Confused about face oil? Here's everything you need to know

by Jo Boyden on Jul 24 2026
Once thought to be only for dry, mature skin, face oils have become one of the biggest skincare staples in recent years, but also one of the most misunderstood! And with so much conflicting advice online, it's no wonder so many of us aren't quite sure how or when to use a face oil, or even if it’s necessary at all! The truth is, the right face oil can transform the way your skin looks and feels. Really. Whether you're looking to boost hydration, strengthen your skin barrier, calm irritation or achieve that healthy, radiant glow, understanding how face oils work is the key to getting the best results. Keep reading for everything you need to know.   Firstly, exactly what does a face oil actually do? Despite the name, face oils don't simply "add oil" to your skin. Instead, they help to seal in hydration, strengthen your skin barrier and reduce moisture loss, leaving skin feeling softer, smoother and more comfortable. Many are also rich in essential fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins that help nourish the skin while supporting a healthy, radiant complexion. It is important to understand, however, that oil and hydration are not quite the same thing. While your serums deliver active ingredients and your moisturiser hydrates the skin, a face oil helps lock all that goodness in! This is why oils often work best as the final nourishing layer in a well-rounded routine rather than as a replacement for every other skincare step. Think of a face oil as the finishing touch to your skincare routine!   Do you need a face oil in your routine? Not everyone needs one, but many people can benefit from adding one to their routine. A face oil can be especially helpful if you have: Dry or dehydrated skin Mature or menopausal skin A compromised skin barrier Skin that feels tight after cleansing Dull or lacklustre skin Skin exposed to harsh winter weather or air conditioning If your skin often feels comfortable, balanced and well hydrated, you may not need to use a face oil every day. But during winter, after travel or whenever your skin feels particularly dry or stressed, it can provide an extra boost of nourishment.   Are you applying your face oil in the right order? This is probably the question we get asked most! Face oil should almost always be the last step in your skincare routine, after your serum and moisturiser. Why? Because oil creates a protective layer over the skin, helping to reduce moisture loss. If you apply it before your water-based serums or moisturiser, it can make it harder for those products to absorb properly. A simple daily routine would include a cleanser, toner (if using), serum, moisturiser and finally your face oil.   Should you use a face oil in the morning or at night? The answer is... either! Many people prefer applying a face oil at night, allowing it to nourish and replenish the skin while they sleep. However, if your skin feels particularly dry or you're after a healthy, radiant glow, a lightweight face oil can also work beautifully during the day beneath sunscreen and makeup. You can even add a drop or two to your makeup!   Can oily or acne-prone skin use a face oil? Absolutely! This is one of the biggest misconceptions about face oils sadly! So many people with oily, combination or blemish prone skin miss out of this essential step because they believe a face oil will only exacerbate their oily, reactive skin. The key is choosing a lightweight, non-comedogenic formula that's suited to your skin type! In fact, stripping oily skin with harsh products can often make matters worse, causing the skin to produce even more oil to compensate. The right face oil can actually help support a healthier skin barrier and improve overall skin balance.   Can you use a face oil every day? Yes. If your skin enjoys it, a face oil can absolutely become part of your daily skincare routine. Some people prefer using it morning and night, while others reserve it for evenings or during winter when their skin needs a little extra nourishment. The best approach is to listen to your skin!   Can you use a face oil with retinol? Yes, and they actually work beautifully together! Retinol can sometimes leave skin feeling dry or tight, particularly when you're first introducing it into your routine. Applying a face oil after your moisturiser can help comfort the skin and reduce moisture loss without affecting your retinol. It is best not to mix your retinol and facial oil together unless the brand specifically advises doing so, as this can make it harder to control how much retinol you are applying. If you are new to retinol or your skin is sensitive, introduce it slowly and avoid layering too many active products in the same routine. Facial oil may make the skin feel more comfortable, but it will not prevent irritation caused by using retinol too frequently or at too high a strength.   Can you mix face oil with foundation? You certainly can! Mixing one small drop of face oil into your liquid foundation can help create a fresher, more radiant finish, particularly if your makeup tends to look dry or cakey during winter. Just don't overdo it, too much oil can reduce the longevity of your makeup.   How many drops should you use? Remember less is always more. For most people, 2–4 drops is all you need for your face and neck. Using more won't necessarily deliver better results and may simply leave skin feeling greasy   Our favourite face oils (and the ones our customers love too!) Now that you know how and when to use one, these are three of our favourite formulas for adding softness, nourishment and radiance to the skin.   Phytomer Rosee Soin Radiance Replenishing Oil If dull, tired-looking skin is your biggest concern, this luxurious botanical oil helps replenish moisture while restoring radiance and leaving skin beautifully soft and luminous. The De-Stress Escape Oil is my new favourite product!" — Anne E Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate Often described as "liquid gold", this vitamin-rich concentrate is ideal for dry, mature or winter-weary skin, helping restore softness, comfort and a healthy-looking glow. "I love using Vitaminic Concentrate all year round, however especially in winter. Once you understand what they do, when to apply them and how they fit into your routine, they can become one of the most rewarding steps in your skincare routine. Whether you're looking to calm dryness, support your skin barrier, boost radiance or simply achieve a healthier-looking glow, the right face oil can make all the difference!
Skin in need of nourishment? These are the best products

Skin in need of nourishment? These are the best products

by Jo Boyden on Jul 26 2024
Feeling like your parched skin could do with a little extra love but not sure where to start? Whether your skin’s need for that boost of nourishment is due to stress, lack of sleep, or perhaps it’s the current cold weather that’s causing havoc with your complexion, we are here to help! Keep reading as we round up the best nourishing skincare products. 8 products that will turn your skin from dehydrated to gorgeously glowy in little to no time. Firstly though why are you currently dealing with a parched complexion? Your skin may be feeling particularly dry or dehydrated at the moment due to a combination of environmental, lifestyle, or health factors. Here are the most common causes: Environmental Factors Seasonal Changes: Cold weather and low humidity levels during winter can suck the life out of our already depleted complexion stripping moisture from our skin, leading to dryness. Indoor Heating: Having the heating pumping 24/7 (I know I’m guilty of this!) can reduce indoor humidity, further dehydrating our skin. Sun Exposure: Even in colder months, UV rays can damage our skin and deplete its moisture levels so make sure you are wearing your sunscreen daily! Lifestyle Factors Hydration: Let’s face it, many of us get a little lazy when it comes to rehydrating ourselves during the colder months but not drinking enough water can (and will!) lead to dehydrated skin. Diet: A diet lacking in essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants can impact our skin's ability to retain moisture so make sure you stock up on your leafy greens, berries and fatty fish. Hot Showers: Who doesn’t love a long hot shower in the morning (and evening!) when its cold outside but believe me when I say by doing so you will strip your skin of its natural oils, causing dryness. Lack of Sleep: Inadequate sleep can lead to a decrease in blood circulation, making the skin look pale and tired. During sleep, the skin repairs and regenerates, so lack of sleep can hinder this process. Stress: Chronic stress can lead to hormonal imbalances that affect the skin, potentially causing issues like acne, dryness, and dullness. Skincare Routine Harsh Cleansers: Using cleansers that contain alcohol or other harsh ingredients can strip your skin of its natural oils, so be vigilant about what you are putting on your skin! Lack of Moisturiser: Skipping moisturiser or using one that isn’t hydrating enough can leave your skin feeling dry. This is why we are here to help! Over-Exfoliation: Exfoliating too often can damage your skin's protective barrier, leading to moisture loss. Best to stick to exfoliating once or twice a week. Health Factors Age: Unfortunately as we age our skin not only reduces its production of collagen and elastin, but it also produces less oil too, making it more prone to dryness. Medical Conditions: Conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and hypothyroidism can cause dry skin. Medications: And if you happen to be taking certain medications right now (and that includes diuretics and acne treatments) they too can have drying effects on the skin. The best products to rejuvenate and nourish your dry and dehydrated skin Now for the products that can really help! The benefits of face oils and the best ones for your skin

The benefits of face oils and the best ones for your skin

by Jo Boyden on Jun 14 2024
If your skin is feeling particularly parched or you’re wondering how to achieve that coveted healthy glow, face oils could be your answer. These potent elixirs are packed with nourishing ingredients that can seriously transform your skin, offering benefits that extend far beyond simple hydration. From enhancing your skin's barrier to providing a boost of antioxidants, face oils are a necessary addition to any skincare routine. Keep reading as we reveal everything there is to know about face oils, from their multitude of benefits that moisturisers and serums alone may not provide, to the best ones for your skin type. Whether your skin is dry, oily, sensitive, or mature, there's a face oil out there for you! Firstly, exactly what are face oils? Face oils are typically formulated with botanical and essential oils as well as plant extracts and antioxidants. They are designed to soften, nourish and balance your complexion, locking in hydration and providing skin with the additional moisture it needs for a truly glowing complexion. Non-comedogenic, they won’t clog pores and cause breakouts either! Why use a face oil Adding a face oil to your skincare routine can be a transformative step towards achieving healthier, more radiant skin. Face oils are packed with nourishing ingredients that penetrate deeply into the skin, providing intense hydration and locking in moisture. They can help balance oil production, making them suitable for various skin types, including oily and acne-prone skin. Face oils also contain antioxidants that combat free radicals, reducing signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. Whether used alone or mixed with your moisturiser or foundation, face oils will leave your skin feeling soft, supple, and glowing. The Benefits of Face Oils Adding a face oil to your skincare routine can be beneficial for several reasons Deep Hydration Face oils are incredible for deep hydration. Unlike moisturisers that may evaporate quickly, or often sit on the surface of your skin, oils penetrate deeply into the skin, locking in moisture and keeping your skin soft and supple. Enhanced Skin Barrier Our skin barrier is essential for keeping out pollutants and retaining moisture. Face oils contain essential fatty acids that strengthen this barrier, making your skin more resilient and less prone to irritation. Rich in Antioxidants Many face oils are packed with antioxidants, which help combat free radicals and prevent premature aging. Oils like argan are rich in vitamins A and E, promoting skin elasticity and reducing fine lines. Skin plumping In your 40s wrinkles can start to look more obvious because the skin’s natural oils decrease, the moisture barrier breaks down, and the skin dries out. Because oils are lipophilic, or fat loving, they pass through the lipid layer of the skin faster, preventing water loss and plumping skin with moisture more effectively. Balancing Properties It might seem counterintuitive, but oils can help balance oily and acne-prone skin. Oils like tea tree and grapeseed have antimicrobial properties and can regulate sebum production, reducing breakouts and giving you a clearer complexion. Soothing and Calming For those with sensitive or irritated skin, oils such as chamomile and calendula can provide soothing relief. Their anti-inflammatory properties help reduce redness and calm irritated skin, promoting a more even and calm complexion. The best oil for your skin type The most nurturing oil for sensitive skin Naturys Sensitive Hydra Oil If you suffer from sensitive skin and are prone to redness and irritation, this oil really can help transform your complexion! dry to dewy skin

From Dry to Dewy: The best skincare routine for Dry Skin

by Jo Boyden on Jul 20 2023
Whether you love or loathe cold, winter weather, there is no mistaking the havoc it can cause on our skin. Ever dealt with (or perhaps currently experiencing) dry, flaky patches? Tightness even? Or perhaps it’s a dull lacklustre complexion you have become accustomed too of late! Well, we are here to tell you how you can transform that dry skin of yours to deliciously dewy in next to no time. All you need to do is follow the right skincare routine for dry skin! And stick to it daily. Morning skincare routine for dry skinWhen it comes to the best skincare routine for dry skin, the products you use in the morning will differ from those you apply at night. First and foremost you want to make sure you build a skincare routine rich in moisture, you need to rehydrate that parched skin of yours, but you want to ensure you then keep it nourished and hydrated too!Step 1 - Hydrating CleanserThe first step in any skincare routine is cleansing, but for us dry-skin folks, it's essential to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser. Look for cleansers with a creamy or oil-based formula that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Harsh, foaming cleansers can be our arch-nemesis, so avoid those like the plague!Try Pevonia Hydrating Cleanser. Thanks to its outstanding combination of marine collagen, marine elastin, hyaluronic acid and glycerin, this nourishing, creamy textured cleanser thoroughly removes skin impurities and excess oil without any residue, all whilst helping to preserve your skin’s moisture too!N.B Exfoliation is essential too as you’ll want to rid your skin of any lingering dry, dead, skin cells to make way for the healthy, new cells patiently waiting underneath! How often you exfoliate will depend on the sensitivity of your skin though, so best to start with once a week and use a gentle exfoliating cleanser. This will keep skin brighter and balanced (without stripping away moisture) and will also assist in products such as your serum being able to fully penetrate your skin for optimal end results.Step 2 - Hyaluronic Acid SerumYou might we wondering if you really need a serum in your skincare routine because doesn’t your moisturiser offer enough nourishment? Well I’m here to tell you how necessary a serum really is! Serums are like a shot for the skin. Firstly they tend to perform above and beyond many regular skincare products, this is because they are developed with a higher concentration of targeted active ingredients. Secondly, the purpose of a serum is to target a specific concern. In our case dryness!Incorporate a hyaluronic acid serum into your morning skincare routine, and your skin will thank you for it! Believe me. Hyaluronic acid is a dry-skin superhero! This moisture-binding ingredient can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, leaving your skin feeling hydrated and plump.Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. The ultimate for seriously thirsty skin, this serum eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dehydrated of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. By adding moisture back into your skin, this serum immediately boosts skin’s suppleness and combats ageing in multiple ways thanks to its skin-plumping properties.Step 3 - Eye CreamIf you have dry skin, it's essential not to forget to incorporate an eye cream into your daily routine. The skin around the eye is some of the most delicate on the body, so it needs that little extra TLC that your moisturiser can not provide. In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage. While you might think your moisturiser will suffice, you’d be wrong! Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients to the skin, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia. A hydrating eye cream can help prevent dryness, nourish already present crepiness, and combat signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, undereye puffiness and dark circles! Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, vitamin c, shea butter, collagen and vitamin B as they will help restore the delicate skin and retain moisture.Try Pevonia Evolutive Eye Cream. This anti-ageing eye cream deeply nourishes and renews the delicate under eye area in multiple ways. Formulated with a powerful blend of anti-agers including hyaluronic acid, vitamin A and glycolic acid, it firms, smooths and hydrates dry, crepey skin.Step 4 - Nourishing MoisturiserA moisturiser not only infuses your skin with hydration but also helps trap in all of the products underneath it to make the ingredients even more effective. When it comes to dry skin, a super nourishing moisturiser rich in specific ingredients such as shea butter, ceramides, glycerin, natural oil (think avocado, jojoba, or rosehip) and hyaluronic acid is a must! It’ll help replenish your skin with the nourishment it craves.Try Phytomer Nutritionnelle Dry Skin Rescue Cream – this is a salvation for even the driest skin, bringing comfort, hydration and protection. Step 5 - SunscreenSunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine, regardless of skin type. Sun damage is the no. 1 cause of premature ageing so what’s the point of spending money on all those anti-ageing skincare products if you undo all the good by not being religious with your sunscreen application! Protecting your skin from sun damage will make all your other skin care products more effective!Choose a lightweight sunscreen that won't clog pores or cause breakouts. Go for a chemical or mineral sunscreen of at least SPF 30 (preferably 50). Sun damage can worsen dryness, so don't forget this crucial step, even on cloudy days.Try ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50+ It’s super lightweight and full of great ingredients that prevent hyper-pigmentation and dehydration. It also gives you a bit of glow which is a bonus that many sunscreens don’t provide.Step 6 - Facial MistFor that extra boost of cooling hydration and to lock in all those skincare ingredients throughout the day a facial mist is a must!Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist This product is a dream. It provides the perfect spritz to replenish tired, dry or tight skin. As well as Hyaluronic Acid, it’s formulated with a blend of ultra-calming Chamomile, Aloe, Green Tea and aromatic essential oils, making this powerhouse product ideal for all skin types, especially dehydrated, irritated, and ageing skin! However should your skin be on the sensitive side, a little itchy or irritated even, it will work its magic to calm, nurture and alleviate too. Night skincare routine for dry skin Step 1 - CleanserFirst thing you’ll likely want to do (and should do) after a long day is remove the days makeup and grime from your face with a good cleanser or face wash. Should you wish to double cleanse, you can do that too!Try using an oil cleanser first followed by a cream cleanser to refresh your skin and leave a dewy finish.Step 2 - Hydrating TonerFollow your face wash with a hydrating toner. Unfortunately, toners are often the forgotten skincare product, usually because people don’t understand their purpose, but they are in fact an essential product in any skincare routine! Why? Because a good toner will not only remove any excess makeup and grime that your cleanser might have missed but it will also prep your skin for the goodness that follows (we are talking ingredients in the rest of your skin care routine!) The best toner for dry skin will pump up hydration but also restore skin, balance pH too.Opt for an alcohol-free, hydrating toner that contains ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin to lock in moisture as well as plump up your skin. Pat it on gently with your hands or use a soft cotton pad.Try Pevonia Hydrating Toner – Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice, and Vitamin E, it works to hydrate, revive and fully refresh the skin. Great for anyone with worried about ageing, dehydration or devitalised skin. Step 3 – face mask With so many steps in your daily skincare routine, you might be wondering if masking is really another necessary step, after all, what more can this product do for your skin that your cleanser, toner, exfoliator, serum and moisturiser hasn’t already done? Well, the answer to that is a lot actually! Face masks are in fact an essential part of any skin care routine, and for very good reason. Not only do they help protect your skin from environmental pollutants and other irritants, but they also help to keep skin looking and feeling healthy. They are also a great way to give your skin a boost of nourishment and help to target any skin concerns you may have too., dry skin in this case!Treat yourself to a hydrating face mask once or twice a week. Sheet masks, gel masks and cream masks formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and jojoba oil can work wonders for dry skin. Sit back, relax, and let the mask work its magic!Try Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin Mask. This revitalizing and nourishing mask takes its inspiration from mesotherapy to visibly revitalize the skin. Its formula contains a cocktail of vitamins and hyaluronic acid that ensure beautifully nourished, plumped and radiant skin after every application.Step 4 – Brightening SerumAt night you can either opt for your hyaluronic acid serum again, or change it up with a good vitamin C serum. After all you want to brighten that dull complexion of yours as well and rehydrate it.Try Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe. This product is a-mazing for that perfect pick-me-up. Vitamin C and hydration hero hyaluronic acid, work together to quite literally drench skin with repairing antioxidants, deeply nourishing skin while correcting photo-damage. Not only does it have the most beautiful citrus aroma, when applied skin looks instantly brighter and dewier too!Step 5 - Night CreamWhile you might well love your everyday moisturiser, it’s likely it’s not providing enough nourishment for your skin at night. This is because at night, our skin goes into repair and regeneration mode so a richer night cream formulated with specific ingredients, can make all the difference. In fact, a good night cream will not only sooth and calm skin while you sleep, but also deliver lasting moisture while addressing common skin concerns such as moisture loss and skin ageing! They also help in the skin repair and renewal process by improving cell turnover!Try Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream. This beautifully rich textured cream literally cocoons skin while restoring youthful vitality with a nourishing blend of active marine botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids and conditioning oils.Step 6 - Face OilFor an extra boost of hydration, face oils are a game-changer. Apply a few drops of face oil specifically designed to combat dryness over your moisturiser to seal in moisture and goodness all night long. Not only will your skin drink it up, but you’ll also wake to a radiant, dewy complexion come morning!Try Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate – Fast-absorbing, this soothing, silky anti-oxidant oil radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning. Outstanding stuff! Consistency is key, so stick to this routine and say goodbye to dry, parched, patchy skin for good! Just remember though that skincare isn't just about what you put on your skin—it's also about what you put in your body. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and incorporating water-rich fruits and veggies into your diet.

Formulated with Squalane, Vitamins A & E, this perfectly nourishing eye cream not only tightens and firms the area around your eyes, but also works to repair fine lines and eliminate crepiness too! Thus, creating a perfectly smooth, supple surface for under eye concealer. Tip 3: Use a primerA good primer evens out your skin texture, making the surface of your skin smoother, so that your makeup glides on effortlessly and appears well blended. It can also help with longevity meaning your makeup will remain perfectly intact for longer!Oily skin can also cause makeup to split on the face so using a pore perfecting face primer is a must! The ELES Pore Perfecting Face Primer combats shine, absorbs oil and reduces the appearance of pores to keep foundation looking flawless all day long! Genius. Tip 4: Chose the right foundation for your skin typeChoosing a foundation formula for your skin type is essential when it comes to fixing and preventing cakey makeup. If your skin is dry, you’ll want to select liquid foundations as these tend to be more nourishing and hydrating than powders. For those prone to oily or combination skin, matte and powder foundations will be best since they will help absorb excess oil. Tip 5: Apply foundation in thin layers and gradually build it upOne of the main reasons for cakey makeup is in the amount of product you are applying.Remember less is always best, but if you want to hide those pesky pimples or blemishes make sure you blend a small amount of product at a time. You want to avoid looking overdone and remember you can always add more if need be. Tip 6: Use a makeup blender or sponge to apply foundationA slightly damp makeup blender can help soften your makeup, preventing cakiness from happening. Blend the foundation into your skin with the damp beauty blender, gently dabbing the product onto your skin. You can then use it to blend your concealer too focusing on blemishes and dark spots. This will help the product better settle into the skin preventing flakiness. Tip 7: Use a finishing powder to set makeupA finishing powder will provide a more-airbrushed finish to your makeup as well as help your foundation to stay put for longer wear without “caking”.It will also absorb any unwanted or excess oil and can also work to blur the appearance of pores, uneven texture, and sometimes even discoloration. Try the new ELES HD Translucent Powder. Made from 100% mineral silica powder it mattifies the skin without “caking” and softens the appearance of imperfections. Tip 8: Remove excess productExcess makeup and oil, especially in a full-coverage foundation look, can help create a cakey appearance. So, when you notice your makeup looks a little cakey or your skin looks shiny, gently blot with a blotting sheet or sponge, this will remove excess oil and foundation. Tip 9: Use a setting sprayOnce your makeup is complete, finish with a nourishing face mist (or setting spray) as they will add additional hydration to the skin as well as locking in moisture which will help keep makeup in place. Pevonia’s new Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist is a favourite of mine. Not only does it deeply nourish the skin, rejuvenating, plumping and relieving dry flaky skin, it also helps maintain your makeup look throughout the day.

What to do when moisturiser isn’t enough for your dry skin

by Jo Boyden on Oct 13 2022
Perhaps you’ve been a loyal fan of your trusty moisturiser for some time now but have recently realised it’s just not enough for your devitalised, dry skin? Or maybe you’ve read all the reviews on that ‘miracle’ face cream so many are raving about but find isn’t it working for your parched complexion. If you’ve been asking yourself why your skin is still so dry even when you moisturise religiously, something isn’t right, and we are here to tell you what! Keep reading as we explain what you need to do when that moisturiser of yours simply isn’t enough for your dry skin. Properly cleanse your skin morning and night A moisturiser isn’t going to work as well if your face isn’t clean! Moisturisers should be applied to perfectly cleansed skin as they prevent skin from drying out post wash and are actually most effective when applied to slightly damp skin as they seal in moisture.Cleanse skin twice daily, morning and night with a gentle creamy cleanser to wash away the day’s dirt, makeup and grim that can dry out the skin.Try: Pevonia - CleanRefresh™ Foaming Oil CleanserSuitable for all skin types, but especially recommended for dry skin, this innovative, triple duty oil cleanser features an advanced, lipid rich, alcohol-free, soap-free, exclusive formula which transforms into a luscious, foamy cleanser for a truly luxurious cleansing experience. Exfoliate weekly Exfoliation is essential. It will help remove dead skin cell build up that could be blocking your complexion and in turn preventing your moisturiser from properly absorbing into your skin.If your skin is dry exfoliate just once a week and try using a gentle exfoliator formulated with nourishing ingredients. A gentle exfoliant will help remove the dry cell barrier that prevents absorption of moisturising ingredients and will brighten dull skin at the same time.Try Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant. It’s seriously soft, silky and subtle scented plus it’s ideal for all skin types even the most sensitive or dry! It eliminates impurities by gently removing dead skin cells with natural enzymes (so no scrubbing or irritating the skin whatsoever) and naturally encourages cell turnover. The result? Beautifully luminous and youthful skin after every use – no jokes! Always use a serum Serums have multiple benefits but the most important is that they can hydrate more effectively than any moisturiser because the molecules in a serum are able to truly penetrate your skin much deeper than any other skincare product. So, while your moisturiser tends to sit on the skin’s surface nourishing the toy layers, your serum hydrates on the deepest level.Serums do not, however, replace your moisturiser, but instead, when applied prior to your moisturiser, boost its effects and help lock in moisture. Vital for those with dry skin!Try: Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. Featuring one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market (12%), combined with the powerful anti-ageing duo of marine collagen and Hibiscus Esculentus extract, this ultimate serum for seriously thirsty skin, delivers immediate skin soothing results and deep hydration. It eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dry of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. Oh and not only does it help rejuvenate skin cells but will bind any moisturiser you apply on top like a magnet too! Make sure your moisturiser is formulated with skin specific nourishing ingredients A deeply nourishing moisturiser is a must when it comes to a dry complexion but the only way you’ll truly get this is if it’s loaded with specific hydrating ingredients including; Hydration hero Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Glycerin and Squalane.Try: Pevonia Age Defying Marine Collagen Cream. This global best seller is my personal absolute can’t live without product and the no. 1 recommendation of the BC Pros too. It’s a gorgeously rich, yet fine cream – formulated with Squalane, Collagen, Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid – that feels amazing on application and really does leave skin super soft, supple and like it’s had that much-needed boost of moisture, a feeling that lasts all day! Use a facial mist in the morning (and throughout the day) Once you’ve applied your makeup it’s highly unlikely you’d reapply your moisturiser (after all you wouldn’t want to mess up that makeup of yours!) but by spritzing a face mist formulated with extra hydrating ingredients, will help give skin that extra boost of moisture every time you apply it throughout the day.Try: Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist. Formulated with super hydrator hyaluronic acid, this true multi-tasker can be used in the morning to revitalise your senses and replenish the moisture your skin has lost overnight, throughout the day to help your skin stay supple and fresh (or as the perfect pick-me-up), and as a toner to enhance your evening cleanse. What’s more it will actually improve the absorption of your serum and moisturiser optimising the benefits and overall results too! Oh, and it doubles as a finishing or setting spray, locking your makeup in place and increasing its length of wear! At night, lock in moisture with a facial oil Yes, your moisturiser will indeed moisturise your skin but without using a barrier cream or oil, moisture can escape, and skin will become dry again. Face Oils have the ability to help boost your moisturiser’s hydrating efforts by sealing in all the nourishing ingredients, making your skin more likely to hold onto that added hydration. In fact, face oils are integral to healthy skin as without them, moisture just continuously leeches out from the skin until the next time you apply your cream!Try: Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate. It’s a soothing, silky antioxidant oil with the most amazing mandarin aroma, is worth its weight in gold! It’s fast-absorbing and radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning.

How to improve uneven skin texture

by Jo Boyden on Mar 17 2022
Prone to dealing with uneven, bumpy or rough skin? Want to know why? You’re not alone. Although it might not be as talked about as skin conditions like dehydration, hyperpigmentation, and rosacea to name but a few, uneven skin texture is just as common! From large pores, skin laxity, acne scarring, dryness, sun damage and more, here is everything you need to know about this skin condition and how to remedy it according to the BC pros. What causes uneven skin texture exactly? There are a number of factors that can play a role in the cause of uneven skin texture but most commonly it can be the result of dryness or a build-up of excess dead cells on the surface of the skin. This can make skin feel bumpy or rough. In addition, everything from unprotected sun exposure, dehydration, environmental and digital pollution (Blue light rays emitted from our digital devices), seasonal changes as well as natural skin ageing can all affect our skin texture too! Eek. How to get rid of itThe good news is there are certain ways to remedy uneven skin texture! You do need to be religious about it though! Exfoliate to smooth uneven skin out If skin-cell build-up is the issue, remedying the situation could be as simple as sloughing those dead cells away. To improve skin’s texture and ensure its smoothness once again, it’s essential to exfoliate your skin, no question….and do it properly! Exfoliation is imperative because it ensures the removal of any dead skin cells that accumulate on the skin’s surface, exfoliation also penetrates deeper into the skin than your daily cleanser, providing skin with a thorough deep cleanse. Just make sure you're exfoliating twice a week with a dedicated exfoliator. The key is to find an exfoliant that isn’t too harsh on your skin since abrasive exfoliants can cause micro-tears and excess oil production! We love Pevonia’s Best-selling Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser! And use a Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush, specifically targeting the areas that feel uneven.A Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush has many amazing benefits but most importantly it effectively works together with your cleanser to really remove 99.5% of dead skin cell build up on the skin’s surface, preventing further skin problems such as uneven skin texture. It also de-congests clogged pores clearing dirt, oil and sweat and debris and in turn banishing breakouts! And an added bonus is it stimulates circulation and oxygenates the skin resulting in a healthy, radiant complexion. Drink water and lots of it! Yes, yes, we know! We’ve heard it a million times before, but drinking enough water daily is imperative for your skin’s health. In fact, improving skin texture can be as simple as staying hydrated throughout the day since the moisture effectively assists skin in both looking and feeling smoother.Well nourishing skin also tends to lessen the appearance of dryness and dullness which are common symptoms of uneven skin texture. Introduce Vitamin C into your skincare routine Adding Vitamin C to your skincare routine has a multitude of benefits, one being the improvement in your skin texture! It provides a powerful antioxidant to both repair and defend your skin from free radical (environmental) damage (that can lead to uneven skin) while also boosting brightness, reducing the appearance of fine lines, reducing pigmentation, scar tissue and age spots too! So yes, if you want to both help and avoid more skin texture problems in the future, Vitamin C is key!We love Pevonia’s Vitamin C Complexe, Vitamin C and hydration hero hyaluronic acid, work together to quite literally drench skin with repairing antioxidants, deeply nourishing skin while correcting photo-damage. Not only does it have the most beautiful citrus aroma, when applied skin looks instantly brighter and dewier too! Use a daily moisturiser rich in humectants If the skin is dry, it’s important to moisturise every day, morning and night with moisturisers that contain humectants – we’re talking ingredients such as Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid.Humectants are moisturising ingredients that work by drawing water from the atmosphere to hydrate and soften the skin!Try Pevonia’s Best-selling Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream. It’s one of my personal long-time favourites and does wonders for the skin! Rich in Hyaluronic, Glycerin, Marine Collagen and more skin loving goodies, its rich but not too heavy, deeply nourishing and easily absorbs into the skin leaving skin super soft and smoother after every application. And this month (March 2022) if you purchase this hero product, you’ll receive Pevonia’s Hydrating Cleanser and Lotion 50ml for FREE!! Apply a face oil nightly Our skin naturally loses moisture throughout the day. This annoyingly can contribute to signs of aging as well as dryness (which as we now know is one of the main causes of uneven skin texture!) Facial Oils act as amazing moisture barriers for the skin, this means they have the ability to lock moisture into cells, preventing it from escaping into the atmosphere while sealing natural hydrators to improve skin texture. Yes!!We highly recommend Pevonia’s Vitaminic Concentrate, It’s a phenomenal soothing, silky, antioxidant oil with the most amazing mandarin aroma that is worth its weight in gold! It’s fast absorbing and radically combats premature ageing, dehydration and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you will wake up to smooth, supple and seriously glowy skin by morning. Be religious with your sunscreen! Since uneven skin texture is often caused by sun damage, be sure to wear sunscreen every.single.day, no acceptation. Sunscreen doesn’t only help protect your skin from sunburn and premature ageing but will prevent pore enlargement and dark spots too!

6 reasons why you should start using face oils

by Jo Boyden on Nov 11 2021
While they're predominantly known for their hydrating properties, face oils, contrary to popular belief, are not a skincare product designed only for those prone to dry skin! Oh no, they can in fact work wonders on most skin types thanks to their myriad of benefits, and can transform skin from dull to dazzling in next to no time! But don’t just take my word for it, read on as we reveal 6 benefits of face oils and why you need one in your daily routine stat! We’ll also tell you all about our top 6 face oils on BC. Firstly though, you need to understand what exactly a face oil actually is!So what are face oils?Face oils are typically formulated with botanical and essential oils as well as plant extracts and antioxidants. They are designed to soften, nourish and balance your complexion, locking in hydration and providing skin with the additional moisture it needs for a truly glowing complexion. Non-comedogenic, they won’t clog pores and cause breakouts either! Why you would benefit from using a face oil; They are skin protecting Face oils have numerous benefits, but their no. 1 purpose is to serve as an extra level of protection for your skin. Because oils are lipophilic, they have the ability to trap water and other moisturizing goodness in, while keeping toxins and other bad stuff out! Face oils are also considered a type of emollient, which means that unlike creams and serums which sink deep into the dermis (the deeper layers of skin) for intensive long-lasting hydration, oils tend to hang out near the skins surface creating essential skin barrier protection. This is especially important for those of us city slickers who need extra protection against pollutants and smog, one of the main causes of premature ageing after the sun’s harmful rays! Eek. They provide essential nourishment for all skin types While anyone, even those with oily skin, can benefit from facial oils, they can be the ideal remedy for those with dehydrated and dry skin. Not only do they provide nourishment of their own, they also have the ability to help boost your moisturizer’s hydrating efforts by sealing in the hydrating ingredients, making your skin more likely to hold onto that added hydration. In fact, face oils are integral to healthy skin as without them, moisture just continuously leeches out from the skin until the next time you apply your cream! They promote a healthy-looking glow If your skin is looking dull and devitalised a face oil will be your new best friend. As we age our skin produces less natural oil, so adding a facial oil into your daily skincare routine had helped restore essential moisture loss and encourage a youthful, glowy complexion. They can effectively help reduce wrinkles In your late 30s, wrinkles can start to look more obvious because the skin's natural oils decrease, the moisture barrier breaks down, and the skin dries out. Because oils are lipophilic, or fat loving, they pass through the lipid layer of the skin faster, preventing water loss and plumping skin with moisture more effectively. Some facial oils are also packed with antioxidants which have powerful anti-ageing benefits since they help protect the skin's surface from oxidative damage caused by free radicals and environmental aggressors like UV and pollution! So if you are concerned with skin ageing, are prone to dry skin or suffer from sun damage, opt for oils rich in vitamins A and E. They provide antibacterial and skin healing properties Many oils have anti-inflammatory properties and in turn have the ability to decrease inflammation as well as help soothe irritated skin. They can shrink pore size Oils such as jojoba, can actually draw-out grime and fats from pores, making them appear smaller and less noticeable. Our top picksTo learn all about our favourite five face oils click here. Now we’ve established why you should use a face oil in your beauty regime, click here to understand the benefits of serums too!
