7 of the best ingredients to brighten your skin

If you’re fed up with having a dull, lacklustre complexion, it might be time to change up your skincare routine. By introducing a few simple steps, you can take your skin from drab to radiant in next to no time! And no we aren’t talking makeup, even though you can achieve a ‘brighter glow’ with a good stick illuminator or power highlighter, it’s the ‘lit from within’ glow we are all after which can only truly be achieved by using the right skincare products, skincare products formulated with the best skin brightening ingredients that is!

From the infamous vitamin C to powerhouse retinol, keep reading as we countdown the best skincare ingredients to brighten your dull skin, 7 ingredients that will reduce dark spots, fade hyperpigmentation, clear pores, smooth skins surface and well, create an overall radiant complexion….

Vitamin C

This outstanding brightening ingredient is like a burst of sunshine for your skin. It’s a powerful antioxidant that fights off free radicals and prevents skin from developing photodamage and dark spots caused by sun exposure. It also evens out skin tone and promotes collagen production. This translates to a smoother, more radiant complexion that is free from dullness and discolouration. All hail Vitamin C!

Try: Pevonia C Complex – How can we describe a serum that smells like a fresh orange, is silkier than silk and once applied leaves your skin looking as though you’ve just returned from a tropical island holiday?  A bit over the top? Ok, maybe… but seriously, this is an addictive product and when applied beneath your regular moisturiser offers a vibrancy and luminosity rarely seen without a pound of makeup.  Many clients comment that it has in fact helped eliminate the need for foundation! Pretty serious claim but true nonetheless. It’s seriously good stuff! So if dullness and tiredness are your skin woes, try this glow getter! You won’t be disappointed.

Glycolic Acid

Don’t let the word ‘acid’ scare you. Glycolic acid is a water soluble AHA (otherwise known as alpha-hydroxy acid) derived from sugar cane! It’s a type of natural exfoliant which dissolves the ‘glue’ that holds dead skin cells together, enabling them to be easily sloughed away revealing fresh, healthy skin underneath. And because of its small molecule size (glycolic acid actually has the smallest molecular size among all AHAs) it is able to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin where it can help treat everything from fine lines to uneven texture, blemishes, and of course dullness!

Try: Pevonia Renewing Glycocides Cream – If your skin is looking a tad dull and devitalised and you’re forever coveting that ‘insta-glow’, this product is your answer! Formulated with most renowned AHA glycolic acid combined with hydration hero Hyaluronic Acid, this treatment cream works to dissolve dead skin cells, improving skin texture and diminishing fine lines too! Skin resurfaces soother, brighter and younger…seriously.

Pevonia Renewing Glycocides Cream

Retinol

If you’re searching for a way to turn back the clock and reveal a brighter, more youthful complexion, look no further than this holy grail anti-ageing wonder ingredient! A derivative of Vitamin A, retinol stimulates cell turnover, inhibits melanin production (which helps dimmish hyperpigmentation, dark spots and acne scars), boosts collagen production and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The results? Skin looks plump, firm and positively luminous!

Try: Pevonia’s Micro-Retinol Line – this outstanding range of retinol products contains all-natural retinol, sourced from green leafy vegetables, paired with powerhouse duo Vitamin C and Vitamin E for optimal results! Each product in the range also utilizes a specialized technology to create micro-particles of retinol that get delivered deep into the epidermis. This means complete product absorption, no skin irritation and beautifully brighter skin.

Tip: Apply in the evening, always wear SPF the morning after application, and avoid layering with exfoliating acids and vitamin c.

Micro Retinol

Lactic Acid

Similarly to glycolic acid, lactic acid dissolves the upper layers of dead skin cells, kickstarting a process of renewal that means fresh new cells come to the surface and make skin appear brighter. Lactic acid has larger molecules than glycolic acid, so doesn’t penetrate as deeply and is less likely to irritate sensitive skin.

Try: Phytomer Emergence Even Skin Tone Refining Serum

This lightweight, refining face serum formulated with a powerful AHA formulation, visibly reduces the appearances of imperfections.  It diminishes the appearance of uneven pigmentation, acne, enlarged pores and dark spots, making your skin appear younger, brighter and healthier!

Phytomer - Emergence Even Skin Tone Refining Serum 30ml

Enzymes

When it comes to exfoliation, papaya enzymes are the gentle giants (so if you have sensitive skin this is the way to go!) They provide skin with a very gentle form of exfoliation as they don’t adjust the skin’s pH. Enzymes literally dissolve dead skin cells by breaking down the keratin protein in the upper layers of your skin, revealing brighter skin underneath. It’s like a mini day spa for your face!

Try: Pevonia Enzymo Spherides Peeling Cream– There’s something so wholesome about this peeling cream that smells so delicious you could eat it!  Papaya and Pineapple have been selected for their enzyme peeling action, in other words, an action that gently digests away the dead skin cells instead of abrading or burning them off.  So it’s gentle, really gentle, and it’s effective too!  Nothing makes skin feel cleaner, lighter or more purified than this jar of goodness and it’s easy to use; simply apply a thin layer on cleansed skin, wet the fingertips with warm water, this will help to “wake up” the enzymes, then leave them to do their thing for 5-10 minutes, then rinse away.  What you are left with is skin that looks reborn and with a lustrous sheen.

Pevonia - Enzymo Spherides Peeling Cream

Hyaluronic Acid

Bright skin doesn’t just mean saying goodbye to dark spots – it’s also about having plump, hydrated skin that looks youthful and alive. Hyaluronic acid is a master at retaining moisture, giving your skin that dewy, healthy glow that turns heads.

Try: Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic acid vitamin mask containing a cocktail of vitamins and hyaluronic acid, this sensational mask reveals hydrated skin and a radiant complexion. With each application, skin is visibly smoothed and plumped.

Beauty Collective - Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid VItamin Mask

Niacinamide

If you’re dealing with pesky dark spots, redness, or an uneven skin tone, niacinamide might just become your new best friend. This B-vitamin helps regulate sebum production, soothes inflammation, and minimizes the appearance of pores. The result? Clearer, more even skin that’s positively glowing.

Try: ELES Hydrating and Brightening Sheet Mask – if you’re dealing with dryness, dehydration, discolouration and dullness and could do with an instant pick-me-up, as well as boost of hydration, a sheet mask that contains nourishing and brightening ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin c or niacinamide is the way to go! We can’t get enough of this sheet mask by ELES Cosmetics, it plumps the skin from within, radically reducing moisture loss, plus extra bonus it helps to prevent hyperpigmentation and give your skin a fabulous, healthy glow.

Remember, achieving bright, glowing skin isn’t an overnight process. Consistency is key, so introduce these ingredients into your skincare routine gradually and listen to your skin’s needs. Whether you’re dealing with dark spots, dullness, or simply want to enhance your natural radiance, these 7 outstanding ingredients will have you covered!

dry to dewy skin

From Dry to Dewy: The best skincare routine for Dry Skin

Whether you love or loathe cold, winter weather, there is no mistaking the havoc it can cause on our skin. Ever dealt with (or perhaps currently experiencing) dry, flaky patches? Tightness even? Or perhaps it’s a dull lacklustre complexion you have become accustomed too of late! Well, we are here to tell you how you can transform that dry skin of yours to deliciously dewy in next to no time. All you need to do is follow the right skincare routine for dry skin! And stick to it daily.

Morning skincare routine for dry skin

When it comes to the best skincare routine for dry skin, the products you use in the morning will differ from those you apply at night. First and foremost you want to make sure you build a skincare routine rich in moisture, you need to rehydrate that parched skin of yours, but you want to ensure you then keep it nourished and hydrated too!

Step 1 – Hydrating Cleanser

The first step in any skincare routine is cleansing, but for us dry-skin folks, it’s essential to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser. Look for cleansers with a creamy or oil-based formula that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Harsh, foaming cleansers can be our arch-nemesis, so avoid those like the plague!

Try Pevonia Hydrating Cleanser. Thanks to its outstanding combination of marine collagen, marine elastin, hyaluronic acid and glycerin, this nourishing, creamy textured cleanser thoroughly removes skin impurities and excess oil without any residue, all whilst helping to preserve your skin’s moisture too!

N.B Exfoliation is essential too as you’ll want to rid your skin of any lingering dry, dead, skin cells to make way for the healthy, new cells patiently waiting underneath! How often you exfoliate will depend on the sensitivity of your skin though, so best to start with once a week and use a gentle exfoliating cleanser. This will keep skin brighter and balanced (without stripping away moisture) and will also assist in products such as your serum being able to fully penetrate your skin for optimal end results.

Beauty Collective - Pevonia Power Repair Hydrating Cleanser

Step 2 – Hyaluronic Acid Serum

You might we wondering if you really need a serum in your skincare routine because doesn’t your moisturiser offer enough nourishment? Well I’m here to tell you how necessary a serum really is! Serums are like a shot for the skin. Firstly they tend to perform above and beyond many regular skincare products, this is because they are developed with a higher concentration of targeted active ingredients. Secondly, the purpose of a serum is to target a specific concern. In our case dryness!

Incorporate a hyaluronic acid serum into your morning skincare routine, and your skin will thank you for it! Believe me. Hyaluronic acid is a dry-skin superhero! This moisture-binding ingredient can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, leaving your skin feeling hydrated and plump.

Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum. The ultimate for seriously thirsty skin, this serum eliminates dryness almost instantly as it quite literally blasts even the most dehydrated of complexions with a surge of moisture, maintaining surface hydration throughout the day. By adding moisture back into your skin, this serum immediately boosts skin’s suppleness and combats ageing in multiple ways thanks to its skin-plumping properties.

Step 3 – Eye Cream

If you have dry skin, it’s essential not to forget to incorporate an eye cream into your daily routine. The skin around the eye is some of the most delicate on the body, so it needs that little extra TLC that your moisturiser can not provide. In fact, the skin under our eyes is up to 1/10 thinner than other facial skin so it’s crucial to care delicately for this area to avoid any damage. While you might think your moisturiser will suffice, you’d be wrong! Like a moisturiser, an eye cream’s main objective is to deliver brightening and anti-ageing ingredients to the skin, however in a milder, gentler, safer dose.  Moisturisers tend to have a much richer consistency in comparison to their counterpart which if applied under the eyes can prove too much, resulting in irritation, allergic reactions and milia. A hydrating eye cream can help prevent dryness, nourish already present crepiness, and combat signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, undereye puffiness and dark circles! Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, vitamin c, shea butter, collagen and vitamin B as they will help restore the delicate skin and retain moisture.

Try Pevonia Evolutive Eye Cream. This anti-ageing eye cream deeply nourishes and renews the delicate under eye area in multiple ways. Formulated with a powerful blend of anti-agers including hyaluronic acid, vitamin A and glycolic acid, it firms, smooths and hydrates dry, crepey skin.

Step 4 – Nourishing Moisturiser

A moisturiser not only infuses your skin with hydration but also helps trap in all of the products underneath it to make the ingredients even more effective.

When it comes to dry skin, a super nourishing moisturiser rich in specific ingredients such as shea butter, ceramides, glycerin, natural oil (think avocado, jojoba, or rosehip) and hyaluronic acid is a must! It’ll help replenish your skin with the nourishment it craves.

Try Phytomer Nutritionnelle Dry Skin Rescue Cream – this is a salvation for even the driest skin, bringing comfort, hydration and protection.

Phytomer - Nutritionelle Dry Skin Rescue Cream

Step 5 – Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine, regardless of skin type. Sun damage is the no. 1 cause of premature ageing so what’s the point of spending money on all those anti-ageing skincare products if you undo all the good by not being religious with your sunscreen application! Protecting your skin from sun damage will make all your other skin care products more effective!

Choose a lightweight sunscreen that won’t clog pores or cause breakouts. Go for a chemical or mineral sunscreen of at least SPF 30 (preferably 50). Sun damage can worsen dryness, so don’t forget this crucial step, even on cloudy days.

Try ELES Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50+ It’s super lightweight and full of great ingredients that prevent hyper-pigmentation and dehydration. It also gives you a bit of glow which is a bonus that many sunscreens don’t provide.

ELES - Luminous Defence Brightening Day Protection 50

Step 6 – Facial Mist

For that extra boost of cooling hydration and to lock in all those skincare ingredients throughout the day a facial mist is a must!

Try Pevonia Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Mist This product is a dream. It provides the perfect spritz to replenish tired, dry or tight skin. As well as Hyaluronic Acid, it’s formulated with a blend of ultra-calming Chamomile, Aloe, Green Tea and aromatic essential oils, making this powerhouse product ideal for all skin types, especially dehydrated, irritated, and ageing skin! However should your skin be on the sensitive side, a little itchy or irritated even, it will work its magic to calm, nurture and alleviate too.

Night skincare routine for dry skin

Step 1 – Cleanser

First thing you’ll likely want to do (and should do) after a long day is remove the days makeup and grime from your face with a good cleanser or face wash. Should you wish to double cleanse, you can do that too!

Try using an oil cleanser first followed by a cream cleanser to refresh your skin and leave a dewy finish.

Step 2 – Hydrating Toner

Follow your face wash with a hydrating toner. Unfortunately, toners are often the forgotten skincare product, usually because people don’t understand their purpose, but they are in fact an essential product in any skincare routine! Why? Because a good toner will not only remove any excess makeup and grime that your cleanser might have missed but it will also prep your skin for the goodness that follows (we are talking ingredients in the rest of your skin care routine!) The best toner for dry skin will pump up hydration but also restore skin, balance pH too.

Opt for an alcohol-free, hydrating toner that contains ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin to lock in moisture as well as plump up your skin. Pat it on gently with your hands or use a soft cotton pad.

Try Pevonia Hydrating Toner – Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice, and Vitamin E, it works to hydrate, revive and fully refresh the skin. Great for anyone with worried about ageing, dehydration or devitalised skin.

Step 3 – face mask

With so many steps in your daily skincare routine, you might be wondering if masking is really another necessary step, after all, what more can this product do for your skin that your cleanser, toner, exfoliator, serum and moisturiser hasn’t already done? Well, the answer to that is a lot actually! Face masks are in fact an essential part of any skin care routine, and for very good reason. Not only do they help protect your skin from environmental pollutants and other irritants, but they also help to keep skin looking and feeling healthy. They are also a great way to give your skin a boost of nourishment and help to target any skin concerns you may have too., dry skin in this case!

Treat yourself to a hydrating face mask once or twice a week. Sheet masks, gel masks and cream masks formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and jojoba oil can work wonders for dry skin. Sit back, relax, and let the mask work its magic!

Try Vie Collection Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin Mask. This revitalizing and nourishing mask takes its inspiration from mesotherapy to visibly revitalize the skin. Its formula contains a cocktail of vitamins and hyaluronic acid that ensure beautifully nourished, plumped and radiant skin after every application.

Beauty Collective - Mesoforce Hyaluronic Acid VItamin Mask

Step 4 – Brightening Serum

At night you can either opt for your hyaluronic acid serum again, or change it up with a good vitamin C serum. After all you want to brighten that dull complexion of yours as well and rehydrate it.

Try Pevonia Vitamin C Complexe. This product is a-mazing for that perfect pick-me-up. Vitamin C and hydration hero hyaluronic acid, work together to quite literally drench skin with repairing antioxidants, deeply nourishing skin while correcting photo-damage. Not only does it have the most beautiful citrus aroma, when applied skin looks instantly brighter and dewier too!

Step 5 – Night Cream

While you might well love your everyday moisturiser, it’s likely it’s not providing enough nourishment for your skin at night. This is because at night, our skin goes into repair and regeneration mode so a richer night cream formulated with specific ingredients, can make all the difference. In fact, a good night cream will not only sooth and calm skin while you sleep, but also deliver lasting moisture while addressing common skin concerns such as moisture loss and skin ageing! They also help in the skin repair and renewal process by improving cell turnover!

Try Phytomer Night Recharge Youth Enhancing Cream. This beautifully rich textured cream literally cocoons skin while restoring youthful vitality with a nourishing blend of active marine botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids and conditioning oils.

Step 6 – Face Oil

For an extra boost of hydration, face oils are a game-changer. Apply a few drops of face oil specifically designed to combat dryness over your moisturiser to seal in moisture and goodness all night long. Not only will your skin drink it up, but you’ll also wake to a radiant, dewy complexion come morning!

Try Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate – Fast-absorbing, this soothing, silky anti-oxidant oil radically combats premature ageing, dehydration, and excessive dryness by locking in hydration and delivering moisture that stays! So you’ll wake up to smooth, supple, and seriously glowy skin every morning. Outstanding stuff!

Beauty Collective - Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate

Consistency is key, so stick to this routine and say goodbye to dry, parched, patchy skin for good! Just remember though that skincare isn’t just about what you put on your skin—it’s also about what you put in your body. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and incorporating water-rich fruits and veggies into your diet.

Hyaluronic Acid for the under eye

6 reasons why you should use hyaluronic acid under your eyes

We are taught from an early age to look after our skin – to cleanse every evening and apply moisturiser to keep skin supple and nourished day and night. But more often than not, our eyes get forgotten. The irony is the skin around our eyes is the most delicate on our face and the first to show signs of ageing. Eye ageing starts in the form of fatigue, we’re talking dark, sullen skin or under eye puffy circles, then the fine lines and wrinkles start to form, all of which could be dramatically reduced if we were to look after our eyes from any early age. Prevention is key as they say! But also, it’s never too late to show those peepers of yours some TLC and the best way to do this is to use a nourishing eye cream rich in hydrating and anti-ageing ingredient hyaluronic acid! Keep reading to learn why using a hyaluronic acid eye cream or serum in your daily skin care routine is a must!

  1. Using a hyaluronic acid eye cream will make a noticeable impact on your eyes delicate skin’s moisture levels

Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant, meaning it attracts and retains moisture in the skin, this is essential for keeping the skin around the eyes hydrated and supple.

  1. Using an eye cream formulated with hyaluronic acid will reduce fine lines and wrinkles

As we age the skin around our eyes becomes dryer, thinner and loses its elasticity which leads to fine lines and wrinkles! And unfortunately the dryer this delicate area, the more visible those unwanted wrinkles are! Hyaluronic acid eye creams not only help prevent this from happening, but they also help to plump up the skin reducing the appearance of the already existing fine lines and wrinkles.

  1. Applying hyaluronic acid under your eyes can help soothe and calm irritated skin

The delicate area surrounding your eyes can be easily irritated and in turn become inflamed. Hyaluronic acid has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe and calm the skin, reducing puffiness and redness around the eyes.

hyaluronic acid undereye

  1. Hyaluronic acid eye creams can brighten and even skin tone

Dark circles and uneven skin tone around the eyes can be caused by dehydration and sun damage. This is turn can make eyes look dull and tired. Hyaluronic acid eye creams especially when they are formulated with vitamin C, can effectively help to brighten and even out the skin tone by hydrating the skin and promoting cell turnover.

  1. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful antioxidant which can protect your peepers

In addition to its hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties, hyaluronic acid is also a powerful antioxidant which can help to protect the skin from damage caused by environmental stressors such as UV rays and pollution.

  1. Using a cream rich in hyaluronic acid can help prevent premature eye ageing

As I mentioned earlier prevention is key when it comes to premature ageing. By being proactive and using a hyaluronic acid eye cream will improve skins elasticity no end and prevent premature wrinkles from even forming!

Overall, using a hyaluronic acid eye cream or serum can help to keep the delicate skin under your eyes hydrated, plump and youthful looking. However, when using hyaluronic acid under the eyes, it’s important to choose a product that is specifically formulated for this area of the face as some products may be too heavy. Look for lightweight serums or eye creams that contain hyaluronic acid and apply them gently using your fingertip. Some of our favourite, and our bestselling eye creams formulated with hyaluronic acid include;

Invest in a gemstone facial roller

And thank me later! By introducing this little gem (pardon the pun!) into your morning beauty routine, you’ll calm any fluid build-up around your eye area (which unfortunately increases with age). As well as their many medicinal benefits gemstone rollers can dramatically reduce puffiness by removing excess fluid around the eyes towards your lymph nodes where it filters out toxins! So clever! Use good undereye concealer

Let’s face it, undereye circles can age you! While you’ll eye cream can improve the appearance greatly, a good undereye concealer can work it’s magic by totally covering them! Firstly though you’ll want to prime your skin first. This will help fill in any lines and make the skin appear smoother (essential if you want to prevent makeup falling into the creases and exacerbating signs of eye ageing!) Use your ring finger and gently dab your primer over the wrinkles to the sides of your eyes and spread.

Now it’s time for your concealer. A good undereye concealer can give you complete coverage as well as make you look bright-eyed in seconds! Choose a shade lighter than your natural skin tone (as this will help brighten the area) but also opt for a “peachy” tone as this will counteract the blueish tinge of the shadows.

TryELES Dual Action Concealer my secret weapon for concealing my dark under eye circles and helping me look like I’ve had 8 hours of blissful slumber as opposed to only 5!  It’s formulated with a myriad of anti-ageing wonder ingredients including Hyaluronic acid, Caffeine, Vitamins C & E, Collagen and more! And it actually helps to gradually improve skin’s texture while concealing those obvious under eye dark circles. Its moisturising formula provides continuous hydration as well as a natural longwearing finish meaning it lasts for hours without seeping into fine lines and wrinkles! It’s seriously good stuff. Simply apply with a small concealer brush and then finish with a powder to set the concealer so it doesn’t crease.

For the most brightening effect, apply your concealer in a “V” or upside-down triangle shape beneath your eye. Swipe it directly under the eye, but bring it down to a point on your cheek beside your nostril and fill in the entire area.

ELES Dual Action Concealer

Use a little eye shadow to create the illusion of bigger eyes

To make our eyes look bigger, gently sweep a vanilla coloured shadow on your eyelids from your eyelashes to the crease. Use a medium tone shade in the crease – and slightly above the crease if you have hooded eyes. It can make your eyes pop without you looking OTT. Then use a touch of the vanilla-coloured eyeshadow just beneath the arch of your eyebrow to lift the eye, as well as at the inner corner of the eye.

Wear mascara but choose it wisely

Mascara is one of the most important products for adding definition and volume to the eyes, but there are a few points you need to know when it comes to selecting the right mascara for your ageing eyes.

Check out the ingredients in the mascara you are using. You might well have fallen for the marketing hype – longer, fuller lashes in seconds, but if your mascara contains preservatives, they can irritate your eyes which in turn will make you rub them more, this results in unwanted lash loss and let’s face it you want to cling onto those lashes of yours.

Be wary of using waterproof mascara daily. Waterproof mascara does indeed cause less smudging and smearing however the formulation can be harsher on your eye lashes, causing them to dry out as well as be tougher to remove (cue rubbing!) Where possible use water-soluble long wear mascaras but when you need to go waterproof (essential for beach and pool breaks) just be sure to check out the ingredients and remove with a good eye makeup remover.

Opt for smudge proof, lash-defining mascara. Sadly one of the symptoms of ageing eyes can be skin sagging this is when wearing mascara can be tricky as more often than not the mascara will smudge all around the eyes! By choosing a long-wear lash-defining mascara like ELES Lash Fortifying Mascara you’ll reduce any mascara fall out and every lash will be evenly coated and separated for that perfect natural look. What’s more the mascara is formulated with hydrolyzed keratin, panthenol, hyaluronic acid and vitamin e to strengthen, condition and protect lashes.

Mascara expires. When it does, throw it out and buy another, even if you think you’ve got a few more weeks or months in it! Every time you use your mascara you are pumping air into the wand, this creates bacteria. The average life of a mascara once used for the first time is 3 months. An expired mascara can (and will!) spark lash loss and lets face it you don’t need to be losing any more lashes!

ELES - Lash Fortify Waterproof Mascara - Black

Don’t use an eye lash curler to curl your lashes, try this instead…

You’ve been told to curl your lashes with an eyelash curler to create more volume and lift for your lashes, but this isn’t a good option as we get older. This is because as we age our lashes do too. It’s inevitable they will get weaker and thinner. Using an eyelash curler can create more damage than good and the curler can cause lashes to break. Instead a popular way to curl your lashes is by using a metal teaspoon. Press the spoon, concave side in, against your eyelid above your lashes. Now use your fingertip to press your eyelashes against the convex curve of the bottom of the spoon. Hold your lashes in place for 10 to 15 seconds and repeat in the corners. Or you can even use something as simple as your finger to curl your lashes! Simply close your eye and use your fingertip to gently push your upper eyelashes up against the top of your eyelid. Hold the eyelashes up for 30 seconds and then release them.

Use a white eye pencil or waterline liner to brighten eyes

After applying your eyeshadow and mascara, next line the inner rim of your lower lash line or waterline as it’s otherwise known with a white pencil or a nude waterline liner! (We recommend ELES’s Waterline liner). By doing so it’ll immediately open up your eyes as well as make the whites of your eyes look whiter (synonymous with younger looking eyes!)

ELES Waterliner

Don’t Rub Your Eyes! For itchy or irritated eyes try this instead

Rubbing your eyes can cause wrinkles and dark circles. If you have itchy or irritated eyes, use a cold compress or eye drops to relieve the symptom. Applying slices of cucumbers is also a great idea! The cooling effect of the cucumber will relax the skin and alleviate any irritation or swelling around the eyes!

Reduce Sun Exposure

We all know excessive exposure to the sun is the no.1 reason for skin ageing. But too much time soaking up those harmful rays can also result in premature wrinkles and age spots around the delicate eye area too. Make sure you’re always wearing sunglasses when outdoors to protect your peepers but also wear a hat and apply sunscreen too! You protect the rest of your skin, so don’t forgo the eye zone!

Lay off the salt!

Believe it or not, too much salt in your diet can affect your eyes and make them look older. Unfortunately, the delicate skin around your eyes is at higher risk of getting puffy the more salt you consume. Extra sodium unfortunately makes your body retain water. This excess water causes puffiness. Aghhh. So, try to ditch (ok maybe just cut down!) on those favourite foods (and drinks) of yours that are heavy on the salt.

Stay Hydrated

When your body is dehydrated, your skin cells start to lose their plumpness. The skin around your eyes is already thinner than other parts of the body, so any reduction in plumpness in this area is visible relatively quickly. As a result, dehydration can cause your eye area to appear darker, discoloured, sunken, or hollow so you will look older than your years! By drinking plenty of water (aim for 8 glasses a day) you will help keep your skin hydrated and smooth, which can help reduce the appearance of those unwanted obvious wrinkles, fine lines and dark circles!. Remember water hydrates and plumps skin cells to make your skin look brighter, vibrant, and more youthful. It’s amazing stuff!

Don’t go to sleep with your eye makeup on

I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of skipping our evening cleansing routine once in a while because the idea of peeling ourselves off our bed just doesn’t feel like an option, but did you know just how bad this can be for your eyes? Not removing your makeup at night hinders the skin renewal process that takes place while you sleep. The days makeup and grime can clog the pores and trap dirt which can be damaging to your skin but you’re your delicate eye area. Mascaras make your lashes stiff; it’s part of its job. But leaving it on while you sleep will cause the stiffness to turn into dryness that can trigger lashes to break and soon result to lash fallouts! So instead opt for a good, gentle, easy-to-use eye makeup remover. We love Phytomer’s Doux Contour Eye and Lip Waterproof Makeup Remover as it simply melts away makeup and grime with minimum effort! Combining the effectiveness of an oil (a trio of oils in fact) and the gentleness of a lotion, this ultra-hydrating makeup remover, eradicates even the most stubborn eye makeup both gently and fast!
