism can cause dry skin. Medications: And if you happen to be taking certain medications right now (and that includes diuretics and acne treatments) they too can have drying effects on the skin. The best products to rejuvenate and nourish your dry and dehydrated skin Now for the products that can really help! CLEANSER: Pevonia Hydrating Cleanser Why it’s great: Everyone needs a good daily cleanser in their skincare collection and this cleanser is the one that keeps topping our favourites list year after year. How to use: Use it every morning and evening by applying a small quantity all over your face and neck and working with wet fingertips. Remove with a washcloth or a sponge wet with warm water and towel dry. Follow with Hydrating Lotion for optimal results! TONER: Pevonia Hydrating Toner Why it’s great: This nourishing toner beautifully balances skins pH while removing any residual impurities after cleansing. It also perfectly preps the skin for better absorption of that much needed serum and moisturiser to follow! Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice, and Vitamin E combine to hydrate and revive the skin. The ultimate skincare routine for sensitive skin

The ultimate skincare routine for sensitive skin

by Jo Boyden on Jul 04 2024
If you have sensitive skin, you’ll know how challenging it can be to find the right skincare products that actually work and don’t just exacerbate your already inflamed skin! Redness, irritation, and dryness can make it seem next to impossible to achieving that calm, radiant complexion you so wish for, but impossible it is not! With the right approach and gentle products, you can soothe your sensitive skin and maintain its overall health. Keep reading for our guide to the ultimate skincare routine for sensitive skin. A guide we’ve tailored just for you, featuring must-have products and tips to keep your sensitive skin happy and healthy. Firstly though, why are you suffering from sensitive skin? Unfortunately sensitive skin can be caused by a variety of factors. It might be due to genetics (thanks mum and dad!), making your skin more reactive to certain triggers. Environmental factors such as pollution, extreme weather conditions, and exposure to harsh chemicals can also contribute. Over exfoliated skin or simply overuse of skincare products, especially those with strong fragrances or alcohol, can strip the skin's natural barrier, leading to sensitivity. Stress and hormonal changes can also play a significant role, disrupting the skin's balance. Additionally, underlying skin conditions like eczema or rosacea can cause heightened sensitivity. It’s best to try and identify and avoid your triggers (along with using gentle skincare products) to help manage your sensitive skin. The best skincare routine for sensitive skin Step 1: Start with a Gentle Cleanser The first step in any skincare routine is cleansing, but for sensitive skin, it's crucial to use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser that doesn’t strip away natural oils. Opt for a fragrance-free, non-foaming cleanser with soothing and healing ingredients like aloe vera, glycerin, niacinamide and chamomile. Try: Naturys 2 in 1 Makeup Remover + Micellar Gel. Formulated with nasturtium and niacinamide, this natural 2-in-1 cleanser and makeup remover is good or all skin types but has been specifically targeted for sensitive skin. Gently but effectively it removes makeup, dirt and impurities from face and eyes without causing any irritation or dryness, leaving skin instantly fresh, soothed and more supple. How to Use: Use your fingertips to apply the cleanser and gently massage onto your face in circular motions. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry with soft towel to avoid further irritation. Step 2: Hydrating Oil Oils are like potent treatments that target specific concerns deeply nurturing the skin. For sensitive skin, choose an oil that focuses on hydration and calming effects. Try: Naturys Sensitive Hydra Oil. This quick-absorbing soothing face oil is particularly suitable for sensitive skin types and is the best ally against skin redness and irritation, signs of stress, pollution and blue light. Rich in plant-based active ingredients, including blueberry oil, bisabolol, and lycopene, it protects skin from environmental damage while diffusing redness and discomfort. How to Use: Apply a few drops to clean, dry or slightly damp face and neck, gently patting it into your skin until fully absorbed. Can be used alone or mixed with your moisturiser. Step 3: Moisturiser Moisturising is essential for locking in hydration and protecting your skin barrier. Choose a moisturiser that is free from fragrances, dyes, and other potential irritants and instead opt for nourishing, soothing ingredients that will hydrate, calm and improve skin. Try: Naturys De-Sensitive Cream. The perfect antidote for reactive and dehydrated skin prone to redness, this beautifully nourishing cream effectively calms skin while combatting redness. Copper Tripeptides also help promote collagen and elastin production, firming the skin and reducing fine lines while increasing oxygen supply for more supple skin. How to Use: Apply the moisturiser to your face and neck, gently massaging it in until fully absorbed. Step 4: Sunscreen Sunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine. But sadly sensitive skin is particularly vulnerable to sun damage so sunscreen is a must. Sensitive skin needs broad-spectrum protection without harsh chemicals. A mineral-based sunscreen is less likely to irritate and provides effective protection. Look for ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Try: Hubislab Post Rays UV Protect Sun Block SPF 50+++. Not only is it formulated with both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide so perfect for sensitive and ageing skin since zero irritation, it’s also rich in hydrolyzed Collagen and peptides keeping skin nourished, soft and supple! Its invisible matte formula also applies smoothly and stays on all day long! How to Use: Apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your face and neck every morning, even on cloudy days. Step 5: Weekly Treatment – Exfoliator A weekly treatment like an exfoliator can provide essential extra care for sensitive skin. And I know you might be thinking exfoliating sounds counterintuitive, after all you don’t want to exacerbate your already irritated skin, right? The thing is exfoliating is essential for everyone, no matter your skin type. Why? Because it removes dulling dead skin cells, prevents clogged pores and encourages cell turnover, you just have to be careful what sort of exfoliator you use! Try: Naturys Sensitive Enzymatic Peeling Cream. Formulated for all skin types including those suffering with common skin sensitivities, this exfoliant and regenerating cream gently removes dead cells and unclogs the pores without causing any irritation. As you work the cream into your skin, the pineapple and papaya enzymes, combined with AHAs and rice microgranules, gently but deeply exfoliate skin eliminating impurities, blackheads, dead cells, sebum and toxins. Your complexion after? Softer, smoother, calmer and brighter! How to Use: Apply the peel 1-2 times a week onto the face and delicately massage. Leave on for 5-7 minutes and rinse with warm water. Avoid the eye contours. Additional tips for sensitive skin Patch Test New Products: Always test new products on a small area of your skin before applying them to your entire face to ensure you don’t have an adverse reaction. Avoid Harsh Ingredients: Steer clear of products with alcohol, fragrances, and harsh exfoliants. Look for labels that indicate "hypoallergenic" and "non-comedogenic." Stay Hydrated and Maintain a Healthy Diet: Drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants can help support your skin's health. Remember taking care of sensitive skin doesn’t have to be daunting. By following this ultimate skincare routine and using gentle, effective products, you can reduce irritation, strengthen your skin barrier, and achieve a calm, radiant complexion. Remember consistency and patience are key!

Skincare essentials for your next flight

by Jo Boyden on Sep 22 2023
Whether you’re a frequent flyer or are about to set off on your next getaway since school holidays are nearly here, you’ll likely know that travelling can take a toll on your skin. Long flights, changing climates and recycled cabin air (eek) can leave your complexion looking dull and drab and your skin dehydrated. However if you arm yourself with the right skincare essentials in preparation for your next flight, you can save your skin and step off the plane looking as radiant as ever! Keep reading as we count down 6 skincare essentials that’ll keep your skin glowing even at 30,000 feet! Water Sure it might not be a skincare product as such but remember when it comes to looking after your skin on your next fight, the first and most crucial rule is to stay hydrated! Airplane cabins are notorious for their dry air which can sap the moisture from your skin like nothing else! So before you even board the plane make sure you’re well hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and continue to do so throughout the flight! Cleanser As soon as you get settled into your seat it’s a good idea to start your skincare routine to ensure your skin is clean and ready to absorb moisture! After all keeping your skin clean and fresh is essential, even when you’re on the move. Invest in a travel-sized cleanser that fits snugly into your in-flight toiletry bag. Choose a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type, whether it’s a cream, gel, or foam formula. Cleansing your face will remove impurities, excess oil, and makeup that can clog up skin on a long-haul flight! Try Pevonia CleanRefresh Foaming Oil Cleanser. Suitable for all skin types (but especially recommended for that dry, parched skin travelling can leave us with) this cleanser is an oil cleanser, that feels like gel and when mixed with water transforms into a beautiful foaming lather that in turn delivers a truly luxurious cleansing experience! It’s lipid rich, alcohol-free and soap free. What more could you want! Nourishing and cleansing in one. Can’t be bothered to get out of your seat, then try Phytomer's best selling Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion. No water needed! Simply apply this alcohol-free and infinitely gentle cleansing lotion with a cotton pad to remove the days makeup and grime and enjoy beautiful fresh, cleansed skin. Hydrating Serum Applying a hydrating serum to your skin after cleansing will make a huge difference. Serums are lightweight, nourishing and help lock in moisture so no more moistures being sapped from your skin thanks to the cabin air! We recommend Phytomer Hydra continue 22h moisture flash Gel. If you do a lot of flying, this should become your go-to to restore hydration in skin both before, during and after flights. This beautiful light textured gel is like giving your skin its own glass of water to keep hydrated and the results are also immediate. Multi-tasking moisturiser Moisturising is the secret to keeping your skin plump and radiant throughout the flight. You don’t want anything too rich, instead opt for a moisturiser in a lightweight formula that will both hydrate and brighten your skin. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides and vitamin c to replenish moisture and keep your skin looking visibly radiant too. We are loving Phytomer's Hydra Continue Radiance Energizing Cream. It’s a beautifully nourishing but lightweight cream with a velvety finish. The products name definitely reflects the results, as this subtly scented moisturiser is both energising and radiance inducing that’s for sure! From Dry to Dewy: The best skincare routine for Dry Skin

by Jo Boyden on Jul 20 2023
Whether you love or loathe cold, winter weather, there is no mistaking the havoc it can cause on our skin. Ever dealt with (or perhaps currently experiencing) dry, flaky patches? Tightness even? Or perhaps it’s a dull lacklustre complexion you have become accustomed too of late! Well, we are here to tell you how you can transform that dry skin of yours to deliciously dewy in next to no time. All you need to do is follow the right skincare routine for dry skin! And stick to it daily. Morning skincare routine for dry skinWhen it comes to the best skincare routine for dry skin, the products you use in the morning will differ from those you apply at night. First and foremost you want to make sure you build a skincare routine rich in moisture, you need to rehydrate that parched skin of yours, but you want to ensure you then keep it nourished and hydrated too!Step 1 - Hydrating CleanserThe first step in any skincare routine is cleansing, but for us dry-skin folks, it's essential to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser. Look for cleansers with a creamy or oil-based formula that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Harsh, foaming cleansers can be our arch-nemesis, so avoid those like the plague!Try Pevonia Hydrating Cleanser. Thanks to its outstanding combination of marine collagen, marine elastin, hyaluronic acid and glycerin, this nourishing, creamy textured cleanser thoroughly removes skin impurities and excess oil without any residue, all whilst helping to preserve your skin’s moisture too!N.B Exfoliation is essential too as you’ll want to rid your skin of any lingering dry, dead, skin cells to make way for the healthy, new cells patiently waiting underneath! How often you exfoliate will depend on the sensitivity of your skin though, so best to start with once a week and use a gentle exfoliating cleanser. This will keep skin brighter and balanced (without stripping away moisture) and will also assist in products such as your serum being able to fully penetrate your skin for optimal end results.Step 2 - Hyaluronic Acid SerumYou might we wondering if you really need a serum in your skincare routine because doesn’t your moisturiser offer enough nourishment? Well I’m here to tell you how necessary a serum really is! Serums are like a shot for the skin. Firstly they tend to perform above and beyond many regular skincare products, this is because they are developed with a higher concentration of targeted active ingredients. Secondly, the purpose of a serum is to target a specific concern. In our case dryness!Incorporate a hyaluronic acid serum into your morning skincare routine, and your skin will thank you for it! Believe me. Hyaluronic acid is a dry-skin superhero! This moisture-binding ingredient can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, leaving your skin feeling hydrated and plump.Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. The ultimate for seriously thirsty skin, this serum eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dehydrated of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. By adding moisture back into your skin, this serum immediately boosts skin’s suppleness and combats ageing in multiple ways thanks to its skin-plumping properties.Step 3 - Eye CreamIf you have dry skin, it's essential not to forget to incorporate an eye cream into your daily routine. The skin around the eye is some of the most delicate on the body, so it needs that little extra TLC that your moisturiser can not provide. In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage. While you might think your moisturiser will suffice, you’d be wrong! Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients to the skin, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia. A hydrating eye cream can help prevent dryness, nourish already present crepiness, and combat signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, undereye puffiness and dark circles! Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, vitamin c, shea butter, collagen and vitamin B as they will help restore the delicate skin and retain moisture.Try Pevonia Evolutive Eye Cream. This anti-ageing eye cream deeply nourishes and renews the delicate under eye area in multiple ways. Formulated with a powerful blend of anti-agers including hyaluronic acid, vitamin A and glycolic acid, it firms, smooths and hydrates dry, crepey skin.Step 4 - Nourishing MoisturiserA moisturiser not only infuses your skin with hydration but also helps trap in all of the products underneath it to make the ingredients even more effective. When it comes to dry skin, a super nourishing moisturiser rich in specific ingredients such as shea butter, ceramides, glycerin, natural oil (think avocado, jojoba, or rosehip) and hyaluronic acid is a must! It’ll help replenish your skin with the nourishment it craves.Try Phytomer Nutritionnelle Dry Skin Rescue Cream – this is a salvation for even the driest skin, bringing comfort, hydration and protection. Step 5 - SunscreenSunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine, regardless of skin type. Sun damage is the no. 1 cause of premature ageing so what’s the point of spending money on all those anti-ageing skincare products if you undo all the good by not being religious with your sunscreen application! Protecting your skin from sun damage will make all your other skin care products more effective!Choose a lightweight sunscreen that won't clog pores or cause breakouts. Go for a chemical or mineral sunscreen of at least SPF 30 (preferably 50). Sun damage can worsen dryness, so don't forget this crucial step, even on cloudy days.Try ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50+ It’s super lightweight and full of great ingredients that prevent hyper-pigmentation and dehydration. It also gives you a bit of glow which is a bonus that many sunscreens don’t provide.Step 6 - Facial MistFor that extra boost of cooling hydration and to lock in all those skincare ingredients throughout the day a facial mist is a must!Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist This product is a dream. It provides the perfect spritz to replenish tired, dry or tight skin. As well as Hyaluronic Acid, it’s formulated with a blend of ultra-calming Chamomile, Aloe, Green Tea and aromatic essential oils, making this powerhouse product ideal for all skin types, especially dehydrated, irritated, and ageing skin! However should your skin be on the sensitive side, a little itchy or irritated even, it will work its magic to calm, nurture and alleviate too. Night skincare routine for dry skin Step 1 - CleanserFirst thing you’ll likely want to do (and should do) after a long day is remove the days makeup and grime from your face with a good cleanser or face wash. Should you wish to double cleanse, you can do that too!Try using an oil cleanser first followed by a cream cleanser to refresh your skin and leave a dewy finish.Step 2 - Hydrating TonerFollow your face wash with a hydrating toner. Unfortunately, toners are often the forgotten skincare product, usually because people don’t understand their purpose, but they are in fact an essential product in any skincare routine! Why? Because a good toner will not only remove any excess makeup and grime that your cleanser might have missed but it will also prep your skin for the goodness that follows (we are talking ingredients in the rest of your skin care routine!) The best toner for dry skin will pump up hydration but also restore skin, balance pH too.Opt for an alcohol-free, hydrating toner that contains ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin to lock in moisture as well as plump up your skin. Pat it on gently with your hands or use a soft cotton pad.Try Pevonia Hydrating Toner – Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice, and Vitamin E, it works to hydrate, revive and fully refresh the skin. Great for anyone with worried about ageing, dehydration or devitalised skin. Step 3 – face mask With so many steps in your daily skincare routine, you might be wondering if masking is really another necessary step, after all, what more can this product do for your skin that your cleanser, toner, exfoliator, serum and moisturiser hasn’t already done? Well, the answer to that is a lot actually! Face masks are in fact an essential part of any skin care routine, and for very good reason. Not only do they help protect your skin from environmental pollutants and other irritants, but they also help to keep skin looking and feeling healthy. They are also a great way to give your skin a boost of nourishment and help to target any skin concerns you may have too., dry skin in this case!Treat yourself to a hydrating face mask once or twice a week. Sheet masks, gel masks and cream masks formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and jojoba oil can work wonders for dry skin. Sit back, relax, and let the mask work its magic!Try Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin Mask. This revitalizing and nourishing mask takes its inspiration from mesotherapy to visibly revitalize the skin. Its formula contains a cocktail of vitamins and hyaluronic acid that ensure beautifully nourished, plumped and radiant skin after every application.Step 4 – Brightening SerumAt night you can either opt for your hyaluronic acid serum again, or change it up with a good vitamin C serum. After all you want to brighten that dull complexion of yours as well and rehydrate it.Try Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe. This product is a-mazing for that perfect pick-me-up. Vitamin C and hydration hero hyaluronic acid, work together to quite literally drench skin with repairing antioxidants, deeply nourishing skin while correcting photo-damage. Not only does it have the most beautiful citrus aroma, when applied skin looks instantly brighter and dewier too!Step 5 - Night CreamWhile you might well love your everyday moisturiser, it’s likely it’s not providing enough nourishment for your skin at night. This is because at night, our skin goes into repair and regeneration mode so a richer night cream formulated with specific ingredients, can make all the difference. In fact, a good night cream will not only sooth and calm skin while you sleep, but also deliver lasting moisture while addressing common skin concerns such as moisture loss and skin ageing! They also help in the skin repair and renewal process by improving cell turnover!Try Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream. This beautifully rich textured cream literally cocoons skin while restoring youthful vitality with a nourishing blend of active marine botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids and conditioning oils.Step 6 - Face OilFor an extra boost of hydration, face oils are a game-changer. Apply a few drops of face oil specifically designed to combat dryness over your moisturiser to seal in moisture and goodness all night long. Not only will your skin drink it up, but you’ll also wake to a radiant, dewy complexion come morning!Try Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate – Fast-absorbing, this soothing, silky anti-oxidant oil radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning. Outstanding stuff! Consistency is key, so stick to this routine and say goodbye to dry, parched, patchy skin for good! Just remember though that skincare isn't just about what you put on your skin—it's also about what you put in your body. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and incorporating water-rich fruits and veggies into your diet.

Oily skin do’s and don’ts: Busting the Myths

by Jo Boyden on Apr 11 2023
If you’re fed up with your face feeling greasy every single day, you’re constantly looking for ways to prevent your makeup sliding off your skin by mid-morning, or you’re simply over staring in the mirror and seeing a super shiny complexion staring back (and not because you’ve been adopting the ‘hyper glowing skin’ trend of late), it’s time to get serious about your oily skin condition. When it comes to oily skin there are a number of dos and don’ts. Things you may be doing but shouldn’t! Or things you aren’t doing but should! Keep reading as we bust a number of oily skin myths and provide our top tips on how to manage your oily skin too!Firstly though, it’s good to understand oily skin and why you have it! Despite oily skin being a nuisance, believe it or not, it’s actually not all doom and gloom! Oily skin happens when the sebaceous glands in your skin make too much sebum. Sebum is the waxy, oily substance that protects and hydrates the skin (it’s actually a blessing as it’s vital for keeping the skin super healthy and youthful looking) however, too much sebum can lead to oily skin! This in turn results in your greasy, shiny complexion and can also result in clogged pores, and unwanted acne if not treated! Fear not thought, that’s why we are here to help! Myth #1Oily skin doesn’t need moisturiser, it’ll just make it oilier – WRONGOne of the biggest misconceptions about oily skin is that it doesn’t need moisturiser. Contrary to popular belief moisturising does not make oily skin worse. Oily skin, in fact, needs moisturiser just as much as any other skin type. Moisturising actually helps to regulate oil production and often people who struggle with oily skin can actually have dehydrated skin (skin doesn’t contain enough water) therefore their skin tries to compensate by producing too much oil! And there we have ourselves a vicious cycle. The key is to find a lightweight moisturiser specifically targeted to oily skin types that won’t clog pores or leave a greasy residue.Myth #2Washing your face multiple times a day will help control oil production – WRONGWashing your face too frequently can actually have the opposite effect on oily skin! Over-washing can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to increased oil production to compensate. Instead wash your face twice daily (morning and night) with a gentle, oil-free foaming cleanser to remove excess oil and grime. Myth #3Oily skin doesn’t need sunscreen – WRONGWe know many sunscreens can feel greasy on the skin so clearly that’s the last thing you want to apply to your already oily face right? But I’m here to preach to you the importance of sunscreen for all skin types and that it’s, unfortunately, necessary to wear every. single. day come rain or shine. Just make sure if your skin is oily to look for lighter oil free sunscreens that won’t feel heavy on your skin.Myth #4Using harsh products such as exfoliators daily will help control your oil production – WRONGUsing harsh products on oily skin can actually exacerbate the problem! Over exfoliating or just using harsh ingredients can strip the skin of its natural oils leading to increased oil production and potentially irritation too. Instead, opt for more gentle non-comedogenic products designed to help control an oily skin complexion. Now that we’ve busted some of the most common oily skin myths, let’s talk about some of the do’s and don’ts for managing it. DoWash your face with a gentle cleanser twice a day as mentioned earlier to remove any excess oil, grime and other impurities from your skin’s surface.Try Pevonia’s Phyto Gel Cleanser. This gorgeous non-drying product provides a delightful natural soft lather for deep cleansing. Saponaria, Rosemary, Lemon, and Pine, precisely blend to rid your skin of impurities and surface toxins and oils.Don’tWash your face more frequently than twice daily or use hot water as both can strip your skin of its natural oils and cause skin to produce even more oil to compensate.Do Use a lotion or toner after cleansing your skin as this will help remove any remaining oil as well as tighten pores.Try Phytomer Oligomarine Flawless Skin Tonic. Actually ideal for combination to oily skin types, this toner completes makeup removal and cleansing for really clear and clean skin. From the 1st application, the skin feels fresh, looks clear and is evenly toned. Day after day, excess oil dramatically reduces and pores are tightened. Oh, and your complexion will be more radiant too!Don’tUse heavy, oil-based moisturisers. While oily skin does still need moisturising just like any other skin type, rich moisturisers can clog pores and lead to breakouts.Do Moisturise your skin though! Simply use an oil-free lightweight moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated.Do Exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores which can help control oil production. Don’t Over-exfoliate! Once or twice weekly is sufficient. Over exfoliating skin can be detrimental and actually have some of the same signs as oily skin! From a shiny complexion to skin suddenly prone to breakouts. To find out whether your skin could be over-exfoliated click here.Don’t Use products with alcohol. Alcohol-based products can be very irritating and drying for oily skin. Your sebaceous glands will get the message that your skin is too dry and will work overtime to produce more sebum which equals even oilier skin!DoUse face masks that contain salicylic acid, beta-hydroxy acid, clays and ingredients with antibacterial properties. Our Pevonia Age Correction Micro-Pores Bio-Active Mask can be used once or twice a week as it pulls debris, blackheads and pore-cloggers from the skin. It's uniquely formulated to remove excess oil, control sebum production and help reveal an even-toned matte complexion.Don’tSkip sunscreen. ever. It’s important to protect your skin from the sun no matter what your skin type.DoUse oil-free or non comedogenic makeup to avoid clogging pores. Mineral makeup it best. These are the dos and don’ts for achieving healthy, glowing skin

by Jo Boyden on Mar 23 2023
We all strive for flawless perfect skin, that beautifully youthful and healthy complexion free of blemishes, dark spots and other signs of ageing, but achieving truly healthy skin requires us to pay consistent care and attention to our skin’s needs, and we aren’t just about our morning skincare routine. There are in fact a multitude of steps we should be taking to help our skin daily. Here are the dos and don’ts to keeping skin looking and feeling great day in and day out. DO cleanse skin every day Cleansing skin is a MUST. In fact, cleansing is the most important step in your skincare routine. Cleansing helps to remove excess oil, dirt and dead skin sitting on your skin’s surface which can contribute to the development of skin problems like spots if left! Daily cleansing also helps to balance your skin’s pH levels which can prevent dryness and irritation. Cleansing will also help enhance product absorption! This means those products such as your moisturiser and serum will be able to penetrate your skin much more effectively and provide maximum benefits! To learn more about the importance of cleansing and how a great cleanser will improve your skin tenfold click here. DO hydrate your skin morning and night Everything we do always takes hydration out of our skin. Wearing makeup, applying cleansers, sweating, drinking alcohol, and the sun! all take moisture out of our skin so it’s super important to not only drink water but to use hydrating products daily too! Make sure you invest in quality hydrating moisturisers, serums and cleansers that will replenish skin with moisture and not dry it out more! And for extra efficiency and penetration of active ingredients remember to moisturise while your skin is still damp after your shower. DO apply sunscreen every. single. day. All year round. It’s easy to think why bother with sunscreen on days when it's a little overcast or raining even, but as I’ve preached many a time before, sunscreen isn’t just a summertime skincare product when it’s hot and the sky is blue, the sun is always there and has the ability to penetrate through those clouds no matter how thick they are! It’s important to remember that wearing sunscreen is THE best protection against skin ageing. Oh, and if you are staying indoors, and happen to work next to a window like me, the sun has the ability to penetrate through the glass to your skin too!And then there is the issue of blue light damage. To read all about it click here. But in short, just like the sun, your devices omit harmful ‘blue light’ rays, so it’s important to wear sunscreen to protect skin against them too! DO exercise regularly Exercising regularly is not only important for your body and overall health and wellbeing, it can also improve the health of your skin. Exercise improves blood circulation and oxygenation to the skin, which in turn helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital. In addition to providing oxygen, blood flow also helps carry away waste products, including free radicals, from working skin cells. So in short regular exercise will keep your skin more supple and youthful in appearance it also imparts a healthy glow! DO eat a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains Fruits and veggies contain powerful antioxidants which help protect our skin from free radical damage (triggered by smoke, pollution etc). When free radicals overpower our skin they trigger oxidative stress which can impact our skin presenting in the form of fine lines, wrinkles, dull, uneven skin tone, dark spots and skin sagging – eek! So make sure you eat that rainbow of fruits and veggies each day and keep premature skin ageing away! DO try to get 8 hours of sleep a night We don’t call it ‘beauty sleep’ for nothing! When we sleep our skin repairs itself, producing collagen and the more collagen produced means skin is plumper and less likely to wrinkle! If we’re sleep-deprived, not only will we wake with dark under-eye circles and bags, but we are also more likely to experience skin irritation, dehydration, fine lines, and dare I say blemishes! Us adults need a minimum of 7 hours of restful slumber a night, 8 preferred! Just be sure you switch off any electronics an hour or so before a practice some relaxation techniques! DO drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day Water is essential for healthy skin. It flushes out toxins and helps maintain your skin’s elasticity (which keeps it looking younger!) Those who drink more water are less likely to suffer from premature ageing as those who drink little amounts of water daily!Drinking ample amounts of water also helps balance your skin’s oil and water content which in turn helps to prevent excess oil and sebum secretion (meaning fewer clogged pores and less chances of getting spots!)It’s important to remember though that our skin is the last of our organs to receive water and nutrients so plenty of it daily is a must! DO exfoliate your skin at least once a week even if it’s on the sensitive side Weekly exfoliation is a must to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. If the dead skin cells aren’t removed they can get trapped leading to clogged pores and unwanted spots. You might be afraid to exfoliate if your skin is on the sensitive side but that’s ok there are amazing sensitive skin exfoliators out there for you! You just need to steer clear of physical exfoliants and opt for gentle enzyme exfoliators that don’t contain granules. These earth-sourced ingredients essentially dissolve dead skin cells as opposed to physically scrubbing them off.For more on what to do when it comes to exfoliating sensitive skin click here. But DON’T over exfoliate your skin Over-exfoliating skin can strip it of natural oils and lead to dryness and irritation. To learn more about the impact of over-exfoliated skin click here. DON’T overload your skin with products From cleansers to exfoliators, serums, moisturisers, masks, oils and more, it is easy to get carried away with skincare and believe that buying and applying all the products will be best for your skin! The problem is overloading it, particularly when you are using too many actives in your products can actually be detrimental and result in dryness, irritation and redness! Instead, listen to your skin! The best approach is to understand your own individual needs rather than just adding layers of products because you are under the misconception that using them all will deliver optimum skin results!Remember if you are prone to sensitive skin simplicity is key, if you have an oily complexion cleansing, toning and a light mattifying moisturiser can be enough, and if your skin tends to be on the dry side, then a serum, moisturiser, mist and face oil to lock moisture in will be beneficial. Also, if you are adding in new steps to your skincare routine, do so one product at a time so that your skin has time to adjust. DON’T overdo your makeup Who doesn’t love wearing a bit of makeup, it can totally transform the way we look and feel after all, but overdoing it is a no no. Not because it might look OTT but because of the effect it can have on your skin. Depending on your skin type, excessive makeup can clog your pores leading to breakouts. Plus the chemicals in some makeup products can dry out your skin leaving it looking dull, dehydrated and depleted. A solution is to use healthy makeup formulations packed with skin loving ingredients like mineral makeup. DON’T use hot water when washing your face or taking a shower Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils and in turn cause excessive dryness. Instead, use lukewarm water. DON’T leave your makeup on when going to bed I’m sure we’ve ALL been guilty of going to bed with our makeup on once or even many a time! Especially when we are exhausted after the daily juggle, or perhaps have had one too many and ooh how that bed looks so inviting but removing the day's makeup and grime off your face is a must! In fact not cleansing before bed means your skin is unable to regenerate effectively while you sleep, so pores clog, blemishes become more apparent, and fatigue (ageing!) signs start to appear. DON’T drink too much alcohol Many of us might love a margarita with friends or that big glass of red of an evening but sadly excessive alcohol consumption can dehydrate your skin and contribute to wrinkles and other skin issues, so try and limit your weekly alcohol consumption. DON’T smoke Smoking can accelerate the ageing process! It can damage collagen and elastin in your skin which leads to the formation of wrinkles and other signs of ageing. DON’T stress too much Stress can lead to skin problems like acne and eczema so managing stress levels through relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga and deep breathing can be essential for skin health.

Combination skin vs oily skin: Which type is your skin?

by Jo Boyden on Dec 23 2022
With the weather warming up now summer is finally underway, you may well have noticed a change in your skin. Perhaps it’s looking and feeling a little more oily than usual, with dry areas even? Or maybe you’re experiencing a constant shiny complexion which let’s face it is far from desirable. Unfortunately with a rise in temperature and humidity, comes an increase in our skin’s sebum production (the oil secreted by the glands in the skin) so it’s then that we might all of a sudden self-diagnose our skin as oily, when in fact it might be a combination complexion you actually have? Many of us do find it hard to tell these two skin conditions apart, after all they do share certain similarities, but oily and combination skin are in fact two very different skin conditions and therefore need to be treated in different ways.So if you think you are one of many dealing with either oily or combination skin, we are here to tell you the difference between the two, and exactly which skin type it is you have. What is combination skin?If you have combination skin, you do indeed suffer from oily areas on your face, but this tends to be concentrated to your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) while your cheeks remain normal or dry. That said, your skin can also be oily and dry in different areas, or your might have noticed your pores are enlarged, or you’re experiencing some signs of sensitivity. With that said if you’ve noticed you have two or more skin issues occurring at the same time, it’s a sign you have combination skin. What is oily skin?On the other hand, oily skin is skin that is shiny (or greasy) all over the face, although those with oily skin may also notice a prominence along their T-zone, where they may be more prone to pimples. People with oily skin often struggle with large pores too which can get easily clogged with sweat and oils, this is why oily skin had a tendency to breakout where pores are more prominent such as the cheeks and T-zone. Another way to determine that you have an oily skin type is that shortly after cleansing, oil will return! After cleansing, oily skin will feel clean and oil-free, almost the only time it feels that way. Shortly after cleansing, oil will return. What are the best products for oily and combination skin?Want to know which products are best suited to your oily skin? Click here.Combination skin? With the ever-growing number of lotions and potions on the market from cleansers to toners, serums to oils, day to night creams and more, it’s no wonder there is confusion around which products are really necessary for our skin, let alone which order you should apply your skincare! Here’s the thing, we all have unique skin needs, dependant on our skin type and concern, so it’s important to create our own skincare ‘cocktail’ based on these specific needs! But if we use the wrong products (not everyone for example can tolerate AHA’s), pair two products together that are formulated with ingredients that don’t ‘gel’, or do not wear our skincare in the correct order, we just won’t see the results we are hoping for, or worse could wind up with blotchy, irritated skin instead. Eek.So to save time, stress and money! We have detailed below the exact order you should apply your skincare so you can get the most out of it! Along with what products and ingredients to use for your skin type and concern too! Cleanser Toner Serum Eye Cream Treatment (eg. Spot) Moisturiser Sunscreen (day) Face Oil (night) Step 1: CLEANSERCleansing daily is essential for skin health and the first step to layering skincare like a pro for optimum results. And despite conflicting views cleansing twice daily is imperative.Firstly, you need to cleanse at night to remove the days dirt, makeup and impurities. Then again in the morning to remove any excess oil and dead cells that are likely to have accumulated on your skin overnight. Without cleansing, your skin will be more prone to breakouts, dehydration, and premature aging. And remember you need a clean, oil and grime free face for all your skincare ingredients to properly absorb into your skin!At night opt for a cleansing oil that literally dissolves makeup (including waterproof!) without stripping your skin then follow with a gentle, creamy cleaner (which you should use in the morning too).
