Skincare in Your 50s: What Your Skin Really Needs

by Jo Boyden on May 15 2026
Our 40’s and 50’s is a time when our skin starts to change in ways I’m sure you’ve definitely noticed! Between hormonal shifts and a natural slowdown in collagen production, our skin is going through some major transitions right now! You’ve likely noticed your skin is all of a sudden a lot drier than ever before. Loss of firmness and fine lines are a given (why do our faces suddenly appear to droop?!) skin can definitely appear more dull and lacklustre and then there is the lack of “plumpness” (synonymous with younger skin of course). At BC we are often asked what skin really needs at this stage and the truth is simpler than you might think! While we can’t defy ageing, we can absolutely support our skin to help it look and feel healthier, smoother and more radiant too, you just need the right ingredients, consistency and a more targeted routine for mature skin. Keep reading to find out what your skin really needs, as recommended by the BC Pros.   Firstly, why does skin change so much in your 50s? One of the biggest reasons skin changes in your 50s is hormonal fluctuation, particularly during and after menopause. Oestrogen levels decline significantly, and because oestrogen plays such an important role in keeping skin firm, hydrated and resilient, the changes can become quite noticeable. Skin naturally produces less collagen and elastin, meaning it may start to feel thinner, drier and less bouncy than before. Cell turnover slows so radiance declines and the skin barrier becomes more fragile, often leading to increased sensitivity and dehydration too! Great! This is why skincare in our 50s is less about aggressive treatments and more about supporting the skin properly with hydration, nourishment, barrier repair and ingredients that help restore comfort, firmness and glow.   So what does skin in your 50s actually need? 1. Intense moisture (not just hydration) One of the most common complaints during this decade is dryness. Even people who previously had oily or combination skin often notice their complexion suddenly feeling tight, dehydrated or uncomfortable. This is because a drop in estrogen often leads to a decrease in natural oil production and mature skin retains moisture less efficiently than it once did. It’s essential to look for skincare rich in Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides, Squalane and nourishing oils and butters as these ingredients help replenish moisture, support the skin barrier and restore softness and comfort.   2. Support for collagen and firmness We lose about 1% of our collagen every single year starting in our 20s! Eek. But that process accelerates significantly during menopause. This leads to a loss of elasticity and sagging and skin that begins looking thinner seemingly overnight! This is where ingredients like Marine Collagen, Peptides, Retinol and Vitamin C are paramount! They can make a real difference by helping support firmness, elasticity and smoother-looking skin over time.   3. Barrier repair and skin comfort Many women notice their skin becomes far more reactive in their 50s. Products that once worked beautifully may suddenly feel irritating or sensitising. This is usually a sign the skin barrier needs support. Rather than over-exfoliating or using harsh actives, focus on products that calm, replenish and strengthen the skin. Again products rich in ceramides should be your go-to.   4. Gentle exfoliation for radiance Cell turnover slows down as we age, which can leave a layer of dead skin cells on the surface. This is why skin can start to look "grey" or dull. Exfoliation is therefore essential, however, mature skin is also thinner, so harsh scrubs are a no-go! Look for gentle exfoliators that smooth and brighten skin without stripping the skin barrier. Enzyme exfoliators are the best!   5. Brightening agents If you’re seeing "age spots" or uneven pigmentation (very common as we start to reach our 50’s), it’s likely the result of sun exposure from years ago finally coming to the surface. This is when Vitamin C will become your best friend! Other natural ingredients like Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), MADEWHITE™ (Madecassoside), Tranexamic Acid and Arbutin can make a significant difference in fading dark spots too.   6. Targeted Eye Care You’ve hopefully been slapping on the good stuff around your delicate eye area for a few decades now as our eyes are the first place to start really showing signs of ageing so preventative skincare is imperative from as young as our 20’s, but the skin around our eyes often shows the most significant change in our 50s, from hooded lids to deeper "crow’s feet". This is why come your 50’s you need so much more than just a basic eye cream. you’ll want to look for a treatment that offers a "lifting" effect.    7. SPF No matter your age, daily sun protection is essential! In your 50s, it becomes even more important to help protect your skin from further visible signs of ageing, so don’t be complacent, apply that SPF daily (and yes even in winter). The best skincare ingredients for women in their 50’s I’ve already mentioned the ingredients we know are essential for mature skin but here’s a little breakdown of the top 7 so you can see their immediate benefits; Marine Collagen Helps support firmness, softness and elasticity while improving skin comfort and hydration. Retinol (Vitamin A) Boosts collagen, smooths wrinkles, clears pores, and improves skin texture. Hyaluronic Acid One of the best ingredients for mature skin because it helps attract and retain moisture, leaving skin looking plumper and smoother. Vitamin C Brightens dullness, supports collagen production and helps restore radiance to tired-looking skin. Ceramides Essential for strengthening the skin barrier and preventing moisture loss. Peptides Help support firmer, smoother-looking skin by encouraging collagen production.   The skincare routine and products we recommend in your 50s Step 1: Gentle cleansing Avoid harsh cleansers that leave skin feeling tight after washing. Creamy, nourishing cleansers are ideal because they cleanse without disrupting the skin barrier. We highly recommend: Pevonia Power Repair Hydrating Cleanser It’s a global-best seller for Pevonia and for good reason! It’s perfect for all ages, especially older women worried about dryness, dehydration, ageing and sensitivity! It’s gentle, creamy and effectively removes impurities while keeping your skin hydrated, soft and refreshed all at the same time! What’s more its formulated with marine collagen and marine elastin to support skin’s elasticity, suppleness and resilience. Step 2: Vitamin C serum - day A nourishing and brightening serum becomes incredibly important during our 40’s and 50’s! Look for formulas with Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid and antioxidants to help replenish moisture and support skin vitality. We highly recommend: Pevonia ‘C’ Complexe with Oxyzomes Just two pumps of this beautiful creamy serum (with the most divine citrus scent) equals radiant looking skin instantly! Oh, and it feels a-mazing too thanks to its combination of vitamin c and hydrating dynamo hyaluronic which quite literally drenches skin with repairing antioxidants. Step 3: Hydrating moisturiser This is where richer creams really shine. Mature skin often needs creams that provide hydration, lipid and anti-ageing support to help strengthen, smooth and comfort the skin. We highly recommend: Phytomer Expert Youth Wrinkle Plumping Cream This luxurious cream is a powerhouse of marine biotechnology, designed to smooth fine lines, plump the skin, and support firmness throughout the day. Formulated with Red Vegetal Coral and Brown Algae, it works beautifully under makeup and helps defend against visible signs of ageing, all while keeping skin supple and radiant. I personally LOVE it! Step 4: Consistent SPF SPF remains non-negotiable. A huge amount of visible ageing comes from cumulative UV exposure, so protecting the skin daily is one of the best investments you can make. We highly recommend: Hubislab Post Rays UV Protect Sun Block SPF50+ PA+++ This amazing multi-tasking sun block provides complete UV and antioxidant protection for ageing or stressed-out skin! Its non-irritating, has an SPF of 50+ and protects the skin against UV radiation, preventing dryness, dullness and signs of premature ageing including hyperpigmentation. Rich in peptides and collagen it keeps skin nourished, healthy and elastic and the invisible matte formula applies smoothly and stays on all day. With zinc oxide as its main ingredient, there is zero irritation, so it is ideal for all skin types including those with extremely sensitive and/or ageing skin. Step 5: Anti-Ageing Serum – night Night-time is when your skin naturally goes into repair and regeneration mode, making it the perfect time to introduce more intensive nourishing and rejuvenating ingredients. Look for serums containing retinol (Vitamin A), peptides and restorative ingredients that help support collagen production, improve texture and soften the appearance of fine lines over time. We highly recommend: Hubislab MineExo Peptide Ampoule This intensive serum harnesses advanced Exosome Technology and a potent peptide complex to deeply hydrate, firm, and rejuvenate stressed or ageing skin. Also packed with antioxidants like retinol, Vitamin C, and E, hyaluronic acid and hydrolysed collagen, it does it all! It boosts collagen, reduces wrinkles, improves elasticity, and strengthens the skin barrier. It really is outstanding! Step 6: Nourishing Night Cream We all know moisturising in the morning is essential, after all a good day cream acts as a protective barrier, locking in hydration, smoothing the skin, helping sunscreen apply more evenly, and even boosting the staying power of your makeup! But often as we age that moisturiser we use in the day, isn’t enough at night. Night creams tend to be richer in texture and packed with higher concentrations of active ingredients to promote renewal without the interruption of external aggressors. In fact, a good night cream will not only sooth and calm skin while you sleep, but also deliver lasting moisture while addressing common skin concerns such as moisture loss and skin ageing! They also help by improving cell turnover and lock in all the goodness of the serum you just applie! Night creams in your 50’s should focus on nourishment, comfort and skin barrier support while helping improve firmness and visible signs of ageing We highly recommend: Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream Beautifully silky and ultra-comforting, this skin-replenishing formula is enriched with marine extracts that help detoxify, firm, and deeply nourish the skin overnight. It literally cocoons skin while you sleep working to reduce signs of fatigue, improve elasticity and bring back your glow by morning, seriously! It’s formulated with the best in marine ingredients including D-Tox Microalgae (designed to promote the elimination of free radicals, toxins, and pollutants detoxifying the skin while you sleep), and Marine Mannitol (an active ingredient which helps to re-oxygenate tired and "asphyxiated" cells) as well as Laminaria Digitata Extract, Salicornia Herbacea Extract and Jojoba & Sunflower Seed Wax to deeply nourish, revitalise and strengthen the skin! Both my colleagues and I simply love how it makes our skin look and feel when we wake (I’m talking glowy, plumper and just more youthful looking!) The biggest skincare mistake people make in their 50s The biggest skincare mistake so many of us make in our 50’s is trying to treat our skin the same way they treated it in their 30s and 40s. But what worked previously may now feel too harsh, drying or aggressive. Skin in our 50s generally responds much better to consistency, nourishment and barrier support than overly complicated routines packed with strong actives!  Remember more isn’t always better. And with the right care, your skin can still look incredibly luminous, healthy and vibrant for decades to come.
8 ingredients your sensitive skin should avoid

8 ingredients your sensitive skin should avoid

by Jo Boyden on Mar 31 2026
If you have sensitive skin, you already know it can feel like everything is a potential trigger. That new “gentle, nourishing, and dermatologist-tested” product that sounded so ideal for your easily irritated complexion, turned out to be not-so-gentle after all, leaving you with a red, stinging face! The thing is, sensitive skin is often the result of a thinner or compromised skin barrier. This means irritants, allergens, and harsh actives can sneak in far more easily than they would for someone with a more resilient complexion. What makes it even trickier is that the culprits aren’t always obvious. In fact, many of the ingredients most likely to trigger sensitivity are hiding in plain sight! Even in products marketed specifically for "sensitive" skin! That’s why becoming confident at reading ingredient labels is one of the most valuable skincare skills you can have. Knowing what to leave out of your routine is just as important as knowing what to include. And once you understand which ingredients tend to cause trouble, caring for sensitive skin becomes so much easier, we promise! To help you shop smarter and keep your complexion calm, we’ve rounded up the top ingredient’s experts agree sensitive skin should always avoid.   What your sensitive skin really means Sensitive skin isn’t just a “type”, it’s a condition. At its core, it usually comes down to a compromised skin barrier, which means your skin isn’t as strong or resilient as it should be. As a result, it reacts more easily to ingredients, environmental stress, and even changes in routine. This is why products that work beautifully for others can cause redness, stinging, breakouts, or inflammation for you. The goal with sensitive skin isn’t to overload it with actives, it’s to protect, strengthen, and support it!   The 8 ingredients to avoid From strong fragrances to overly drying alcohols, there are a few common ingredients that can make sensitive skin worse without you realising it. 1. Fragrance (synthetic & natural) Fragrance is one of the most common triggers for sensitive skin and one of the easiest to overlook! It’s often listed as “parfum” or “aroma” and can even include essential oils. Why avoid it:Fragrance can cause irritation, redness, and allergic reactions, especially with repeated use. Even natural fragrance isn’t always gentle on reactive skin.   2. Denatured alcohol (Alcohol Denat.) Not all alcohols are bad but denatured alcohol is one your skin could definitely do without! Why avoid it:It strips the skin of its natural oils, weakens the barrier, and can leave your skin feeling tight, dry, and more prone to irritation.   3. Essential Oils While they sound calming and natural, essential oils can be surprisingly reactive for sensitive skin. Why avoid them:Ingredients like citrus oils, peppermint, and eucalyptus can trigger redness and sensitivity, particularly in already compromised skin.   4. Exfoliating acids (overuse of AHAs/BHAs) Exfoliation is important, we know this but with sensitive skin, more is definitely not more! Why be cautious:Over-exfoliating can damage the skin barrier, leading to increased redness, irritation, and sensitivity. Strong acids or frequent use can quickly tip your skin out of balance. To read about exfoliation and sensitive skin and what you should do, click here.   5. Sulphates (SLS & SLES) These are commonly found in cleansers and are responsible for that foamy, “squeaky clean” feeling. Why avoid them:They can be overly stripping, removing essential moisture and leaving the skin barrier vulnerable and irritated, not good when you already have a compromised skin barrier!   6. Strong retinol and retinoids Retinol and retinoids can be outstanding when it comes to ageing but are very powerful! Therefore, they need to be approached very carefully if your skin is sensitive. Why be cautious:They can cause peeling, dryness, and irritation, particularly if introduced too quickly or used in high strengths. For everything you need to know about retinol and sensitive skin click here. And if retinol still scares you, here are some outstanding alternatives for your sensitive skin.   7. High-Concentration Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) Vitamin C is a glow-boosting favourite, but not all forms are suitable for sensitive skin. Why be cautious:High concentrations can be too stimulating, leading to stinging and redness. Gentler derivatives are often a better option. Look for vitamin C serums formulated with a gentle derivative such as sodium ascorbyl phosphate, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate or Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, these vitamin C forms are considered more stable and less irritating. 8. Artificial Colours & Dyes These are often added purely for aesthetic reasons — and your skin doesn’t need them. Why avoid them:They offer no skin benefit and can increase the risk of irritation or allergic reactions.   What skincare ingredients your sensitive skin does need Instead of focusing only on what to avoid, it’s equally important to prioritise ingredients that will support and strengthen your skin barrier. These include; Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) Niacinamide enhances the skin’s natural barrier by increasing the production of ceramides, which are essential for locking in moisture and protecting the skin from environmental stressors. Niacinamide is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties, making it a great choice for those with sensitive, rosacea or acne-prone skin. It helps to calm redness and irritation, leading to a clearer, more even complexion. Ceramides When you suffer from sensitive or easily reactive skin, ceramides can be especially beneficial. They help to protect, repair and strengthen your skins barrier, shielding it from external aggressors such as harsh weather conditions, bacteria and pollutants. This helps reduce skin redness, irritation and sensitivity. Ceramides also help your skin hold onto moisture. They act like little sponges, preventing water loss and keeping your skin hydrated and plump! Hyaluronic acid Hyaluronic acid is a powerful hydrating ingredient that attracts and retains moisture within the skin. For sensitive skin, maintaining hydration is key to keeping the barrier strong and functioning optimally. By drawing water into the skin, it helps to reduce dryness, tightness and discomfort, leaving the complexion feeling soft, smooth and comfortably hydrated without causing irritation. Panthenol (Vitamin B5) Panthenol is a deeply soothing and restorative ingredient that works to calm irritation while supporting the skin’s natural repair process. It helps to strengthen the skin barrier, improve hydration levels, and reduce redness, making it particularly beneficial for compromised or reactive skin. It also leaves the skin feeling soft, supple, and more resilient over time. Calming botanicals (like White Water Lily (Nymphaea Alba), Chamomile, Centella Asiatica, Cucumber & Aloe Vera) Calming botanicals are essential for soothing sensitive skin and reducing visible signs of irritation. Ingredients such as White Water Lily, centella asiatica, chamomile, and aloe vera work to gently calm inflammation, minimise redness, and provide lightweight hydration. They help restore balance to the skin, leaving it feeling comforted, refreshed, and more stable.   All these ingredients help calm irritation, restore hydration, and build resilience over time.   A few of our favourites for sensitive skin: Pevonia Sensitive Skin Cleanser Packed with chamomile and other soothing botanicals, this natural cleanser specifically designed to gently cleanse sensitive skin, is both calming and comforting. It’s non-irritating formula effectively removes impurities, excess oil, and makeup without stripping the skin or disrupting its barrier. While it’s soft, creamy texture leaves skin feeling clean, hydrated, and perfectly balanced, never tight or dry! “I suddenly developed sensitive skin and switched from my harsh exfoliating cleansers and toners to Pevonia products. It is amazing for sensitive, reactive, fragile and compromised skin and not only soothes any redness but strengthens your skin’s barrier making it more resilient in the future and it helps preserve a more youthful complexion too. It’s formulated with the trusty panthenol and ceramides (1, 3, 6 & II) and when used at night will have you waking up to calm, nourished, and beautifully refreshed skin. “I LOVE this cream. It was calm and soothing exactly as the name suggests. Easy to use, contains plenty of product that you can massage in afterwards. Leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated.” - Tanya Oliver And finally to read all about our favourite exfoliator for sensitive skin click here.   When it comes to your sensitive skin, less is often more! With the right approach, sensitive skin doesn’t have to mean reactive skin. It can be calm, balanced, and beautifully healthy.
Retinol and sensitive skin: Everything you need to know

Retinol and sensitive skin: Everything you need to know

by Jo Boyden on Feb 14 2025
If you’re wanting to try retinol since you’d heard it’s the anti-ageing powerhouse, but you’re worried about it exacerbating your sensitive skin, you are not alone. While this ingredient is renowned for its age defying and skin renewing abilities (and for very good reason!) it can also be too strong for those prone to redness, irritation or even dryness. But does this mean you should avoid retinol altogether? Definitely not! With the right approach, even sensitive skin types can reap the benefits of this skincare superstar! The key to retinol and your skin is choosing the right product – not every retinol product is created equal! You also need to know what to pair retinol with when it comes to your skincare routine to keep your skin happy! Whether you’re looking to fight fine lines, improve your skin’s texture, fade dark spots, or all of the above! Keep reading for everything you need to know about retinol and the best tips for sensitive skin.   What is retinol? Retinol is one of the most powerful proven ingredients in skincare, the “holy grail” when it comes to anti-ageing or so the beauty experts say! Retinol is actually a form of Vitamin A that works by speeding up cell turnover, essentially encouraging our skin to shed old, damaged cells and replace them with fresh healthy ones!   What makes retinol so effective? Retinol is a true multi-tasker! It has been proven to smooth fine lines, fade dark spots and improve skin texture. Its key benefits include; Retinol stimulates collagen production keeping skin firm and youthful. It unclogs pores, reducing breakouts, making it effective for acne-prone skin.   Retinol is a champion in tackling hyperpigmentation. It can lighten dark spots, sun spots, and even out skin tone by inhibiting the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for discolouration. It works deep within the skin to enhance radiance and even out tone.  Sounds amazing right? The catch? Retinol can be a little too powerful for some, especially those with sensitive or reactive skin.   Why does retinol irritate sensitive skin? Retinol’s fast-paced cell renewal can cause temporary dryness, redness, and flaking, a process often called the “retinol purge.” As it penetrates the skin, retinol stimulates collagen production and exfoliation, but for those with a weaker skin barrier, this process can be too harsh, causing irritation and inflammation. Retinol also reduces oil production, which can lead to dehydration, making sensitive skin feel even more fragile. But don’t worry! With the right formula and technique, you can build up your skin’s tolerance while still enjoying all of retinol’s anti-ageing and skin-smoothing benefits!   How to use retinol if you have sensitive skin 1. Choose the right retinol strength Not all retinol products are created equal. If you have sensitive skin, start with: Encapsulated retinol as it slowly releases into the skin, reducing irritation. Low-strength retinol gentle enough to introduce gradually. 2. Start slow because less really is more Think of retinol like a workout for your skin, you don’t start with heavy weights on day one! Apply a pea-sized amount just 1-2 times a week at first. If your skin tolerates it slowly increase frequency. 3. Apply retinol at night Unfortunately, when it comes to retinol, exposure to sunlight can significantly degrade its effectiveness making it less potent, this is because UV rays break down the retinol molecule rendering it less able to work on your skin. More importantly retinol makes the skin more sensitive to sunlight increasing the risk of redness, irritation and sun damage. As previously mentioned, retinol works by accelerating cell turnover, which means fresh new skin cells are more exposed and vulnerable to UV rays. Therefore, it's best to apply retinol at night! By doing so the ingredient can go to work undisturbed, maximizing its benefits and promoting skin repair while you sleep! 3. Always use a moisturiser Hydration is key to reducing irritation. If it’s just a retinol cream you are using, apply it to your skin at night and use a nourishing moisturiser rich in hyaluronic acid in the morning. If it’s a just retinol serum you’re looking to apply, make sure you use a good moisturiser both morning and night. By applying a thin layer of moisturiser before and after your retinol serum will help buffer its potency while still delivering results. 4. Never skip SPF! Retinol makes your skin more sensitive to the sun, so daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ is non-negotiable. Without it, you risk undoing all the benefits by exposing fresh skin to UV damage. 5. Watch for signs of overuse If you notice excessive peeling, stinging, or irritation, take a break and focus on repairing your skin barrier with ceramides, niacinamide, and hydrating serums.   How long does retinol take to work? Results from retinol skincare can vary. Some people may notice improvements in a few weeks, days even, while others might take a couple of months. Generally, it takes at least 12 weeks to see significant changes in terms of reduced fine lines, improved texture, and diminished dark spots. Consistency is key, and it's crucial to be patient as the benefits of retinol often accumulate over time. Once you see results you will never look back!   What ingredients can you pair with retinol without irritation? To minimise irritation while using retinol, pair it with hydrating and soothing ingredients that strengthen the skin barrier. Some great options include: Hyaluronic Acid – Deeply hydrates and prevents drynessNiacinamide – Calms redness, reduces sensitivity, and strengthens the skin barrierCeramides – Restore moisture and reinforce skin’s protective barrierPeptides – Support collagen production and repair the skinSqualane – Provides lightweight hydration without clogging poresCentella Asiatica (Cica) – Soothes inflammation and promotes healingAloe Vera – Hydrates and reduces irritation Avoid pairing retinol with strong exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs) to prevent excessive irritation.   The best retinol products for sensitive skin We highly recommend Pevonia’s Micro-Retinol® range. Every product in the range which includes Micro-Retinol® Foaming Cleanser, Micro-Retinol® Essential Toner, Micro-Retinol® Serum and Micro-Retinol® Essential Moisturiser utilizes a specialized technology to create Retinol micro-particles that get delivered deep into the epidermis. This means complete product absorption, no skin irritation, and immediate results! It’s a great, safe, and side-effect free alternative to using prescription Retinoic Acid. What’s more, every product in the Micro-Retinol® line contains a powerhouse trio of carefully combined Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Micro-Retinol®! The addition of Vitamin C and E not only ensures Micro-Retinol®’s stability, but also that the skin’s nutrients and density are renewed and preserved!   Just remember with a little patience and the right approach, your skin will thank you for introducing this anti-ageing wonder ingredient into your skincare routine.

Why you need to use a night cream and the best ones for you

Why you need to use a night cream and the best ones for you

by Jo Boyden on Oct 25 2024
Ever wonder why your skin feels tired, dull, or even dry in the morning? The answer may lie in what you're missing at night! While you sleep, your skin enters repair mode, making it the perfect time to give it a little extra help with a night cream. These creams are designed to deeply nourish, hydrate, and rejuvenate your skin while you rest, so you wake up with a fresher, more radiant complexion. Keep reading as we explain why exactly it is that you should introduce a night cream to your routine if you haven’t already, and the best ones for your skin.   Why you need a night cream During the day, our skin battles environmental stressors like pollution, UV rays, blue light damage from our digital devices and for many of us makeup too, which can lead to premature ageing and other skin issues over time. But at night, while you sleep, your skin’s natural repair process kicks in, working to heal any damage and regenerate cells. Amazing right? Well a night cream can boost this process, leaving you with a smoother, more radiant complexion by morning.   But why not simply use your day moisturiser instead of a night cream you might ask? Unlike daytime moisturisers, which mainly focus on hydration and protection, night creams are packed with a multitude of richer, more potent ingredients from hyaluronic acid, to peptides, ceramides, niacinamide and more, that work together to enhance skin renewal and elasticity, target fine lines, as well as restore moisture levels. They are also formulated with active ingredients like retinol that works best when you’re sleeping. These ingredients promote cell turnover, smooth fine lines, and prevent early signs of ageing. Therefore if you skip this imperative step in your routine at night, you’re missing out on some of the most intense repair and hydration your skin can get! Night creams are also formulated to penetrate deeper into your skin providing intense hydration that lasts throughout the night!   How to choose the best night cream? Not all night creams are created equal! Just with your day creams, the best one for you depends on your skin type and concerns. If you’re battling dryness, look for rich, creamy formulations rich in hyaluronic acid or ceramides for deep hydration. For anti-ageing, opt for formulas with retinol or peptides to firm and smooth your skin. If brightening is your goal, night creams with vitamin C or niacinamide work wonders for evening out your complexion and reducing dark spots. And if you are worried about blemishes and acne marks, choose something with niacinamide and tea tree oil.   How often should you use a night cream? For the best results, you should be using a night cream every night after cleansing your skin. You can also use it over one or more serums as a night cream will lock in the benefits while retaining moisture in the skin.   Our top night cream recommendations; Best for Dry Skin Phytomer Hydrasea Night Plumping Rich Cream This gorgeously nourishing comfort cream literally envelopes the skin immediately restoring the skin barrier and locking in moisture leaving your skin feeling soft and supple by morning. Night after night, skin appears more plumped and revitalised.  1 review   Best for dull skin Vie Collection Night Peel Progressive Resurfacing Cream This ultra-soft night version of the chemical peel is a modern balm with a creamy texture that offers complete exfoliation to the skin, helping to brighten, refine and improve smoothness for a younger-looking complexion. Its formula is enriched with benchmark acids and has a progressive diffusion to act continuously all through the night. Each morning the complexion appears more luminous and even. After one month the skin looks renewed. Seriously.   Best for ageing skin Pevonia Micro Retinol Essential Moisturiser This light and gentle moisturiser increases cell turnover, stimulates collagen and elastin production (essential for youthful, plump skin), fades hyperpigmentation and helps skin stay hydrated and glowing without irritation. It’s a multi-tasking wonder! You should introduce it slowly though. This is because retinol makes your skin more sensitive to UV rays and sunlight decreases the efficacy of the product, hence why its such an essential night cream. Best for hyperpigmented skin Hubislab Derma Max Brightening Clinic This deeply moisturising night cream formulated with tranexamic acid, antioxidants and vitamins, nourishes the skin whilst soothing irritation, improving elasticity, correcting pigmentation and brightening the complexion all whilst you sleep! Skin in need of nourishment? These are the best products

Skin in need of nourishment? These are the best products

by Jo Boyden on Jul 26 2024
Feeling like your parched skin could do with a little extra love but not sure where to start? Whether your skin’s need for that boost of nourishment is due to stress, lack of sleep, or perhaps it’s the current cold weather that’s causing havoc with your complexion, we are here to help! Keep reading as we round up the best nourishing skincare products. 8 products that will turn your skin from dehydrated to gorgeously glowy in little to no time. Firstly though why are you currently dealing with a parched complexion? Your skin may be feeling particularly dry or dehydrated at the moment due to a combination of environmental, lifestyle, or health factors. Here are the most common causes: Environmental Factors Seasonal Changes: Cold weather and low humidity levels during winter can suck the life out of our already depleted complexion stripping moisture from our skin, leading to dryness. Indoor Heating: Having the heating pumping 24/7 (I know I’m guilty of this!) can reduce indoor humidity, further dehydrating our skin. Sun Exposure: Even in colder months, UV rays can damage our skin and deplete its moisture levels so make sure you are wearing your sunscreen daily! Lifestyle Factors Hydration: Let’s face it, many of us get a little lazy when it comes to rehydrating ourselves during the colder months but not drinking enough water can (and will!) lead to dehydrated skin. Diet: A diet lacking in essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants can impact our skin's ability to retain moisture so make sure you stock up on your leafy greens, berries and fatty fish. Hot Showers: Who doesn’t love a long hot shower in the morning (and evening!) when its cold outside but believe me when I say by doing so you will strip your skin of its natural oils, causing dryness. Lack of Sleep: Inadequate sleep can lead to a decrease in blood circulation, making the skin look pale and tired. During sleep, the skin repairs and regenerates, so lack of sleep can hinder this process. Stress: Chronic stress can lead to hormonal imbalances that affect the skin, potentially causing issues like acne, dryness, and dullness. Skincare Routine Harsh Cleansers: Using cleansers that contain alcohol or other harsh ingredients can strip your skin of its natural oils, so be vigilant about what you are putting on your skin! Lack of Moisturiser: Skipping moisturiser or using one that isn’t hydrating enough can leave your skin feeling dry. This is why we are here to help! Over-Exfoliation: Exfoliating too often can damage your skin's protective barrier, leading to moisture loss. Best to stick to exfoliating once or twice a week. Health Factors Age: Unfortunately as we age our skin not only reduces its production of collagen and elastin, but it also produces less oil too, making it more prone to dryness. Medical Conditions: Conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and hypothyroidism can cause dry skin. Medications: And if you happen to be taking certain medications right now (and that includes diuretics and acne treatments) they too can have drying effects on the skin. The best products to rejuvenate and nourish your dry and dehydrated skin Now for the products that can really help! CLEANSER: Pevonia Hydrating Cleanser Why it’s great: Everyone needs a good daily cleanser in their skincare collection and this cleanser is the one that keeps topping our favourites list year after year. How to use: Use it every morning and evening by applying a small quantity all over your face and neck and working with wet fingertips. Remove with a washcloth or a sponge wet with warm water and towel dry. Follow with Hydrating Lotion for optimal results! TONER: Pevonia Hydrating Toner Why it’s great: This nourishing toner beautifully balances skins pH while removing any residual impurities after cleansing. It also perfectly preps the skin for better absorption of that much needed serum and moisturiser to follow! Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice, and Vitamin E combine to hydrate and revive the skin. The ultimate skincare routine for sensitive skin

The ultimate skincare routine for sensitive skin

by Jo Boyden on Jul 04 2024
If you have sensitive skin, you’ll know how challenging it can be to find the right skincare products that actually work and don’t just exacerbate your already inflamed skin! Redness, irritation, and dryness can make it seem next to impossible to achieving that calm, radiant complexion you so wish for, but impossible it is not! With the right approach and gentle products, you can soothe your sensitive skin and maintain its overall health. Keep reading for our guide to the ultimate skincare routine for sensitive skin. A guide we’ve tailored just for you, featuring must-have products and tips to keep your sensitive skin happy and healthy. Firstly though, why are you suffering from sensitive skin? Unfortunately sensitive skin can be caused by a variety of factors. It might be due to genetics (thanks mum and dad!), making your skin more reactive to certain triggers. Environmental factors such as pollution, extreme weather conditions, and exposure to harsh chemicals can also contribute. Over exfoliated skin or simply overuse of skincare products, especially those with strong fragrances or alcohol, can strip the skin's natural barrier, leading to sensitivity. Stress and hormonal changes can also play a significant role, disrupting the skin's balance. Additionally, underlying skin conditions like eczema or rosacea can cause heightened sensitivity. It’s best to try and identify and avoid your triggers (along with using gentle skincare products) to help manage your sensitive skin. The best skincare routine for sensitive skin Step 1: Start with a Gentle Cleanser The first step in any skincare routine is cleansing, but for sensitive skin, it's crucial to use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser that doesn’t strip away natural oils. Opt for a fragrance-free, non-foaming cleanser with soothing and healing ingredients like aloe vera, glycerin, niacinamide and chamomile. Try: Naturys 2 in 1 Makeup Remover + Micellar Gel. Formulated with nasturtium and niacinamide, this natural 2-in-1 cleanser and makeup remover is good or all skin types but has been specifically targeted for sensitive skin. Gently but effectively it removes makeup, dirt and impurities from face and eyes without causing any irritation or dryness, leaving skin instantly fresh, soothed and more supple. How to Use: Use your fingertips to apply the cleanser and gently massage onto your face in circular motions. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry with soft towel to avoid further irritation. Step 2: Hydrating Oil Oils are like potent treatments that target specific concerns deeply nurturing the skin. For sensitive skin, choose an oil that focuses on hydration and calming effects. Try: Naturys Sensitive Hydra Oil. This quick-absorbing soothing face oil is particularly suitable for sensitive skin types and is the best ally against skin redness and irritation, signs of stress, pollution and blue light. Rich in plant-based active ingredients, including blueberry oil, bisabolol, and lycopene, it protects skin from environmental damage while diffusing redness and discomfort. How to Use: Apply a few drops to clean, dry or slightly damp face and neck, gently patting it into your skin until fully absorbed. Can be used alone or mixed with your moisturiser. Step 3: Moisturiser Moisturising is essential for locking in hydration and protecting your skin barrier. Choose a moisturiser that is free from fragrances, dyes, and other potential irritants and instead opt for nourishing, soothing ingredients that will hydrate, calm and improve skin. Try: Naturys De-Sensitive Cream. The perfect antidote for reactive and dehydrated skin prone to redness, this beautifully nourishing cream effectively calms skin while combatting redness. Copper Tripeptides also help promote collagen and elastin production, firming the skin and reducing fine lines while increasing oxygen supply for more supple skin. How to Use: Apply the moisturiser to your face and neck, gently massaging it in until fully absorbed. Step 4: Sunscreen Sunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine. But sadly sensitive skin is particularly vulnerable to sun damage so sunscreen is a must. Sensitive skin needs broad-spectrum protection without harsh chemicals. A mineral-based sunscreen is less likely to irritate and provides effective protection. Look for ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Try: Hubislab Post Rays UV Protect Sun Block SPF 50+++. Not only is it formulated with both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide so perfect for sensitive and ageing skin since zero irritation, it’s also rich in hydrolyzed Collagen and peptides keeping skin nourished, soft and supple! Its invisible matte formula also applies smoothly and stays on all day long! How to Use: Apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your face and neck every morning, even on cloudy days. Step 5: Weekly Treatment – Exfoliator A weekly treatment like an exfoliator can provide essential extra care for sensitive skin. And I know you might be thinking exfoliating sounds counterintuitive, after all you don’t want to exacerbate your already irritated skin, right? The thing is exfoliating is essential for everyone, no matter your skin type. Why? Because it removes dulling dead skin cells, prevents clogged pores and encourages cell turnover, you just have to be careful what sort of exfoliator you use! Try: Naturys Sensitive Enzymatic Peeling Cream. Formulated for all skin types including those suffering with common skin sensitivities, this exfoliant and regenerating cream gently removes dead cells and unclogs the pores without causing any irritation. As you work the cream into your skin, the pineapple and papaya enzymes, combined with AHAs and rice microgranules, gently but deeply exfoliate skin eliminating impurities, blackheads, dead cells, sebum and toxins. Your complexion after? Softer, smoother, calmer and brighter! How to Use: Apply the peel 1-2 times a week onto the face and delicately massage. Leave on for 5-7 minutes and rinse with warm water. Avoid the eye contours. Additional tips for sensitive skin Patch Test New Products: Always test new products on a small area of your skin before applying them to your entire face to ensure you don’t have an adverse reaction. Avoid Harsh Ingredients: Steer clear of products with alcohol, fragrances, and harsh exfoliants. Look for labels that indicate "hypoallergenic" and "non-comedogenic." Stay Hydrated and Maintain a Healthy Diet: Drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants can help support your skin's health. Remember taking care of sensitive skin doesn’t have to be daunting. By following this ultimate skincare routine and using gentle, effective products, you can reduce irritation, strengthen your skin barrier, and achieve a calm, radiant complexion. Remember consistency and patience are key!

Ceramides: Everything you need to know

by Jo Boyden on Oct 05 2023
If you’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about ceramides but wondering what they actually are you’ve come to the right place.Unlike your hero ingredients hyaluronic acid, retinol, vitamin c, collagen and more, ceramides are the unsung heroes of the skincare world, quietly working behind the scenes to keep your skin healthy, hydrated and protected! Whether you have dry skin, sensitive skin or just want to maintain your skins natural glow, ceramides will be a valuable addition to your skincare arsenal. But before we talk about the best ceramide skincare, we need to understand what ceramides actually are and how they will help your skin. What are ceramides?Ceramides are natural lipids (fats) found naturally in high concentration in the cell membranes within our epidermis (the top 5 layers of our skin), however, ceramides are especially concentrated in the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the epidermis.) Think of this layer as your skin’s protective barrier. How do ceramides help our skin? Barrier protection Ceramides help to protect and strengthen your skins barrier, shielding it from external aggressors such as harsh weather conditions, bacteria and pollutants. This helps reduce skin redness, irritation and sensitivity. Moisture retention Ceramides help your skin hold onto moisture. They act like little sponges, preventing water loss and keeping your skin hydrated and plump. Skin Conditions If you suffer from skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, ceramides can be especially beneficial. They help repair the damaged skin barrier, reducing inflammation and irritation. Anti-Ageing As we age, ceramide levels in our skin dramatically decrease, leading to dryness and fine lines. Using ceramide-infused products can help counteract these effects, leaving your skin looking more youthful.Using skincare rich in ceramides, or products formulated with ingredients that stimulate ceramide production can help counteract these effects. These products can help improve skin health, boost hydration, protect against harmful UV rays, rejuvenate skin and boost barrier function. Just remember no ceramides? Nothing to keep all those hydrating ingredients from evaporating from the skin. You'll usually find ceramides in moisturisers, but you also can find them as a key ingredient in cleansers, serums, and other skin-care products too! Here are our top five ceramide rich skincare favourites. From Dry to Dewy: The best skincare routine for Dry Skin

by Jo Boyden on Jul 20 2023
Whether you love or loathe cold, winter weather, there is no mistaking the havoc it can cause on our skin. Ever dealt with (or perhaps currently experiencing) dry, flaky patches? Tightness even? Or perhaps it’s a dull lacklustre complexion you have become accustomed too of late! Well, we are here to tell you how you can transform that dry skin of yours to deliciously dewy in next to no time. All you need to do is follow the right skincare routine for dry skin! And stick to it daily. Morning skincare routine for dry skinWhen it comes to the best skincare routine for dry skin, the products you use in the morning will differ from those you apply at night. First and foremost you want to make sure you build a skincare routine rich in moisture, you need to rehydrate that parched skin of yours, but you want to ensure you then keep it nourished and hydrated too!Step 1 - Hydrating CleanserThe first step in any skincare routine is cleansing, but for us dry-skin folks, it's essential to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser. Look for cleansers with a creamy or oil-based formula that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Harsh, foaming cleansers can be our arch-nemesis, so avoid those like the plague!Try Pevonia Hydrating Cleanser. Thanks to its outstanding combination of marine collagen, marine elastin, hyaluronic acid and glycerin, this nourishing, creamy textured cleanser thoroughly removes skin impurities and excess oil without any residue, all whilst helping to preserve your skin’s moisture too!N.B Exfoliation is essential too as you’ll want to rid your skin of any lingering dry, dead, skin cells to make way for the healthy, new cells patiently waiting underneath! How often you exfoliate will depend on the sensitivity of your skin though, so best to start with once a week and use a gentle exfoliating cleanser. This will keep skin brighter and balanced (without stripping away moisture) and will also assist in products such as your serum being able to fully penetrate your skin for optimal end results.Step 2 - Hyaluronic Acid SerumYou might we wondering if you really need a serum in your skincare routine because doesn’t your moisturiser offer enough nourishment? Well I’m here to tell you how necessary a serum really is! Serums are like a shot for the skin. Firstly they tend to perform above and beyond many regular skincare products, this is because they are developed with a higher concentration of targeted active ingredients. Secondly, the purpose of a serum is to target a specific concern. In our case dryness!Incorporate a hyaluronic acid serum into your morning skincare routine, and your skin will thank you for it! Believe me. Hyaluronic acid is a dry-skin superhero! This moisture-binding ingredient can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, leaving your skin feeling hydrated and plump.Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. The ultimate for seriously thirsty skin, this serum eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dehydrated of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. By adding moisture back into your skin, this serum immediately boosts skin’s suppleness and combats ageing in multiple ways thanks to its skin-plumping properties.Step 3 - Eye CreamIf you have dry skin, it's essential not to forget to incorporate an eye cream into your daily routine. The skin around the eye is some of the most delicate on the body, so it needs that little extra TLC that your moisturiser can not provide. In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage. While you might think your moisturiser will suffice, you’d be wrong! Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients to the skin, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose. Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia. A hydrating eye cream can help prevent dryness, nourish already present crepiness, and combat signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, undereye puffiness and dark circles! Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, vitamin c, shea butter, collagen and vitamin B as they will help restore the delicate skin and retain moisture.Try Pevonia Evolutive Eye Cream. This anti-ageing eye cream deeply nourishes and renews the delicate under eye area in multiple ways. Formulated with a powerful blend of anti-agers including hyaluronic acid, vitamin A and glycolic acid, it firms, smooths and hydrates dry, crepey skin.Step 4 - Nourishing MoisturiserA moisturiser not only infuses your skin with hydration but also helps trap in all of the products underneath it to make the ingredients even more effective. When it comes to dry skin, a super nourishing moisturiser rich in specific ingredients such as shea butter, ceramides, glycerin, natural oil (think avocado, jojoba, or rosehip) and hyaluronic acid is a must! It’ll help replenish your skin with the nourishment it craves.Try Phytomer Nutritionnelle Dry Skin Rescue Cream – this is a salvation for even the driest skin, bringing comfort, hydration and protection. Step 5 - SunscreenSunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine, regardless of skin type. Sun damage is the no. 1 cause of premature ageing so what’s the point of spending money on all those anti-ageing skincare products if you undo all the good by not being religious with your sunscreen application! Protecting your skin from sun damage will make all your other skin care products more effective!Choose a lightweight sunscreen that won't clog pores or cause breakouts. Go for a chemical or mineral sunscreen of at least SPF 30 (preferably 50). Sun damage can worsen dryness, so don't forget this crucial step, even on cloudy days.Try ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50+ It’s super lightweight and full of great ingredients that prevent hyper-pigmentation and dehydration. It also gives you a bit of glow which is a bonus that many sunscreens don’t provide.Step 6 - Facial MistFor that extra boost of cooling hydration and to lock in all those skincare ingredients throughout the day a facial mist is a must!Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist This product is a dream. It provides the perfect spritz to replenish tired, dry or tight skin. As well as Hyaluronic Acid, it’s formulated with a blend of ultra-calming Chamomile, Aloe, Green Tea and aromatic essential oils, making this powerhouse product ideal for all skin types, especially dehydrated, irritated, and ageing skin! However should your skin be on the sensitive side, a little itchy or irritated even, it will work its magic to calm, nurture and alleviate too. Night skincare routine for dry skin Step 1 - CleanserFirst thing you’ll likely want to do (and should do) after a long day is remove the days makeup and grime from your face with a good cleanser or face wash. Should you wish to double cleanse, you can do that too!Try using an oil cleanser first followed by a cream cleanser to refresh your skin and leave a dewy finish.Step 2 - Hydrating TonerFollow your face wash with a hydrating toner. Unfortunately, toners are often the forgotten skincare product, usually because people don’t understand their purpose, but they are in fact an essential product in any skincare routine! Why? Because a good toner will not only remove any excess makeup and grime that your cleanser might have missed but it will also prep your skin for the goodness that follows (we are talking ingredients in the rest of your skin care routine!) The best toner for dry skin will pump up hydration but also restore skin, balance pH too.Opt for an alcohol-free, hydrating toner that contains ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin to lock in moisture as well as plump up your skin. Pat it on gently with your hands or use a soft cotton pad.Try Pevonia Hydrating Toner – Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice, and Vitamin E, it works to hydrate, revive and fully refresh the skin. Great for anyone with worried about ageing, dehydration or devitalised skin. Step 3 – face mask With so many steps in your daily skincare routine, you might be wondering if masking is really another necessary step, after all, what more can this product do for your skin that your cleanser, toner, exfoliator, serum and moisturiser hasn’t already done? Well, the answer to that is a lot actually! Face masks are in fact an essential part of any skin care routine, and for very good reason. Not only do they help protect your skin from environmental pollutants and other irritants, but they also help to keep skin looking and feeling healthy. They are also a great way to give your skin a boost of nourishment and help to target any skin concerns you may have too., dry skin in this case!Treat yourself to a hydrating face mask once or twice a week. Sheet masks, gel masks and cream masks formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and jojoba oil can work wonders for dry skin. Sit back, relax, and let the mask work its magic!Try Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin Mask. This revitalizing and nourishing mask takes its inspiration from mesotherapy to visibly revitalize the skin. Its formula contains a cocktail of vitamins and hyaluronic acid that ensure beautifully nourished, plumped and radiant skin after every application.Step 4 – Brightening SerumAt night you can either opt for your hyaluronic acid serum again, or change it up with a good vitamin C serum. After all you want to brighten that dull complexion of yours as well and rehydrate it.Try Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe. This product is a-mazing for that perfect pick-me-up. Vitamin C and hydration hero hyaluronic acid, work together to quite literally drench skin with repairing antioxidants, deeply nourishing skin while correcting photo-damage. Not only does it have the most beautiful citrus aroma, when applied skin looks instantly brighter and dewier too!Step 5 - Night CreamWhile you might well love your everyday moisturiser, it’s likely it’s not providing enough nourishment for your skin at night. This is because at night, our skin goes into repair and regeneration mode so a richer night cream formulated with specific ingredients, can make all the difference. In fact, a good night cream will not only sooth and calm skin while you sleep, but also deliver lasting moisture while addressing common skin concerns such as moisture loss and skin ageing! They also help in the skin repair and renewal process by improving cell turnover!Try Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream. This beautifully rich textured cream literally cocoons skin while restoring youthful vitality with a nourishing blend of active marine botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids and conditioning oils.Step 6 - Face OilFor an extra boost of hydration, face oils are a game-changer. Apply a few drops of face oil specifically designed to combat dryness over your moisturiser to seal in moisture and goodness all night long. Not only will your skin drink it up, but you’ll also wake to a radiant, dewy complexion come morning!Try Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate – Fast-absorbing, this soothing, silky anti-oxidant oil radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning. Outstanding stuff! Consistency is key, so stick to this routine and say goodbye to dry, parched, patchy skin for good! Just remember though that skincare isn't just about what you put on your skin—it's also about what you put in your body. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and incorporating water-rich fruits and veggies into your diet.

Damaged skin barrier? How to repair and take care of it

by Jo Boyden on Apr 28 2023
If you’re suddenly suffering from dry, irritated and sensitive skin it’s possible your skin barrier could be compromised. Fear not though, a damaged skin barrier can happen to the best of us, even devout skincare enthusiasts! Thankfully it’s possible to fix a damaged skin barrier – as long as you know how! Keep reading as we talk all things skin barrier, from what it is, to how to fix it and the best tips and products to use. Firstly though when exactly is your skin barrier? Our skin barrier is the outermost layer of our skin. You could call it your ‘shield’ as it literally serves as a protective barrier against the outside world! Be it environmental toxins, bacteria, and other harmful substances.Technically knows as the stratum corneum, it’s a complex system of lipids, proteins and cells which not only protects your face from external aggressors but helps retain moisture in your skin keeping it hydrated and healthy too. What causes a damaged skin barrier?Unfortunately our skin barrier can be very fragile and several factors can compromise or damage it, these include; Harsh soaps and skincare products. Using products that contain harsh chemicals can strip the skin of its natural oils and disrupt the skin barrier. Hot water Yes, something as simple as washing your face with water that is too hot can strip the skin of its natural oils leading to dryness and skin sensitivities. Sun exposure Prolonged exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays can seriously damage the skin barrier and lead to premature ageing. Environmental pollutants Everything from air pollution and cigarette smoke to the weather and blue light from our screens can cause havoc with our skin. Genetics Some people are just more prone to skin barrier damage due to their genetics unfortunately, this doesn’t mean you are doomed, it just means you need to be more religious about looking after your skin and using specific skincare products to protect your skin barrier. Age Our ceramide levels decrease significantly as we age so our skin’s ability to hold onto moisture eventually becomes compromised too. What is the best way to repair your skin’s barrier? If your skin barrier is damaged there are several things you can do to repair it including; Use gentle cleansers Choose skincare products that are gentle and free from harsh chemicals. Look for products specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Avoid hot water Always use lukewarm water instead of hot water when washing your face. Make sure you moisturise morning and night Use a moisturiser that is specifically formulated to repair the skin barrier. Look for products rich in ceramides (an essentially fatty molecule called a lipid which holds your skin cells together, without ceramides there is nothing to keep all those hydrating ingredients from evaporating from the skin!). We love Pevonia’s best selling Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream. It rejuvenates skin cells while softening fine lines and wrinkles and replenishing vital nutrients. Avoid harsh skincare products Steer clear from products that contain alcohol, fragrances, and other harsh chemicals. Products your skin from the sun, every single day! Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 will not only help repair your skin but protect it too and not just from damage to your skin’s barrier but premature ageing as well. Avoid smoking Smoking can and will damage your skin’s barrier and lead to premature ageing. Use skincare products that help combat environmental damage on our skin If you live in the city, try using products that have been carefully formulated to combat environmental damage. We love Phytomer’s CityLife Collection. Eat a healthy diet A diet rich in antioxidants and healthy fats can help support the skin barrier and keep it healthy! Stay hydrated Having a damaged barrier often results in a dehydrated complexion from the skin’s deeper layers so it’s vital to replenish that lost moisture with lightweight serums formulated with hydration heroes like hyaluronic acid. Serums have the ability to penetrate deep into the skin layers, whereas moisturisers tend to hydrate the skin’s surface. We highly recommend Pevonia’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum and Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist for that extra boost of moisture.Drinking plenty of water daily (8 glasses is the recommended amount) is essential too! It will not only help repair damaged skin but help maintain a healthy and hydrated skin barrier once repaired too!

AHAs, BHAs and your skin: Everything you need to know

by Jo Boyden on Dec 15 2022
If you are a lover of skincare, you’ve likely heard of AHA and BHAs, but do you know what it is they actually are, what they can do for your skin or what the difference between these exfoliating acids really are? Keep reading for everything you need to know about BHA, AHAs and your skin. What are AHAs and how do they work?AHAs, or otherwise known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids, are water-soluble acids derived from fruits and plants. They’re considered a chemical exfoliant, which means that they use chemicals — aka acids or enzymes — to buff away dead skin cells. The most common AHA’s in skincare are glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid and malic acid and they are typically found in cleansers and exfoliators but can sometimes feature in masks, serums and moisturisers too!AHAs work by breaking down the ‘glue’ that binds dead skin cells to the skin. Because they have a large molecule size, they primarily work on the top layers of the skin, making them particularly beneficial for those with dry, dehydrated or hyperpigmented skin. By removing dead and dry skin cells, AHAs smooth skin texture, brighten skin tone, fade pigmentation, and can also reduce the chance of breakouts from occurring! What are BHA’s and how do they work? The most well-known BHA is salicylic acid – chances are you’ll have heard of this one if you have breakout-prone skin, since it’s found in many spot treatments.Like AHAs, BHAs also work by breaking down the ‘glue’ that binds dull, dead skin to the surface, however they work on a much deeper level than AHAs, penetrating deep into the pores, unclogging and removing dead skin cells, excess sebum and congestion. This is because BHAs are oil-soluble, making them an effective treatment for oily, breakout and acne-prone skin. Because BHAs can penetrate so deep, removing both dead skin cells and excess oil (which when combined can clog pores and lead to breakouts) they are an effective whitehead and blackhead buster. BHAs also act as an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, so they work to kill acne-causing bacteria and reduce the redness and swelling of spots too. What is the difference between AHA’s and BHA’s?Although both of these ingredients are exfoliating acids and work to improve the appearance of skin by exfoliating it, they actually work in different ways. AHA’s work to break down the glue that holds dead skin cells together while BHA’s go deeper into the pores to remove dirt and oil.Are AHAs and BHAs good for all skin types? If you have oily and blemish prone skin, you’re best to choose skincare products formulated with BHA’s. If your skin tends to be on the dry, dehydrated side, AHA’s should be your go to.While these acids can dramatically improve the appearance of your skin, it’s important to remember that both AHAs and BHAs are active ingredients which (if overused) can impact your skin’s natural barrier, cause irritation, and increase skin’s UV sensitivity. For this reason, it’s essential to understand how to use acids properly, what to do if you over exfoliate your skin, and the best AHA and BHA skincare for your skin type. How to use AHA’s and BHA’s properlyAs with most skincare ingredients, especially exfoliants, AHAs and BHAs have their downsides, including possible sun sensitivity, peeling and itching, so you need to be sure not to overuse any products formulated with AHAs and BHA’s and be extra diligent about slathering on your sunscreen…daily, all year round! Before you incorporate AHA and/or BHA products into your daily skincare routine, you need to consider the other skincare products you are using, paying close attention to the ingredient list to avoid irritation since AHAs and BHA’s might not be compatible with them. It is best to steer clear of your retinol cream or serum on a day you are using AHA and BHA rich skincare as the combination may cause excessive skin sensitivity, irritation, and redness. On the other hand AHAs and BHAs can be mixed with moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, to get effective and long lasting results.AHAs and BHAs themselves can be combined. However AHAs such as glycolic acid, tend to be best for dry, dehydrated skin and surface-level skin concerns like acne scaring, whereas BHAs such as salicylic acid, are best for oily, blemish, and acne-prone skin types. You can use both by including skincare products which contain both ingredients, or by alternating your products. Try these AHA skincare favourites;Pevonia Renewing Glycocides CreamIf your skin is looking a tad dull and devitalised and you’re forever coveting that ‘insta-glow’, this product is your answer! Formulated with most renowned AHA glycolic acid combined with hydration hero Hyaluronic Acid, it works to dissolve dead skin cells, improving skin texture and diminishing fine lines too! Skin resurfaces soother, brighter and younger…seriously.Phytomer Emergence Even Skin Tone Refining SerumThis lightweight, refining face serum formulated with a powerful AHA formulation, visibly reduces the appearances of imperfections. It diminishes the appearance of uneven pigmentation, acne, enlarged pores and dark spots! Try these BHA skincare favourites;Medicalia Clarifying CleanserRich in BHA Salicylic Acid, this cleanser works quickly to eliminate toxins, impurities, surface bacteria, makeup and oil to reveal clearer, brighter skin. Pore size is also visibly reduced!Pevonia Clarifyl Spot TreatmentThis anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, soothing spot treatment combines the best ingredients to combat the war on pimples and provide exceptional, visible results almost overnight! Encouraging rapid healing, it keeps skin follicles clean, clear, and bacteria-free.

What to do when moisturiser isn’t enough for your dry skin

by Jo Boyden on Oct 13 2022
Perhaps you’ve been a loyal fan of your trusty moisturiser for some time now but have recently realised it’s just not enough for your devitalised, dry skin? Or maybe you’ve read all the reviews on that ‘miracle’ face cream so many are raving about but find isn’t it working for your parched complexion. If you’ve been asking yourself why your skin is still so dry even when you moisturise religiously, something isn’t right, and we are here to tell you what! Keep reading as we explain what you need to do when that moisturiser of yours simply isn’t enough for your dry skin. Properly cleanse your skin morning and night A moisturiser isn’t going to work as well if your face isn’t clean! Moisturisers should be applied to perfectly cleansed skin as they prevent skin from drying out post wash and are actually most effective when applied to slightly damp skin as they seal in moisture.Cleanse skin twice daily, morning and night with a gentle creamy cleanser to wash away the day’s dirt, makeup and grim that can dry out the skin.Try: Pevonia - CleanRefresh™ Foaming Oil CleanserSuitable for all skin types, but especially recommended for dry skin, this innovative, triple duty oil cleanser features an advanced, lipid rich, alcohol-free, soap-free, exclusive formula which transforms into a luscious, foamy cleanser for a truly luxurious cleansing experience. Exfoliate weekly Exfoliation is essential. It will help remove dead skin cell build up that could be blocking your complexion and in turn preventing your moisturiser from properly absorbing into your skin.If your skin is dry exfoliate just once a week and try using a gentle exfoliator formulated with nourishing ingredients. A gentle exfoliant will help remove the dry cell barrier that prevents absorption of moisturising ingredients and will brighten dull skin at the same time.Try Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant. It’s seriously soft, silky and subtle scented plus it’s ideal for all skin types even the most sensitive or dry! It eliminates impurities by gently removing dead skin cells with natural enzymes (so no scrubbing or irritating the skin whatsoever) and naturally encourages cell turnover. The result? Beautifully luminous and youthful skin after every use – no jokes! Always use a serum Serums have multiple benefits but the most important is that they can hydrate more effectively than any moisturiser because the molecules in a serum are able to truly penetrate your skin much deeper than any other skincare product. So, while your moisturiser tends to sit on the skin’s surface nourishing the toy layers, your serum hydrates on the deepest level.Serums do not, however, replace your moisturiser, but instead, when applied prior to your moisturiser, boost its effects and help lock in moisture. Vital for those with dry skin!Try: Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. Featuring one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market (12%), combined with the powerful anti-ageing duo of marine collagen and Hibiscus Esculentus extract, this ultimate serum for seriously thirsty skin, delivers immediate skin soothing results and deep hydration. It eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dry of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. Oh and not only does it help rejuvenate skin cells but will bind any moisturiser you apply on top like a magnet too! Make sure your moisturiser is formulated with skin specific nourishing ingredients A deeply nourishing moisturiser is a must when it comes to a dry complexion but the only way you’ll truly get this is if it’s loaded with specific hydrating ingredients including; Hydration hero Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Glycerin and Squalane.Try: Pevonia Age Defying Marine Collagen Cream. This global best seller is my personal absolute can’t live without product and the no. 1 recommendation of the BC Pros too. It’s a gorgeously rich, yet fine cream – formulated with Squalane, Collagen, Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid – that feels amazing on application and really does leave skin super soft, supple and like it’s had that much-needed boost of moisture, a feeling that lasts all day! Use a facial mist in the morning (and throughout the day) Once you’ve applied your makeup it’s highly unlikely you’d reapply your moisturiser (after all you wouldn’t want to mess up that makeup of yours!) but by spritzing a face mist formulated with extra hydrating ingredients, will help give skin that extra boost of moisture every time you apply it throughout the day.Try: Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist. Formulated with super hydrator hyaluronic acid, this true multi-tasker can be used in the morning to revitalise your senses and replenish the moisture your skin has lost overnight, throughout the day to help your skin stay supple and fresh (or as the perfect pick-me-up), and as a toner to enhance your evening cleanse. What’s more it will actually improve the absorption of your serum and moisturiser optimising the benefits and overall results too! Oh, and it doubles as a finishing or setting spray, locking your makeup in place and increasing its length of wear! At night, lock in moisture with a facial oil Yes, your moisturiser will indeed moisturise your skin but without using a barrier cream or oil, moisture can escape, and skin will become dry again. Face Oils have the ability to help boost your moisturiser’s hydrating efforts by sealing in all the nourishing ingredients, making your skin more likely to hold onto that added hydration. In fact, face oils are integral to healthy skin as without them, moisture just continuously leeches out from the skin until the next time you apply your cream!Try: Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate. It’s a soothing, silky antioxidant oil with the most amazing mandarin aroma, is worth its weight in gold! It’s fast-absorbing and radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning.
dry dehydrated skin

Dry vs dehydrated skin. What’s the difference?

by Jo Boyden on Aug 27 2022
Winter just keeps on giving and thanks to the gusty winds and cold temperatures of late, you might well have noticed a change in your skin and self-diagnosed as having a dry, dehydrated complexion? The thing is while dry skin and dehydrated skin share many of the same traits, they are in fact two very different skin conditions and therefore need to be treated in different ways.Dry skin is actually a skin type (just like your combination, sensitive and oily skin) inherited through your genetics (thanks parents!), whereas a dehydrated complexion is simply a skin concern caused by external factors and can be more easily rectified my making a few lifestyle changes. Curious to know which of the two you might suffer from? Read on as we explain the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin and the best products and ways to remedy both of these skin concerns. Dehydrated skinDehydrated skin is a skin condition that occurs when there is a lack of water in our skin. Dehydration can actually happen to anyone no matter your skin type - you can even have oily skin and experience dehydration! Sounds counterintuitive right? The thing is our skin is made up of layers of water-based cells, in fact, it’s estimated that our skin contains 64% water! Crazy right? The outermost layer of our skin is made up of lipids, keratin and sebum. Sebum is actually used as a way to keep the skin moisturised and acts as a waterproofing mechanism, keeping water from leaving your body. It also helps maintain flexibility in the skin and can act as a barrier from external factors.Sometimes our skin is however compromised due to external factors like the weather and pollution, or we simply aren’t getting enough water and sleep! When this happens the outermost layer loses its ability to maintain hydration which can result in itchy, tight and dull skin. The good news though, is that these signs of dehydration can be easily reversed by re-hydrating our bodies and moisturising our skin! So, if you’ve noticed that your skin suddenly looks a duller than before, your fine lines and wrinkles look a little more obvious even, or perhaps your skin feels tighter than normal, it’s a pretty good indication that the cause could be temporary dehydration. To learn more about why your skin is dehydrated and how to fix it click here. Dry skinDry skin on the other hand doesn’t lack water, it in fact lacks oil! The oil our skin naturally secretes from our sebaceous glands in our pores to keep skin protected and stop it from drying out! When there is a lack of oil our skin takes on a more flaky, scaly, dry appearance. Skin can also look inflamed with redness and irritation. For dry skin, moisturising is paramount. It’ll help dry skin better retain water and maintain a proper level of hydration. The key to addressing dry skin is to ensure the skincare you are using is formulated with specifical ingredients. Look for dry skin creams rich in nourishing ingredients including shea butter, squalane, safflower, jojoba, tea tree, hyaluronic acid and ceramides. Also opt for products that help you lock in moisture, such as your overnight oils.To learn more about dry skin and the best products for this skin condition click here.

7 causes of dry skin and how to treat it

by Jo Boyden on Jul 14 2022
If your skin has been feeling somewhat tight of late, itchy and irritated even, or if you’re prone to dry patches and flakiness on your face, it’s likely you have ‘dry’ skin. But what exactly is causing your dry complexion you might ask? And why doesn’t your current skincare routine appear to be working to help counteract this condition? If you’re looking for answers as well as effective remedies, look no further! But first what exactly is dry skin?Dry skin is a very common skin type and can affect anyone at any age. Typically, it happens when our sebaceous glands don’t produce enough oil (sebum) and our skin in turn loses too much water. This is because our natural oils help trap in moisture to keep the skin soft, smooth and supple, if there isn’t enough oil, moisture can escape, leaving the top layer of skin prone to dryness.Unfortunately, the lack of oil production is caused by a number of external factors, but fear not once you know what they are you can start to salvage your skin!Read on as we reveal the 7 main causes of dry skin and the best skincare solutions to treat it. Genetics That’s right, dry skin can indeed be inherited! Another thing we can thank our parents for!If you’ve always been prone to dry skin, it’s essential that you are diligent when it comes to daily skincare routine.Solution:Look for skincare specifically targeted for dry skin. You need to replace moisture in the form of hyaluronic acid and collagen, and natural oils such as squalane. Products rich in ceramides (fatty acids) such as safflower oil are also very important and will help build and reinforce your skin barrier – these include rich creams, balms and soothing cleansers that deliver intense and lasting hydration for visibly plump, smooth and radiant skin.Try: Pevonia Rejuvenating Dry Skin Cream. Formulated with some of the best natural ingredients to counteract dry skin including pear seed extract, hyaluronic acid, collagen, shea butter and squalane, this deeply nourishing and skin smoothing cream diminishes dry and flaky skin while combatting fine lines and wrinkles for a truly rejuvenated, hydrated appearance. Hard water When tap water contains a high concentration of minerals including calcium and magnesium it's known as hard water. Those minerals change the pH balance of your skin as well as leave a film over your skin’s surface that may clog pores, cause dryness and even trigger breakouts, itching and flaking! Aside from upsetting the delicate skin barrier, hard water also prevents skincare products such as your moisturiser from being absorbed into the skin, sapping it of moisture. Eek.Solution: Re-balancing and rehydration are key.Use pH balancing cleansers. They leave the skin with a healthy acidic pH so your moisturiser doesn’t have to work so hard.Try Pevonia CleanRefresh™ Foaming Oil Cleanser. Suitable for all skin types, but especially recommended for dry skin, this innovative, triple duty oil cleanser features an advanced, lipid rich, alcohol-free, soap-free, exclusive formula which transforms into a luscious, foamy cleanser for a truly luxurious cleansing experience! It’s outstanding! However, if your skin is a little on the dry/sensitive side opt for Phytomer’s Perfect Visage Gentle Cleansing Milk. Its creamy texture melts on your skin to gently remove makeup and impurities without disturbing the skin's protective barrier.Toners are great if you have hard water as they melt away any remaining residue also helping to maintain a healthy pH and optimise skin functioning. Using it while the skin is still damp will interrupt the process of the minerals from the water settling on the skin.Try Phytomer Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion. This genius all-in-one makeup remover and toner is THE perfect multi-tasking product for beautifully clean skin! It’s quick, effective and oh so easy to use. Plus, it’s alcohol-free and extremely gentle on the skin so perfect for all skin types! It removes any excess makeup and residue on the skin like a dream and tones without leaving an oily film, just a silky soft fresh-faced complexion instead!Add skin-care products that contain vitamin C to your routine because they also help counteract the coating deposited by hard water.Try Pevonia “C” Complexe with Oxyzomes, it’s a firm favourite of the team at BC and for very good reason.Follow with a moisturiser that will sufficiently restore your skin's softness. Harsh products Maybe your cleanser is too harsh or you’re using your Sonic facial cleansing brush too often. Or perhaps you’re overusing retinol or the salicylic acid in your cleanser is great at treating your blemishes but it’s also drying out your skin. Whatever the case may be, all these daily habits can damage your skin’s moisture barrier without you being aware! This in turn results in surface dryness and skin irritation.Solution; The good news is that you don't have to give up these skin-care heroes (after all they also offer a multitude of benefits), you just need to use them cautiously and reduce the frequency of which you are using them. Cutting down on their use may deliver the results you want without irritation. Over exfoliating Exfoliating is imperative, it allows you to clear your clogged pores, remove excess dry skin and encourage increased cell turnover making way for blemish free skin, but we can all fall victim to exfoliation which can have ramifications on our skin damaging the protective skin barrier which in turn can trigger excessive dryness! Eek.Solution:If your skin is dry exfoliate just once a week and try using a gentle exfoliator formulated with nourishing ingredients. A gentle exfoliant will help remove the dry cell barrier that prevents absorption of moisturising ingredients and brighten dull skin at the same time.Try Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant. Dry air and indoor heating Sometimes the air inside can be as punishing on your skin as the air outside (especially in winter when there is low humidity and cooler temperatures). Forced air, especially heat, can draw humidity levels down, making skin feel dry and itchy.Solution;Skin moisturisers which rehydrate the top layer of skin cells and seal in moisture are the first step in combating your dry skin. Moisturisers rich in humectants which help attract moisture, and emollients, like ceramides and oils are the way to go!Humidifiers are a great solution too! By adding moisture to the air you’ll be encouraging the moisture in your skin to stay put!Try: Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream. This restorative anti-aging night cream restores youthful vitality to your skin with a nourishing blend of active marine botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids and conditioning oils. The rich texture cocoons skin in nourishing hydration so your complexion gets all the benefits while you slumber. Long hot showers Ahhh who doesn’t love a long, hot shower, especially on a cold winter’s day, it really is one of life’s little pleasures, the problem is though, that while it will indeed make you feel better, it’s not doing any good to your skin! Hot showers and baths can actually inflame the skin, causing redness, itching, and excessive dryness. They can also disrupt the skin's natural balance of moisture, robbing you of the natural oils, fats, and proteins that keep skin healthy!Solution; Now I’m not asking you to forgo your shower, or that long indulgent bath of an evening, but try to limit your shower time and keep the temperature down! Afterwards, apply a moisturising cream within one minute of getting out of the shower to seal in moisture whilst skin is damp as moisturisers work best on damp skin.At night up your game by applying a low molecular oil, they absorb into the skin to stimulate the cells and prevent water evaporation. Many people avoid using products at night in the belief they should allow their skin to ‘breathe’ but on the contrary skincare in the way of a moisturiser and oil at night is imperative. At night your skin is no longer having to play the position of defence, instead, skin is resting, and this is when its permeability is at its highest allowing the active ingredients in your skincare to absorb deep into the skin, and really tackle your dry skin concerns!Try Pevonia’s Vitaminic Concentrate. This soothing, silky oil with the most amazing mandarin aroma, is worth its weight in gold! It’s fast-absorbing and radically combats dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple and seriously glowy skin every morning. Ageing! Dry skin tends to become more of an issue as we get older, this is because our skin produces less oil and gets drier. For women, it could also be due to the hormone changes associated with menopause.Solution; For those with advanced signs of ageing who need optimal cell turnover, choose sulphate-free dry skin skincare products that are infused with hyaluronic acid, glycerin and retinol. These ingredients help replenish lost moisture and quickly repair the skin barrier. We also recommend selecting skincare for dry skin that’s enriched with marine collagen to help preserve moisture and your skin’s hydrolipidic film. Hydrating Serums are great as they penetrate deep into the skin to hydrate between the skin cells and help skin weave new collagen and elastin. Make sure you moisturise every day too (or multiple times a day if needed).Try Pevonia Micro-Retinol Essential Serum formulated with retinol, hyaluronic, and glycerin, it deeply hydrates, smooths, brightens and firms!Worried about using retinol since your skin is sensitive and dry? Don’t stress! Simply check out our blog and learn all there is to know about this anti-ageing holy grail of the skincare world!

The best beauty buys for dry skin according to the BC Pros

by Jo Boyden on Dec 15 2021
Whether you are prone to dry skin (thank you genetics), you’re dealing with what the warm weather brings (heat, to air conditioning to heat again), you’ve been using products that may be a little too harsh, or your skin has become thinner with age and is now unable to retain moisture like it once did, it’s likely you’ve fallen victim to flaky, dry skin many a time!In fact, dry skin, like rosacea and acne, is one of the most common skin complaints, yet a condition which is easily treatable by improving your skincare routine, you just need to know what products and ingredients are best to use. Below we reveal the best skincare for your dry skin, as recommended by the BC pros! A deeply nourishing moisturiser is a must! When combatting dry skin, it’s best to use a nourishing moisturiser that contains no irritants, but is instead loaded with soothing, and nourishing, natural ingredients including Shea Butter, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E, Glycerin and Squalane.Try: Pevonia Age Defying Marine Collagen Cream My personal absolute can’t live without product and the no. 1 recommendation of the BC Pros too, the Marine Collagen Cream isn’t Pevonia’s global bestseller for nothing! It’s a gorgeously rich, yet fine cream - formulated with the best hydrating ingredients; Squalane, Collagen, Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid - that feels amazing on application and really does leave skin super soft, supple and like it’s had that much-needed boost of moisture, a feeling that lasts all day!We also love Phytomer’s Nutritionelle Dry Skin Rescue Cream, salvation for even the most dry as a desert skin! This soft, silky rich cream incorporates a cocktail of marine and plant oils including organic glasswort, organic buckwheat, apricot kernel, shea butter and hydrafusion, to bring comfort and hydration all day long. Say goodbye to tight, uncomfortable and parched skin and hello to a suppler, soft and visibly plumped complexion. Use a gentle, creamy cleanser (no to foam and oil cleansers!) It’s important to wash your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser to help wash away any grime that can dry out the skin.People with dry skin should look for a creamy, soothing and moisturizing cleanser, as well as cleansers that contain glycerin and hyaluronic acid because these ingredients draw water to the surface of the skin. Avoid foam cleansers, which tend to be drying!Try: Pevonia Dry Skin Cleanser This delightfully creamy, fluffy and water-soluble cleanser lifts off impurities from skin while counteracting dryness at the same time. Glycerin, repairing arnica and hydrating cucumber all work in harmony to provide a wonderful, nourishing yet effective cleansing experience. Don’t forget your serum Serums are like a shot for the skin. Packed with a high concentration of potent, active ingredients, they have the ability to hydrate more effectively than even the heaviest of creams because the molecules are able to truly penetrate the skin and hydrate on the deepest level, while your cream tends to sit on the skin's surface and nourish the top layers of your skin. Serums do not, however, replace your moisturiser, but instead, when applied prior to your moisturiser, boost its effects and help lock in moisture. Vital for those with dry skin!Try: Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum If your skin is feeling the drying effects of summer then you need a hydration boost! Just a few drops of Pevonia’s Hydra-Serum not only helps to rejuvenate skin cells but will bind any moisturiser you apply on top like a magnet too!Featuring one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market (12%), combined with the powerful anti-ageing duo of marine collagen and Hibiscus Esculentus extract, this ultimate serum for seriously thirsty skin, delivers immediate skin soothing results and deep hydration. It eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dehydrated of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. What’s more you can get this amazing product, plus Pevonia’s global best-selling Age Correction Marine Collagen Cream and a Collagen Mask in a limited-edition Ultra Hydration gift set this festive season! Everything you need to boost hydration! Use the Hydra serum and marine collagen cream in unison daily to provide skin deep hydration with dewy, luminous results every day. Then apply the mask once or twice a week for that added boost your skin may need. Face oils are a game-changer Face oils can be the ideal remedy for those with dry skin. Not only do they provide nourishment of their own, they also have the ability to help boost your moisturiser’s hydrating efforts by sealing in all the nourishing ingredients, making your skin more likely to hold onto that added hydration. In fact, face oils are integral to healthy skin as without them, moisture just continuously leeches out from the skin until the next time you apply your cream!Try: Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate This soothing, silky antioxidant oil with the most amazing mandarin aroma, is worth its weight in gold! It’s fast-absorbing and radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning. Make sure you exfoliate once a week! Finally, make sure to exfoliate once a week or twice a week to help remove excess dry skin and encourage increased cell turnover.Try: Phytomer Cyfolia Radiance Exfoliating Cream If your complexion is dry and devitalized, we highly recommend investing in this exfoliating cream. It gently exfoliates skin to reveal a truly radiant complexion! It features two organic exfoliants – argan kernels and pomegranate seeds, as well as Algae, Oligomer and Orange water that work together to immediately clear away rough and dry skin for a visibly softer, smoother and brighter complexion after every single application.
