Crow’s feet: How to improve its appearance

by Jo Boyden on Nov 03 2023
We’ve all heard of crow’s feet, many of us over the age of 40 have likely encountered them, but how do you reduce their appearance, or prevent them from forming in the first place? If you are on the lookout for natural ways to treat crow’s feet around your eyes, look no further! We've put together a list of top tips and natural remedies to help you treat your crow’s feet effectively, without the use of harsh products or invasive procedures (the idea of fillers terrifies me!) Keep reading as we reveal them all! Firstly what are crow’s feet? A common skincare concern, crow’s feet (otherwise known as expression lines) are fine lines and wrinkles that form on the outer corners of your eyes as you age. As the skin around our eyes is exceptionally delicate (and thin!) crow’s feet can start to form fairly early for some due to constant muscle use in this area, as well as a gradual reduction in skin's elasticity. What causes crow’s feet?Crow’s feet are caused by a combination of factors, including ageing (due to a decrease in skin's collagen and elastin production), sun exposure, and repetitive facial expressions. Diet and your genetics can also be contributing factors. How do you get rid of crow’s feet? While it’s impossible to stop your eyes from ageing, there are a number of natural ways to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and maintain a more youthful looking eye area. Here’s how; Hydration is key As we age the skin around our eyes becomes dryer, thinner and loses its elasticity which leads to fine lines and wrinkles! And unfortunately the dryer this delicate area, the more visible those unwanted wrinkles are!Keeping your delicate eye area well-hydrated can help plump up the skin and minimize the appearance of fine lines. Use a hydrating eye cream or serum specifically formulated to target fine lines and crow's feet.Try Pevonia Age Correction Eye Contour. This power repair eye contour gives tired, ageing eyes the burst of hydration they need! Deeply nourishing thanks to its combination of marine collagen and marine elastin hyaluronic acid, it targets signs of fatigue, visibly reducing puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles. What more could you want?“Reduces wrinkles and firms eyelids. It’s also cool and soothing to eye area. No oily film to interfere with applying eye makeup. Have seen reduction in fine lines in crow’s feet area.” Laura L Exfoliate Shedding dead skin and revealing a younger, healthier layer of skin beneath helps reduce the appearance of crow's feet, fine lines, and surface wrinkles. Stronger forms of AHAs may also help boost your skin's collagen production, thereby providing additional crow's feet treatment. Get enough sleep. When you don't get enough sleep, your skin can become dull and wrinkled and wrinkles around your eyes can become increasingly more obvious. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep minimum each night. Apply cucumbers over your eyes I’ve talked about this before and for good reason. Cucumber slices are known for their cooling and soothing properties. Place chilled cucumber slices over your eyes for 10-15 minutes to reduce puffiness and refresh the delicate skin around your eyes. Apply Green tea bags as an eye compress Green tea isn't just for drinking; it's also a potent antioxidant that can work wonders topically for your skin. Brew some green tea, let it cool, then soak a clean cloth in the tea and gently place it over your closed eyes for 15 minutes. The antioxidants in green tea can help reduce inflammation and promote smoother, firmer skin. Apply chamomile tea bags for soothing relief And finally as with green tea bags, chamomile tea bags can really help the eye area when applied topically. Chamomile is renowned for its calming and anti-inflammatory properties. Simply place two chamomile tea bags in hot water, let them cool, then place them over your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes. This can help reduce puffiness and inflammation, giving your eyes a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. Manage stress Stress can also contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as exercise, yoga, or meditation. How do you prevent crow's feet from forming in the first place? There are several lifestyle choices you can make to help fight the formation of crow’s feet. Wear sunglasses The delicate skin around our eyes is particularly susceptible to UV damage as it is thinner and more prone to wrinkling. By wearing sunglasses daily, you create a shield against the sun's harmful UV rays, protecting this sensitive area from sun exposure and thereby reducing the risk of developing crow's feet.Wearing sunglasses can also help to reduce squinting, one of the main contributors to crow's feet. Apply sunscreen every. single. day Wearing sunglasses isn’t the only thing to help shield your delicate eye area from sun damage. Actually wearing sunscreen daily is imperative too!The sun is hands down the no. 1 cause of premature ageing and therefore crow’s feet, and by wearing sunscreen religiously you can help prevent it! Go gentle on the delicate eye area Treat your eye area with the utmost care. Avoid harsh rubbing or tugging as this can damage your delicate eye area causing the tissue around your eyes to thin, making it more fragile and therefore be more susceptible to wrinkles. Practice eye exercises Performing simple eye exercises such as gentle massage can help improve blood circulation and reduce tension around the eyes potentially minimizing wrinkle formation. Incorporate retinol into your daily skincare routine Incorporating a retinol-based eye cream into your skincare routine can work wonders for your skin. Retinol helps boost collagen production and encourages cell turnover, leading to firmer, more youthful-looking skin. Drink plenty of water every single day Say no more. Water is life. We all know drinking plenty of water has an outstanding effect onour skin's health, so drink, drink, drink! Apply eye masks Treat yourself to some nourishing eye masks infused with hydrating and collagen-boosting ingredients. These can provide an instant plumping and brightening effect, giving your under-eye area a refreshed appearance. Eat a healthy diet If you’re looking for a simple solution for how to prevent crow’s feet, try to eat more of the following foods. Fish rich in omega-3s essential fatty acids such as salmon Avocados Nuts and seeds Extra virgin olive oil Berries Green leafy vegetables Foods high in antioxidants can help fight free radicals and pollution that contribute to lines and wrinkles. Avoid smoking Smoking it’s just bad for your health, it can seriously affect your skin's appearance too! This is because smoking can accelerate the ageing process quite significantly and contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Get yourself some reading glasses as soon as you need them! As we age, our vision can become impaired which causes us to squint, especially when we are trying to read or scroll through at our devices. Squinting is actually one of the main causes of crow’s feet, eek, so if you notice your eye sight deteriorating slightly go get your eyes tested immediately.Just remember, while crow's feet are a natural part of the aging process, taking care of your skin and following these tips can help minimize their appearance and promote a more youthful, radiant eye area.
Skincare travel essentials

Skincare essentials for your next flight

by Jo Boyden on Sep 22 2023
Whether you’re a frequent flyer or are about to set off on your next getaway since school holidays are nearly here, you’ll likely know that travelling can take a toll on your skin. Long flights, changing climates and recycled cabin air (eek) can leave your complexion looking dull and drab and your skin dehydrated. However if you arm yourself with the right skincare essentials in preparation for your next flight, you can save your skin and step off the plane looking as radiant as ever! Keep reading as we count down 6 skincare essentials that’ll keep your skin glowing even at 30,000 feet! Water Sure it might not be a skincare product as such but remember when it comes to looking after your skin on your next fight, the first and most crucial rule is to stay hydrated! Airplane cabins are notorious for their dry air which can sap the moisture from your skin like nothing else! So before you even board the plane make sure you’re well hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and continue to do so throughout the flight! Cleanser As soon as you get settled into your seat it’s a good idea to start your skincare routine to ensure your skin is clean and ready to absorb moisture! After all keeping your skin clean and fresh is essential, even when you’re on the move. Invest in a travel-sized cleanser that fits snugly into your in-flight toiletry bag. Choose a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type, whether it’s a cream, gel, or foam formula. Cleansing your face will remove impurities, excess oil, and makeup that can clog up skin on a long-haul flight! Try Pevonia CleanRefresh Foaming Oil Cleanser. Suitable for all skin types (but especially recommended for that dry, parched skin travelling can leave us with) this cleanser is an oil cleanser, that feels like gel and when mixed with water transforms into a beautiful foaming lather that in turn delivers a truly luxurious cleansing experience! It’s lipid rich, alcohol-free and soap free. What more could you want! Nourishing and cleansing in one. Can’t be bothered to get out of your seat, then try Phytomer's best selling Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion. No water needed! Simply apply this alcohol-free and infinitely gentle cleansing lotion with a cotton pad to remove the days makeup and grime and enjoy beautiful fresh, cleansed skin. If your favourite cleanser doesn’t come in travel size, you could try decanting it, or why not opt for a travel friendly kit instead? We are loving Pevonia’s range of travel friendly skincare kits. Hydrating Serum Applying a hydrating serum to your skin after cleansing will make a huge difference. Serums are lightweight, nourishing and help lock in moisture so no more moistures being sapped from your skin thanks to the cabin air! We recommend Phytomer Hydra continue 22h moisture flash Gel. If you do a lot of flying, this should become your go-to to restore hydration in skin both before, during and after flights. This beautiful light textured gel is like giving your skin its own glass of water to keep hydrated and the results are also immediate. Multi-tasking moisturiser Moisturising is the secret to keeping your skin plump and radiant throughout the flight. You don’t want anything too rich, instead opt for a moisturiser in a lightweight formula that will both hydrate and brighten your skin. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides and vitamin c to replenish moisture and keep your skin looking visibly radiant too. We are loving Phytomer's Hydra Continue Radiance Energizing Cream. It’s a beautifully nourishing but lightweight cream with a velvety finish. The products name definitely reflects the results, as this subtly scented moisturiser is both energising and radiance inducing that’s for sure! Facial mist On a long-haul flight believe me when I say a facial mist will become your new best friend. They are the perfect product (and travel companion!) to give your complexion a quick boost, replenishing tired, dry or tight skin within seconds, any time of day! We can’t get enough of Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid HydraMist. As well as Hyaluronic Acid, it’s formulated with a blend of ultra-calming Chamomile, Aloe, Green Tea and aromatic essential oils, making this powerhouse product ideal for all skin types, especially dehydrated, irritated, and ageing skin! Sheet Masks Perfect for travel, sheet masks are a great way to provide your skin with a big boost of hydration, nourishment and other skincare benefits, plus they are so quick and easy to use (unlike most cream masks). We love ELES Sheet Masks. You can choose from a calming and soothing sheet mask, a hydrating and brightening sheet mask or if you are worried about ageing try the youth recovery sheet mask. You’ll love the way your skin laps up the moisture from the mask and leaves if feeling cool, calm, deeply nourished and visibly refreshed. Not familiar with sheet masks? under eye crepiness

Top tips to improve under eye crepiness

by Jo Boyden on Sep 01 2023
If like me, you’re in your 40’s (or older), you may have fallen victim to under eye crepiness – that undesirable loose, wrinkled skin that can make you look tired, but also older than you actually are! This is because as we age the collagen and elastin levels in our skin starts to decline, as it does the delicate skin around our eyes (one of the first and most prevalent areas to show premature ageing) becomes dryer and thinner, and well crepey! Luckily all is not lost though! There are a number of steps you can take to improve its appearance, and we aren’t talking chemical peels, dermal fillers, laser and Botox, no siree, we are all about natural, non-intrusive alternatives. Keep reading as we reveal them all!Firstly though, why might you be more susceptible to under eye crepiness? The most common cause of fine lines, wrinkles and crepey skin under your eyes is unfortunately ageing, which can of course be influenced by genetics (thank you Mum and Dad!) But other common contributing factors which may be possible to avoid include;UV radiation – exposure to UV rays accelerates the breakdown of collagen leading to premature ageing, this is why it’s essential to protect our peepers! If you don’t wear sunnies every single day like you do your sunscreen, you should now!Smoking – smoking exposures your skin to extra oxidative stress, in turn damaging its collagen and elastin. Smoking also constricts the blood vessels under your eyes by blocking circulation to your blood vessels and depriving your skin of necessary vitamin A.Environmental factors - environmental factors, such as dry weather, wind, and pollution can all contribute to undereye ageing.Pulling repetitive expressions – well I’m definitely guilty of this! Facial expressions, like smiling, frowning, and furrowing your brow, can cause fine lines to develop prematurely around your delicate eye area. Eek!Even the way we sleep can have a negative impact on our eyes! What you might say? Yup, if you sleep with your face buried in your pillow (guilty as charged) you are likely to be more prone to premature fine lines, wrinkles and eye crepiness, than those that don’t! Aghhh. How can you improve undereye crepiness?Although crepey skin will not disappear overnight, it can be drastically improved with time, the right anti-aging products, as well as lifestyle changes. It can take weeks or even months to see results, but by following these top 10 tips you can bid adieu to that saggy, sullen, crepey skin under your eyes. Stay hydrated. All. The. Time. Yes, you’ve heard it a million times before, drink all the water. Hydration is key my friends. Make sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day (we’re talking 8 glasses minimum). When you drink water, it’s like giving your skin a drink from the inside out too (and that water has to nourish all your other vital organise too! Treat sunscreen like is your BFF Never underestimate the power of sunscreen. Those harmful UV rays are a major contributor to premature aging. So, slather on that sunscreen every morning, even on cloudy days. Your future self will thank you!Not a huge fan of sunscreen? We get it. Soo many sunscreens feel greasy, don’t smell great or simply don’t sit well on our skin, and then there are those thick white sunscreens that look like a paste when applied too! That’s why we love the ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection SPF 50. It’s not greasy but instead silky soft, the scent isn’t unpleasant, and it applies beautifully to my skin. And thanks to its formulation its helps nourish and restore skins luminosity too, not to mention it’s high SPF of 50! Invest in an eye cream rich in hyaluronic acid and use it day and night Investing in a good quality eye cream that's packed with hydrating and skin-loving ingredients including hyaluronic acid and peptides will do wonders for ageing eyes. Gently pat the product around your eyes morning and night for that extra boost of moisture and optimal results. For more on the benefits of using hyaluronic acid under your eyes and our 3 favourite eye treatments click here. Add a gemstone facial roller to your daily beauty routine The roller will, not only help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, when used correctly, it can dramatically reduce puffiness by moving excess fluid around your eyes towards your lymph nodes where it filters out the toxins too. Cool right? To find out more about the facial rollers and how to use them click here. Introduce tea time for your eyes Tea isn’t just for drinking you know, it’s also good for soothing your eyes too! Try placing cold tea bags (caffeine free, herbal tea is best!) on your closed eyes for a few minutes. The tannins in tea can help tighten the skin and reduce puffiness too! Consider practicing eye massage Light massage with your ring finger can improve bloody circulation and actually help your skin appear smoother. Remember gentle, gentle though as applying too much pressure to already thin, delicate skin can have the adverse effect! Give your eyes a rest from screen time Increased time in front of your laptop and on your phone can reap havoc with your precious peepers. In fact, spending just two consecutive hours on a digital device can cause eyestrain or fatigue while overexposure to blue light also suppresses the release of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep, therefore disrupting our normal sleep pattern. And we all know poor sleep can lead to premature ageing, especially around the delicate eye area! Make healthy lifestyle choices Your overall health reflects on your skin, including the delicate eye area. Eat a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids. And if you're a smoker, consider kicking the habit – smoking accelerates skin aging like nobody's business. Using gentle cleansing is a must Be kind to your skin when you cleanse but also never skip on cleansing, it’s a must, just be sure to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser that doesn't strip away your skin's natural oils. Harsh cleansers can contribute to dryness and crepiness. Try Medicalia’s Gentle Cleanser. Introduce cold compress magic Incorporate cold compresses into your routine. Applying a cold, damp cloth or chilled spoons over your eyes for a few minutes can help reduce puffiness and refresh your skin. Keep skin hydrated Invest in a good hydrating mist. A quick spritz throughout the day can give your skin the moisture it craves, helping to minimize crepiness. We love Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist. It’s one of my all time favourites. Make sure you get enough Zzzz’s Beauty sleep is real people! After all it’s not dubbed beauty sleep for nothing! Make sure you're getting enough restful sleep each night. Elevate your head slightly with an extra pillow to prevent fluid from pooling around your eyes, which can lead to puffiness and crepiness. Upgrade your pillow case If you are one for sleeping with your face in the pillow, you might want to consider switching up your cotton pillowcase to a silk or satin alternative instead.Silk has natural moisturising properties to retain moisture around the eyes. The dense weave of the silky-smooth fibres also keep moisture close to your skin, this extra moisture can help to reduce dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles.Just remember, Rome wasn’t built in day, and your under-eye skin won’t transform overnight either sadly (if only!) Be patient and be religious with these steps and you’ll be waking up to smoother, brighter and younger looking eyes soon!
dry to dewy skin

From Dry to Dewy: The best skincare routine for Dry Skin

by Jo Boyden on Jul 20 2023
Whether you love or loathe cold, winter weather, there is no mistaking the havoc it can cause on our skin. Ever dealt with (or perhaps currently experiencing) dry, flaky patches? Tightness even? Or perhaps it’s a dull lacklustre complexion you have become accustomed too of late! Well, we are here to tell you how you can transform that dry skin of yours to deliciously dewy in next to no time. All you need to do is follow the right skincare routine for dry skin! And stick to it daily. Morning skincare routine for dry skinWhen it comes to the best skincare routine for dry skin, the products you use in the morning will differ from those you apply at night. First and foremost you want to make sure you build a skincare routine rich in moisture, you need to rehydrate that parched skin of yours, but you want to ensure you then keep it nourished and hydrated too!Step 1 - Hydrating CleanserThe first step in any skincare routine is cleansing, but for us dry-skin folks, it's essential to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser. Look for cleansers with a creamy or oil-based formula that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Harsh, foaming cleansers can be our arch-nemesis, so avoid those like the plague!Try Pevonia Hydrating Cleanser. Thanks to its outstanding combination of marine collagen, marine elastin, hyaluronic acid and glycerin, this nourishing, creamy textured cleanser thoroughly removes skin impurities and excess oil without any residue, all whilst helping to preserve your skin’s moisture too!N.B Exfoliation is essential too as you’ll want to rid your skin of any lingering dry, dead, skin cells to make way for the healthy, new cells patiently waiting underneath! How often you exfoliate will depend on the sensitivity of your skin though, so best to start with once a week and use a gentle exfoliating cleanser. This will keep skin brighter and balanced (without stripping away moisture) and will also assist in products such as your serum being able to fully penetrate your skin for optimal end results.Step 2 - Hyaluronic Acid SerumYou might we wondering if you really need a serum in your skincare routine because doesn’t your moisturiser offer enough nourishment? Well I’m here to tell you how necessary a serum really is! Serums are like a shot for the skin. Firstly they tend to perform above and beyond many regular skincare products, this is because they are developed with a higher concentration of targeted active ingredients. Secondly, the purpose of a serum is to target a specific concern. In our case dryness!Incorporate a hyaluronic acid serum into your morning skincare routine, and your skin will thank you for it! Believe me. Hyaluronic acid is a dry-skin superhero! This moisture-binding ingredient can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, leaving your skin feeling hydrated and plump.Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. The ultimate for seriously thirsty skin, this serum eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dehydrated of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. By adding moisture back into your skin, this serum immediately boosts skin’s suppleness and combats ageing in multiple ways thanks to its skin-plumping properties.Step 3 - Eye CreamIf you have dry skin, it's essential not to forget to incorporate an eye cream into your daily routine. The skin around the eye is some of the most delicate on the body, so it needs that little extra TLC that your moisturiser can not provide. In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage. While you might think your moisturiser will suffice, you’d be wrong! Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients to the skin, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia. A hydrating eye cream can help prevent dryness, nourish already present crepiness, and combat signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, undereye puffiness and dark circles! Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, vitamin c, shea butter, collagen and vitamin B as they will help restore the delicate skin and retain moisture.Try Pevonia Evolutive Eye Cream. This anti-ageing eye cream deeply nourishes and renews the delicate under eye area in multiple ways. Formulated with a powerful blend of anti-agers including hyaluronic acid, vitamin A and glycolic acid, it firms, smooths and hydrates dry, crepey skin.Step 4 - Nourishing MoisturiserA moisturiser not only infuses your skin with hydration but also helps trap in all of the products underneath it to make the ingredients even more effective. When it comes to dry skin, a super nourishing moisturiser rich in specific ingredients such as shea butter, ceramides, glycerin, natural oil (think avocado, jojoba, or rosehip) and hyaluronic acid is a must! It’ll help replenish your skin with the nourishment it craves.Try Phytomer Nutritionnelle Dry Skin Rescue Cream – this is a salvation for even the driest skin, bringing comfort, hydration and protection. Step 5 - SunscreenSunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine, regardless of skin type. Sun damage is the no. 1 cause of premature ageing so what’s the point of spending money on all those anti-ageing skincare products if you undo all the good by not being religious with your sunscreen application! Protecting your skin from sun damage will make all your other skin care products more effective!Choose a lightweight sunscreen that won't clog pores or cause breakouts. Go for a chemical or mineral sunscreen of at least SPF 30 (preferably 50). Sun damage can worsen dryness, so don't forget this crucial step, even on cloudy days.Try ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50+ It’s super lightweight and full of great ingredients that prevent hyper-pigmentation and dehydration. It also gives you a bit of glow which is a bonus that many sunscreens don’t provide.Step 6 - Facial MistFor that extra boost of cooling hydration and to lock in all those skincare ingredients throughout the day a facial mist is a must!Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist This product is a dream. It provides the perfect spritz to replenish tired, dry or tight skin. As well as Hyaluronic Acid, it’s formulated with a blend of ultra-calming Chamomile, Aloe, Green Tea and aromatic essential oils, making this powerhouse product ideal for all skin types, especially dehydrated, irritated, and ageing skin! However should your skin be on the sensitive side, a little itchy or irritated even, it will work its magic to calm, nurture and alleviate too. Night skincare routine for dry skin Step 1 - CleanserFirst thing you’ll likely want to do (and should do) after a long day is remove the days makeup and grime from your face with a good cleanser or face wash. Should you wish to double cleanse, you can do that too!Try using an oil cleanser first followed by a cream cleanser to refresh your skin and leave a dewy finish.Step 2 - Hydrating TonerFollow your face wash with a hydrating toner. Unfortunately, toners are often the forgotten skincare product, usually because people don’t understand their purpose, but they are in fact an essential product in any skincare routine! Why? Because a good toner will not only remove any excess makeup and grime that your cleanser might have missed but it will also prep your skin for the goodness that follows (we are talking ingredients in the rest of your skin care routine!) The best toner for dry skin will pump up hydration but also restore skin, balance pH too.Opt for an alcohol-free, hydrating toner that contains ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin to lock in moisture as well as plump up your skin. Pat it on gently with your hands or use a soft cotton pad.Try Pevonia Hydrating Toner – Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice, and Vitamin E, it works to hydrate, revive and fully refresh the skin. Great for anyone with worried about ageing, dehydration or devitalised skin. Step 3 – face mask With so many steps in your daily skincare routine, you might be wondering if masking is really another necessary step, after all, what more can this product do for your skin that your cleanser, toner, exfoliator, serum and moisturiser hasn’t already done? Well, the answer to that is a lot actually! Face masks are in fact an essential part of any skin care routine, and for very good reason. Not only do they help protect your skin from environmental pollutants and other irritants, but they also help to keep skin looking and feeling healthy. They are also a great way to give your skin a boost of nourishment and help to target any skin concerns you may have too., dry skin in this case!Treat yourself to a hydrating face mask once or twice a week. Sheet masks, gel masks and cream masks formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and jojoba oil can work wonders for dry skin. Sit back, relax, and let the mask work its magic!Try Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin Mask. This revitalizing and nourishing mask takes its inspiration from mesotherapy to visibly revitalize the skin. Its formula contains a cocktail of vitamins and hyaluronic acid that ensure beautifully nourished, plumped and radiant skin after every application.Step 4 – Brightening SerumAt night you can either opt for your hyaluronic acid serum again, or change it up with a good vitamin C serum. After all you want to brighten that dull complexion of yours as well and rehydrate it.Try Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe. This product is a-mazing for that perfect pick-me-up. Vitamin C and hydration hero hyaluronic acid, work together to quite literally drench skin with repairing antioxidants, deeply nourishing skin while correcting photo-damage. Not only does it have the most beautiful citrus aroma, when applied skin looks instantly brighter and dewier too!Step 5 - Night CreamWhile you might well love your everyday moisturiser, it’s likely it’s not providing enough nourishment for your skin at night. This is because at night, our skin goes into repair and regeneration mode so a richer night cream formulated with specific ingredients, can make all the difference. In fact, a good night cream will not only sooth and calm skin while you sleep, but also deliver lasting moisture while addressing common skin concerns such as moisture loss and skin ageing! They also help in the skin repair and renewal process by improving cell turnover!Try Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream. This beautifully rich textured cream literally cocoons skin while restoring youthful vitality with a nourishing blend of active marine botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids and conditioning oils.Step 6 - Face OilFor an extra boost of hydration, face oils are a game-changer. Apply a few drops of face oil specifically designed to combat dryness over your moisturiser to seal in moisture and goodness all night long. Not only will your skin drink it up, but you’ll also wake to a radiant, dewy complexion come morning!Try Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate – Fast-absorbing, this soothing, silky anti-oxidant oil radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning. Outstanding stuff! Consistency is key, so stick to this routine and say goodbye to dry, parched, patchy skin for good! Just remember though that skincare isn't just about what you put on your skin—it's also about what you put in your body. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and incorporating water-rich fruits and veggies into your diet.
Hyaluronic Acid for the under eye

6 reasons why you should use hyaluronic acid under your eyes

by Jo Boyden on Mar 15 2023
We are taught from an early age to look after our skin - to cleanse every evening and apply moisturiser to keep skin supple and nourished day and night. But more often than not, our eyes get forgotten. The irony is the skin around our eyes is the most delicate on our face and the first to show signs of ageing. Eye ageing starts in the form of fatigue, we’re talking dark, sullen skin or under eye puffy circles, then the fine lines and wrinkles start to form, all of which could be dramatically reduced if we were to look after our eyes from any early age. Prevention is key as they say! But also, it’s never too late to show those peepers of yours some TLC and the best way to do this is to use a nourishing eye cream rich in hydrating and anti-ageing ingredient hyaluronic acid! Keep reading to learn why using a hyaluronic acid eye cream or serum in your daily skin care routine is a must! Using a hyaluronic acid eye cream will make a noticeable impact on your eyes delicate skin’s moisture levels Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant, meaning it attracts and retains moisture in the skin, this is essential for keeping the skin around the eyes hydrated and supple. Using an eye cream formulated with hyaluronic acid will reduce fine lines and wrinkles As we age the skin around our eyes becomes dryer, thinner and loses its elasticity which leads to fine lines and wrinkles! And unfortunately the dryer this delicate area, the more visible those unwanted wrinkles are! Hyaluronic acid eye creams not only help prevent this from happening, but they also help to plump up the skin reducing the appearance of the already existing fine lines and wrinkles. Applying hyaluronic acid under your eyes can help soothe and calm irritated skin The delicate area surrounding your eyes can be easily irritated and in turn become inflamed. Hyaluronic acid has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe and calm the skin, reducing puffiness and redness around the eyes. Hyaluronic acid eye creams can brighten and even skin tone Dark circles and uneven skin tone around the eyes can be caused by dehydration and sun damage. This is turn can make eyes look dull and tired. Hyaluronic acid eye creams especially when they are formulated with vitamin C, can effectively help to brighten and even out the skin tone by hydrating the skin and promoting cell turnover. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful antioxidant which can protect your peepers In addition to its hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties, hyaluronic acid is also a powerful antioxidant which can help to protect the skin from damage caused by environmental stressors such as UV rays and pollution. Using a cream rich in hyaluronic acid can help prevent premature eye ageing As I mentioned earlier prevention is key when it comes to premature ageing. By being proactive and using a hyaluronic acid eye cream will improve skins elasticity no end and prevent premature wrinkles from even forming!Overall, using a hyaluronic acid eye cream or serum can help to keep the delicate skin under your eyes hydrated, plump and youthful looking. However, when using hyaluronic acid under the eyes, it’s important to choose a product that is specifically formulated for this area of the face as some products may be too heavy. Look for lightweight serums or eye creams that contain hyaluronic acid and apply them gently using your fingertip. Some of our favourite, and our bestselling eye creams formulated with hyaluronic acid include; Vie Collection Chrono Eyes Puffiness – Dark Circles Wrinkle CreamThis outstanding eye cream draws its inspiration from the eye rejuvenating hyaluronic acid injections carried out in aesthetic doctors practices! Make sure to use an eye cream that contains vitamin c for skin brightening, fatty acids and peptides, which help stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.Try: Vie Collection Chrono Eyes Puffiness Dark Circles Wrinkles Cream. This beautifully fine cream deeply nourishes the eye area while reversing puffiness, dark circles, and wrinkles! Seriously! it gives immediate gratification thanks to a pearlescent finish that instantly brightens the eye area, and it has definitely calmed my puffiness, lightened my dark circles, and even smoothed my wrinkles! I’m testament to that!Invest in a gemstone facial rollerAnd thank me later! By introducing this little gem (pardon the pun!) into your morning beauty routine, you’ll calm any fluid build-up around your eye area (which unfortunately increases with age). As well as their many medicinal benefits gemstone rollers can dramatically reduce puffiness by removing excess fluid around the eyes towards your lymph nodes where it filters out toxins! So clever! To find out more about gemstone rollers and their multitude of benefits click here.Use good undereye concealerLet’s face it, undereye circles can age you! While you’ll eye cream can improve the appearance greatly, a good undereye concealer can work it’s magic by totally covering them! Firstly though you’ll want to prime your skin first. This will help fill in any lines and make the skin appear smoother (essential if you want to prevent makeup falling into the creases and exacerbating signs of eye ageing!) Use your ring finger and gently dab your primer over the wrinkles to the sides of your eyes and spread. Now it’s time for your concealer. A good undereye concealer can give you complete coverage as well as make you look bright-eyed in seconds! Choose a shade lighter than your natural skin tone (as this will help brighten the area) but also opt for a “peachy” tone as this will counteract the blueish tinge of the shadows.Try ELES Dual Action Concealer my secret weapon for concealing my dark under eye circles and helping me look like I’ve had 8 hours of blissful slumber as opposed to only 5! It’s formulated with a myriad of anti-ageing wonder ingredients including Hyaluronic acid, Caffeine, Vitamins C & E, Collagen and more! And it actually helps to gradually improve skin’s texture while concealing those obvious under eye dark circles. Its moisturising formula provides continuous hydration as well as a natural longwearing finish meaning it lasts for hours without seeping into fine lines and wrinkles! It’s seriously good stuff. Simply apply with a small concealer brush and then finish with a powder to set the concealer so it doesn’t crease. For the most brightening effect, apply your concealer in a “V” or upside-down triangle shape beneath your eye. Swipe it directly under the eye, but bring it down to a point on your cheek beside your nostril and fill in the entire area.Use a little eye shadow to create the illusion of bigger eyesTo make our eyes look bigger, gently sweep a vanilla coloured shadow on your eyelids from your eyelashes to the crease. Use a medium tone shade in the crease – and slightly above the crease if you have hooded eyes. It can make your eyes pop without you looking OTT. Then use a touch of the vanilla-coloured eyeshadow just beneath the arch of your eyebrow to lift the eye, as well as at the inner corner of the eye.Wear mascara but choose it wiselyMascara is one of the most important products for adding definition and volume to the eyes, but there are a few points you need to know when it comes to selecting the right mascara for your ageing eyes.- Check out the ingredients in the mascara you are using. You might well have fallen for the marketing hype – longer, fuller lashes in seconds, but if your mascara contains preservatives, they can irritate your eyes which in turn will make you rub them more, this results in unwanted lash loss and let’s face it you want to cling onto those lashes of yours.- Be wary of using waterproof mascara daily. Waterproof mascara does indeed cause less smudging and smearing however the formulation can be harsher on your eye lashes, causing them to dry out as well as be tougher to remove (cue rubbing!) Where possible use water-soluble long wear mascaras but when you need to go waterproof (essential for beach and pool breaks) just be sure to check out the ingredients and remove with a good eye makeup remover.- Opt for smudge proof, lash-defining mascara. Sadly one of the symptoms of ageing eyes can be skin sagging this is when wearing mascara can be tricky as more often than not the mascara will smudge all around the eyes! By choosing a long-wear lash-defining mascara like ELES Lash Fortifying Mascara you’ll reduce any mascara fall out and every lash will be evenly coated and separated for that perfect natural look. What’s more the mascara is formulated with hydrolyzed keratin, panthenol, hyaluronic acid and vitamin e to strengthen, condition and protect lashes.- Mascara expires. When it does, throw it out and buy another, even if you think you’ve got a few more weeks or months in it! Every time you use your mascara you are pumping air into the wand, this creates bacteria. The average life of a mascara once used for the first time is 3 months. An expired mascara can (and will!) spark lash loss and lets face it you don’t need to be losing any more lashes!Don’t use an eye lash curler to curl your lashes, try this instead…You’ve been told to curl your lashes with an eyelash curler to create more volume and lift for your lashes, but this isn’t a good option as we get older. This is because as we age our lashes do too. It’s inevitable they will get weaker and thinner. Using an eyelash curler can create more damage than good and the curler can cause lashes to break. Instead a popular way to curl your lashes is by using a metal teaspoon. Press the spoon, concave side in, against your eyelid above your lashes. Now use your fingertip to press your eyelashes against the convex curve of the bottom of the spoon. Hold your lashes in place for 10 to 15 seconds and repeat in the corners. Or you can even use something as simple as your finger to curl your lashes! Simply close your eye and use your fingertip to gently push your upper eyelashes up against the top of your eyelid. Hold the eyelashes up for 30 seconds and then release them.Use a white eye pencil or waterline liner to brighten eyesAfter applying your eyeshadow and mascara, next line the inner rim of your lower lash line or waterline as it’s otherwise known with a white pencil or a nude waterline liner! (We recommend ELES’s Waterline liner). By doing so it’ll immediately open up your eyes as well as make the whites of your eyes look whiter (synonymous with younger looking eyes!)Don’t Rub Your Eyes! For itchy or irritated eyes try this insteadRubbing your eyes can cause wrinkles and dark circles. If you have itchy or irritated eyes, use a cold compress or eye drops to relieve the symptom. Applying slices of cucumbers is also a great idea! The cooling effect of the cucumber will relax the skin and alleviate any irritation or swelling around the eyes!Reduce Sun ExposureWe all know excessive exposure to the sun is the no.1 reason for skin ageing. But too much time soaking up those harmful rays can also result in premature wrinkles and age spots around the delicate eye area too. Make sure you’re always wearing sunglasses when outdoors to protect your peepers but also wear a hat and apply sunscreen too! You protect the rest of your skin, so don’t forgo the eye zone!Lay off the salt!Believe it or not, too much salt in your diet can affect your eyes and make them look older. Unfortunately, the delicate skin around your eyes is at higher risk of getting puffy the more salt you consume. Extra sodium unfortunately makes your body retain water. This excess water causes puffiness. Aghhh. So, try to ditch (ok maybe just cut down!) on those favourite foods (and drinks) of yours that are heavy on the salt.Stay HydratedWhen your body is dehydrated, your skin cells start to lose their plumpness. The skin around your eyes is already thinner than other parts of the body, so any reduction in plumpness in this area is visible relatively quickly. As a result, dehydration can cause your eye area to appear darker, discoloured, sunken, or hollow so you will look older than your years! By drinking plenty of water (aim for 8 glasses a day) you will help keep your skin hydrated and smooth, which can help reduce the appearance of those unwanted obvious wrinkles, fine lines and dark circles!. Remember water hydrates and plumps skin cells to make your skin look brighter, vibrant, and more youthful. It’s amazing stuff!Don’t go to sleep with your eye makeup onI’m sure we’ve all been guilty of skipping our evening cleansing routine once in a while because the idea of peeling ourselves off our bed just doesn’t feel like an option, but did you know just how bad this can be for your eyes? Not removing your makeup at night hinders the skin renewal process that takes place while you sleep. The days makeup and grime can clog the pores and trap dirt which can be damaging to your skin but you’re your delicate eye area. Mascaras make your lashes stiff; it’s part of its job. But leaving it on while you sleep will cause the stiffness to turn into dryness that can trigger lashes to break and soon result to lash fallouts! So instead opt for a good, gentle, easy-to-use eye makeup remover. We love Phytomer’s Doux Contour Eye and Lip Waterproof Makeup Remover as it simply melts away makeup and grime with minimum effort! Combining the effectiveness of an oil (a trio of oils in fact) and the gentleness of a lotion, this ultra-hydrating makeup remover, eradicates even the most stubborn eye makeup both gently and fast!Get Enough SleepNot getting enough sleep can cause your skin to look puffy and dull. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep a night to ensure your skin looks fresh and youthful. With the right products and habits and by following these simple tips, you can keep eyes looking younger for longer without resorting to expensive treatments or surgery.

AHAs, BHAs and your skin: Everything you need to know

by Jo Boyden on Dec 15 2022
If you are a lover of skincare, you’ve likely heard of AHA and BHAs, but do you know what it is they actually are, what they can do for your skin or what the difference between these exfoliating acids really are? Keep reading for everything you need to know about BHA, AHAs and your skin. What are AHAs and how do they work?AHAs, or otherwise known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids, are water-soluble acids derived from fruits and plants. They’re considered a chemical exfoliant, which means that they use chemicals — aka acids or enzymes — to buff away dead skin cells. The most common AHA’s in skincare are glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid and malic acid and they are typically found in cleansers and exfoliators but can sometimes feature in masks, serums and moisturisers too!AHAs work by breaking down the ‘glue’ that binds dead skin cells to the skin. Because they have a large molecule size, they primarily work on the top layers of the skin, making them particularly beneficial for those with dry, dehydrated or hyperpigmented skin. By removing dead and dry skin cells, AHAs smooth skin texture, brighten skin tone, fade pigmentation, and can also reduce the chance of breakouts from occurring! What are BHA’s and how do they work? The most well-known BHA is salicylic acid – chances are you’ll have heard of this one if you have breakout-prone skin, since it’s found in many spot treatments.Like AHAs, BHAs also work by breaking down the ‘glue’ that binds dull, dead skin to the surface, however they work on a much deeper level than AHAs, penetrating deep into the pores, unclogging and removing dead skin cells, excess sebum and congestion. This is because BHAs are oil-soluble, making them an effective treatment for oily, breakout and acne-prone skin. Because BHAs can penetrate so deep, removing both dead skin cells and excess oil (which when combined can clog pores and lead to breakouts) they are an effective whitehead and blackhead buster. BHAs also act as an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, so they work to kill acne-causing bacteria and reduce the redness and swelling of spots too. What is the difference between AHA’s and BHA’s?Although both of these ingredients are exfoliating acids and work to improve the appearance of skin by exfoliating it, they actually work in different ways. AHA’s work to break down the glue that holds dead skin cells together while BHA’s go deeper into the pores to remove dirt and oil.Are AHAs and BHAs good for all skin types? If you have oily and blemish prone skin, you’re best to choose skincare products formulated with BHA’s. If your skin tends to be on the dry, dehydrated side, AHA’s should be your go to.While these acids can dramatically improve the appearance of your skin, it’s important to remember that both AHAs and BHAs are active ingredients which (if overused) can impact your skin’s natural barrier, cause irritation, and increase skin’s UV sensitivity. For this reason, it’s essential to understand how to use acids properly, what to do if you over exfoliate your skin, and the best AHA and BHA skincare for your skin type. How to use AHA’s and BHA’s properlyAs with most skincare ingredients, especially exfoliants, AHAs and BHAs have their downsides, including possible sun sensitivity, peeling and itching, so you need to be sure not to overuse any products formulated with AHAs and BHA’s and be extra diligent about slathering on your sunscreen…daily, all year round! Before you incorporate AHA and/or BHA products into your daily skincare routine, you need to consider the other skincare products you are using, paying close attention to the ingredient list to avoid irritation since AHAs and BHA’s might not be compatible with them. It is best to steer clear of your retinol cream or serum on a day you are using AHA and BHA rich skincare as the combination may cause excessive skin sensitivity, irritation, and redness. On the other hand AHAs and BHAs can be mixed with moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, to get effective and long lasting results.AHAs and BHAs themselves can be combined. However AHAs such as glycolic acid, tend to be best for dry, dehydrated skin and surface-level skin concerns like acne scaring, whereas BHAs such as salicylic acid, are best for oily, blemish, and acne-prone skin types. You can use both by including skincare products which contain both ingredients, or by alternating your products. Try these AHA skincare favourites;Pevonia Renewing Glycocides CreamIf your skin is looking a tad dull and devitalised and you’re forever coveting that ‘insta-glow’, this product is your answer! Mature skin? The best way to cover under eye dark circles

by Jo Boyden on Dec 09 2022
Eyes looking tired? Dark circles more apparent? Unfortunately as we age so do our eyes! In fact our eyes experience ageing before any other part of our face, so dark under-eye circles, puffy peepers and fine lines and wrinkles are a given. All is not lost though! By arming yourself with a few key products, familiarising yourself with a couple of simple makeup tricks, and following our step-by-step guide, you can both improve and cover under-eye dark circles and other signs of eye ageing, even for those of us with mature skin! Firstly why do we get dark under-eye circles as we age? As we get older, our skin becomes thinner. This is the result of a decrease in fat and collagen production (which maintains our skin’s elasticity) As this occurs, the dark blood vessels beneath our skin become more visible, causing the area below our eyes to darken. Dark under eye circles can also be the cause of lack of sleep (which unfortunately increases with age too!) as well as poor blood circulation and insufficient toxin drainage! What is the best way to improve and cover dark under-eye circles? Start by giving yourself a mini facial massage with a gemstone roller By doing so you’ll help improve circulation, remove toxins from the eye area significantly improving dark circles and bags under the eyes, reduce inflammation, refresh the skin and tone your face! In fact gemstone rollers offer a multitude of other benefits too to your skin too. Click here to find out more. Invest in a good eye cream or gel or both! For mornings when your eyes are feeling particularly puffy, reaching for a cooling eye gel will do wonders for reviving this delectate area while reducing puffiness. We love Pevonia’s C Evolutive Eye Gel, it’s a personal favourite of mine and highly recommended by the BC Pros. It’s a wonderful, cooling gel, formulated with anti-ageing dynamo Vitamin C, skin saviours’ hyaluronic acid and Ginkgo biloba, as well as green coffee and it’ll have your peepers decongested and depuffed in one swift application! Also use a tapping motion with your finger which you apply it. This can help get rid of any fluid that’s accumulated under the delicate eye area.  If it’s dark circles you appear to be constantly suffering from, we highly recommend Vie Collection’s Chrono Eyes Puffiness-Dark Circles Wrinkle Cream. It’s a mouthful to say, but a product that does exactly what it says! It’s a beautifully fine cream enriched with moisturising ingredients to nourish the eye area while reversing puffiness, dark circles, and wrinkles! Oh and it instantly brightens the eye area too! Use a primer under your eyes before applying makeup As you age your skin becomes more prone to fine lines around your eyes. You want to conceal them but it’s best to do so by using a primer first. This will help fill in any lines and make the skin appear smoother (essential if you want to prevent makeup falling into the creases and exacerbating signs of eye ageing!) Use your ring finger and gently dab your primer over the wrinkles to the sides of your eyes and spread. Invest in a good concealer When it comes to camouflaging dark under eye circles, a concealer is by far your best bet. A good undereye concealer can give you complete coverage as well as make you look bright-eyed in seconds! Choose a shade lighter than your natural skin tone (as this will help brighten the area) but also opt for a “peachy” tone as this will counteract the blueish tinge of the shadows. Try ELES Dual Action Concealer. my secret weapon for concealing my dark under eye circles and helping me look like I’ve had 8 hours of blissful slumber as opposed to only 5! Swipe it directly under the eye, but bring it down to a point on your cheek beside your nostril and fill in the entire area. Don’t forget to add a little illuminator and waterline liner to your eyes too!  Adding a little white eyeshadow (or pencil or illuminator) to the inner corner of your eyes, as well as waterline pencil to the waterline of your eyes, you’ll attract attention away from ageing eyes and create the illusion of younger, brighter, more wide awake eyes with one little dot of the finger!

7 super ingredients in your skincare that are all the rage

by Jo Boyden on Dec 01 2022
In the pursuit of youthful skin, so many of us will buy into the ‘latest’ and ‘greatest’ skincare products and trends, especially when they promise to make you look 10 years younger! But with trends forever evolving and the multitude of skincare products out there, how are you supposed to differentiate between what actually works and what’ll likely be a passing fad? When it comes to the search for skincare, and we’re talking skincare products that will really have a significant impact on your skin, a good way to start is by looking for specific skincare ingredients. For instance, if you are looking to brighten dull, sun damaged skin, skincare products formulated with Vitamin C should be your go-to. Worried about visible signs of ageing? It’s time to introduce retinol products into your daily skincare routine. But Retinol and Vitamin C aren’t the only super skincare ingredients to look out for. There are in fact a total of 7 game-changing skincare ingredients that are all the rage right now and recommended by every beauty expert the world over! You’ve likely heard of them all before, in fact the majority have been around for many a year and are now perceived as cult favourites, but do you really know what it is they do? Read on to learn all there is to know about the beauty industries leading skincare ingredients and why they should become a constant in your skin’s daily life too!   Retinol Hailed as the Holy Grail of the skincare world, retinol counteracts ageing like no other! A derivative of Vitamin A, this ‘superhero’ ingredient offers a multitude of benefits; From reducing the appearance of fine lines and preventing wrinkles, to correcting hyperpigmentation, reducing large pores and clearing acne, retinol also has the ability to speed cell turnover making cells function like that of a child! Crazy right? Perfect for those with sun damaged, dull and discoloured skin, those suffering from large pores and adult acne, or simply because ageing is a concern, we couldn’t recommend retinol more. But be sure to understand how and when to use it first. Try Pevonia’s Micro-Retinol Moisturiser, and find out for yourself what all the fuss is about. “This is the most beautiful cream I have ever used; light texture, non-greasy, non-shiny. Changes in my skin include smoothing of lines and crepe-skin areas, softening, hydrating and contouring, and reduced pigmentation. Some results were instantly visible and now after three weeks my skin just keeps improving. Now it appears luminous and more refined. It’s a surprise to see a brighter smoother complexion at my age, I am 60!” Annie Hyaluronic Acid Probably the most famous skincare ingredient of them all, and renowned as every beauty expert’s ‘must-have’, hyaluronic acid has the ability to instantly deliver supple, dewy skin. It binds moisture to skin cells to keep skin smooth, firm, plump, and undeniably radiant and thanks to its sponge-like effect, every molecule can hold 1,000 times its weight in water so when topically applied it’s like a burst of intense hydration to the skin. But this skincare ingredient doesn’t stop there, not only does it benefit those with dry, dehydrated skin, it’s also a must for anyone with signs of premature ageing. So be sure you include this in your daily routine if you suffer from a dry, devitalised complexion or if you are simply in need of gentle anti-aging skincare. We are hands down in awe of Pevonia’s new Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum, featuring one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the skincare market! “I have just started using this serum and the results are already noticeable. My skin is so much more youthful! Smoother, plumper and visibly radiant! I couldn’t recommend more highly!!” Mary C   Glycolic Acid If your skin is looking a tad dull and devitalised and you’re forever coveting that ‘insta-glow’, Glycolic Acid is your answer. This super acid is a type of natural exfoliant derived from sugar cane, which dissolves the ‘glue’ that holds dead skins cells together. As dead skin cells shed, the new smoother, brighter and younger looking skin underneath is revealed. Made up of small molecules, it is also has the ability to penetrate deep within the skin, making it super effective for treating, blackheads, blemishes, oiliness, uneven texture, dullness and even fine lines! So if you have normal, combination and oily skin that’s looking far from radiant, Glycolic acid will be your saving grace. Try Pevonia’s Renewing Glycocides Cream, we promise you won’t regret it! “WOW, talk about overnight results! Minimizes my pores, smooths out my skin, and reduces redness. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to do all those things, but it’s been 2 months now since i’ve been using it every night and i LOVE this cream!” Sally O Vitamin C The best of the best when it comes to topical anti-oxidants, Vitamin C has been around for donkey’s years and for very good reason! Recommended by every beauty expert, this notorious glow-getter not only brightens skin, lessening hyperpigmentation, it also increases collagen production (which diminishes with age) and protects skin against pollution and sun damage by effectively neutralising free radicals (which can wreak havoc by harming healthy skin cells as well as promoting premature ageing – we are talking fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and more…) If you suffer from hyperpigmentation or dark spots or skin is lacking life and needs some serious brightening, vitamin c should be your go-to. We can’t recommend enough the Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe, it’s a firm favourite of ours! “This is a beautiful serum. You only require two pumps and the coverage is excellent. Radiant looking skin instantaneously. Definitely worth the investment.” Deborah W Collagen Peptides Collagen is technically a protein which naturally occurs in our bodies giving our skin strength and elasticity, as well as working to replace dead skin cells. However as we age our natural collagen levels begin to decline and the more collagen we lose, the more fine lines and wrinkles appear. Scary hey? This is where topical skincare solutions are an absolute must. By applying skincare formulated with collagen peptides, you can stimulate the synthesis of new collagen production and minimise the appearance of ageing. Sound good? To keep skin soft, supple and free of fine lines we are forever in love with Pevonia’s no. 1 global best-seller, the Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream. “I absolutely love this cream. It is a day cream and night cream and it helps with my puffiness, lines, blemishes, skin tone, you name it! Totally amazing.” Anna H Caviar Similar to retinol, caviar is a multi-tasking wonder ingredient! It works to enhance skin renewal and regeneration, it boosts collagen production and prevents the breakdown of elastin (which both diminish with age), it helps protect skin against UV rays, locks in moisture to keep skin deeply nourished and plumped and it brightens skin and reduces inflammation at the same time too! In fact caviar is suitable for all skin types even ultra-sensitive and easily irritated skin because it is rich in omega-3, and ceramides - anti-inflammatories that play a great part in reducing redness while soothing troubled skin! So if you want to bring back vitality and life to ageing, tired, and depleted skin this should be a must-have ingredient in your skincare arsenal. Try: Pevonia Myoxy Caviar Timeless Repair Cream. Drenched with potent actives to effectively counteract aging, this luxurious silky textured and easily absorbed cream provides outstanding rejuvenating results, smoothing wrinkles while increasing suppleness and oxygenation. “The very best anti-aging cream I have ever used...and I've tried them all!!! The cream is so rich that just a little goes a very long way in making your skin smooth with diminished lines and a the bonus of a fresh glow!” Sarah D Niacinamide Niacinamide or otherwise known as Vitamin B3, is the new kid on the block that everyone is raving about. This gentle ingredient when used topically can improve skin hydration by preventing evaporation of moisture from the skin. It's also a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient, so it's great for calming irritated and sensitive skin. What’s more it has the ability to improve skin tone and effectively fade dark spots, it can calm angry acne and it fights off harmful stressors such as UV rays, pollution, stress, lack of sleep, and other factors can all create free radicals that damage healthy skin cells. Oh and Niacinamide also improves the regulation of excess oil production, which can help minimise congestion and breakouts! What more could you ask? Try: Vie Collection Vita B3 Concentrated Solution. This light, melting textured serum is like a shot for the skin that will visibly improve skin’s radiance in next to no time! We are talking brighter, happier, healthier skin! Plus with continued use this product will significantly decrease pigmentation while reinforcing the protective functions of the skin barrier for the optimal skin health. “I love this serum! It’s become a staple in my skincare routine. It has slowly and gently removed ALL the sunspots I had on my face from never using sunscreen in my younger years. My skin is also now so much more radiant after introducing it! I’m one very happy customer.” Lorna M

best eyeshadow tips for ageing eyes

The best eyeshadow tips for ageing eyes

by Jo Boyden on Nov 17 2022
If you’re worried about ageing eyes you might well have stopped wearing eyeshadow in fear it will only exacerbate your fine lines and wrinkles. The thing is eyeshadow and all eye makeup for that matter serves a very important purpose no matter what your age! It can add depth and dimension to your eyes making them appear larger, it can complement your eye colour or simply draw attention to the eyes! And most importantly it will bring back life to your ageing eye area! Genius! So instead of forgoing eyeshadow, you just need to alter how, and which type you use! To get the lowdown, we talked to the experts at BC! Keep scrolling as we countdown 10 of the best eyeshadow tips for mature women. Start with a good eye cream It’s likely you’re doing this already, but if not, you’ll want (and need) the delicate skin around your eyes to be properly nourished! And we are talking both the eyelid and the undereye area! For a great eye cream for ageing eyes try Pevonia’s Age Correction Eye Contour. It’s formulated with Marine Collagen, Marine Elastin and Green Team which not only provide eyes with powerful anti-ageing benefits, it smooths, first and deeply nourishing the fragile eye zone too. Use a primer As our skin ages, under-eye wrinkles and crows feet become more apparent – they are a fact of life for us all! A good primer however will help reduce their appearance while increasing the longevity of your eyeshadow! It’ll also prep your eyelids preventing eye makeup from creasing, feathering, smudging or smearing! Apply a good under-eye concealer This will make eyes appear bigger and brighter in prep for your eyeshadow. Concealer isn't just for brightening up your under eyes though. Prepping the eye with a concealer that's about two shades lighter than your actual shade will make your eyeshadow more pigmented and in turn pop a lot more. You’ll need to use one with has a hydrating formula as this will add additional nourishment to the eye area as well as prevent the concealer from settling into fine lines and wrinkles.Try ELES Cosmetics Dual Action Concealer. Use a waterproof or long-lasting gel eyeliner You don’t want to get to lunch time and find yourself with panda eyes! No sireee. By using a waterproof or long-lasting gel eyeliner, it’ll stay in place all day plus give eyes much needed depth and definition. Try ELES Cosmetics Superwear Gel Liner. Line your eyes with a waterline liner Eyes tend to look duller and tired with age. A waterline liner will open up your eyes instantly creating the illusion of bigger, brighter, more youthful looking eyes.Simply apply your normal eyeliner to your top lash line then apply your waterline liner to the inner rim of your lower lash line. (We recommend ELES Cosmetics Waterline Liner). By doing so it’ll immediately open up your eyes as well as make the whites of your eyes look whiter. It works a treat I can vouch for that! Opt for matte eyeshadow and go mineral Eye shadow comes in many different colours and textures but for ageing eyes matte eyeshadows are the way to go. Those with mature eyes might find matte eyeshadow more longwearing and less likely to fade on their skin. Your best bet is to stock up on mineral matte eyeshadows that are pigmented without emphasizing fine lines but also packed with antioxidant vitamins A, C & E to pamper lids with crease-proof perfection. Try ELES Cosmetics Mineral Matte Shadows. Better still try the ELES Build your own Shadow Palette, you get to select which ever 3 shades of mineral shadow shades you want! A trio of colours on your eyes is always better than one, they will make your eyes stand out more and can also increase their size and let’s face it bigger eyes are more youthful! Choose lighter eyeshadow shades Opt for a lighter, natural eyeshadow shades rather than dark, smoky shades on your eyelids and around the eyes. Using neutral colours like shades of light browns, light pinks, beiges, or greys are best. Also add a light colour eyeshadow shade to the inner corner, lower lash line in outer corner, and the inner lid. Apply eye shadow correctly Don’t take your base eyeshadow shade and simply plonk it on the centre of your lid. Using a small eyeshadow brush, start from the outer corner of the eyes and work inwards, so that the colour gets gradually lighter. This will help give your eyes a bigger, wide-eyed look. Finish with mascara No matter your age, mascara will always be a go-to product. A good mascara (we are talking smudge-proof, waterproof, and long-lasting) adds volume and strengthens brittle lashes to keep them looking full and luscious. Fuller-looking lashes can also help to give a more youthful appearance to the eye area. However, it’s best not to wear mascara on the lower lashes as this can make your eyes look droopy as well as draw attention to dark circles and under eye wrinkles. Use a setting spray or powder Finally, to prevent eyeshadow fallout (after all we want it to stay in place all day or night long!) use a setting spray or if setting sprays aren't your thing, opt for a setting powder instead! Both work to lock your makeup in place. Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist.

brighten dull skin

6 ways to brighten your dull skin

by Jo Boyden on Oct 27 2022
Fed up with looking at your tired, dull skin in the mirror every morning? Miss that radiant complexion you once had and wonder if it’s possible you’ll ever get it back? Well, you can wonder no more as the answer is yes, and we are here to tell you how! Keep reading as we give you the lowdown on why your complexion is looking so lacklustre and 5 ways you can brighten skin naturally!Firstly though, what exactly is dull skin?Dull skin is skin that lacks radiance. It can appear lacklustre, dry, patchy and even a little rough to touch at times. Dullness can also be accompanied by an uneven skin texture because its less able to reflect light uniformly. Why is your skin looking dull and 6 simple solutions to brighten it Dead skin cells Dull skin is often the result of dead skin cell build up on the skin’s surface. It can happen at any age but is more common as we get older and our body’s ability to naturally shed dead skin cells and replace with new ones decreases!SOLUTION: Exfoliate skin weekly. Twice if your skin tends to be on the oily/combination side.Exfoliation is an essential step to any skincare routine because it’s the most effective way of removing dull, dead skin cells from the skin’s surface, making way for the new cells to come through and pores to remain unclogged. To learn more about exfoliation and the best exfoliators for your skin type click here. Fatigue If you’re feeling fatigued your skin will visibly reflect it by looking pale, dull and devitalized, often accompanied with dark, puffy peepers and exacerbated fine lines too! This is because when we are tired the blood in our body is not flowing efficiently which normally results in a lack of oxygen in the blood.SOLUTION: Use an oxygenating serumPhytomer’s Souffle Marin Energizing Oxygenating Serum is a beautifully lightweight serum that literally coats the skin in pure oxygen, providing the cells with the vivid rejuvenation they need. Formulated with marine extracts, the invigorating, moisturising blend, ensures fresher, more youthful skin with an overall increase in visible radiance. Free radical damage Free radicals (from pollution) can really take its toll on our skin. It damages collagen and stimulates pigment production causing our complexion to look tired and drab.SOLUTION: Introduce Vitamin C into your skincare routineIt can totally transform your skin! Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and THE go-to ingredient to dramatically brighten skin. For more information on Vitamin C and its multitude of benefits click here. Lack of sleep While you sleep, your skin is active. It’s the time your skin renews and repairs itself. Lack of sufficient sleep means your skin is not able to do this which in turn can dramatically affect its appearance from dull skin to dehydration, blemishes and premature ageing!SOLUTION: Use relaxation enhancing products before bed and try to get more sleep! If you find it hard to relax and fall asleep use products that will not only benefit your skin but calm your mind and senses too!Try Pevonia’s Vitaminic Concentrate. The radical treatment oil for skin lacking lustre, combats dullness and dehydration with a burst of vitamins A and E and Mandarin Essential Oil, so your complexion will look beautifully brighter and rejuvenated by morning. What’s more it has the most amazing aroma which alone helps calm the senses, and even though it’s an oil, it’s fast absorbing so you know it’s doing great stuff to your skin! Lack of water When you don’t drink enough water a day, the amount of water in your skin's surface dramatically declines leaving you with skin that looks deflated and dull instead of visibly plumped.SOLUTION: Replenish dull, dehydrated skin cells with hydration hero Hyaluronic AcidThanks to its sponge like effect, this super skincare ingredient has the ability to hold 1,000 times its weight in moisture, in other words, one gram of hyaluronic acid is able to hold up to six litres of water! Crazy right? And now, thanks to its molecular structure Hyaluronic acid has the ability to deeply penetrate to instantly deliver supple, dewy skin in a matter of seconds! In fact, it literally binds moisture to skin cells to keep skin smooth, firm, plump, and undeniably radiant! We are literally in LOVE with Pevonia’s New Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist! It feels a-mazing when spritzed all over the face and literally binds moisture to skin cells, instantly delivering supple, dewy skin in a matter of seconds! And if you need a nourishing cream, you can’t go wrong with Pevonia’s Power Repair Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream. This global best-seller is in fact abundant in Hyaluronic acid and Collagen, and acts like a moisture magnet, plumping and firming the skin immediately. Not removing your makeup before bed I’m sure we’ve ALL been guilty of this once or many a time! Especially when we are exhausted after the daily juggle, or perhaps have had one too many and ooh how that bed looks so inviting but removing the days makeup and grime off your face is a must! In fact not cleansing before bed means your skin is unable to regenerate effectively while you sleep, pores clog, and fatigue (ageing!) signs start to appear.SOLUTION: Use a cleanser you’ll LOVEFor a fantastic makeup remover which effectively melts away makeup and grime with minimum effort try Phytomer’s Doux Contour Eye and Lip Waterproof Makeup Remover. Combining the effectiveness of an oil (a trio of oils in fact) and the gentleness of a lotion, this ultra-hydrating makeup remover, eradicates even the most stubborn of lips and eye makeup fast! And my absolute favourite cleanser at the moment is Pevonia’s new CleanRefresh Foaming Oil Cleanser. Its oil formulation transforms into a luscious foamy cleanser on application when mixed with water and it leaves skin feeling fantastically refreshed and beautifully clean without the drying effects that other cleansers can leave. Plus, its subtle scent is just heavenly.
cakey makeup

How to fix cakey makeup for good

by Jo Boyden on Oct 14 2022
If you love makeup and like to layer it, it’s likely you will have fallen victim to cakey makeup on occasion! Unfortunately, ‘cakiness’ is an issue that happens to the best of us, but why so you might ask? Applying makeup to dry skin or using too much product are two reasons for cakey makeup but if you want to know how to fix this makeup mishap for good, keep reading as we reveal 8 top tips! What to do to avoid cakey makeupBoth your skincare routine and how you apply your makeup are crucial factors to avoiding a cakey makeup look so make sure you focus on properly prepping your skin and then make sure you apply your makeup with precision. Tip 1: Always make sure you prep your skin by exfoliating and moisturising to help makeup go on smoothlyExfoliating your face once or twice weekly will remove dead skin cells and debris, this in turn will help create a smooth surface for your makeup products.Moisturising is also essential as you want to eliminate dryness all together. Unfortunately, when your skin is dry your foundation is more likely to cake, so choosing moisturising skincare products formulated with skin nourishing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, shea butter and squalane is paramount. Tip 2: Always wear an eye creamOne of the most common areas of cakiness is around the eyes so you want to make sure this delicate area is perfectly prepped too! Apply a nourishing eye cream or mask such as Pevonia’s Evolutive Eye Cream and massage in with gentle tapping movements. Formulated with Squalane, Vitamins A & E, this perfectly nourishing eye cream not only tightens and firms the area around your eyes, but also works to repair fine lines and eliminate crepiness too! Thus, creating a perfectly smooth, supple surface for under eye concealer. Tip 3: Use a primerA good primer evens out your skin texture, making the surface of your skin smoother, so that your makeup glides on effortlessly and appears well blended. It can also help with longevity meaning your makeup will remain perfectly intact for longer!Oily skin can also cause makeup to split on the face so using a pore perfecting face primer is a must! The ELES Pore Perfecting Face Primer combats shine, absorbs oil and reduces the appearance of pores to keep foundation looking flawless all day long! Genius. Tip 4: Chose the right foundation for your skin typeChoosing a foundation formula for your skin type is essential when it comes to fixing and preventing cakey makeup. If your skin is dry, you’ll want to select liquid foundations as these tend to be more nourishing and hydrating than powders. For those prone to oily or combination skin, matte and powder foundations will be best since they will help absorb excess oil. Tip 5: Apply foundation in thin layers and gradually build it upOne of the main reasons for cakey makeup is in the amount of product you are applying.Remember less is always best, but if you want to hide those pesky pimples or blemishes make sure you blend a small amount of product at a time. You want to avoid looking overdone and remember you can always add more if need be. Tip 6: Use a makeup blender or sponge to apply foundationA slightly damp makeup blender can help soften your makeup, preventing cakiness from happening. Blend the foundation into your skin with the damp beauty blender, gently dabbing the product onto your skin. You can then use it to blend your concealer too focusing on blemishes and dark spots. This will help the product better settle into the skin preventing flakiness. Tip 7: Use a finishing powder to set makeupA finishing powder will provide a more-airbrushed finish to your makeup as well as help your foundation to stay put for longer wear without “caking”.It will also absorb any unwanted or excess oil and can also work to blur the appearance of pores, uneven texture, and sometimes even discoloration. Try the new ELES HD Translucent Powder. Made from 100% mineral silica powder it mattifies the skin without “caking” and softens the appearance of imperfections. Tip 8: Remove excess productExcess makeup and oil, especially in a full-coverage foundation look, can help create a cakey appearance. So, when you notice your makeup looks a little cakey or your skin looks shiny, gently blot with a blotting sheet or sponge, this will remove excess oil and foundation. Tip 9: Use a setting sprayOnce your makeup is complete, finish with a nourishing face mist (or setting spray) as they will add additional hydration to the skin as well as locking in moisture which will help keep makeup in place. Pevonia’s new Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist is a favourite of mine. Not only does it deeply nourish the skin, rejuvenating, plumping and relieving dry flaky skin, it also helps maintain your makeup look throughout the day.

What to do when moisturiser isn’t enough for your dry skin

by Jo Boyden on Oct 13 2022
Perhaps you’ve been a loyal fan of your trusty moisturiser for some time now but have recently realised it’s just not enough for your devitalised, dry skin? Or maybe you’ve read all the reviews on that ‘miracle’ face cream so many are raving about but find isn’t it working for your parched complexion. If you’ve been asking yourself why your skin is still so dry even when you moisturise religiously, something isn’t right, and we are here to tell you what! Keep reading as we explain what you need to do when that moisturiser of yours simply isn’t enough for your dry skin. Properly cleanse your skin morning and night A moisturiser isn’t going to work as well if your face isn’t clean! Moisturisers should be applied to perfectly cleansed skin as they prevent skin from drying out post wash and are actually most effective when applied to slightly damp skin as they seal in moisture.Cleanse skin twice daily, morning and night with a gentle creamy cleanser to wash away the day’s dirt, makeup and grim that can dry out the skin.Try: Pevonia - CleanRefresh™ Foaming Oil CleanserSuitable for all skin types, but especially recommended for dry skin, this innovative, triple duty oil cleanser features an advanced, lipid rich, alcohol-free, soap-free, exclusive formula which transforms into a luscious, foamy cleanser for a truly luxurious cleansing experience. Exfoliate weekly Exfoliation is essential. It will help remove dead skin cell build up that could be blocking your complexion and in turn preventing your moisturiser from properly absorbing into your skin.If your skin is dry exfoliate just once a week and try using a gentle exfoliator formulated with nourishing ingredients. A gentle exfoliant will help remove the dry cell barrier that prevents absorption of moisturising ingredients and will brighten dull skin at the same time.Try Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant. It’s seriously soft, silky and subtle scented plus it’s ideal for all skin types even the most sensitive or dry! It eliminates impurities by gently removing dead skin cells with natural enzymes (so no scrubbing or irritating the skin whatsoever) and naturally encourages cell turnover. The result? Beautifully luminous and youthful skin after every use – no jokes! Always use a serum Serums have multiple benefits but the most important is that they can hydrate more effectively than any moisturiser because the molecules in a serum are able to truly penetrate your skin much deeper than any other skincare product. So, while your moisturiser tends to sit on the skin’s surface nourishing the toy layers, your serum hydrates on the deepest level.Serums do not, however, replace your moisturiser, but instead, when applied prior to your moisturiser, boost its effects and help lock in moisture. Vital for those with dry skin!Try: Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. Featuring one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market (12%), combined with the powerful anti-ageing duo of marine collagen and Hibiscus Esculentus extract, this ultimate serum for seriously thirsty skin, delivers immediate skin soothing results and deep hydration. It eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dry of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. Oh and not only does it help rejuvenate skin cells but will bind any moisturiser you apply on top like a magnet too! Make sure your moisturiser is formulated with skin specific nourishing ingredients A deeply nourishing moisturiser is a must when it comes to a dry complexion but the only way you’ll truly get this is if it’s loaded with specific hydrating ingredients including; Hydration hero Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Glycerin and Squalane.Try: Pevonia Age Defying Marine Collagen Cream. This global best seller is my personal absolute can’t live without product and the no. 1 recommendation of the BC Pros too. It’s a gorgeously rich, yet fine cream – formulated with Squalane, Collagen, Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid – that feels amazing on application and really does leave skin super soft, supple and like it’s had that much-needed boost of moisture, a feeling that lasts all day! Use a facial mist in the morning (and throughout the day) Once you’ve applied your makeup it’s highly unlikely you’d reapply your moisturiser (after all you wouldn’t want to mess up that makeup of yours!) but by spritzing a face mist formulated with extra hydrating ingredients, will help give skin that extra boost of moisture every time you apply it throughout the day.Try: Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist. Formulated with super hydrator hyaluronic acid, this true multi-tasker can be used in the morning to revitalise your senses and replenish the moisture your skin has lost overnight, throughout the day to help your skin stay supple and fresh (or as the perfect pick-me-up), and as a toner to enhance your evening cleanse. What’s more it will actually improve the absorption of your serum and moisturiser optimising the benefits and overall results too! Oh, and it doubles as a finishing or setting spray, locking your makeup in place and increasing its length of wear! At night, lock in moisture with a facial oil Yes, your moisturiser will indeed moisturise your skin but without using a barrier cream or oil, moisture can escape, and skin will become dry again. Face Oils have the ability to help boost your moisturiser’s hydrating efforts by sealing in all the nourishing ingredients, making your skin more likely to hold onto that added hydration. In fact, face oils are integral to healthy skin as without them, moisture just continuously leeches out from the skin until the next time you apply your cream!Try: Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate. It’s a soothing, silky antioxidant oil with the most amazing mandarin aroma, is worth its weight in gold! It’s fast-absorbing and radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning.

by Jo Boyden on Sep 09 2022
Worried about wrinkles? Who isn’t? In fact, wrinkles are a major concern for both men and women, so much so that wrinkle injections are a fast-growing market, accounting for almost 40% of cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the world, and 70% of aesthetic medicine interventions. Are there safer, natural and needle-free alternatives that really work to diminish the appearance of wrinkles?Keep reading as we reveal Beauty Collectives’ best performing wrinkles creams, three anti-ageing creams that we promise will have your skin looking younger in next to no time.Firstly, while there is no serum or wrinkle cream that can magically make wrinkles disappear in a week quite like Botox, thanks to the advancement in both technology and skincare ingredients, the natural alternatives can seriously achieve similar smoothing and plumping results. It’s in fact a sugar! Thanks to its sponge like affect, Hyaluronic acid has the ability to hold 1,000 times its weight in moisture, in other words, one gram of hyaluronic acid is able to hold up to six litres of water! Crazy right? Making it THE super hydrator of the skincare world, especially more recently as advancement in technical innovation has changed it for the better! Now, thanks to its molecular structure Hyaluronic acid has the ability to deeply penetrate to instantly deliver supple, dewy skin in a matter of seconds! In fact, it literally binds moisture to skin cells to keep skin smooth, firm, plump, and undeniably radiant! The extra moisture also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles! But, this skincare-wonder doesn’t stop there, not only does it benefit those with dry, dehydrated skin, it’s also a must for all skin types, especially those concerned with premature ageing. This is because not only does it allow the skin and the connective tissues to retain moisture and remain hydrated, (and hydrated skin is healthy skin that ages slower!) It also helps maintain collagen levels (which dramatically declines with age), and we all know we need collagen to remain youthfulness when it comes to our complexion.Hyaluronic acid also helps with tissue regeneration, it is proven to help wounds heal faster, can reduce scarring and diminish redness and sunburn! This is due to its ability to keep the tissue moist, manage inflammation and signal the body to build more blood vessels in areas with the skin has been damaged so nutrients can get to them! And finally, this multi-tasking wonder is a real acne fighter. Hyaluronic acid has natural antibacterial properties making it perfect for those who are suffering from breakouts. What more could you ask from one skincare ingredient?Hyaluronic acid isn’t just a skincare ingredient though, it’s actually naturally produced by our bodies, but like collagen, as we age its production gradually decreases. Our skin then slowly loses its ability to maintain moisture and stay well balanced! This is where topical hyaluronic acid skincare becomes a necessity. Just remember though the more hyaluronic you put on your face, the more youthful you’ll look – fact! And nowadays we are spoilt with the many hyaluronic acid serums, creams, lotions and potions. Here are our four of our favourites, adored by our customers too! THE SERUMPevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra SerumThis Hyaluronic Acid Serum features one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the skincare market, combined with a powerful duo of marine collagen and hibiscus esculentus extract for optimum anti-ageing results. dry dehydrated skin

Dry vs dehydrated skin. What’s the difference?

by Jo Boyden on Aug 27 2022
Winter just keeps on giving and thanks to the gusty winds and cold temperatures of late, you might well have noticed a change in your skin and self-diagnosed as having a dry, dehydrated complexion? The thing is while dry skin and dehydrated skin share many of the same traits, they are in fact two very different skin conditions and therefore need to be treated in different ways.Dry skin is actually a skin type (just like your combination, sensitive and oily skin) inherited through your genetics (thanks parents!), whereas a dehydrated complexion is simply a skin concern caused by external factors and can be more easily rectified my making a few lifestyle changes. Curious to know which of the two you might suffer from? Read on as we explain the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin and the best products and ways to remedy both of these skin concerns. Dehydrated skinDehydrated skin is a skin condition that occurs when there is a lack of water in our skin. Dehydration can actually happen to anyone no matter your skin type - you can even have oily skin and experience dehydration! Sounds counterintuitive right? The thing is our skin is made up of layers of water-based cells, in fact, it’s estimated that our skin contains 64% water! Crazy right? The outermost layer of our skin is made up of lipids, keratin and sebum. Sebum is actually used as a way to keep the skin moisturised and acts as a waterproofing mechanism, keeping water from leaving your body. It also helps maintain flexibility in the skin and can act as a barrier from external factors.Sometimes our skin is however compromised due to external factors like the weather and pollution, or we simply aren’t getting enough water and sleep! When this happens the outermost layer loses its ability to maintain hydration which can result in itchy, tight and dull skin. The good news though, is that these signs of dehydration can be easily reversed by re-hydrating our bodies and moisturising our skin! So, if you’ve noticed that your skin suddenly looks a duller than before, your fine lines and wrinkles look a little more obvious even, or perhaps your skin feels tighter than normal, it’s a pretty good indication that the cause could be temporary dehydration. To learn more about why your skin is dehydrated and how to fix it click here. Dry skinDry skin on the other hand doesn’t lack water, it in fact lacks oil! The oil our skin naturally secretes from our sebaceous glands in our pores to keep skin protected and stop it from drying out! When there is a lack of oil our skin takes on a more flaky, scaly, dry appearance. Skin can also look inflamed with redness and irritation. For dry skin, moisturising is paramount. It’ll help dry skin better retain water and maintain a proper level of hydration. The key to addressing dry skin is to ensure the skincare you are using is formulated with specifical ingredients. Look for dry skin creams rich in nourishing ingredients including shea butter, squalane, safflower, jojoba, tea tree, hyaluronic acid and ceramides. Also opt for products that help you lock in moisture, such as your overnight oils.To learn more about dry skin and the best products for this skin condition click here.

Beauty Collective - younger looking eyes

Want younger looking eyes? 14 tips from the BC Pros

by Jo Boyden on Aug 05 2022
Noticed your eyes looking particularly tired of late? Dark and puffy perhaps? Or have those fine line and wrinkles you fear really started to show but the idea of Botox and fillers isn’t for you? Unfortunately, the delicate skin around our eyes is one of the first areas to show signs of ageing, so it’s essential we give it the same level of TLC as the rest of our skin! Keep reading as we reveal 15 expert tips on how to look after our eyes and make them look younger naturally. 1. Start caring for your eyes from a young age Prevention is paramount we all know that and like with our skin you are never too young to start caring for your eyes. But fear not, just in case you’ve left it until now to really look after this most delicate area, there are still many things you can do to keep eyes looking younger so read on! 2. Give yourself a mini facial massage every day By doing so you’ll help improve circulation and calm the fluid build-up around your eye area. Try using a gemstone roller. As well as their many medicinal benefits, they can dramatically reduce puffiness by removing excess fluid around the eyes towards your lymph nodes where it filters out toxins! So clever! To find out more about gemstone rollers and their multitude of benefits click here. 3. Apply an eye cream morning and night You do not want to leave the skin around your eyes dry, ever! Applying an eye cream morning and night will not only ensure eyes are receiving the nourishment they require but will also help target signs of ageing and fatigue such as puffiness, under eye bags, lines and wrinkles. Look for products formulated with hyaluronic acid and shea butter for nourishment, vitamin c for brightening and caffeine which helps reduce swelling by constricting the blood vessels. Also use a tapping motion with your finger which you apply it. This can help get rid of any excess fluid that’s accumulated under the delicate eye area. In the morning opt for a cooling eye gel. Try Pevonia’s C Evolutive Eye Gel, it’s a personal favourite of mine and highly recommended by the BC Pros. It’s a wonderful, cooling gel, formulated with anti-ageing dynamo Vitamin C, skin saviours’ hyaluronic acid and Ginkgo biloba, as well as green coffee and it’ll have your peepers decongested and depuffed in one swift application! At night choose a nourishing eye cream like Vie Collection’s Chrono Eyes Puffiness-Dark Circles Wrinkles Cream. Yes, a mouthful to say, but a product that does exactly what it says. It’s a beautifully fine cream enriched with moisturising ingredients to nourish the eye area while reversing puffiness, dark circles, and wrinkles! Seriously! it gives immediate gratification thanks to a pearlescent finish that instantly brightens the eye area, and it has definitely calmed my puffiness, lightened my dark circles, and even smoothed my wrinkles! 4. Use a primer under your eyes before applying makeup As you age your skin becomes more prone to fine lines around your eyes. You want to conceal them but it’s best to do so by using a primer first. This will help fill in any lines and make the skin appear smoother (essential if you want to prevent makeup falling into the creases and exacerbating the appearance of the lines!) Use your ring finger and gentle dab your primer over the wrinkles to the sides of your eyes and spread. 5. Invest in a good concealer As well as becoming prone to fine lines and wrinkles, the delicate skin around our eyes becomes thinner with age too! This unfortunately makes it easier to see the blood vessels beneath you skin which is what causes the appearance of dark circles. It’s best to choose a concealer that is lighter than your foundation (this will help brighten your eyes) and one that is yellow based as this will counteract any purple or blue that you may have in your undereye thanks to the blood vessels. Use a concealer brush, beauty blender or your fingers to blend. Try ELES Dual Action Concealer. This anti-aging concealer actually helps to gradually improve skin’s texture while concealing those obvious under eye dark circles. Its moisturising formula provides continuous hydration as well as a natural longwearing finish meaning it lasts for hours without seeping into fine lines and wrinkles! 6. Line the outer edges of your upper lid to make your eyes look lifted Annoyingly as we get older the skin on our eyelids tends to droop too! By using an eyeliner on your top lash line from the middle to the outer corners with a tiny flick at the end (we are talking very subtle cats’ eye) will bring back the youthful shape to your eyes. Just be sure the line is thin as you want it to look natural and not over done! 7. Curl your lashes! While applying lashings of mascara to lashes will enhance your eyes, remember to curl your lashes first. This will open up your eyes for a wide-eyed look. While it might be a small step, it’s a subtle one that can make a big difference so don’t skip on it. Just be sure to apply two coats of mascara after curling. This will help lock the curl in place as well as add volume to your lashes. 8. Add definition and shape to your thinning eyebrows As you age your eyebrows get naturally thinner. By adding definition and shape to them you can completely transform your face and give the appearance of an instant eye lift! Start by brushing your eyebrows so the hairs are sitting naturally, then use a soft, waxy brow pencil like the ELES Precision Brow Pencil to shape and fill in your brows using short, hair-like strokes. Read more on how to create the perfect brows. 9. Reduce your sodium (salt!) intake Believe it or not, too much salt in your diet can affect your eyes and make them look older. Unfortunately, the delicate skin around your eyes is at higher risk of getting puffy the more salt you consume. Extra sodium unfortunately makes your body retain water. This excess water causes puffiness. Aghhh. So, try to ditch (ok maybe just cut down!) on the chips, takeaway and if you’re a fan like me, the margarita’s too! 10. Take a break from screen time We are all guilty of spending hours in front of our devices, but this excessive screen time can actually reap havoc with our precious peepers thanks to the blue light they omit! The thing is screens are a part of our daily lives so while it’s not possible to get rid of them, reducing the time spent in front of them or having breaks in between to rest our eyes can help dramatically. To learn more about blue light damage and how it affects your eyes, click here. 11. Apply cucumbers (and chamomile tea bags) to your eyes It’s no myth, by placing slices of cool cucumber over your closed eyelids for 5-10 minutes will help brighten and hydrate your eyes as well as reduce puffiness thanks to the Vitamin C and caffeic acid. While applying lukewarm chamomile tea bags directly on the eyelids will calm the skin and reduce inflammation. 12. As well as cucumbers, apply raw potato slices to your eyes! That’s right, applying slices of refrigerated potato to your eyes is another fantastic natural remedy to reduce undereye circles and puffiness. The enzymes and the astringent properties in the potatoes also help reduce inflammation as well as tighten the skin too. Genius! 13. Get enough shut eye Lack of sleep can affect our eyes, fact. Afterall who hasn’t woken up with saggy, puffy eyes of a morning when they haven’t had enough sleep? Sleep helps the body renew and repair itself and allows your eyes to rest, while letting that eye cream you’ve applied before bed work its magic! So, it’s time to make sleep a priority. I know easier said than done for some, but I also know myself that I need to practice what I preach, and if I wanted to, I could put down that book or turn off the tv or close my laptop an hour before I actually do each night! 14. Wear sunglasses religiously After all, you want to protect those sensitive peepers of yours as much as possible and we all know the sun is THE no. 1 cause of premature ageing!
